Chapter 35
The History of the Flight of Death
Eve was just getting into her pyjamas when she felt a shiver as someone was walking over her grave. She wasn't very surprised considering Harry's tense looks throughout the day and Cat shooting Harry worried looks. Eve had known from the right off that Harry's Death senses had acted up again.
'Harry, what's happened?' Eve asked.
'How did you know I was there?' asked Harry grumpily.
'Harry you are the only person I know whose sudden presence feels like a Dementor,' Eve replied.
Harry had an affronted look at that and was about to open his mouth to say something in reply. Unfortunately or fortunately depending who was speaking Cat got there first with a smug snicker. Just as it always was for the two raven haired demigods.
'She's got you there,' Cat agreed grinning.
'You could look a little more serious considering there's an eleven year old's soul on the line,' Harry said darkly.
Cat just grinned sticking her tongue out at her sombre friend eyes twinkling in the way they always did when she was up to no good which was always. Eve had often wondered if Cat's father was Hermes with the way she carried on. It wouldn't surprise Eve but whenever anyone mentioned her unknown godly father Cat got angry which was understandable considering the circumstances.
Eve had often felt it sad that the god who was believed to be the most evil by gods and demigods alike was actually the best father. It just went to show you. Eve often considered her friend who Eve felt was mildly bipolar the way he bounced from terrifying cheerful to as cheery as a graveyard.
Eve felt that Harry was always stuck between life and death. It was true Harry was a living human (almost) boy. However, he was the son of the Lord of the Underworld. Part of both worlds. Belonging to neither.
'Fancy her?' grinned Cat bringing Eve out of her pensive thoughts.
Harry grimaced, 'she's obsessive.'
'I'm sure once she gets to realise that your more than just the Boy Who Lived she'll become less obsessed,' Eve said defending her friends' younger sister.
'Here's to hoping,' Harry said darkly. 'If I have to put up with that every time I visit Fred and George I'll play Quidditch!'
This caused the two girls to laugh and Harry to scowl at them. Eve quickly stopped when what Harry had said sunk in. Eve had of course been told about the Horcruxes when Harry had found out about them when he was nine and then when Dobby had revealed that a Horcrux was possessing someone at Hogwarts.
'Ginny's possessed?' demanded Eve.
'Yes,' Harry said grimly.
'Then what are we doing here?' demanded Eve.
'That's what I've been saying the whole time,' Harry retorted.
'Can you get us both there?' asked Cat.
'Yes, but I'd prefer to go on Morty,' Harry said, 'Shadow Travelling costs energy. Energy I need if I can't subdue the Horcrux.'
'What's the plan?' asked Eve.
'Morty will Shadow Travel us in,' Harry said. 'Then you cloak us in Silencing and Notice Me Not charms just in case we can't remove the Horcrux quietly. All we need is a bunch of British wizards to get involved. I don't think I can keep our secret and fight the Horcrux at the same time!'
'Charlie wouldn't do anything,' Cat said.
'No I don't think that the twins will either,' Harry said, 'and if Charlie and Bill have picked up anything abroad they won't either. You two will probably be okay but I'm Dark remember!'
'Harry's right,' Eve said, 'we need to keep our identities a secret.'
'Thank you, Eve,' Harry said. 'Cat whilst Eve's doing that knock Ginny out. Hopefully that will subdue the Horcrux too. I'll remove the Horcrux as soon as the wards are up. After it is done reverse the spells and we're out of there.'
'Harry, do you think Mrs Weasley's clock will show anything?' asked Eve.
Harry frowned, 'she won't be in any danger,' Harry said, 'it's too early for the Horcrux to be able absorb her life force and we're not going to harm her. If everything goes to plan all the clock will say is bed or home.'
The two demigod girls nodded looking grim but in their battle ready positions. The two of them took out their swords. Harry didn't tell them not to even though he knew that they couldn't attack the Horcrux without killing Ginny unless they found the actual Horcrux. Luckily Stygian Iron and Olympian Bronze as the weapons of the gods was one of the few substances that would readily destroy a Horcrux.
'Be careful with the swords,' Harry ordered. 'Remember no matter what Ginny says or does she's possessed. We do not want to kill her trying to destroy the Horcrux. Not that it will do any good. If Ginny dies before the Horcrux completes ritual the Horcrux will just return to it's original container.'
Harry reversed the spell on Morty so that a full sized hell hound was now in Eve's hotel room. Then he cloaked them in darkness because they didn't want to reveal themselves before Ginny was unconscious and the room cloaked in spells of a daughter of Hecate. Harry prayed to Ares and Hades that everything went well.
'Morty take us to Ginny Weasley's room,' Harry ordered.
X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X
Although no one could see three demigods and a hell hound had just appeared in a small room facing the field in a Devonshire magical farm cottage. Ginny wasn't there at the moment but then the door opened and the small red haired girl came in wearing pyjamas and a dressing gown with her hair wrapped up in a towel. Just had a bath then Harry realised.
Harry felt the magic occur as Eve began to spell the room all but invisible to outsiders and a spell whizz past his head with a flash of read as Ginny collapsed onto the floor. Harry strained his ears hoping against hope that nobody but them had heard what the thump but there was no sounds of running footsteps from downstairs. All Harry could hear was the sound of a few drunken laughs from the adults who had not been sent to bed as the children had.
'It's done,' Eve said.
Harry nodded hoping that this was enough to keep any Dark Magic wards at bay but considering they hadn't picked up a Horcrux entering the homestead then it was doubtful. True Harry's magic was Darker and more powerful than any human born wizard's magic could hope to be. Still it wasn't war time so magical people were likely to have got lazy about wards over the years.
Harry closed his eyes calling his magic and deathly powers to him as he had done so many times. Harry had never done this before. Sure Harry knew the principle of removing a soul which should have gone on but having never done it he was nervous.
'εγώ Harry James Potter, γιος εκ άδης ο (1),' Harry began to chant.
'Uh oh,' Eve said.
'HARRY!' cried Cat.
Harry cracked his eyes open and widened when he saw bright, furious red eyes glowing ominously that he remembered all too well from last year glaring at him. The level of hated and pure evil being directed at the three demigods from a pale, eleven year old's face seemed wrong to him somehow. No eleven year old anywhere should wear an expression like that ever, or have aura as Black as the one that was being radiated outwards almost too big for the tiny room drowning out the weak pale aura underneath.
'Harry Potter,' a cold chilling voice spoke out of Ginny Weasley's mouth.
'Voldemort,' Harry said.
Harry spoke without flinching unlike most witches and wizards. Harry knew his fearlessness would annoy Voldemort more than anything. Voldemort's mortal enemy using his chosen title without the fear it was designed with.
'What are you doing in little Ginny Weasley's room?'
Ginny's mouth twisted into an obscene smirk that he remembered all too well from last year's battle. Harry knew the plan had flown out of the window as soon as the Horcrux had awoken. Both Eve and Cat had their weapons out but seemed unclear as to what to do with them as they couldn't take on Voldemort without attacking Ginny and with their training that would mean the end of Ginny.
'Find the Horcrux,' Harry shot an order at them.
Harry hoped that Eve would be able to sense the Black Arts on them even if she couldn't sense the complete un-naturalness of what the so called Lord had done to himself. It was no wonder he was insane if he had split his soul as much as he had although those who wished for immortality at the price of their soul couldn't have their full mental capacities in the first place. Harry wondered whether making the Horcrux had driven Voldemort mad or if he was insane in the first place which had driven him to the making of the Horcrux. Harry doubted he or anyone except Voldemort would ever know the answer to that particular line of thought.
Voldemort smirked wordlessly and wandlessly slammed both demigod girls into the wall using Ginny Weasley's magic and his own intense powers of concentration which must have been honed through all these years stuck in an inanimate object. Harry knew that the Ministry wouldn't be able to detect wandless magic in a home full of magic especially as it was a simple light spell used violently. Voldemort probably had used a light spell for that exact reason and coming from a family like the Weasleys his host's magic was unlikely to be anything but Light.
Harry didn't give his two friends a second glance knowing they were okay as their auras hadn't flickered in the slightest. They were just unconscious. Harry could only hope that apart from that they were completely unhurt otherwise he would have to do some quick thinking to explain to Madam Pomfrey and Professor McGonagall what had happened which would probably land them all in detention for messing around with magic they hadn't been taught yet if Harry didn't use his Death Aura to get them out of detention.
Voldemort obviously was either not powerful enough yet to kill. Or he was concerned about gaining notice to early in the game. Or he wanted something from Harry. Harry hoped it was the first but suspected it was the second.
'Ah commanding your loyal followers to do your work for you,' smirked Voldemort.
Voldemort had seemingly forgotten that Harry had the most difficult job of all. He had to defend and fight Voldemort without harming the girl he was possessing and call the soul of the psychopathic wizard to him. He had given the other two the backup plan of destroying the Horcrux with their wands.
'We're so very alike. Both of us half-bloods raised by Muggles,' Voldemort revealed.
Harry's eyes widened. That had been the last thing he had been expecting. Voldemort was a half-blood? Harry knew that Voldemort had no problem recruiting half-bloods or with half-bloods but with his obsession with blood purity everyone had assumed he was a pure-blood.
'You're a half blood?' Harry asked. 'All the preaching and you're a half-blood? Did your minions know? Of course they didn't what Pure-Blood would bow down to lowly half-blood?'
Voldemort didn't answer. Not that Harry was expecting him to. The only thing that happened was Ginny Weasley's normally chocolate brown eyes seemed to go a darker red. Voldemort held a look that reminded him of the furies when they were getting excited about the fresh souls that they could torture.
'Both Dark wizards possessing powers that our lesser could never even begin to imagine never mind control,' continued Voldemort. 'I've heard you lament on Britain's poor opinion on the Dark Arts. We could be great! Together we could rule the world in our own image!'
'We are nothing alike!' Harry retorted angrily. 'I would never join one such as you,' sneered Harry feeling the Dark wizard's soul pulse with a sickening energy corrupted and swollen by ill-gotten power. 'I am not a megalomaniac! You are what gives a bad name to Dark wizards and witches everywhere! It is people like you that feed Light and Neutral wizards fear of what the Dark Arts can do if used wrong! If people like you have never existed we wouldn't be oppressed by them!'
'I was just like you at your age,' Voldemort said apparently in a reminiscent mood. 'I had already started gathering followers around me wishing for power but I had the drive to do so much more than you pathetically naïve fool could ever begin to imagine!'
'And that is where you and I are very different,' Harry said coldly in response to the idea that his friends were his followers. 'I don't have followers,' Harry sneered at the red eyed maniac. I have friends. Friends who I will die for and friends who will die for me. When you fell which one of your followers searched you out? Cared for you? Came for you?
You think being alone and feared makes you strong!? It doesn't it makes you weak because it means that you are alone and friendless. No matter how strong you are there will come a day when you will need an ally!
'There is a reason none of your supposedly loyal Death Eaters followed you. Why only the most insane even admitted they had followed you. You were but a means to an end. They wanted the oppression on their magic to end but they weren't going to stick their necks out for a mad man who had lost all his power! You will see before the end you will be betrayed again and again!'
'And here I thought you were a worthy ally,' sneered Voldemort. 'All you are is a naïve child with no knowledge of true power and no ambition to obtain it. And yet you plan to take my followers from me. They wouldn't date leave me!'
Harry rolled his eyes. Of course that was what he thought Harry was saying when he said that his followers would desert him. Harry had no plans to help out the blood purists who would kill people like his mother and Hermione as soon as look at them or the bullies like Draco and his cronies or those who wished to destroy the Light just as they had been destroyed. There had to be a balance between all three disciplines! Of course, Harry would accept anyone who like Professor Snape hadn't realised at the time what they were getting into. Not until it was too late!
If you knew what I have done to assure my absolute power you would never defy me like this! You would be a miserable wreck who would beg me to kill you before the end as you will!' hissed Voldemort.
'I know power that you should tremble at,' Harry retorted angrily.
Harry felt his own aura flare around him. It was like an earthquake where two opposing plates collided except instead of two different plates it was two auras of Dark magic. One of pure dark magic as it should be and the other of corrupted power that should never be obtained.
Again that chilling high laugh rang out of small feminine lips. It was clear from the way he was acting that this Horcrux was incredibly young. Probably one of the first to be made. Never mind the soul fraction was a lot larger than Harry's which had been the last Horcrux to be made, accidentally.
'I am Lord Voldemort you are nothing but a boy,' Voldemort said.
'And you?' asked Harry. 'You can't be much older than I!' Harry shot back.
Voldemort smirked, 'you are quite right. You see that is what I have that you will never have. I was able to command the kind of power at sixteen that few will ever be able to do so and the few who can would never dare what I dared when I was not yet a man for my quest in power. You'd never have that nerve or that ambition!'
'You think that murder and cheating death makes you powerful?' demanded Harry with a sneer. 'You're wrong! And the one you have always feared will catch up with you and destroy you!'
'Ha! Dumbledore!?' Voldemort spat out that name. 'He's been driven out of the school by my very memory!'
'Actually he was driven out due to his own manipulative nature putting us all in danger,' Harry retorted icily.
Harry was quite glad of their victory over Dumbledore and did not want their victory to be tarnished by the idea that it was Voldemort who had driven out Voldemort thank you very much. Voldemort may have been the catalyst but it was Snape, Amelia Bones, the American government and most importantly Linda Button and Ivan Summers. Never mind Harry hadn't even been talking about Dumbledore in the first place!
'Be that as it may that light hearted fool would never have the guts to kill me. He's too noble for such a thing,' Voldemort sneered.
'Of course, he's not,' snapped Harry. 'He just likes to pretend he is so the masses will worship him but that ship has long sailed.'
'It has hasn't it,' Voldemort seemed very cheery at this.
'I should thank you for being the catalyst that got rid of Dumbledore,' Harry said. 'But you know I wasn't actually talking about Dumbledore when I said the one you have always feared Flight of Death!'
'So you know what my name is?' Voldemort raised an eyebrow.
'I've got friends who are fluent in French,' Harry replied, 'I have to say as nicknames go it isn't very original. I always thought it was to hide your true identity and presumed that one of the many pure-bloods who went missing was responsible. But I realised tonight I was wrong. You're a half-blood. I take it the name was to hide your so called shameful birth!' Harry sneered.
'You are quite right,' Voldemort sneered. 'I was born Tom Marvolo Riddle such a shamefully common name in honour of my Muggle,' Voldemort sneered, 'father. My father who abandoned my pregnant mother soon as she realised she was a witch!'
Harry couldn't help but compare Tom Marvolo Riddle to Luke Castellan. Both of them half-bloods of a different kind. Both of them willing to burn their world down due to a feeling of abandonment from their fathers.
Not that it gave them an excuse there were plenty of others like Cat who were exactly the same but did you see Cat taking on the mantle of the Dark Lady or running off to join Kronos. No you did not. Yeas maybe bad things happened to you, you were hurt but it didn't give you an excuse to become psychotic killers.
'So this is what this whole war is about!?' demanded Harry. 'Your daddy issues!'
'You dare!' Voldemort's voice had gotten if possible colder.
'I dare!'
'You are not the only one with daddy issues!' Harry said. 'Look at Cat. Doesn't even know who her father is. Mother a psychopath. Most of the Wizarding World expecting her to be exactly the same. Judging her before even knowing her! Yet she is the most Gryffindor person I have ever known; brave, selfish and willing to do what's right! You are just a sad lonely child. If harming others is the only thing that makes you feel better about what you are then all I feel is sad!'
Voldemort made such a sound of rage that if the room had not been sound proofed would have had the whole house running which wouldn't have helped Harry at all. In his anger Voldemort seemingly forgotten that wand use would bring the family running and if not the Ministry depending on how strong the wards around the Burrow were and if the wand considered Harry, Eve, Cat and Voldemort as adults. Because the first thing that Harry saw was a wand being pulled out on him.
'Crucio!'
Harry Shadow Travelled out of the way as it was the quickest way to avoid the spell used in such a horrific way that came his way. Voldemort turned around frowning at him obviously trying to understand what the twelve year had done. What power did the Boy Who Lived Have that he knew not?
'You were wrong when you said I was a half-blood,' Harry said quietly. 'When I said the one you have always feared I was speaking about my father, Hades!'
Voldemort's eyes widened fear and denial warring within themselves in those blood red eyes clearly Voldemort did not want to entertain the idea that he was fighting with the son of Death. Unfortunately he was. Using Voldemort's distraction against him Harry began incanting quickly before the dark magic use brought unwelcome visitors.
'εγώ Harry James Potter, γιος εκ άδης ο, διό, διά άρθρο δυνάμεως τής ειδωλόθυτος εγώ έγνωκα από M γονεύς ο. εγώ διαστέλλομαι ήδε δαιμόνιον τό αναγκάζω έστε εγκαταλείπω αύτη κόρη εκ Ekáti. Έρχομαι έστε εγώ (2).'
Harry could feel his powers meeting the resistance of Voldemort's. There magic clashed violently for what felt like hours but was probably not even minutes. Then there was the sound of a huge explosion that rocked the little room as Harry pulled up walls of black granite around himself, Eve and Cat followed by hurried footsteps on the stairs.
Someone had noticed the battle.
