April 16th, 2004

I finished the last suture on Mrs. Albertson's uterus and sat down my tools on the tray.

"Dr. Abbot close for me." I instructed my resident and stepped away from the table. I shed my surgical gown, mask, and gloves in the medical waste bin before leaving the OR. Derek was waiting for me in the scrub room. I smiled and leaded in to kiss him gently on the lips. He smiled as we pulled away.

"How was the c-section?" Derek asked.

"Everything went really well." I told him. Derek smiled.

"I see you're feeling better today." Derek remarked and kissed me again. I smiled and nodded.

"I feel great for the first time in a while. I think the morning sickness is gone and I have some energy again." I told him. Derek grinned.

"I am so glad. I was so worried about you. Listen, Mark and Amelia want to have everyone over for dinner tonight. Do you feel up to it?" Derek asked and leaned against the sinks. I shrugged.

"I do right now, but it depends on how I feel tonight Derek." I reminded him. Derek nodded, like he understood.

"Well just let me know. Mark and Amelia will understand." Derek reminded me. I nodded and kissed him on the cheek.

"I'll see you later, I've got to go check on a patient." I told him and slipped around him and out the door. I honestly wasn't sure why I felt so good today but I was not going to complain at all. I was overjoyed to be feeling as good as I did. It was the best, I also knew not to overdo it today or I would seriously regret it tomorrow. Still it was hard not to let feeling like superwoman get to me. I was on a roll with surgeries today, I had been flawless so far. I ran into Callie on the way to check on one of my post c-section patients who had some complications during the operation yesterday. Callie smiled when she saw me and we stopped to talk for a few minutes.

"How's the IVF going?" I asked. Callie sighed and leaned against the nurse's station.

"It's going. I constantly feel exhausted though, and overly emotional." Callie complained. I smiled and shook my head.

"Oh Cal, just wait until you get pregnant. It's twice as bad. When do you go for the egg fertilization?" I asked.

"Next week. I have plenty of eggs, the main thing is just pairing it with the sperm, so I didn't have to do that many rounds of hormones." Callie told me. I smiled.

"That's exciting. What donor did you pick?" I asked.

"Some med student from Boston." Callie shrugged. I nodded.

"That sounds like a pretty good match. I really hope it takes for you." I told her honestly. Callie smiled and gave me a hug.

"I'm really glad that you're feeling better. It's nice to see you smile and let the pregnancy glow take over you." Callie told me. I smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, it feels pretty great too. I hope that it sticks around for more than just today." I told her. Callie nodded.

"I'm praying for you." She told me honestly. I smiled.

"Thanks Cal. I've got to go check on a patient, I'll see you at the practice later I'm sure." I replied and walked away. Callie waved bye as I walked away and then she turned to head in the direction she had been going originally. When I met my patient she was holding her new baby and just grinning down at her bundle of joy. I couldn't help but smile at the sight. "Hello Mrs. Kalvin. How are you feeling today?" I asked and glanced over her vitals.

"A little sore, but fantastic otherwise." She told me. I smiled and came over to her bed.

"That's awesome. I just need to check your incision and then I'll leave you to be with miss perfect." I promised. She smiled and handed me her baby to place in the nearby bassinet. I checked her incision thoroughly before handing her the baby back. "Everything looks awesome. I'll be back tomorrow to check on you again and then maybe you can go home the day after tomorrow." I told her. She smiled and nodded.

"Thank you Dr. Montgomery-Shepherd." She thanked me beaming. I smiled and slipped out of her room. I headed back down the halls to my office in the hospital. I poked my head in to hang my lab coat on its hook by the door and grab my purse from the bottom drawer in my desk. Then I headed out to catch a taxi back to the practice. I had some paperwork to finish back at the practice and then I could head home and enjoy a nice cup of tea while I took a long bubble bath. It sounded like an amazing idea to me. When I got to the practice the work day was winding down and very little patients were left in the practice. I walked by Callie's office and stopped in front of her door because I heard crying. I knocked on her door and the crying stopped.

"Callie?" I asked. The door swung open to reveal a disheveled Callie.

"Hi Addie." She hiccupped and wiped her eyes. I followed her into her office and shut the door.

"Callie what's wrong? You were so happy like an hour ago." I asked. Callie shrugged and wiped her eyes.

"I don't know, I think it's all these damn hormones." She cried. I smiled and pulled her into hug.

"Oh Cal. Did anything in particular trigger the crying?" I asked.

"I just saw a baby, and next thing I knew I was a crying mess. I had to hide in my office." She confessed. I laughed and rolled my eyes.

"Callie you have it bad." I laughed. Callie glared at me and stuck her tongue out at me.
