Chapter 37
Bella
I gave Edward a glass of water as I sat down across from him in the living room. He calmed down a while ago and his expression was unreadable. I have mixed emotions now so I don't know how the hell this is going to go down.
"Edward?" I said tenatively.
"I'm so sorry," he said. "I shouldn't have come so late."
"You have nothing to be sorry for," I told him.
"No I do. I ignored you today when you needed me the most. Work was busy but also I needed some time to deal with what happened as well today ," Edward said sadly.
I didn't say anything for a while. I took it all in slowly as I continue to look at him. He was wearing jeans and a light grey shirt with his black sneakers. His hair, beautiful but messy as always. I can see he's stressed but over what I wasn't too sure.
"Is it true? I'm being accused of something I didn't do?"
"But did you do it? You know that this is a serious accusation we're dealing with," I told him. "Not only that, but this will change the entire investigation."
"Bella, I only knew Kate that died but I didn't kill her," Edward said.
As much as I want to sigh a huge relief, I can't. Not while this is going on and I don't want to give Edward the wrong idea right now. That would only make matters worse.
"And for the others, I didn't do anything to them. Honest. I could never," he said. "I may be messed up in my head but killing someone is inhumane. There's no way I could do anything like that."
"Makes sense I suppose," I mumbled. "What I don't understand is why come here almost late at night to tell me this?"
Edward turned to face me on the couch. He took my hand and held it.
"I never felt this before," he said.
"What?"
"Scared and that fear of something that I didn't do," Edward said.
"What James said..."
Edward laughed darkly at James' name. I stared at him with no expression. His reaction didn't surprise me one bit. I know James is a bastard so I can't be shocked at that for sure.
"'What James said'," he said in a mocking tone. "That bastard would always find some excuse to get me fucked over."
"I-I'm sorry I don't understand," I said.
This was getting very nerve wracking. I sipped on my water as I continued to stare at Edward's movements. He was pacing up and down, holding the bridge of his nose in frurstartion.
"Bella, it's not your fault. Ever since I was starting up the company; James has always had it out for me to destroy me. Despite working together, I knew James could be up to his no good sneaking ways. I mean he tried to worm his way to you," he said.
"But he didn't..."
"Oh Bella don't. Don't even defend him not after what he's done," Edward said, sending me a glare.
"I'm not," I said, standing up from my spot. "Edward if what he's saying is true..."
"You believe him?" he asked increduously.
"All I'm saying is that if what he is saying is in fact true; then Edward, there's going to be a serious problem," I replied.
He ran his hand through his hair and turned towards me. There was this look in his eyes that I couldn't make out.
In that moment, I was afraid. Afraid of what he can do and who knows what he's capable of. I know he wouldn't do anything to hurt me.
Would he?
"Bella I love you," he said.
Wait..what?
"I feel drawn to you and I know deep down you feel the same with me. I also know that you know I didn't kill those people. I could never do such a thing. I'm just trying to get past what I went through years ago and Bella, you complete me," he said.
I didn't know what to say.
What can I say?
Edward started to come closer towards me. As much as I wanted to step away from him I couldn't. He cupped my face lightly as I stood there staring into his eyes. In a split second, his lips met mine. I stood there for a second before returning the kiss.
I could feel myself moving as we continued to kiss. I landed on the couch and he was still kissing me. It start to escalate when I rubbed his chest as he took off my sweater. When he tried to unbutton my shirt, I had to stop.
"Edward wait," I said in between kisses. "Maybe we shouldn't..."
I heard him stop. I looked up at him and he froze at the sight of me.
"My god, Bella I'm sorry," he said.
"No don't apologize," I told him. "We both were in this."
"But..."
"Nothing. You're stressed and you need to go home and get some sleep," I said.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure. Edward you need to rest and think clearly as to what's the come in the following days. I don't want to hear you do anything you're going to regret," I said.
"You're right," he said, getting up from his spot.
I escorted him to my door as he was putting his jacket on. I looked over at the time and saw that it was getting near one in the morning.
"Edward," I called out as he walked through the doorway.
"Yes?"
"I hope what you're saying it's true. I don't doubt you but if I find out otherwise, I might not trust you anymore," I said.
"And I'd be willing to deal with it," Edward said.
Before he left, he stepped forward and placed a kiss on my forehead. I looked up a second later and he was gone. I closed the door and locked it for the night.
After hearing all of it, I wasn't sure what to think anymore.
-LINE BREAK-
"Bella?"
I looked over at Alice in a tired expression as she gave me coffee the next day. I don't remember how I went to bed or even managed to get some sleep but I feel so mentally and emotionally exhausted. I checked the time on my phone which was only 8:30am. I've been up for only a while but I was so desperate to go back to sleep.
"Oh Alice..."
"What happened last night? I don't think I've ever dealt with what I have to deal with before," I said.
"And what's that?" she asked.
I want to tell her so bad. His revelation. The feelings he has for me. Am I really scared of him to take it further? But if I do give in to those feelings, will that cloud my judgement when working if he is a suspect.
I do believe him but I wasn't sure how much I do believe him.
"Everything," I replied sadly.
"Oh Bella," Alice said, hugging me tight. "Everything's going to work out."
"And how would you know?" I asked.
"Never doubt me," she replied simply.
I should've known that answer. Especially when it came to Alice and her knowing of how things work out.
We pulled away as I finished up my coffee. I didn't bother finishing my coffee as I got ready for the day. Something inside my mind clicked while I was getting ready. I was already in a tough spot between Edward and the case.
I really do believe Edward.
I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Seth to let Marcus know I would take a personal day. I rarely do unless it's necessary and today was one of those days. I slipped my phone in my jeans pocket and grabbed my bag before leaving the apartment.
I didn't bother texting Jake since the whole thing went down at work yesterday. I couldn't face him knowing what happened and whether or not he meant what he said.
I just needed to clear my head.
I needed to go see someone today and it wasn't Edward.
A/n Another long delay I know but it wasn't too long at least.
So we hear Edward's side of the story. Do you still think Edward did it or have some sort of connection? Do you think James is the culprit or is it someone you least suspect?
