Hermione Cullen Goes to Hogwarts Chapter 34
"That was harder then I thought it would be," Ron grumbled as they walked the path back up towards the castle.
"We shouldn't have had to endure that!" Hermione exclaimed as she stomped up the path.
"Did you not want to go see Hagrid?" Harry asked, slightly confused. She had been the one who had come up with the idea to go and visit the giant.
"Well, look what we have here?" a menacing voice said, stopping Hermione from responding. "Why are you leaving? The show will be starting soon." Malfoy smirked as he came further down the path, followed closly by Crabb and Goyle.
"Let us by Malfoy," Hermione insisted through gritted teeth.
"Oh come on, Cullen. You know you want to watch justice finally come to pass. You are always about wrong being stopped and good prevailing," Malfoy retored, his arms over crossed over his chest.
"Nothing good is coming from Buckbeak being excacuted," Hermione spit out.
"I would move out of the way and let us by before she does something you don't like," Harry warned, watching as her hair started sparking.
Draco smirked and stepped closer to the trio. "I don't know what you think that she is going to do. She has that brilliant trick of her hair going everywhere, but oh wait, her hair is always everywhere." He stated, causing Goyle and Crabb to snicker.
"I would listen to him, Malfoy," Ron warned, holding tight to his newly found rat, Scabbers.
"Shut up Weasley, no one asked you," the blonde wizard spat, looking down his nose as if he smelled something rotten. "I am surprised you can even keep up with this conversation, as small minded and thick as you are. You and the rest of your horrible family. The lot of you know nothing and can't afford anything-OW!"
Hermione pulled back her fist as if to punch Malfoy in the face again, but he moved out of the way, holding his hand over his bleeding nose.
"What the bloody hell was that for? You stupid cow!" he hollered, angrily.
"Because you are a horrible git, who deserves so much more then that! With your better then everyone else attitude and alway looking down you nose at people. You are no better then we are. You are no prince, you are not royalty of any sort. The Weasley's are better wizards then you are, you prat."
"Come on Crabb, Goyle. That excacution wasn't going to be much fun to watch anyway," Malfoy declared, glaring at Hermione. "At least we know that bird has seen it's last sunrise."
Hermione went to punch the blonde again, but he scurried away, his friends trailing after him.
"Merlin, that was bloody brilliant, Mione!" Ron exclaimed.
"How did that feel?" Harry asked, grinning.
"That felt amazing," Hermione laughed, shaking out the soreness in her hand from punching the git.
The trio laughed as they slowly made the way back up towards the castle, talking about how the blonde menace had run away very quickly.
"Ouch, Scabbers! He bit me!" Ron exclaimed as the ugly rat jumped out of his hands and made to run to the Forbidden Forest. "Scabbers! Scabbers! Come back!" He yelled as he ran after his pet.
"Ron! Ron slow down!" Harry yelled as they ran after him. The pair finally caught up with their friend at the top of a hill that led into the Forest.
"Did you catch him?" Harry asked, breathing heavily.
"Yes, but...look. A grim," the red head whispered, terrified.
Blocking their path, stood the blackest dog that Hermione had ever seen. It looked exactly like the Grim that Trelawny was always talking about in Divinations, according to the pictures that Ron and Harry had showed her. She had no clue why this dog was in their path or why he seemed to be growling at them.
"Scabbers no!" Ron screamed again as his beloved pet tried to squirm out of his grip, but he had a firm hold of the rat.
Suddenly the growling dog ran toward the three students, just as the rodent jumped out of its owners grip. The grim like creature turned to chase it, but Ron dove for his rat before it got too far.
"Leave my rat alone! Get off of me!" The red head screamed as the grim bite around his leg and pulled him through an opening of the Whomping Willow.
The pair chased after the grim and their best friend as the trees branches began to try and keep them from going through the hidden area.
"Oi, that hurts!" Harry exclaimed once they finally made it past the hateful branches.
Hermione nodded as she pulled out her wand and cast a quiet lumos as they made their way through the secret passage. They followed the path, quietly watching and listening for any clues as to how far the dog had taken Ron.
"Where are we?" Harry asked quietly as they made their way up a rickety staircase.
"I'm not sure," she replied as they enter a small room. They looked in all of the rooms before finding a staircase that went up to another floor.
They made their way up the stairs, wands at the ready. They could hear Ron whimpering in pain as they made their way through one of the doors.
"Ron are you okay?" Harry asked as they hurriedly knelt down to check on his dog bite.
"He'll be fine," a gruff voice said, startling the pair.
Standing beside the door was a tall, skinny man that looked as if he hadn't had a proper meal for many, many years. A bath wouldn't be a bad idea either. He had the blackest hair that Hermione had ever seen. And his eyes were a beautiful grey. She had seen many pictures of this man over the past few months and seeing him in person sent chills down her spin.
"Sirius Black," she whispered, as Harry stood quickly and pulled his wand on him.
"You were their friend! They made you my Godfather! How could you kill them! Go ahead, have you come back to finish what your master wanted to do? Go ahead! I'm ready. Or do you just let other people do the dirty work after you stab your friends in the back," Harry screamed at the man.
"Harry calm down, please," the black haired man begged sounded distraught as he held his hands up in a way to show he had no wand or weapon.
"You don't get to speak to him as if you know him!" Hermione screamed, pulling her own wand on the man. "You lost that privilage when you turned your back on him and his family."
A sound at the door turned their attention away from the escaped convict.
"Harry, Hermione, Ron what are you doing here?" Professor Lupin asked, surprised to see his three favorite students in the house that he had once used to turn into Mooney. He now used a more secure room at the Cullens house. He had placed wards on the house when he had first came back to Hogwarts, so he would know if any students tried to use the place for extracurricular activities.
"Professor look out," Hermione warned, as Sirius came out from behind the door.
"Sirius?" the stunned werewolf asked, holding his wand on his old friend.
"It's me, Moony. I promise everything you have heard isn't right. I had him change the secret keeper to Wormtail. People would know that I would be their keeper and I would put them in more danger. I would never do that to my brother. You know how much I loved him. How much I loved all of you," the dark haired man explaining quickly, angry tears running down his face as the words spilled out.
"Wormtail," Remus gasped, looking over at Ron, who was holding his rat for dear life.
"We can finally kill him and get revenage for his betrail Moony. For what he did to James and Lily. For Harry not being able to live a normal life with his Mum and Dad," Siruis begged his old friend. There was a silent conversation that went on between the two Marauders, something that they had down thousands of time while they were young men. Remus moved toward the Black heir and hugged him. He hugged his friend like he hadn't hugged another since way back when.
"I didn't think you would ever betray them. I've been so confused over the last thirteen years. I should have fought to get you a trail! I should have fought to get you out of the bloody hell hole," Remus cried.
"I'm here now, we are together once again. We can talk about his all again at another time. Now we need to avenge our brother and sister," he said, pointing the wand he had stolen at the red heads chest.
"What the bloody hell, I'm not this Wormtail! I'm Ron Weasley," the boy squeaked, causing his Defense teacher to laugh humorlessly, his wand pointing at him as well.
"Ronald, we aren't pointing our wands at you. We are pointing our wand at that good for nothing traitor rat you are holding onto."
"Scabbers? He's just an old rat that Percy gave me a few years ago. He's been with our family for almost twelve years. He hasn't hurt anyone. He has trouble walking because on his front paw he's missing,"
"He's missing a pinkie," Hermione whispered, slowly turning her wand on the rat as well. She had been listening to everything the wizards had been saying and things added up. She also remembered Alice saying that the story of Siruis Black just didn't add up. And you never bet against Alice.
"Bloody hell," Ron exclaimed, letting go of the rat that he had been holding onto. The rodent ran as fast as its little paws would let it go, trying to escape, only to be stopped by a spell that came quietly from Remus. In place of the rat, a short, overweight man appeared.
"Remus, Sirius, my old friends!" Pettigrew exclaimed.
"Shut up you little twit," Sirius said angrily, sending a silencing spell at him with his stolen wand. "You have no right to call us your friends after what you did to James and Lily. The only thing that will make up for that is for your to be dead. Are you ready Remus?"
The two Marauders raised their wand at the quivering man, looks of determination on their faces.
"Stop," Harry demanded, speaking for the first time through the whole thing. He looked over at the man he had admired for a year, knowing that he would never put him in harms way. If he thought that Sirius was telling the truth, then so did he. Even if Peter Pettigrew wasn't laying on the floor about to piss himself, he would believe the Professor.
"What Harry?" Remus asked, confused. If anyone should want his parents death avenged, it should be the boy.
"I said stop. Killing that rat would make you two no better then this worthless bastard," the Boy Who Lived spit, the anger rolling off of him in waves.
"What would you have us do with him, Harry? Surely you wouldn't want us to let him go about how he has all these years?" Sirius asked quietly, looking over at his godson, wondering what he was thinking.
"I think that we should take him up to the castle just like that and prove to everyone your innocence. That way he gets what he deserves after what he did to my family," Harry explained, glaring at the man on the floor.
He then looked over at the man who he had thought wanted to kill him. "And that way you can be cleared of all accounts. And be a free man."
Hermione smiled at her best friend, so proud of the man he was becoming. She wasn't sure if she would be able to turn over the man to the proper autorities if things were turned around. She wasn't sure if she would be able to stop herself from killing the rat with her own wand.
"That's an excellent idea, Harry," Remus agreed, smiling at the boy. He looked so much like his father, but had his mothers heart.
"He's turned into an excellent young man," Sirius smiled.
"This is all amazing and all, and I'm really happy that your godfather doesn't want to kill you, Mate. But my leg is hurting like hell and I'm not sure if I can walk," Ron complained from the corner he was proped up.
"How are we going to get both of them up to the castle?" Harry wondered.
Hermione had ropes coming out of her wand that were tying up the animagus. She turned and grinned up at the raven hair boy.
"Are you not a wizard? Am I not a witch? We can levitate them up to the castle. That way we have complete control of this prat and we can be careful with Ron as well. That way we won't cause more damage to his leg."
"Sorry about that, Mate," Sirius said, patting Ron's shoulder as Remus started to levitate the boy down the stairs towards the passage way that led to Hogwarts.
Ron shrugged, just happy to finally be headed towards the castle and the infirmary.
Sirius helped Hermione and Harry move Pettigrew through the tunnel. Harry keep glancing over at his Godfather, happy that he might actually get the chance to know him.
"Once the school year is over and I have time to look over what has been down to my vault at Gringotts, maybe we can talk about being a proper family," Sirius suggested to Harry as the walked through the opening of the path.
Harry felt tears coming to his eye, but quickly cleared his throat to try and make them go away. "I would like that."
