Chapter 38

Jason was in Jake's hanging out with Johnny and Ethan. They were his closest two friends at the moment because he still didn't have his memories back. They were drinking beer and shooting pool together. Sam had insisted that he go out and spend some time with someone other than her and the kids. They spent almost every waking moment together and she was starting to feel smothered.

"I'm empty, mates." Ethan held up his beer mug and stared at it.

Johnny picked his up and drained it. "Next round is on Jason Bourne over there tell him."

"Sam is ready to kill you for letting Jake watch those movies don't make it worse on yourself." Jason warned him.

"What she doesn't know won't hurt us. Just go get the beer." Ethan shooed him away.

Jason shook his head and walked up to the bar. On the way there he ran into Elizabeth. "Liz, hey, I didn't expect to run into you here."

"I got off work early and decided to come out for a change. Now I'm really glad that I did. It's really nice to see you." Elizabeth smiled brightly at him.

"It's good to see you too." He replied.

"What have you been up to?" She asked him.

"I have been up to a whole lot of nothing. Just getting to know my wife and kids again. I even had a few memories come back here and there. The rest Sam has kinda helped me piece together. We basically opened a PI file on me and we have sorta made a game out of investigating my past. Not a game, but it's just a way for me to learn things about myself." He signaled to Coleman to give him another pitcher of beer.

"Jason, I don't know if this has come up with you two yet or not, but you shouldn't be hard on Sam for the whole armed gunman thing or the whole watching Jake get kidnapped thing it wasn't her fault we drove her to it." She told him.

"Liz, what are you talking about? What do you mean she watched Jake get kidnapped? Why would she let that happen to our son?" He questioned. That didn't sound like the Sam he knew at all.

"I said too much it's really not a big deal. You shouldn't worry over it. You two worked through that a long time ago." She planted the seeds of doubt in his head.

He nodded his head and accepted the pitcher of beer from Coleman. "Yeah, I've gotta get back to Johnny and Ethan. They are supposed to be my bodyguards and I think I'm the one who keeps them out of trouble."

"Of course, I'll see you around." She smiled at him one more time.

"What did nurse floor whore want with you?" Johnny used Carly's nickname for Elizabeth.

"Who? Elizabeth? Do I want to know?" Jason arched his eyebrow.

"No, it's a Carly thing that's all you need to know." Ethan supplied for him.

"You're right that's all I need to hear to know that I don't want to know." Jason nodded his head in agreement.

The three men continued to drink and play pool. Jason's mind kept going back to what Elizabeth had said and finally he had to know more so he went over to her table and sat down.

"Liz, what you said about Sam and Jake what did you mean?" He asked.

"Jason, I don't know that it's my place to say it. You should ask Sam." She replied.

"I will ask her, but right now I'm asking you." He crossed his arms over his chest.

"Ok, the details don't matter right now. All you need to know is that you and Sam had broken up and on the night you went to get her back you caught her in bed with Patrick. There was a citywide blackout that night and I came to your apartment. One thing led to another and we slept together that's how we got Jake. There was some stuff that went down and we decided it was better off if Sam didn't know you were the father and if you let my husband at the time think he was his father. You were gonna tell Sam, but you had just found out that she couldn't have children, so you decided against it. Long story short she ended up hiring people to scare me away from your lifestyle and she watched Jake get kidnapped." Elizabeth tried to paint herself in the best light.

"That doesn't sound like the Sam I know. And what do you mean that we made Jake? Sam is his mother." He was confused and he refused to believe that Sam had done what he'd just heard.

"The Sam you know has her wild side under control. It's really not her fault. She was in foster care for like two years and she has criminal tendencies because of that. Like I said ask Sam if you want to know. I've already said more than I should. I will add this we were in love and she did whatever she could to come between us." She told him.

"I plan on doing that right now." Jason threw his leather jacket on and left.

"Of course he would put it up where I can't reach it." Sam grumbled as she drug her kitchen chair over to the fridge. Jason had put the ice cream up high where she couldn't get to it easily in hopes that she would get frustrated and give up on getting her craving food of choice. It would have been ideal if Jake had been up. That boy was a little monkey.

Her ears perked up when she heard the door open. "Jason? Is that you? If it is you're getting my ice cream down since you're the one who put it all the way up here."

Jason walked into the kitchen and got her ice cream down for her wordlessly. "Here,"

"Jase, what's wrong? You seem like you're upset about something." She searched his face for any hint as to what was wrong with him.

"Is Jake mine and Elizabeth's son?" He questioned her.

The question hit her like a knife in the heart. She'd hoped that his memories would come back and she wouldn't have to relive the most painful part of their history together. "Jason, no he's not. He's our son I haven't lied to you yet and I'm not gonna start now."

"She said that we made him together because I walked in on you sleeping with Patrick." He crossed his arms over his chest.

"We did think that at first, but not that long ago we found out that Elizabeth had your sperm and my egg implanted in her uterus. She just thought that it was your sperm and her egg. The woman hasn't liked me since the moment she came to town and she would do just about anything to make my life hell. I have the damn DNA test to prove that he's ours." She told him.

"Is it true that you stood by and just watched someone kidnap our son?" He asked.

"It's true I won't try to deny that. I didn't know that he was our son at the time, but it doesn't make it right at all. Trust me I will spend the rest of my life beating myself up for that. There is nothing that I can do or say that will ever make up for it and there is no way to justify it. As long as we are reliving that part of our past I also hired actors with fake guns to scare Elizabeth and the boys. I'm no saint, but I will own my mistakes. The things that I did back then to try to keep you make me sick when I think about them. I promised myself that it would never come to that between us again and if even looked like it I would walk away." She answered his question with tears welling up in our eyes.

"Elizabeth said that she and I were in love and that you did everything you could to keep us apart. I don't really know what to believe, Sam. You've told me one thing and now I'm hearing this." He stated.

Sam without thinking walked over and slapped him hard across the face. "How dare you? How fucking dare you, Jason? You have no idea what we've been through together or how hard we've had to fight to get the life we have now. For you to just believe what she had to say before even talking to me breaks my heart." Tears streamed down her face.

Jason took a deep, ragged breath. "Sam, I don't know anything right now. I don't know who I am much less what happened in my past. I have no memories right now. What I am supposed to think when I get this story from her? I mean she has been really friendly towards me and gone out of her way to be nice. If we are in love that would explain it." He brought his hand up to his cheek.

She went over to the counter and picked up a file with Jason's name on it. "Here, you wanna know what happened in the past and who you are? Go find out for yourself. Use the PI skills that you've picked up over the last few weeks. Figure out what happened for yourself don't take my word for it and damn sure don't take Elizabeth's word for it." She shoved the file into his hands. They had started it together as a way to teach him more about his history they had gotten up to his accident with AJ.

"Sam, I didn't… I wasn't… I'm sorry. I just wanted to know." He looked down at the floor. He was ashamed of himself for making her feel that way. He was also ashamed for driving her to the brink of what she had done to Jake in the past.

"Then you should have come to me and asked me instead of accusing me. She's tried to destroy every relationship that I've ever had. As a matter of fact so there are no doubts I want you to have that fucking DNA test run again." Fire flashed in her eyes.

"Sam, I don't need the DNA test." He said.

"I want you to get it. I need you to get it. Get out, Jason. Get the fuck out! I don't want you here tonight. As a matter of fact I don't want you back here until you finish your damn investigation into this incident. You can still see the kids, but right now I can't. I'm not supposed to be stressed right now." She put both hands on his chest and pushed her.

"I'm sorry I wasn't trying to upset you." He apologized.

"I said get out, Jason!" She yelled at him.

"Alright, I'm going. I'm so sorry." He said before walking out.

"Oh no, oh hell no. Sam, I love you to the moon and back, but there is no way I'm staying for girls' night with my mom here. Not with both of you pregnant." Claudia turned on her heel to go as soon as she walked through the door and saw Sam and Carly sitting on the couch with cartons of ice cream resting on their bellies.

"Claudia, you are my sister I need you to be with me in my time of need. I threw my asshole husband out of here two nights ago and he hasn't bothered to come back since." Sam played the sympathy card.

"If I have to be here you have to be here." Kristina put her foot down with her older sister.

"I could be home getting laid right now. You better appreciate me." Claudia threw herself down on the other side of Sam. "And Jason isn't an asshole you're just mad at him right now. If you weren't you wouldn't say that about him."

"Ok, so maybe he isn't an asshole I'm just pissed off at him. He texted to check up on the kids and that has been all I have heard from him." Sam sighed loudly. She winced a little in discomfort and grabbed her abdomen.

"Sam, that's like the third time that that's happened. I think you may be going into labor." Molly commented.

"Molly, I am not in labor don't be ridiculous." Sam dismissed her sister's concern.

"Sam, that has been happening on and off all day. The little one may have a point." Maxie observed.

"Why did I invite you over here?" Sam groaned.

"Because you came to invite me and Maxie was right there so you had to invite her too." Lulu provided helpfully.

"I'm starting to rethink that." Sam said. She grabbed her abdomen and doubled over in pain. "Ok, ok, that's not normal at all. I think it may be time to go to the hospital."

Jason was sitting in Jake's having a beer with Liz. He'd spent the last two days trying to get to the bottom of what had gone on with him and Sam during the time that Jake was conceived. He'd spoken to everyone else and now he was talking to Liz again. He took a long pull on his beer bottle and he ignored the buzzing phone in his pocket. "So, Liz, if we were so in love when did it happen?"

"We started off as friends first. We would run to each other in times of crisis and from there it just kind of grew. It came to a head the night of the blackout." Elizabeth smiled at him and took a sip of her beer. "I'm really glad that you asked me out tonight, Jason. It's nice to be able to talk to you without your watch dogs hovering around."

He made a face, but he didn't say anything. "If we were so in love then why didn't raise our son together?"

"Because your life style was just too dangerous for a family." She gave him the line she had been feeding him for years.

"This damn thing." Jason cussed as his phone buzzed again. He turned it off without bothering to see who it was. "I see. I don't understand what I was thinking. Why isn't Jake currently with you?"

"Because Sam managed to find someone to falsify a DNA report. She just can't stand to see you happy with anyone other than her." Elizabeth played the victim card as usual.

He took that answer in stride. At Sam's request he'd had a fresh DNA test run and he'd just gotten the results back. He was interrupted before he could answer.

"Jason Morgan! I don't want to know what you're doing with this floor whore and not answering your phone, but if you want to see your baby born you need to get to the hospital right now!" Maxie sure knew how to make an entrance. She and Lulu had been sent to collect Jason when it became apparent that he wasn't going to answer his phone.

Jason checked his phone and saw that he had missed calls from Sam, Carly, Johnny, and Ethan. "Oh, shit, ok I'm coming right now." He jumped up and grabbed his jacket. "Liz, we are gonna have to take a rain check on this. I have to go." He rushed out the door without another word.

Sam lay in the middle of a hospital bed wearing a gown and panting by the time Jason showed up. Alexis was at her side wiping the sweat off of her brow. "Jase, you made it." The grimace on her face turned to a smile when she saw her husband enter the room.

"Get on in here, daddy, this is your job." Alexis smiled at him. She moved to her daughter's other side. There was no way that she wasn't going to be in the room for this.

"There's no where else in the world I need or want to be for that matter. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have acted the way I did the other night. I should have just taken your word for, because everything you said turned out to be true and when I sat down to talk to her all she did was lie to my face." Jason bent down and kissed her softly.

"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you. I was just so ashamed of myself and the way that I behaved. I didn't know how to say it and I didn't want to drag up the past when we had put it behind us." Sam cried.

"Shh, it's all in the past now. If anyone should be ashamed it's me. I shouldn't have put you in that position and I shouldn't have lied to you. Even if I thought it was for your own good. I should have been honest with you no matter how badly it hurt both of us. None of that matters right now though. The only thing that matters is bringing our little boy into the world." He kissed all over her face.

"We are so not ready for him he doesn't even have a name yet. We never got around to thinking of one and then you had your accident." She took his hand and squeezed the life out of it as she was hit by a contraction.

"You concentrate on bringing him into the world. The rest can be figured out later. Can you do that for me?" He was surprised by the strength she had in her hand.

Sam nodded her head in response.

"Good girl, Peanut." Alexis kissed her forehead. "Jason, I'm glad that you showed up when you did. She was threatening to cross her legs and wait until you came to push."

"I'm sorry I didn't get here sooner. I had my phone on vibrate and like I said I was questioning Elizabeth." Jason replied.

"Jason, don't mention that name inside this room. I can't deal with that bitch. My epidural has not yet kicked in. I am in pain." Sam told him. "Are you ok with my mom being in the room for this? We had discussed it before the accident and you told me it was whatever I wanted because you know how close we are."

"Whatever you need to be comfortable right now. You're the one doing all the hard work if you want your mom here then I am more than ok with it." Jason assured her.

"I need her here I can't do this without both of you. You are two of the most important people in my life." Sam replied tearfully.

"Then she stays." Jason smiled.

"Just so we are clear you didn't really have much of a choice. I was staying unless security dragged me out." Alexis joked.

Jason laughed politely.

"Jase, don't laugh she's not kidding. You don't know her well enough right now to know how crazy she truly is." Sam winked at him.

Sam's labor progressed quickly and after only a couple hours she was pushing. Jason and Alexis both held on to each of her hands.

"Come on, Sam, you can do this. You are the strongest person that I know. If anyone can do this it's you." Jason coached his wife. His kissed her forehead.

"Just focus on Jason, Peanut, squeeze our hands and let us help you be strong right now." Alexis fussed over her like a mother hen.

Sam pushed as hard as she could a few more times before a loud ringing cry filled the room.

"Do you want to cut the cord, dad?" Kelly held up the brand new baby boy for his parents and grandmother to see him.

Jason nodded his head. He took the offered scissors into his hand and clipped his son's cord. Once the baby was cleaned up a nurse placed him in his arms wrapped in a blue blanket. "Look at what we did, Sam? He's beautiful."

"Oh, Peanut he is gorgeous." Alexis said when she caught sight of her new grandson.

"He is beautiful." Sam kissed his head after Jason placed him in her arms. "And I still have no clue what we are going to name him." Just then her body started to go limp and her heart monitor went crazy beeping.

Jason grabbed the baby before he was in any danger of falling.

"Everybody out of the room now. She has a hemorrhage that I have to get under control if you want her to survive." Kelly announced.

A nurse took the baby from Jason and ushered him and Alexis out of the room.

"It's been a damn hour. I can't believe we are still waiting. We should have heard something by now." Sonny paced the waiting room agitatedly.

"If we don't hear something soon I will see what I can find out." Stefan supplied. He too was pacing.

"These things take time and no news is good news at this point." Emily tried to console them.

"Emily, that is my sister in there. I need to know what is going on. I can't stand just sitting around here waiting." Nikolas snapped at her unintentionally.

"This is Sam we are talking about she is gonna be fine. She will get up out of that bed and kick our asses for ever doubting her. She has made it through way tougher scrapes than this before. This can't be the thing that beats her." Johnny was confident, but on the verge of tears as he spoke.

Maxie discreetly took his hand to comfort him.

"That's right she will be up giving us orders in no time." Ethan agreed. He was a member of Sam's posse and there was no way he was going to be anywhere else while she was being operated on.

"Her first orders will probably have to do with an extra large pizza. Let's face it she can eat all of us under the table." Dante laughed softly.

"An extra large pizza and beer she hasn't been able to drink for nine months." Lucky added.

"Jase, you doing ok?" Carly went over to where Jason stood and rubbed his back soothingly.

"I won't be ok until I know that Sam is gonna be ok." Jason shook his head.

"Jason, I may not know much in this world, but I know my niece. She isn't about to leave you and those babies. Not after everything you two have been through together." Tina put her hand on his shoulder.

Lucas Jones walked into the waiting room at the moment dressed in his surgical scrubs. Carly's younger brother's eyes locked in on Jason. "Jason, she's doing ok for now, but they are still trying to get the bleeding under control they sent me out here to ask you do you want us to save her life or preserve her ability to have children if it comes down to that choice?"

"Lucas, what kind of question is that? You save my daughter's life." Sonny barked at him.

"Sonny, don't be so hasty. I want our daughter to be alive and healthy as much as you do, but what does that life look like if she can't have anymore babies?" Alexis stepped in.

"Jase, they can't answer this question for you. What do you want?" Carly asked her best friend before Sonny and Alexis could kill each other.

"Honestly, I don't know. I know that I'm her husband and this is my decision and this is a question I should be able to answer easily, but I can't because I don't know. I can't remember anything. I don't know what to tell them to do. If I choose wrong she's dead and if I choose the other way she's alive, but she hates me. I can't do this I just can't." Jason ran his hands over his face.

"Claudia, what would Sam want? You two are close." Tina tried to get another opinion.

"It's like Jason said it's hard to say. She doesn't make any medical decisions without first consulting Patrick anyway. He's her best friend." Claudia answered at a loss for words.

"Get me Patrick Drake now!" Jason demanded. If he couldn't make the decision on his own he'd get help from the other person who knew Sam better than he did.

Patrick appeared the waiting room less the sixty seconds later. "What's going on? How's my Sammy?" He asked worried for his best friend.

"Drake, help me out. Jones, ask him the question." Jason gestured that it was ok for Lucas to tell Patrick what was going on.

"If it comes down to it Sam's life or her ability to bare children?" Lucas repeated the question for Patrick.

Patrick looked at him like he had lost his mind. "There is no if it comes down to it, Lucas, this is Sam we are talking about. You don't get a choice you have to tell they have to do both. If they can't do both you save her life no question, but they damn sure better have no other option than to take her ability to have kids."

"You heard the man you're gonna have to tell them to do both." Jason ordered.

"You've got it." Lucas rushed back off to where they were working on Sam. Patrick followed behind him.

"Stupid, freaking useless brain. I can't even help my own wife right now or know that she was telling me the truth over some nurse who only seems hell bent on breaking us up." Jason slapped himself on the head angrily. He felt useless. This was his wife and he couldn't even answer that simple question without help.

"Jason Edward Morgan, that is enough. I don't want hear anything like that out of you ever again. You're not useless. You are hurt right now and Sam understands that better than anyone else." Carly scolded him.

Jason nodded his head in understanding.

A few minutes Patrick returned to the waiting room. "Jason, they got her bleeding under control and they gave her a blood transfusion. Thankfully surgery wasn't required and she is going to make a full recovery. You can go back and see her now."

Jason took a deep shuddering breath.

"Come on, I'll walk you." Tina took him by the arm and walked with him back to Sam's room. "This is as far as I go right now. I kinda got the feeling you just needed someone to support you in silence."

"I did thank you, for that. I couldn't express it, but you knew." Jason smiled at her.

"I'm one of your best friends, Jason, of course I knew." Tina smiled back at him.

Jason walked into the room to find Sam awake and alert with the baby in the crib next to her bed. "Hey, you scared me, Davis. Don't do that again."

"I know I did, I'm sorry. I didn't mean too." Sam smiled weakly.

"It's ok, I know that you didn't mean it." Jason picked the baby up and just stared at him in amazement.

"We still don't have him named, daddy." She reminded him.

"He does have a name." He replied. He looked at his son again. "His name is Samuel after his mommy who is the strongest, bravest, kindest person I have ever met." He sat on the edge of Sam's bed and put the baby in her arms and then he held them both.

"Samuel, huh? I think I can live with that." She agreed with him. She relaxed into his embrace, but she felt him stiffen up. "Jase, Jase, you ok?" She asked frantically. "Tina? Carly? Are one of you out there?" She called.

Tina rushed into the room. "Sam, what's wrong?"

"It's Jason, he's not moving or talking." Sam explained quickly.

Tina snapped her fingers in front of his face. "Jason," She shook his arm lightly.

Jason seemed to snap out of whatever trance he was in and he blinked his eyes. He looked at Tina with a smile on his face. "AJ really loved you."

Tina looked at him taken aback for a moment. "What did you just say?"

"I said AJ really loved you." Jason repeated slowly.

"Jase, that's impossible you couldn't know that. Those two weren't together again after your accident." Sam was confused.

Jason tilted her head so that their eyes were locked. "Sam, I remember everything." He stated firmly.

A/N: Here is the next chapter I hope you guys enjoyed it. I know Jason seemed a little out of character and helpless in this chapter, but that was just to show how powerless he felt in his own life due to the memory loss and it was a set up for him to get his memories back. I packed a lot of things into this chapter to make up for the long wait. Until next time please review.
