Chapter 38 - Kisses, Quidditch and Gate-Crashing

It was early on a Saturday morning, Adie was sitting in the Great Hall, all by herself. Harry and Hermione were yet to come down, they'd been at a dinner with Slughorn the previous evening. Ron on the other hand, Adie wasn't expecting for a while, as today would be his first Quidditch match. She expected he would be nervous. She did feel lonely though, sitting by herself. Adie couldn't imagine not seeing get friends every day for school, but it would be happening after this year. Back to her old life of being cooped up in her parent's caravan, always on the road with her protective father and slightly eccentric mother. She sighed.

"Morning Ades."

"Hi Adie."

Adie looked up to see Harry and Hermione taking their seats.

"Hey guys."

Harry was dressed in his Quidditch things and started tucking into some scrambled eggs. Hermione picked up Adie's abandoned copy if the Daily Prophet and began reading the headlines. They all looked up as Ron walked nervously in. He looked paler than usual as he sat down.

"How was it then?"

"How was what?"

Adie elaborated.

"Your dinner party, duh, the one Wallenby and I had the pleasure of not going."

"Pretty boring actually. Although I think Harry enjoyed dessert."

Hermione sent Harry a knowing smirk and Adie frowned to Ron, who shrugged. Hermione took a breath and spoke again.

"Slughorn's having a Christmas do, you know. And we were meant to bring someone."

Ron's mouth operated before his head realised what was happening.

"I suppose you'll be bringing McLaggen. He's in the Slug Club, isn't he?"

Hermione flinched a little.

"Actually I was going to ask you."

"Really?"

Adie cover her mouth and coughed subtly.

"Lavender Brown at your nine o'clock."

As she did so, Lavender tapped Ron on the arm.

"Good luck today, Ron. I know you'll be brilliant."

Harry chortled quietly, whilst Adie bit back a snigger, mainly because they were afraid Hermione would jinx them if they showed any sign of liking Lavender. Ron lent forward as soon as Lavender vanished.

"I'm resigning. After today's match, McLaggen can have my spot."

Harry sighed and shook his head.

"Have it your way. Juice?"

Ron took it.

"Sure."

"Hello everyone."

They all turned to see Luna smiling at them, a weird lion hat thing on her head.

"Hi Luna."

She looked at them.

"You look dreadful Ron. Is that why you put something in his cup?"

Luna looked over at Harry.

"Is it a tonic?"

They saw a glint of light and the shape of a bottle as Harry put something into his pocket.

"Liquid Luck...don't drink it Ron!"

Of course, Ron didn't listen to Hermione and downed the entire goblet. Harry looked over at his friend, who looked furious. Ginny and Adie on the other hand were both smirking.

"You could be expelled for that."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Ron beamed.

"Come on, Harry, we've got a game to win."

The boys stood up and marched cheerily from the hall. After calming Hermione down, the girls followed them to the Quidditch pitch.

Against Slytherin, in the freezing cold, everyone was cheering for Gryffindor. And what a game they got, you should've been there. On every attack, Ron was there ready to defend the goals of the lions. He kicked a ball away there, caught a quaffle here a d managed not to fall off his broom. The crowds were going wild, chanting his name as he swooped to block another goal. Hermione shook her head at this and Adie whispered in her ear.

"Lighten up, he's enjoying himself."

"Weasley. Weasley. Weasley."

Ginny lead the chasers beautifully across the air, scoring amazing goals which many were in awe of. Behind them, Adie and Hermione could hear the booming cries of Ron's name and chuckled, clapping along with their friends. The cheering went all the way into the evening, after Gryffindor soared to victory.

Ron stood surrounded and proud as people chanted his name, cheering him in his stride. Adie, Harry and Hermione beamed for him and shook their heads.

"You really..."

"Really."

"Thanks for that Adie. As I was saying you really shouldn't have done that."

Harry nodded.

"I know. I suppose I could've just used the Confundus Charm."

He smirked as Hermione went pale. Adie burst out cackling.

"Oh burned!"

Hermione stuttered.

"That was different. That was try outs, this was an actual game."

Harry smirked again and fished in his pocket. Their friend pulled out the little glass bottle, which was still filled with the yellowish liquid.

"Nice! Smooth!'

"You didn't put it in? Ron only thought you did?"

Harry nodded and grinned at his own genius. They all looked over when screams erupted, just in time to see Lavender Brown smack her lips against Ron's.

"OH MY GOD!"

Adie clapped her hands over her mouth and turned to her friends. Harry was laughing loudly at the snogging pair, but Hermione was staring and backing out of the common room. Adie slapped Harry on the chest and pointed after her. Harry nodded.

"I'll go after her."

He vanished into the crowd and Adie wondered whether or not Ron would be able to detach himself from his tongue-buddy without any help.

After those two ran off, Adie saw Hermione and Harry emerge a little while later. Judging by her red eyes, she knew that Hermione and Ron were not in a good place.

Well the last week before the Christmas holidays was very eventful. Adie felt like she was reliving her fourth year, except this time she was trying to get Hermione and Ron to talk. Harry found out that a girl, Romilda Vane, had been trying to smuggle him love potion. Adie was now going to Hermione's for Christmas, rather than Ron's, to try and get them to talk again...not because she was trying to avoid George.

Now, on the eve before their departure home, Harry had asked her to Slughorn's ball. It had been either her or Luna. Adie snorted as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Harry had asked her very nicely to wear a light blue dress, which circled her shoulders and reached her calves nicely...much classier than her choice of jeans and a top just to annoy the Potions Master.

"Should've asked Lovegood. At least Slughorn notices her."

Harry chuckled as they approached the office.

"Well somehow, I think she still managed to get invited...dunno how, but she did."

They laughed and entered the bustling room. Adie marvelled at the decorations, but frowned when she saw Neville dressed in uniform.

"Why th-"

"Drink, Harry, Adie?"

"No thanks."

"I didn't get into the Slug Club."

Adie patted his arm.

"Know the feeling."

They talked a little more, but then Adie and Harry spotted a suspicious looking person hiding behind a curtain. It was Hermione.

"What are you doing?"

Adie snorted.

"More like what happened to you?"

Hermione spoke breathlessly.

"I've just escaped. I mean, I left Cormac under the mistletoe."

Like a true friend, Adie burst out laughing.

"Amazing choice there Hermione!"

"Shut up Adrian."

"She's got a point though Hermione."

Their friend looked down sheepishly.

"I thought it would annoy Ron the most. He's got more tentacles than a Snarfalump plant!"

A waiter appeared carrying a smelly looking tray.

"Dragon tartar?"

After he explained the consequences of bad breath, Hermione grabbed the try and scoffed one down.

"Oh god here he comes."

Adie grabbed her friends arm.

"Harry distract him!"

The girls darted from the curtain and managed to hide away for the rest of the evening. When they returned there was a conspicuous pike of vomit by the curtain and it had happened that Draco Malfoy had "interrupted" the affair. Apparently he was lead out by Snape, so they decided to not let it bother them. Though both girls agreed to leave the party shortly afterwards after failing to find Harry again.

Ta da! I've sufficiently made up for my lapse...now if only I did that for my other stories…. :S will update ASAP TTFN x
