Damon Logic
A.N: I'm sorry for taking this long to upload guys, as you know our former president Nelson Mandela passed away and the whole country has been in mourning. So I haven't really had time to write anything. I know I suck please forgive me, (cowers in a corner). It's been a really exhausting week what with all the mourning and services. I think it's pretty cool that Obama came over to give his condolences, that was nice of him. Anyway, this chapter has a few shockers or maybe it won't be that shocking but I was shocked while typing it. I really hope you guys like it, coz I worked really hard dammit!
Oh and apparently I'm supposed to do a disclaimer so:
I don't own Vampire Diaries or any of its characters however I do own the Trinity and the Phoenix. Don't try and sue me, coz I'm broke as hell.
Chapter 39
Flashback (50 years ago, 1963 Arizona)
Damon stood by the kitchen counter glaring at Bianca with his arms crossed across his chest. Instead of squirming under his heavy gaze like her sisters she stared right back at him with the same intensity.
"You three need to leave the country, tonight" he said gritting his teeth in a no nonsense tone.
With a snort Bianca placed her hands on her hips looking at him like he was crazy. "He found us, which means that he's watching the airports. We can't just leave the country" she said ignoring his low growl.
"Well then wave your magic wands and disguise yourselves" he said sarcastically before cocking his head "Or would you rather hang around here and wait?" he asked clenching his jaw.
"It doesn't work that way!" she yelled in exasperation "Besides they can track us now, you know that!" she growled balling her hands into fists.
"Guys…" Betty tried to interject but was promptly ignored as Damon yelled back at Bianca.
"It doesn't work this way it doesn't work that way, I swear you're the only damn witches that say that! You should be thanking me and doing as your told but instead you wanna see fault in everything I say!" he yelled walking toward Bianca.
"Because nothing you say makes sense! We can't leave the country and you know it, I'm sorry you got your ass kicked by a vampire that was younger than you I really am but it's not like we asked for your help!...in fact we gave you an opportunity to leave!" She yelled stepping toward him.
"Opportunity to leave? Really? You expected me to just leave you there? What kind of man do you think I am?" He gritted out, his anger barely under control.
"Oh believe me, you don't want the answer to that one" Bridget mumbled under her breath knowing he could hear her.
Ignoring her he balled his hands into fists and turned his back on the girls before taking a few cleansing breathes in an attempt to calm himself.
"Ok look, maybe we should drive up to California and take a plane from there?" Bianca asked having calmed down, she placed a hand on his shoulder and was relieved to find he hadn't shaken her off.
"Thought you said he was watching the airports?" he murmured staring out the window blankly.
"We'll try that spell to disguise ourselves, maybe we'll get lucky, and if we don't we've never shied away from a fight" she said reassuringly, she was interrupted again by Betty who looked like she'd seen a ghost.
"Guys!" she called again in a distressed voice getting the attention of Damon and her sisters.
"What?" Bianca asked removing her hand from his shoulder to walk toward her.
"He's outside" she whispered in reply, her blue eyes wide with fear.
"What?!, I don't see anyone" Damon said suddenly alert as he looked out the kitchen window before speeding to the front door.
"I can feel him, the garden I planted outside, it's like my alarm system" Betty explained following him to the front door as he swung it open to look outside.
"There's no one out here" he said about to close the door when an invisible force kept it open before pushing him back. "What the hell?" he groaned getting up from the floor wincing a little.
"I don't appreciate vampires that don't know their place Mr. Salvatore." Leo said stepping through the front door followed by a man and a woman both dressed in black.
"And what is my place exactly?" Damon asked getting up to face the elder who looked as amused as ever.
"Your running around with my trinity making them do little spells for you as if they belong to you, you can see why I would be a little upset by that don't you?" he asked smiling when the trinity came to stand next to Damon with determined looks on their faces, they never failed to amuse him.
"And who do we belong to?" Bridget asked boldly ignoring the worried glances her sisters through at her.
"To me of cause, You know that better than anyone" he answered almost mockingly.
"You son of a-" Bridget started but was stopped by Damon who grabbed hold of her arm.
"Are we going to have to have a repeat of New York?, or is there a specific reason for you being here?" Damon asked feigning boredom.
"Ah Damon, another example of you not knowing your place." Leo mused before continuing "Yes I would like for the trinity to return home, I have had enough of humouring them over the century" he said running a hand through his hair.
"Humouring us?" Bridget gritted out only being held back by Damon's hand on her arm.
"Yes my dear, humouring you…You belong to the phoenix you always have and nothing you say or do will change that. We'll always find you wherever you go, so instead of wasting another century I suggest you stop this tantrum you're throwing and return home" and with that last word he sent a wave of pain over Damon making him cry out in agony before dropping to the floor holding on to his skull.
"Leave him alone!" Bianca yelled as veins appeared under her eyes before she pushed the spell back at Leo. Throwing up a barrier she turned to her sisters who nodded at her silent question before forming a triangle around Damon. "I'm sorry mom" she murmured lowly before chanting a familiar spell engulfing the entire hall in a white light.
"Guys no, just run" Damon yelled getting up trying to stop them but he was ignored as the house began to shake uncontrollably.
Soon the floor boards began to rise and the windows exploded but the light subsided and the room stopped shaking.
Leo chuckled at the sight of the three demonic looking women that were staring back at him.
"The trinity, always a sight to behold" he said smiling at their transformation with awe.
End of flashback
"I assume you're here for the trinity" Damon stated more than asked, his gaze intent on the elder in front of him.
"Assumptions" Leo murmured with a chuckle, "I truly hate them, they set one up for disappointment" he said with a sigh glancing at the trinity before returning his gaze to Damon. "Do you think they could handle it? Another transformation?" he asked with a smirk which faltered when he heard Damon's chuckles.
"You don't know do you?" he asked between chuckles "And to think I was actually getting a little worried" he finished wiping away an imaginary tear.
With a frown Leo sent a wave of pain at Damon and raised a questioning eyebrow when it had no effect on the vampire. "What is this?" he asked lowly glaring at the smirking vampire.
"Just evening the playing field a little, you know to make things fair" Damon answered.
With a sigh Leo rested both his hands on his cane. "You seem to know something that I don't Mr Salvatore, care to share with the class?" Leo inquired.
"Well its simple really" Damon answered after a couple of seconds of contemplation "Things have changed in the last fifty years." He said looking over at the trinity. "What are you guys still doing behind that barrier? I thought you were supposed to be all powerful!" he asked mockingly.
"Well I'm sorry!" Bridget yelled angrily ignoring the raised eyebrows of the people in the room "You get infected with some weird ass virus and tell us if you feel all powerful!" she yelled waving her fist at him.
"You don't look sick to me" he mumbled before turning his attention back to Leo.
"That doesn't answer my question" Leo sighed running a hand through his snow white hair. "Why don't you just give me a direct answer?"
"You can't just show up in my home town and start demanding answers….that isn't very respectful of you, aren't you elders supposed to have manners?" he asked raising an eyebrow in question.
"Forgive me, you're right. But please indulge me, how is it that you are up and about?" Leo asked calmly.
"Well there are these things below my belt that are called legs or limbs depen-" he started but stopped at the glare Bonnie threw at him as she walked toward him. "I don't know, all I know is I feel better than ever" he answered passively.
"Interesting" Leo murmured looking at the Bennett walking toward them. "Miss Bennett, care to shed some light on the situation?" he asked amused when he saw her flinch at his spike of power.
"I've been too busy with preparing to care" she answered flippantly ignoring Damon's glare.
"Ah yes, the veil" he said with a warm smile that almost made her think that he wasn't that bad. "I trust you've found a way to fix your mistakes, after all the veil was your family's responsibility" he finished his face hardening.
Gritting her teeth she forced herself to look away before she said anything. "I've figured out how it was created yes, I can do the spell now" she said looking back at him when she was sure that she'd calmed down.
"Wonderful" he's elegant voice boomed. "Alexander, I want you to assist miss Bennett" he called over at his subordinate who had been guarding Joshua.
"Yes sir" Lex said walking toward Bonnie apprehensively when he saw the protective emotion flash across Damon's face.
….
"Are we there yet?" Katherine whined childishly earning a glare from everyone.
"And this is the woman our brother decided to chase after for the better part of 500 years?" Kol asked Rebekah in disbelief.
"Which brother?" Elena mumbled but immediately straightened her back when he looked back at her with a smile that sent a chill down her spine before returning his gaze back to the felines in front of them.
"We're almost there" Alice called back before stopping abruptly behind David.
"We're here" the oversized lion growled standing in front of a dead end.
Suddenly everyone was pulled out of their thoughts when Rebekah suddenly gasped next to Kol.
"What?" Stefan asked stepping toward them before visibly stiffing at the sight of Kol's image which seemed to be blurring.
"Their closing the veil" Kol said looking down at his hands which seemed to be blurring before appearing solid again.
It continued on like this for a few minutes and Stefan wondered why Kol seemed so calm about the whole thing until it all stopped and Kol appeared normal again.
"What? it didn't work?" Caroline asked looking at the smirking Original.
"Looks like the witch held on to her end of the bargain" he said looking down at his hands with a smirk.
"What?" Rebekah asked interest picked but was ignored as Kol walked over to the portal the witch/felines had created.
"Guys, you have to hurry we can't keep it open forever" Alice's voice rang sparking everyone into rushing toward the portal.
…..
Flashback( 5 mins ago)
Stepping inside a circle of candles she'd set up Bonnie motioned for Lex to join her. He reluctantly complied ignoring the cold glare he'd been receiving from Damon.
"What do you need me to do?" he asked apprehensively only relaxing when she offered him a reassuring smile.
"Just give me your energy…I'll do the rest" she said shaking out her hands before taking his and falling into a trance like state before muttering low beneath her breath in old Latin.
Focussing on channelling his energies and sending it to her he missed the gasps from Alaric and Sheila Bennett as they started fading.
"It's working…keep going" Sheila called to her granddaughter as she felt the familiar pull of the veil while she faded from their vision.
Trying not to focus on the sound of her grandmother's voice or the stinging of tears in her eyes she continued the chant closing the veil completely.
With a nonchalant wave to Damon, Alaric disappeared completely along with Sheila who managed to leave him a death threat if he hurt her granddaughter.
Opening his eyes Lex watched in amazement as the flames from the candles creating a cage of fire around them. Until he realised that Bonnie was still chanting.
"Bonnie?" he called letting go of her hands to grab her shoulders. "Bon?!" he called louder and more desperate when she continued chanting.
"I have to finish" she answered lowly when he shook her slightly before continuing her chant making the flames stretch higher.
Finally after a few minutes the flames disappeared and Bonnie stopped chanting before opening her tear stained eyes.
"It's done" she said for the second time that night finally feeling the fatigue catch up to her. She fell into a sitting position on the dusty ground wiping the tears from her eyes before setting her jaw.
"It appears so miss Bennett" Leo answered with a smirk
End flash back
"What was our deal miss Bennett?" Leo asked after a few minutes of watching Damon make sure she was ok.
"That if I put up a new veil that we'd all be free" she answered almost automatically, standing up with Damon's help ignoring Lex's hand.
"Correct, I also remember telling you that an Elders word is bound with blood" he said walking toward Joshua who immediately tensed up.
"So, we're free to go?" she asked, frowning when she was ignored as he kept he's steady trip to the young warlock.
With a flick of his wrist he forced Joshua to stand before removing the salt that bound him. Walking toward the boy Leo rested a hand on his shoulder before whispering something in the boy's ear. Realisation flooded the boy's face before his gaze flittered over to Bonnie who stood uncomfortably waiting for the Elder to answer her question.
Continuing his instructions to the boy Leo signalled his subordinates who returned their black masks to their faces before opening a new portal.
Lightly slapping the boy's cheek twice Leo turned and smiled warmly at Bonnie. "I told you that an Elders word is bound with blood," he said walking toward the portal where his subordinates waited for him. "However that relies completely on whether you are being truthful or not" he said with a smirk at Bonnie's shocked expression. "Quite cunning you are miss Bennett, you remind me of their mother" he said motioning to the trinity "However I have lived long enough to know when someone is trying to pull the wool over my eyes" he continued with a light chuckle.
"The veil was never completely destroyed to begin with therefore our agreement is null in void" he said with a parting wave before stepping into the portal followed be his subordinates before disappearing.
….
"Bonnie!" Caroline called rushing through another portal toward her awe struck friend.
"Care?" Bonnie wheezed out in disbelief as her blonde friend held her in an almost bone crushing hug.
"I was so worried about you" Caroline whispered letting go of her friend when Damon pulled her off.
"What happened?" Stefan asked Damon noting the missing vampires.
"I could ask you the same thing brother" Damon said motioning to the felines and Kol who'd still been standing around nonchalantly.
"Kol?" Bianca called out in disbelief at the original vampire who strolled lazily over to her.
"What have you gotten yourself into darling?" he asked eying the circle of salt they were stuck behind.
"How are you here?" she asked blinking repetitively not quite trusting her eyes.
"Does my presence truly require you twitching your eyes like that?" he asked with a sigh as he studied the salt. "An unbinding spell should do the trick" he murmured lowly in contemplation.
"What are you doing here? You pompous ass!" she yelled gaining his full attention. He regarded her with amusement dancing in his eyes, he loved this, her fiery attitude though he didn't appreciate her cursing or calling him pompous.
"I'm here to help you love, is that ok with you?" he asked in a sarcastic tone that made her gape like a fish.
"But you're supposed to be dead" she whispered and his tone softened at noting the unshed tears in her baby blue eyes.
"As you can see, I'm very much alive" he said good naturedly giving her a warm smile he only reserved for her. "Don't ask why" he said stopping her from asking.
Nodding in understanding she returned her gaze to the salt that separated her from the man she loved.
"I really hate to break all this up" Joshua's voice rang coldly, grabbing everyone's attention. "But Leo left me with a set of instructions" he said with a smirk and his arms folded in front of him as he stepped out of the salt circle.
The entire group stopped on their conversations, while David, Alice and Ruby transformed back into their human forms with everyone's backs turned. Pulling her t-shirt over her head after making sure she was decent Alice came forward to eye the young warlock.
"And what were his instructions exactly?" she asked venomously still keeping a grudge from when he trapped them inside the tunnels.
"Oh they're quite simple actually" Joshua said with a smirk before waving his hand again when no one was ready sending them all except for Damon into their own individual circles of salt binding each of them behind a barrier. "He wants me to…Kill Damon" he said motioning to Damon. "And bring the Bennett wannabe's and yes that includes you Bonnie, back to the phoenix" he said with a low chuckle.
Damon made to speed toward Joshua when suddenly his brain felt like it was on fire. "I figured out your little trick vampire" Joshua said walking toward Damon who was clutching his head.
"This ring" he said raising Damon's daylight ring that had somehow made its way into his hand "It protects you not only from the sun but also from my kind" he said with a low chuckle before tossing it to the side.
"Why are you doing this?" Damon asked gritting through the pain to look up at the warlock "I thought you hated Leo, he killed your parents, he treated you like crap" he gasped when the pain stopped. "So why?" he asked again breathing heavily.
"Ah but you see, he's offered me something better…I'm sure you know about the phoenix ritual" he said bending down to Damon's level now on the ground.
"What? are you crazy? It's only for the chosen and you know it" Damon answered ignoring the questioning looks from the witches and vampires locked behind barriers.
"Yes, and finding out I wasn't one of the chosen really sucked but then I heard of this awesome loop hole, you see if you can gather enough dark magic and enough sacrifices…say all of you, then doing the ritual can still be done" he said smiling widely revealing his deep dimples. "Now I know that you know that I don't have nearly enough dark magic so I went through the phoenix scrolls and documents and do you know what I found?" he asked pulling out an old page from his pocket before handing it to Damon.
Damon opened the page slowly and frowned at what he saw. "This is…" Damon started but was cut off by Joshua's chuckles.
"Yes, the expression triangle. It was really hard actually completing the three massacres but when I did" he paused to look over at Bonnie who had been glaring at him "I felt this overwhelming amount of power just surging through my veins, I'm sure you felt the same Bonnie…the need to blow things up." He said with a light shudder. "It took a while to get it all under control but I did" he said with a calculating smile.
"So if you have all this power, then why do you need to do the phoenix ritual when you already have all the power you need" Damon asked confused.
"I don't know If you know this Damon," he whispered conspiringly. "But witches and warlocks don't have the same life cycles as a werewolf or a vampire. Now I know there are witches who are well into their hundreds still looking like they're in their fifties but I don't like the idea of dying all that much and I'm sure you can understand why, Now I know you know that a witch cannot practice magic if they become one of the un-dead so, why not go for the next best thing?" he asked with a tilt of his head.
"Are you really that dumb?" Damon asked getting up to stand. "What makes you think that Leo won't screw you over the second you arrive back there with them?" he asked when Joshua stood up to his full height trying and failing to intimidate Damon who was at least a head taller.
"He won't, he gave me his word and an Elder's word is…" Joshua started but was cut off by Damon.
"If you say bound in blood then I swear I'll rip out your tongue and feed it to one of your pet dogs" Damon said threateningly before continuing "and did you not just see him screwing us over or did that just fly over your head?" he asked condescendingly.
With an angry growl Joshua sent pain through Damon's brain again before walking toward Bonnie.
He was surprised when he felt Damon about to speed over to him before he knocked the vampire down again with his magic.
"Stay out of this bloodsucker" he hissed lowly before walking closer to Bonnie who looked like she could break through the barrier and maim him, he doubted she actually could but he was still amused.
Looking around he spotted Stefan's anguished expression at seeing his brother in pain and Elena trying to comfort him much to Bridget's subtle annoyance he noted.
"You four are coming with me, the rest of you…I couldn't care less what you do" he said about to open a portal when Damon suddenly grabbed on to him before whirling him around and plunging a dagger into his midsection.
He would have laughed if it didn't hurt so bad, so instead he fell onto his knees before ripping the knife from his midsection.
Ignoring the surprised looks from everyone, Joshua turned to face the vampire that stabbed him.
"How?" Damon asked in disbelief.
"Expression" he said raising his shirt to demonstrate his healing stab wound. "Is the power of your will…it can do anything" he said with a smirk.
"Worried yet Salvatore? Or do you have a few more cracks you wanna make?" Joshua asked throwing the dagger away before pulling out a stake.
….
