Chapter 37

I am in the green room still and am rubbing my hands on the soft plush sofa to try to calm myself. I can feel the anxiety building up. I have a feeling this is some sort of test but, according to Snow I am never going back in here unless I break his deal.

I close my eyes.

"It's okay you're fine." I whisper to myself and hear the door open and open my eyes.

"Does that make you feel better Dylan?" Hector asks.

I gulp, I hoped it wouldn't be him. He is very terrible.

"Well, I assume you are confused as to why I brought you here." He says.

"Yes, I'm not supposed to be back here." I say.

"I know but, I still get to assess you whenever you need a refill. I can cut you off at any time how does that make you feel?"

"I don't think you have that power." I mumble.

He looks at me confused.

"Now what makes you say that."

"I have my sources." I smile.

"I bet you. What with you being friends with the President and all." He smiles.

"I just want to leave." I say.

"And you will Just give me your arm." I say.

"My arm?"

"Yes, I want to give you a shot."

"No!" I shout. I remember all the shots they gave me in here. They made me see things. I don't want that to happen again.

He rolls his eyes.

"I'm not going to kill you."

"I know you're going to do this." I show him the injection marks that left a scare from when I was first got here. They kept giving it to me the whole time I was in here and I didn't like it.

"You don't have my free will any longer. I get to say what happens to me and this is not going to happen." I stand up.

"But, Dylan-

"No, it doesn't matter. I'm sure I could get this stuff imported from the Capitol. Now if you'll excuse me I have plans." I say and stand up. Hector looks surprised I don't think he planned on me realizing this.

"Mr. Watt just know that we could easily make this worse if need be."

"Let's do that then." I say. I'm never going back in here. He can come up with as many terrible ways to torture me as he likes because he will never be able to test them out.

"Alright but, let's just remember this conversation." He says.

I get up and leave. I head back to Mabel's desk.

"Are you alright Dylan?" She asks.

"I need you to put in an order to the Capitol." I say.

She smiles.

"I have it set up already. It should be here in a few days."

"Good."

"Next time you don't have to come here just call it in Dylan." She tells me.

"Thank you Mabel."

"Don't mention it Dylan." She smiles.

"It was nice seeing you."

She smiles and I leave the hospital. I hope to never return back here.

"Dylan, what are you doing here?" Emily asks me suprised.

"Can I not visit my sister at work especially on her last week."

She rolls her eyes.

"You can, it's just I thought you would be with Carter or Tyler."

"Emily please you're more important than they are. You're my sister and you have always been here and always will be."

"I think Tyler has as well." She says.

"No like you."

"You're not going to deny the Carter situation."

I shrug.

"It's not like that anymore."

She smiles.

"If she breaks your heart do I have permission to get rid of her."

"Isn't that supposed to be my role?"

"I don't have anyone ATM." She smiles.

"ATM how old are you?"

She rolls her eyes and I hear the bell ring that singles that customers are here.

"Hello Emily, is Charles here." I hear Conor Odair ask and roll my eyes.

"He's in the back you can follow me."

"Finnick, stay here I will be right back." He tells his son and follows Emily to the back. Finnick comes and sits next to me.

"You're that guy, the one I saw on the beach."

"Oh right that." I say.

"My dad says you're... crazy." He whispers crazy as if it is a bad word maybe he thinks I will be offended. I remember his sister didn't want to be around me but, he didn't seem to care. Even though he is twelve he seems innocent still, I wonder when that will wear off.

"Lot's of people say that Finnick."

"I don't think you are."

"Well, then you are naive."

He shrugs.

"What's your father doing here anyways." I ask. I doubt he knows.

"Dropping off the fish duh."

"Duh." I roll my eyes slightly annoyed. "Is that going to be you in the future?" I ask.

"Probably but, right now he is too busy teaching us how to kill." He says so softly that I barely hear him.

"For, the Hunger Games." I hope that is what he is training them for, I hope he isn't doing it just for the hell of it.

He nods.

"What's it like?" He asks.

"I don't want to talk about this Finnick." I tell him. I don't know if he means the arena, the Capitol, or killing someone but I don't want to talk about any of them.

He nods.

"I have an older sister too." He says.

"That's nice." I already knew this I don't get why he is talking to me maybe he thinks I'm lonely. I don't want his pity especially from a twelve year old kid.

"Finnick, time to go." His father says in a voice of disapproval.

They leave and I can hear his father scolding him and telling him not to talk to me.

"What did he want?" I ask Emily.

"To give Charles the fish he promised. I heard you talking to his son."

"That kid is strange." I say.

"Why?"

"He is nice."

She laughs

"I didn't know that was a crime."

"He's too nice and too innocent."

"He's just a kid Dylan."

"Well, apparently Conor is teaching his kids how to kill."

She shrugs.

"Lots of people do it. I don't care it is better to know how to do something. Though people from the middle level are already at an advantage because they know how to do a decent amount of things from being around boats."

I nod.

"I guess."

"I'm sure Mom and Dad would've done the same thing for us."

I give her a doubtful look.

"Alright maybe just Mom." She says.

"No, Dad could teach us a good one two punch." I say with disapproval.

Emily looks uncomfortable she doesn't like facing the truth about our home life. She just wanted to pretend that she didn't know what was going on.

"My shift is over." She says and steps out from the counter. I can see the blood and guts from the fish on her apron but, I relate it to blood and guts from people. I think of Elena. I back away from her and hit the back wall. I feel isolated, I feel afraid, I feel like there is no air in here. Emily grabs my shoulders her lips are moving but, I can't hear what she is saying.

I close my eyes and when I open them I can hear her.

"Dylan, Dylan you're okay. It's fine. It wasn't real." She tells me even though she has no idea what I was thinking she still feels the need to say it.

"It was real because it did happen." I say. "Can you take that off." I motion to her apron. She looks confused. "The blood..." I say.

Her face has realization and she takes it off.

"I'm sorry, it's okay Dylan."

"Don't apologize this is the last week you will have to wear that anyways."

"Ah yes, I will miss smell of fish." She says sarcastically.

"I won't." I say.

She smiles.

"Let's go home."

She grabs my arm and we walk home but, she isn't leading me towards Victors Village.

"Where are you taking me?" I ask confused.

"Like I said home."

"But...

"We may live in Victors Village but, you only have one home and that is-

"The shabby shake." I say.

"Why must you call it that especially when it is all fixed up now."

"Because I have called it that since I was yay high." I say.

Emily rolls her eyes.

"I don't remember the last time I was here."

"Don't be so dramatic Dylan you just haven't been here in a few months. Wait not even because you came and saw Carter last week."

"I meant our house."

"Oh."

"Well, it is always here waiting for you." She says as we walk into the house and I lay down on the couch.

"I know but, coming here is different because... of everything that happened."

She nods.

"I understand but, sometimes it's nice to just forget all that bad stuff and just live."

"If it were only that easy." I say.

"Maybe one day it will be."

"Hopefully." I agree.

I hope one day I will be okay and that I can just live but, I think I know that won't happen, not anytime soon anyways.

A/N: How do you like having young Finnick in this? He will only be in it here in there before he is called into his games. I just thought it would be cute to see how innocent was before the games. Thanks for reading and reviewing and all that jazz. I really like it especially on this story. Out of all my stories this one is mostly original characters. Thanks again for reading!
