Chapter 36: Don't Go
Jack POV:
7 months later…
Elsa let out a deep sigh, "Because, it's my job."
"It's my job, too." I argued.
She rolled her eyes, "They're requesting to meet the CEO. You, my love, are not the CEO."
But, still. A business trip?! For three weeks?!
"I still don't understand why I can't go with you."
"If you come with me, who will stay home and take care of Noah?" She asked.
"We can leave him with Anna." I whined, "She loves him."
"For three weeks?" She scoffed, "He's never been away from us that long. He needs you, Jack."
"I just don't want you to be alone."
"I won't be alone." She assured, "I'm traveling with a very special man."
I grinned, "Don't tease. Wesselton is not special."
"He's attractive for an old man." She joked.
"But, I'm your husband." I said, kissing her hand. "So, I think I win."
She smiled, "You're right. Now, if you don't mind, I have to pack."
I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her hair. Elsa sighed, but hugged me anyway.
"Don't go." I pleaded.
"I'll be back before you know it."
I slumped down on the bed as Elsa walked towards the closet and pulled out a suitcase.
"Need help?" I asked.
She smiled, "Sure, if you insist."
I climbed out of bed and helped her pack all of her clothing and necessities. It was late when we finally finished packing, so we laid down exhaustedly. I wrapped my arms around my wife and closed my eyes. But before we could fall asleep, we heard the loud cries of our child. I groaned, and Elsa giggled. She sat up and climbed out of bed.
"I'll be right back."
"No, I'll go with you." I insisted, rubbing my eyes.
I stood up and followed behind my wife towards the nursery. Elsa walked to the crib and held our son in her arms, wiping his tears. In moments, he had quieted down.
"I'm going to miss him." Elsa whispered, as she kissed Noah's forehead. I rested my chin on her shoulder as our gazes rested on our son. He had grown so much in these past seven months, and every moment spent with him was magical. Being parents was more of a blessing than I could have imagined.
Elsa sighed, "And, I'll miss you too, Jack."
"Me too."
The next morning…
I rushed down the stairs to load Elsa's luggage onto the car. I really didn't want her to be away from us for three weeks. I mean, that's almost an entire month! How was I supposed to manage with Elsa away for that long? But, what the hell could I do about it now? I was already sending her away. Hesitantly, I loaded the suitcase into the car.
I huffed as I ran back inside the house, "Snowflake, you're going to need to be a bit quicker if you want to make it onto that plane in time!"
"Hang on a second!" She hollered, "Let me just finish dressing Noah!"
I ran upstairs and into the nursery. I smiled as I saw Elsa bouncing Noah up and down on his dresser. Noah giggled loudly while Elsa laughed along with him. I walked to them and wrapped my arm around Elsa's hip.
"You call this 'dressing'?"
She smiled, "Well, I was dressing him before you came up here."
"C'mon," I whispered, "you have a plane to catch."
She sighed, "Okay."
"We can say our goodbyes at the airport." I said.
Elsa nodded and took our baby in her arms, and we all walked downstairs. Once we were in the car, I drove as fast as I could to the airport.
"You know all of Noah's schedules, right?" Elsa asked as I drove. "His feeding times, nap times, and when to pick him up from Kai and Gerda's?"
"Yes, ma'am." I assured. "Don't worry, I'll have it all under control."
"Remember, I'll call you every night as soon as I get off from work." She reminded. "But, our time zones are different, so it might be a little late when you get my call."
"Don't you dare fall asleep until you get my call." She scolded. "Do you understand me, Jack Frost?"
"I understand." I chuckled.
When we arrived at the airport, we hurriedly grabbed the luggage and the baby and walked inside.
"Wesselton says to meet him near the gate." She explained.
I groaned, "Wesselton better not try anything."
We walked faster while carrying the huge load that is Elsa's luggage. Noah was happily sitting in his car seat, not bothered by the bumpy ride as we ran across the airport.
"There he is." Elsa said.
Wesselton was dressed extremely casually and had a few suitcases at his side. It was strange to see him so carefree, since he always wore formal clothes when we saw each other.
"Mrs. Winters!" Wesselton exclaimed waving at my wife, he turned to me and his smile drooped. "And, Mr. Frost, of course."
He looked past us and his eyes fell on Noah.
"Oh my goodness, is that little Noah?" He smiled.
Elsa nodded as I took him out of his car seat.
"That's our baby." Elsa announced.
"May I hold him?" He asked, "I am extremely good with children, I have a few grandkids of my own."
"Sure." I said hesitantly and carefully handed Wesselton the baby.
Almost instantly, Noah started whimpering and began to cry.
"Oh, no." Wesselton said as he tried to calm the baby. "Babies usually love me."
I shrugged and held Noah in my arms, "I guess this one doesn't."
And another thing that Noah has in common with me. Like father, like son.
Elsa cleared her throat to end the awkwardness, "Don't worry about it, he just hasn't met you before."
"Right, I'm sure that's it." He laughed nervously.
"Flight 27 to Andalasia will be departing in ten minutes." A female voice announced.
"Maybe you should all say your goodbyes now, we wouldn't want to miss the plane." Wesselton suggested.
Elsa nodded, "Right."
She turned to face me and sighed.
"This is it, Snowflake." I announced.
I wrapped my arm around her in a tight embrace, the other arm held our son.
"I'm going to miss you." Elsa whispered, I could tell she was about to cry.
I kissed her hair, "Don't cry, Snowflake."
"I'm not." She assured, and wiped her eyes.
Elsa turned to the baby in my arms and took him into her embrace.
"Mommy will be back soon." Elsa promised, "I know you'll be on your best behavior for Daddy."
God, I sure hope so.
"Flight 27 to Andalasia will be departing in five minutes."
"Remember to call me, call me every single day." Elsa reminded me.
I chuckled, "Alright, alright."
"You have to keep me updated, just in case I miss anything."
"Like what?" I asked.
"You know, first words, first steps, and other things like that." She shrugged.
I laughed, "He's seven months old, and I don't think he'll learn to talk or walk while you're gone."
"Still." She grinned.
"Okay." I agreed, "I'll let you know if something special happens."
Wesselton cleared his throat, "Mrs. Winters, I think it's about time we leave."
"Alright, hang on." Elsa sighed.
She turned to me and placed a kiss on my lips, "I'll see you soon."
"We'll be waiting." I smiled.
She took Noah into her arms and peppered his face with kisses, "Bye, Noah."
She gave him back to me and placed another kiss on my lips before grabbing her luggage.
"Take care of my wife, Wesselton." I said.
He nodded, "Not to worry, she is in safe hands."
"Bye, Jack! Bye, Noah!" She waved as they started walking away. "I love you both!"
"We love you, too!" I called.
"Noah, can you say 'bye, mommy'?" I asked, raising my son's arm to wave at his mother.
I watched as Elsa and Wesselton disappeared into the gate, and the flight departed soon after.
"Alright, kid." I said, turning to face my son. "Looks like it'll just be you and me."
Noah yawned and rested his head on my chest. I grabbed his car seat and walked to the airport parking lot. I buckled him into his seat, started the car, and drove home. Once we arrived home, I took Noah inside. I climbed upstairs and into the nursery.
"Do you feel like playing?" I asked.
I sat Noah down on the floor and I sat across from him. I watched as his chubby hands reached for the toys in front of him.
"Noah, toys aren't food." I said before he could raise the toy to his mouth. "Don't eat them."
I sighed, "I hope your mother's having a nice flight."
I scooted behind my son and watched as he tried to fit the toy blocks into a box. I smiled as the sounds of Noah's laughter filled the room. I missed Elsa, despite the fact it had only been a few hours since I had last seen her. Hopefully, Wesselton knew his place.
"I'm hungry." I sighed as I stood. "Noah, do you want to have lunch?"
I chuckled as I saw he was still nibbling on his toy blocks. I knelt down and picked up my son.
I took the block and dropped it on the ground, "How about something less, I don't know, plastic-y?"
Later that night, Noah and I sat in bed awaiting Elsa's call.
"I'm sure she'll call any minute now."
I scooted closer to my son and watched as he reached for all the toys I had sprawled on the bed.
"Noah, who's gonna call?" I asked, hoping to get some sort of babble or word out of him.
"M…" He muttered.
"Mommy?" I encouraged.
"Ma."
"Mama works too." I shrugged.
Suddenly, the room filled with the sound of my cellphone's ringtone.
"That's probably her, now." I said as I lifted the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey." She murmured. "You sound tired."
"It's almost midnight, but I didn't want to miss your call." I smirked. "How was your flight?"
"It was long, but it was fine." She sighed, "The time zones are different, and so I'm exhausted."
"What are you doing now?"
"We got to the hotel a while ago, actually." She said, "For now, I'm resting up so I can go to work in a few hours."
"Then, I should let you have your rest." I said.
"No, wait." She pleaded. "I've missed you and Noah."
"We've missed you, too." I assured, "Noah's right here, want to say hi?"
"Sure, just one second." She said, "I want to switch to video call, I want to see him."
"As you wish."
We switched to video call and Elsa's face appeared on the screen. She looked gorgeous, as always. Her pale blonde hair was tied in a messy braid with pieces falling out in tendrils.
"Hello?" She called, "Noah?"
I placed Noah in my lap and held the phone in front of us so she could see. Noah's face was lit up by the bright screen as he saw his mother.
"Hi, baby boy!" Elsa giggled, waving to our son.
"Can you say hi to mommy?" I asked Noah and raised his hand to wave at Elsa.
"Shouldn't he be sleeping?" She questioned.
"Well, yes." I admitted. "But I wanted you to see him before you went to work."
She smiled, "Thank you, but he'll be cranky tomorrow if you don't put him to bed."
"Alright, then." I said.
I stood and grabbed my son and held him in my arms.
"I'll go put him to bed." I said, "Do you want me to call you back or do we just leave it on like this."
"Leave it on." She yawned, "I'll be here when you come back."
I set the phone down on the bedside table and took Noah to his nursery. I laid him in his crib and watched as he looked up at me with tired eyes. He yawned and at last, closed his eyes. I was thankful that Noah wasn't fussy. I would be having a hell of a lot harder time without Elsa here if he was, but thankfully, he takes after his mother.
"Goodnight, kid." I whispered as I turned off the lights and went back to our bedroom. I yawned and rubbed my eyes. I picked up my phone and saw Elsa leaning her head against a pillow in a peaceful sleep.
I chuckled, "Wasn't I the one who was supposed to fall asleep first."
Her eyes opened slightly and then she started laughing.
"Right, sorry." She giggled.
"I'll leave you now." I whispered, "Goodnight, Elsa. Or, good morning, I guess."
"Bye, Jack." She mumbled, "I love you."
"I love you, too, Snowflake." I whispered before I ended the video call.
i keep adding indents in my paragraphs but for some reason they disappear when i publish them... anyone know why? i was finally fed up and did like 14 spaces so they could equal an indent, lmao.
i hate myself :)
but i'm seriously so disappointed in myself because i had planned to update at least five times over the summer and i only updated three times counting this chapter. sorry.
but with school coming up i'm not sure i can update as often as i would like. so i'm pretty sure this story is going to drag into 2017... sigh. if i'm pretty honest i don't even enjoy writing this story as much as i did. or writing in general, honestly. it all feels like a chore now. like, i don't write for myself anymore, i'm writing to keep you all pleased. i don't know, maybe after this story ends it'll be the end for my writing...
sorry for the short rant. don't worry, i'll finish the story.
love,
~Amy.
