Chp 37

Emrys returned to the house again at night and this time, he found Eric at the steps. Emrys sighed and slowly approached him.

"So, you've been here", said Emrys.

"So do you, the piano's gone", said Eric.

"I couldn't just leave it there. I could play it from time to time", said Emrys and he proceeded to sit next to Eric on the steps. They sit there quietly for a few minutes. Emrys noticed the sapphire ring, twiddled between Eric's fingers.

"You ever thought of…, finding love after mum?", asked Emrys.

Eric stared into the stone and sighed. "Your mother…, was probably the only woman who could tolerate me", said Eric.

"Besides Pam?", Emrys added and Eric chuckled.

"She saw me, not just a vampire or a Viking. She loved me for what I am, despite that I wasn't a good husband to her", said Eric.

"To her, you're the best", said Emrys.

"If she knew, she'd murder me", said Eric.

"Nah…, she'd maul you, but then she still loved you", said Emrys. Eric remembered the day Emrys was born.

(flashback)

Eric arrived at Dallas and as he was about to go inside Elsa's room, Stan stopped him. Eric wanted to bypass him, but Stan wouldn't have it.

"It's bloody in there, sheriff", said Stan.

"But it's my wife, now move!", said Eric. He went into the room anyway. There she was, in bed and in pain. Elisabeth tried her best to ease the pain using magic while Godric held her hand.

"Eric…", Elsa saw him and reached out to Eric with her other hand. Eric grasped her hand and kissed it.

"My child, you must push", said Godric.

"I can't", said Elsa, crying in pain.

Eric kissed her sweaty forehead and gripped her hand tight to assure her. "You can do it, my love. You have to push", he said.

"Elsa, you have to, the baby won't last long in there", said Elisabeth.

Elsa used all her might to push the baby out. Eric prayed for the baby's safety and a few minutes later, Elisabeth grabbed the blanket and Eric saw a bundle in Elisabeth's arms with a tuft of dirty blonde hair.

"He's here, he's ok!", said Elisabeth. She left the bed to clean the baby up before passing it to Eric. Elisabeth grabbed the dirty sheets and set aside before she pulled Godric outside so the family could have some time.

Eric held the baby in his arms, afraid he might accidentally crush his own child. The baby cried and Eric kissed his head.

"Shhh…, it's ok", he tried to soothe the baby.

"Give him to me", said Elsa, sounded very weak. Gently, Eric laid the baby in her arms. Elsa pushed her strap downwards and began to feed the baby.

"He looks like you", said Eric.

"Are you happy?", she asked, trying to steady her breath.

"More than anything, my love", said Eric.

"I'm so tired", Elsa began to feel drowsy as she finished feeding the baby.

"Any thoughts on the name?", he asked as he took the baby from her.

"Emrys sounds nice", she said. No doubt it's a tribute to Elisabeth's ancestor.

"I like that", said Eric, kissing the baby. He kissed her and pulled the blankets up. "Sleep, I'll watch over him", he said. Elsa immediately lulled her head into the pillow and slept.

Eric slowly got up and walked outside. He passed his son over to Godric and Elisabeth first. Godric looked at his grandson with awe and love. Godric passed to Elisabeth and she brought the baby over to Stan and Isabel.

"He looks like Elsa", said Stan.

"He's beautiful nonetheless", said Isabel.

"Have you settle on a name?", asked Godric and everyone turned to Eric.

"We have", said Eric with a smile. "Emrys Godric Northman", Eric announced.

"You don't have to name him after me", said Godric.

"She might disagree with you on that", said Eric, referring to Elsa.

(Present)

"I remember Pam's face the first time she saw you", Eric chuckled.

"Do we have to go back to that time?", asked Emrys.

"Well, I thought you're too skinny", Emrys was surprised to find Pam by the front door, flipping through an album.

"I was cute, you just won't admit it and I'm still cute", said Emrys. Pam raised her eyebrow.

"I wouldn't use that word, sugar", said Pam.

"Pam, just admit it. No one is here", Emrys was being his cheeky self. For once, Eric smiled at the two of them.
