Chapter Thirty-Eight: Seen (Part 1)

Minutes later, Marco and Candy were out in the forest, heading toward the cabin. Dipper had assigned the two of them to clean in out. He told them to toss anything that wasn't useful.

Since it was dark and starting to rain, Macro and Candy used flashlights from the yacht to make their way toward the cabin. Once the two of them got there, they went right to work.

They left the front door open to make the job easier.

Candy went into the kitchen while Marco began to clear out the living room.

Not long after he started cleaning, Marco found something in the bookshelf that made him gasp.

He grabbed it and ran into the kitchen. "Candy, you know how Dipper said to throw out anything that isn't useful?" he asked.

"Yeah, what about it?" said Candy as she dumped empty bottles and cans into a trash bag.

"Well, despite that, I want to keep this limited edition Green Arrow comic book I found in the other room," Marco said.

Candy shook her head. "We're not gonna keep it. It's dead weight."

"No it's not!" Marco argued. "What part of limited edition do you not understand?"

Candy rolled her eyes as she tied up the garbage bag. "Why does it even matter?"

"The Green Arrow is my favorite hero," Marco replied.

"But he's not real," Candy said.

"I know," Marco said. "But he's the one who inspired me to pursue the art of archery."

Candy shook her head. "I'm sorry, but we don't need that comic book. Can you make yourself useful and take this garbage bag outside?"

Marco angrily put the comic book on the counter, took the bag from Candy, and walked outside.

"Stupid Candy," he grumbled to himself as he walked fifteen feet from the cabin. That was the distance they'd agreed on to place all the unneeded junk from the cabin.

He put down the garbage bag and looked around. The intensity of the rain was slowly increasing. Even the wind speeds were beginning to pick up.

As Marco looked around, he saw a light in the trees. Wait, forests didn't have artificial light.

Marco bolted into the cabin, grabbed the bow and arrow he'd brought, and ran back outside.

He notched the arrow in the bow and pulled back, aiming for the light.

A few seconds later, the source of the light walked into full view of Marco. It was one of Bossman's guards.

The guard jumped when he saw Marco. "Hey! You're not supposed to be here! Where are the other guards?"

"Don't move!" Marco growled as he pulled the bow back a little farther. "Place any weapons you have on the ground.

The guard scowled. "I don't think so!" he turned and ran away.

Marco fired the arrow, but missed the guard by about half a foot.

"Arrgh!" Marco said a string of curse words as he stormed back inside the cabin and went into the kitchen.

Candy glared at Marco as he entered. "I do not approve of that language!"

"There's no time for that!" Marco said. "One of Bossman's men saw me when I was taking out the trash."

"That's just great," Candy said. "We have to get back to Dipper now."

Candy and Marco left the cabin and ran through the forest back to the beach.

Dipper frowned when he saw the two of them. "Did you two finish that quickly?"

"No, Marco was seen by one of Bossman's guards," Candy answered.

Dipper bit his lip. "That's really bad! We can't go back to the cabin. That'll probably be the first place Bossman'll send his men!"

"What do we do?" Candy asked. "We need to take action against Bossman now, or we'll lose this opportunity to get off the island!"

Dipper thought for a moment. "Stand by as I create a backup plan. Give me five minutes."

Candy shrugged. "Alright."

"Wait!" Marco said. "There was a Green Arrow comic book back at the cabin. I'm gonna go run and get it real quickly."

"Marco, no!" Dipper said. "That's too risky."

"Oh, come on," Marco said. "It'll be quick! Heck, if it'll make you feel better I can take someone with me."

"No!" Dipper snapped. "Stay on this beach! That's an order!"

He and Candy walked off.

Marco scowled and began to pace.

Not much later, Miranda approached him in the middle of his pacing.

"Hey, is something wrong?" Miranda asked.

Marco hesitated before responding. "Not anymore." He turned and bolted into the forest.

Back in Gravity Falls, Kiara Zerep got in her car after a long day of work. She was mainly worried because Preston hadn't taken the bait yet. The fake knife was still at her house, which prevented her from prosecuting Preston.

Kiara was afraid that soon, Sheriff Blubbs would tell her to drop the investigation.

Kiara sighed as she turned on her car and began to drive home. Surely, something would change. There was no way Preston was going to escape justice, right?

Marco ran at top speed and arrived at the cabin within a couple of minutes.

"I told them I'd be quick," Marco said as he walked through the front entrance of the cabin and slammed the door shut. "But they didn't believe me."

Everything was just the same as he and Candy had left it, which meant no one else had made it to the cabin yet.

Marco walked into the kitchen and grinned to himself as he picked up the Green Arrow comic book. He also began to wonder why these comic books were in the cabin to begin with. Maybe that Latin traveler was a DC fan. Or maybe that traveler wasn't the only person to have used this cabin.

"I wonder if there are more comic books," Marco said to himself. He walked into the living room and looked at the bookshelf.

Suddenly, the cabin's front door swung open and six guards marched in.

"See, that's the boy I saw!" one of the guards said.

Marco dropped the comic book and reached for his bow and arrow.

"He's reaching for his weapons!" the same guard shouted.

Two guards rushed over and grabbed Marco's arms. A third took his bow and arrow and threw it outside.

The lead guard looked at the remaining two. "Search the cabin to see if anyone else is here!"

The two guards left the room and returned a minute later. "All empty, sir," they both said.

The lead guard glared at Marco. "What were you doing here, son?"

"None of your business," Marco seethed. "And I am not you son!"

"So that's how you wanna play," the lead guard said. He looked at the two holding Marco. "Subdue the boy. I honestly don't care why he was here."

Marco was thrown against the bookshelf, bounced off it, and landed on his back on the floor. The two guards moved out of the way as the bookshelf fell on top of Marco.

"OW!" The pain Marco was feeling at that moment was greater than anything he'd ever experienced.

"What should we do with him?" one of the other guards asked.

"Leave him here," the lead guard replied. "He's clearly not going anywhere."

That statement was true. The bookshelf was too heavy for Marco to push off of himself.

"What if his friends come looking for him?" another guard asked.

"Then we leave a little surprise for them." The lead guard pulled out a sticky bomb, entered a time, and set it on the floor near Marco. "Enjoy your last five minutes on Earth."

The time on the bomb began to countdown.

Marco began to panic. "No! Please don't leave me here! I'll do anything!"

All six guards laughed and left.

"Help!" Marco screamed. "HELP!"
