Nintendo has the rights. =P Honestly speaking, all I have is the idea for the story, few monsters, creatures and bit of changing the places. Oh, and couple of OCs here and there. ^^; I'm certain everyone can figure out which belongs to me and which doesn't. =)

DARK LINK'S QUEST

CHAPTER 35: The Sage of Water and Ancient Dragon

Queen Ruto of the Zoras stood up on the pillar. She opened her blue eyes and looked at the two Hylians while crossing her arms over her chest. "Link! Thank you for saving me." The Sage of Water started with a wide smile and fully ignoring the ex-shadow next to the Hero.

Link chuckled bit nervously and scratched the back of his head. "Actually, Ruto, it was Dark who saved you." He said sheepishly and took a step away from the darker Hylian right after giving him a slight push forward. The ex-shadow gasped a bit at the forced movement but very quickly fell to one knee, raised his right hand to his chest and bowed his head.

"Your Highness." Dark started as honorably as he could. "I am grateful that You are safe and—" He continued but Ruto stopped him very sharply.

"SILENCE!" She screamed in near anger and glared at the dark Hylian. The command startled both Link and Dark but only the Hero stared at the queen with wide-eyes. "You liar. You let me be in danger with that monster Morpha. You knew and did nothing to help!" The Zora royalty sheathed in rage.

"W-what...? Ruto! You can't be serious!" Link shouted and ran straight between the ex-shadow and the queen. "Dark has been of great assistance in here and he is no threat at all!" The Hero exclaimed harshly while staring at Ruto.

The queen's expression darkened even more, yet before she could've said a word, Dark took part into the conversation. "Your Highness, I did not know of Your presence in the Temple. I was locked into that one room and I could not get out of there. Had I known of Your situation, I would have done something for Your help. As a Sage, You have to admit that what I speak is the truth. I would never lie to a Queen let alone to a Sage." He stated as calmly as he could.

Link was bit startled of the fact that the dark Hylian took part into the conversation but he smiled a bit about the very fact of him backing himself up. Ruto stayed silent for a long while and just stared at the two Hylians since the Hero had moved a bit to the side and so allowed her to see both of them again. Nonetheless, Link was ready to step back between if need be.

Eventually Ruto snorted, turned her gaze off of Dark and concentrated fully into Link. "Nonetheless, that does not matter." She stated harshly, smiled at the Hero and extended her hand. "It might be best if we left this room now. Come, Link. Let us leave this cursed Temple behind." The Sage said much gentler.

Link was bit startled but shook his head. "I'm not leaving Dark. We came here together so we also leave together." He replied firmly. The Sage of Water growled and glared at the still kneeling dark Hylian. The Hero sighed sorrowfully. "And there is something we need to talk with you, Ruto..." He nearly whispered.

That sentence got her to turn her gaze back into Link. "Alright. Talk." The Zora Queen nearly commanded, crossed her arms over her chest again and just stared at the Hero. Link dropped his gaze into the floor and closed his eyes. He really wished to talk about this at some other time and in different place. "Just spit it out already!" Ruto nearly screamed. She had never been too patient not to mention she still wished to marry the Hero but deep inside she knew it would never happen.

Link gulped and stayed silent for a long while. He glanced at the ex-shadow who had only slightly slumped but besides that, hadn't moved even one inch. "King Zora... Your father..." The Hero finally started before trailing off and raising his fully sorrowful gaze up. "He's..." Link gulped again before closing his eyes and hanging his head as his ears drooped fully. "He's dead..." He finally whispered.

Ruto stared at Link for a long while with her mouth slightly open. "No..." She whispered in pure shock. "Y-you're lying." The Sage continued but very soon her expression darkened and her hard gaze fell into Dark. "MURDERER!" The queen of Zoras screamed, waved her hand and brought a huge wave of water up from the area next to her. The water hit very harshly into the dark Hylian and send him against the wall next to the second door.

"NO! Stop it!" The Hero screamed and shot between Dark and Ruto before she could send another wave at him. "Dark did NOT kill your father, Ruto! He tried to SAVE him!" Link shouted while spreading his arms to stay fully on the way.

Dark had gotten to all four while coughing slightly. He was fully freaked out but he didn't dare to move. The dark Hylian fully prayed that the Sage wouldn't harm Link as she wanted her hands on him and not the Hero.

"And how the hell do you know that?" Ruto nearly sneered as she raised another wave. "Get off my way so I can kill him." She growled while glaring at the ex-shadow.

"Because I was there. I saw it, Ruto. Everything happened too fast. Dark stood between the enemy and the King. That goddesses damn monster went straight through Dark and attacked your father." The Hero explained as calmly as he could.

"And what the hell did you do?" The female Zora inquired while very slightly calming down. Link gulped and dropped his gaze down while slightly slumping.

"I... I was too far. Didn't have a chance to do anything before it was already over." The Hero replied miserably. Ruto stared at him with wide-eyes.

"Y-you... You did nothing?!" She screamed in full disbelieve. Link just simply nodded without daring to raise his gaze into her. The Sage of Water stayed silent and let her hand fall next to her. The water splashed back into its rightful place as the control was broken. "May I?" Ruto asked very calmly as she walked to the pathway around the room. As a Zora and Sage of Water, walking on water was small thing for her to do, even in her weakened state.

The Hero was bit confused but he nodded. Ruto took once a deep breath before placing her hand over Link's forehead. They both closed their eyes and the Hero let her fully into his memories. The Sage searched for a while before she came forth with the needed scene. She frowned slightly but very soon gasped as the shadowy Hylian had murdered her father. What she didn't want to witness was how shocked and heart-broken the ex-shadow had become from witnessing such situation.

"Do you believe me now, Your Highness?" Link asked surprisingly calmly as she backed away by a step and let her hand fall. Ruto only nodded but stayed silent. Her gaze fell into the dark Hylian behind the Hero. Dark flinched and dropped his gaze into the floor on the second she looked at him.

Ruto sighed heavily but finally nodded. "Fine. But I can only take one out of here." She stated bit harshly. "And you can stop covering in the corner!" The Sage barked bit cruelly and smirked slightly as Dark flinched at the partly stated command. He took once a deep breath and stood up.

"I... I'll just leave the different way, then..." The dark Hylian half mumbled before already slowly moving towards the closest door. Before Ruto or Link could say that the door's the wrong one, Dark had already gone through it and closed the door.

On the second he entered the new room, he knew one simple thing. "I chose the wrong door..." The ex-shadow mumbled and gulped as he stared at the huge dragon at the wall in front of him. The dragon was fully frozen into the wall. It's scales were icy blue. The room itself had one water area that was right underneath the dragon while leaving dry pathway only to three sides of the room. Once Dark had stepped into the room, the oversized lizard opened its eyes instantly. The black and sinister eyes turned straight into the dark Hylian and the dragon grinned devilishly at what it saw.

"NO!" Ruto screamed and dashed to the door. "This can't be happening! The creature has been imprisoned into here for centuries! It CANNOT be woken up!" She thought in near terror as she opened the door and went inside. Link followed her fully startled but feeling more worried for Dark's sake since he had no knowledge of what was in the room.

As the two others came into the room, the creature's grin widened into full smirk and it said one thing in full glee with hissing speech. "Oh, how I have waited for this day." The dragon started to try and move while cracking the ice around it. The overgrown lizard got its head fully off the ice and moving while its front legs were still frozen.

Ruto stared at the monster in pure shock. "No..." She whispered and shook her head. "The imprisoned creature has been set free." The Sage continued quietly without realizing that both Link and Dark were staring at her.

The dark Hylian gasped a bit as he remembered the last Shadowy Writing he had seen in the Temple. "Enemy from the past. Known in the stories. Will you lose the Light?" He thought in shock and turned his gaze back into the dragon. Dark drew out his sword and shield while having full determined look on his face. "No. I will NOT lose the Light." He thought and turned his gaze into Link. "Shall we fight this lizard, Link?" The ex-shadow called with a slight grin.

The Hero nodded and drew out his own sword and shield. "Certainly. We've gotten this far so one stupid dragon won't stop us." He replied with a slight grin before turning towards the enemy. "Besides, it should be easy considering how little it can fight back." Link concluded with a slight shrug.

"So, how do we fight with it?" Dark inquired while staring at the creature that still tried to get freed from the ice. The ice was starting to break but it would take a long while before the dragon would be fully free or able to use its huge front legs. The overgrown lizard kept its gaze in the trio but stayed silent.

Link watched the dragon for a while before he put his sword and shield off and took out his bow and arrows. "This might be a good try." He suggested while already taking aim. The darker Hylian nodded and watched. The Hero let the projectile fly but the creature blocked the strike by one of its horns.

"Good try but not good enough." It hissed cruelly before closing its eyes and calling out one of its attacks. "Dodge this!" The dragon shouted and sent out ball of ice. The two Hylians had no trouble at all to avoid the attack. The round ice block hit into the blue floor and smashed into pieces.

Ruto shrieked a bit but she was very swift to move away from the fight. Link grinned and looked at Dark before nodding towards the dragon. The ex-shadow frowned for a short while before he started to grin and nodded. He put his sword and shield off while going for bow and arrows too. The duo took aim at the creature but let the arrows fly at slightly different time.

The dragon blocked the first arrow again but the second one was just barely avoided. "Sneaky." The creature stated before sending another attack, this time with a wave of fire. Both Link and Dark dived towards the Sage of Water and shielded her by their Hylian Shields. Once the attack was over, they glanced at the Zora and realized that she had brought out a strong water bubble around her for protection.

"I would be grateful if her grace would actually take part into this fight." The Hero said with a slight grin. "Your water attacks might come handy in here." He continued and nodded towards the darker Hylian before mouthing to Ruto: "Ice."

The Zora royalty was slightly calming down from the unexpected attack and lowered down her protection. She frowned at Link but soon realized what he was meaning. "Does he mean that he can actually use ice-magic? If so, it might give us what we need." The Sage thought before nodding. "Let's finish this lizard." Ruto said sternly while nearly glaring at the dragon.

The Sage took a step forward to stand between the two Hylians. The dragon glared at them but before it could've brought out an attack, Ruto already brought out a column of water. The creature was bit startled as the water rose from the small square basin ring underneath it. Yet, before the Zora could continue her work and let Dark freeze it, the overgrown lizard went for an attack of its own.

The beast shot a quick ice magic and froze the column as it had gotten to eye-level with it. All three attackers gasped a bit but the dragon wasn't ready. It shot another ice attack which broke into smaller pieces as it hit into the ice pillar. The ice shards bounced off of the pillar and towards the wall where the creature was bound into. Right before the pieces would've hit the wall, the dragon used another magic and melted the ice into fire.

The fire melted some of the ice on the wall and gave more freedom to the beast's right arm and paw. The dragon grinned maliciously as it swung its enormous and free limb. "Well, well, well... Thank you for freeing me." It hissed and grinned cruelly while turning its gaze into the trio. After that the creature slammed its sharp claws through the ice pillar and shattered it. "Now, since I can see you again... We can have bit more of fun." The dragon continued before it breathed fire straight into the frozen water basin.

The trio was bit confused as the beast let the water go back to its place. While the monster was refilling the basin, the Hero shot an arrow towards the dragon but the creature brought its huge paw in front of the attack while creating a magical shield. "You're not getting hit in." The lizard stated and chuckled a bit while turning its gaze into the fighters.

Suddenly there came a vortex into middle of the water. It let a round patch of the floor show which surprisingly wasn't blue like everything else in the Temple. The floor was black with green weeds in there. Suddenly something jumped high from there before the vortex slowed down and eventually the water was back to its rightful place.

The small thing that had come up from the floor was flying right in front of the dragon's face. It looked like a black ball with wings before it started to unravel itself. Very soon the thing had the look of a fairy. She opened her eyes which were dark violet.

The black fairy flew backwards and landed to the dragon's snout. She crouched down to one knee and stared at the two Hylians and one Zora. "Are these the guardians?" She inquired with fully foreign language. It wasn't Hylian nor was it the hissing sound of Shadowy either. The voice of the black fairy sounded like it didn't even fit for such fragile creature. It was harsh and low, almost like growling.

Ruto stared in pure horror at the fairy. "This... This can't be happening..." She whispered with wide-eyes. Link glanced from the black fairy into the Sage and back.

"What's wrong? Who or what is she?" The Hero inquired while feeling bit confused but more of threatened. There was something fully evil about this new being. Soon Link's gaze fell back into the black fairy with a slight frown on his face.

"It's the monster the Shadows imprisoned into here centuries ago." Ruto finally replied. Both of the two Hylians were fully surprised about the given answer.

"I thought the dragon was the demon!" The Hero half shouted while taking a step backwards. The Sage of Water only shook her head. Dark growled a bit and shot and arrow towards the black fairy

The small winged female sighed, shook her head and gave a very faint wave of her hand. The arrow never got even halfway through the road before it exploded. The dark Hylian gasped in shock and took a step backwards. "W-what?! H-how's that possible?!" He inquired in pure bewilderment.

The black fairy gave a mock yawn and shook her head. "I could kill you three just like that but it wouldn't be so much of fun." She stated and shrugged. Even with the language being unknown to anyone else than Ruto, the words were still understood by the two Hylians. Dark's guess was within the Shadowy Powers while Link's was in the Goddesses. Yet, neither was the right answer. The truth was that the black fairy let them understand her. "Now... How about bit of fun, huh?" The small demon inquired, grinned and stood up.

She jumped to her wings and started to move backwards. The icy blue dragon closed its eyes and bowed its head. The black fairy hit back first into the overgrown lizard's forehead. There came a bright flash of black light and after that the dragon had a black crystal where the fairy had hit into. From the crystal left four long black lines from the corners of the crystal. The horizontal ones rounded halfway around the head. The upper line ended right after the getting to the back of the dragon's head. The last one, going downwards, went all the way to the peak of the beast's snout.

After that the dragon raised its head and opened its black eyes again but there was a slight difference. The eyes were gleaming with dark purple color and it was clear that the overgrown lizard wasn't the one in charge of the body. The creature opened its mouth and gave a loud roar. Suddenly a black tentacle shot up from the depths of the water basin. The dragon's gaze was in the trio as the tentacle swayed from side to side and took slowly more and more of speed into its movement. "Avoid this!" The monster screamed and send the tentacle in wide horizontal arc towards the trio.

Dark had no trouble of jumping over the black and thick thing. "Ruto, look out!" Link shouted and that got the dark Hylian to turn to check how the duo would avoid the tentacle. The Hero pushed the Sage off of the attack's way even though she had created her protective bubble. The black tentacle rounded around Link since he didn't have a chance to avoid it anymore. Right after that the creation pulled the Hero off of the ground into midair and gave a quick squeeze which got Link to scream out in pain. The squeeze was very swift and once it had been done, the tentacle threw the Hero harshly into the floor before Dark or Ruto had any of chances to do a thing to help Link.

"LINK!" Dark screamed and ran to the fallen Hero. In a quick glance it was clear that the monster had stabbed Link with small spikes. "Don't move..." The dark Hylian whispered as the Hero tried to get up. "Shit... This can't be happening..." The ex-shadow thought as he noticed the blood. It didn't look normal. Dark closed his eyes and hang his head. The last three lines of the Shadowy writing came into his mind and the dark Hylian grit his teeth and shook his head. "NO! I will NOT lose him." He stated to himself and opened his eyes with full determination.

Ruto stared in shock but soon started to run towards the two Hylians. Suddenly a wall of fire rose right in front of her. "Do NOT come here." Dark stated nearly angrily as he looked at the Zora. He had brought the obstacle forth and very swiftly let it round all around the Sage. "There is nothing you can do." The dark Hylian continued while adding few more walls around the leader of aquatic race. The next from the fire was water and third line, the outmost, was electricity.

Once the ex-shadow had secured Ruto's life, he turned back to the Hero. He brought similar protection around them to keep the demonic dragon from attacking them. "Kill him." The creature whispered. "You know you don't have a choice." It continued with a sadistic grin.

Dark gulped once before drawing out his sword. "Link..." He whispered sorrowfully and glanced at the Hero. Link was in near agony and gasping for air.

"W-what's g-going on?" The Hero half whispered in slight panic. His worry rose as the dark Hylian bowed his head again and few tears fell down. "D-Dark?" Link called while getting weaker.

"Link... I'm sorry..." Dark whispered and took a grip of the Hero's hand before already starting to take the gauntlet off. Link stared at him in confusion but not being able to move at all.

"W-what? W-why?" He inquired and got even more puzzled as the dark Hylian took the gauntlet off before already going for the second one. "D-Dark? W-what's g-going on? P-please... T-tell me..." Link whispered since it was starting to be hard to talk.

Dark didn't answer as he stood up. "Kill him... Kill him... Kill him..." The dragon started to chant while staring at the ex-shadow and ignoring everything else. Ruto stared in full confusion and fear at the scene. The dark Hylian gulped before raising his sword.

"I'm sorry, Link..." Dark whispered again. He did not want to do what the demon was telling to him.

"W-what are y-you s-sorry for...?" Link inquired while starting to get fearful of the situation. Unlike the dark Hylian and the Sage, the Hero had not heard the dragon's words. The demon kept Link fully out of knowing what was being said in the demonic language.

"For this..." Dark replied and struck the sword down. Link screamed as the blade cut his wrist open. Very soon he screamed again as the same was done to his other wrist.

"LINK!" Ruto screamed in horror but couldn't get anywhere near the scene. "YOU MURDERER!" She shouted as she tried to find a way through the barriers around her. "I'll kill you... I'll drown you so many times that you wouldn't believe it to be possible..." The Sage threatened in fury and took the pleasure as the ex-shadow shivered at the threat.

"W-why...? D-Dark...?" The Hero inquired with wide-eyes and thoroughly disbelieving look on his face. Dark didn't answer. He only took Link's sword and soaked the blade of the weapon in the Hero's own blood.

A/N: Sorry for the shorter chapter once again. T.T Oh, and another part of given snippets is in here! Can you find it? Also, the way the dragon is in the wall is same as what the dragon Mizuchi was in Okamiden before fighting with Orochi. It is also where Shiranui was found from in the game.
