"Are you okay? And please be truthful," Beatrix asked Adriana. She had brougt her some hot chocolate over dinner. Adriana had made herself so upset that she felt like she was going to pass out. Jon made her lie down and brought her food to Gus' room so that she could finish it.
"I'm doing okay," Adriana said. She was sitting up with her back against two pillows.
Beatrix sat beside her cousin after handing her the cup of hot chocolate and rubbed her stomach.
"Only two more months. Just hang in there," Beatrix said.
"I'm trying to," Adriana said. "I'm sorry for flipping out at the dinner table."
"It's fine," Beatrix said. "Gus understands. He's talking to Jon right now."
"I know Jon is still mad at me."
"No. He's worried about you."
"I'm worried about him, too."
"You two will get through this. I know you guys can. How long have you two been together?"
"Twenty four years."
"That's a long time. You guys will be just fine."
"Let's hope."
"Are you and Mommy mad at each other?" Jasmine asked Jon as he tucked her and Maddy into bed.
"Are you and Mommy going to leave each other?" Maddy asked.
"No. I know me and your mother argue sometimes but we're not going to leave each other. And we're not mad at each other. Remember that."
Jon gave Maddy a kiss on her cheek and gave her a hug and did the same with Jasmine. Jasmine didn't want to let go. If was as if Jon was going to be going away forever instead of staying like he said he was.
"Look, you can't start worrying," Jon said.
"When I go off to school who will look after Tia? Cookie!? OUR HAMSTER!?" Jasmine said.
"We will have it all figured out. Trust me."
Jon finally got Maddy and Jasmine to fall asleep. He turned on their nightlight then left their room.
"I need a drink," Jon whispered to himself.
He made his way to the kitchen and grabbed himself a cold beer out of the fridge. As soon as he closed the door, J.J. appeared right in front of him.
"Dad, are you and Mom mad at each other?"
"No. We're not. We may have disagreements but we're not mad at each other. And we're not splitting up."
"Good. Um...I want to talk to you about sex. I want to know because me and Panda...we...we haven't done anything. I just want to know about sex. What to do and what not to do."
Jon wasn't the least bit surprised by this.
"Sure thing. Grab a seat and a beer."
"Beer!?"
"Mmhmm."
1998:
"Hey! HELLO!" Gus yelled to Jon.
"Huh!? What?"
"Grab some cookies!"
"Fine."
Jon grabbed a handful of Chip Ahoy cookies and started munching on them.
"What were you thinking about?" Gus said.
"Nothing."
"I will push you off of this swing set if you do not tell me!"
"Go ahead and see what happens."
"Stop beating around the bush! I know that there's something that you want to say."
Jon heaved a sigh and looked at his cousin.
"It's about sex."
"What do you want to know about it?"
"If it hurts or not. When me and Adriana get older...we'll start having sex...I don't want to hurt her. We've made out and stuff. But that's it."
"Awww. My cousin is in love."
"Oh hush."
"You and Adriana will get married and have a kid who eats just like you. Maybe a few."
"Maybe."
Gwen opened the front door and poked her head out.
"Alrighty, it's dinner time. Wait, why are you two eating cookies? You can eat them after you get finished with dinner!"
"Okay, Mom!" Jon said. "It was Gus' fault!"
"Shut up!"
Gwen just chuckled.
"Get inside and eat. We're all hungry!"
Present:
"For some, sex hurts. For others, it feels good."
"Did it hurt when you and Mom first did it?"
"Nope. I was always afraid of hurting her but I didn't. Even though she's pregnant now, we still have sex."
"Yeah...about that...how're you able to have sex when Mom has Tia inside of her?"
"Easy. We just do it. The baby is fine."
"Oh. So you and Mom always had sex even when she was pregnant with me, Aiden, Maddy, and Jasmine?"
"Mmhmm."
"Interesting! I asked about sex because I want to get an idea of what to expect. Of course, I don't want to have sex now. I'm not ready. Neither is Panda."
"That's the same thing I told your mother when we were younger. I had her pinned up against the wall at school though..."
"Oh really now? Hehehe..."
J.J. finished his beer and stared at the bottle.
"Budweiser. That's enough for the night. How many did I have?"
"Only two son. Don't tell your mother."
Adriana had woke up the next morning to make breakfast. She made sure that she cooked Jon's favorite, chocolate chip waffles, so that he would stay at home rather than go on his usual jogs.
"Jon, I made you breakfast. You're going to eat it first before you go any damn where."
"No need to be hostile about it!" Jon said.
The kids were all at the table and enjoying their meal. Jasmine was extremely happy that Adriana had cooked fried potatoes just for her.
"Want some potatoes? They're very good!" Jasmine said.
"No thank you, buttercup," Jon said.
"Daddy, do you have to go to work today?" Michael asked.
"Yes, I do."
Michael smacked his lips and kept eating.
"Don't smack your lips at me! It's beyond my control!"
"I'm only messin' with ya!" Michael said.
"How long are you going to be working tonight?" Adriana said as she put a nice hot waffle on Jon's plate.
"Six hours. I'll be back before five," Jon said.
"Tia doesn't want you to go. She's kicking me. AHH!" Adriana said.
Jon shot straight up out of his seat and helped Adriana to the couch.
"I am going to whoop Tia Maxine Nicole Good's ass when she comes out of me," Adriana said.
"No need for that!" Jon said.
"I don't want you to leave me today," Adriana said.
"My mom and Steve are coming to get the children for the weekend. Maybe you should spend time with them for the day."
"No! I want you to stay here with me!"
"Adriana, I need to go to work!"
Adriana kicked Jon in his leg.
"NO! STAY HERE!"
"Calm down!"
Jon helped Adriana up and helped her to the bedroom. She was hitting Jon, which in turn was starting to irritate him. He didn't want to get mad and hurt Adriana.
"You're not leaving me!" Adriana said as Jon tried to take off her sweatpants. Sweatpants were really the only thing Adriana wore.
"I can't walk out the door with my tank top on and my shorts," Jon said. "And with you acting like this, I won't be able to get dressed for work."
"I'm sorry. I'm such a fuck up..."
"No you're not."
Adriana got situated in the bed and within minutes, fell asleep. Poor thing was still tired. Jon didn't want to leave Adriana alone by herself so he called Linda and made sure that someone was going to look after Adriana. Steve volunteered with no problem.
Jon left the room and made sure the kids finished eating and got them ready for the day. He had to reassure them and tell them that their mother was tired and needed rest. All of the children came in their parents' room and kissed their mother and told her that they would be seeing her soon. They also said bye to Tia before leaving to greet Linda who came by to pick up her grandchildren. She told Jon that Steve would be by an hour later. After the children left, Jon got ready for work.
Before he left, he kissed Adriana on her lips and told her that he would be back soon. Of course she couldn't hear him because she was asleep, but this didn't stop Jon from saying what he had to say.
"I love you. I love you very much," Jon said. "Remember that." Jon gave Tia a kiss and headed towards the door.
He looked back at Adriana sleeping once more. Her hair was pulled in a ponytail, which revealed her face. Adriana seemed at peace while sleeping. Jon preferred her to be relaxed and peaceful versus angry, upset, and ready to turn into The Incredible Hulk.
"I love you guys," Jon said one more time before leaving the room and closing the door.
