Chapter 38
Bella's Point of View
After I was able to stand on my feet without Edward's help, we walked down the stairs and to the door. We headed to the garage were Jasper was already waiting. We got in to Emmett's jeep and we were headed to the field to meet Jake. When we got there he was in his wolf form. He saw us and made his way to the trees.
"Where's he going?" I asked.
"Phase back to human." Edward said.
"You're not fighting? What you pull a muscle?" Jake asked.
He scared me when I heard his human voice. It had been awhile.
"He's staying with me." I said.
"Whatever." Jake said.
He looked away from Edward and to Jasper.
"So what's the plan?" he asked.
"The newborns are here for Bella's blood." Jasper said.
"Your stench however is revolting." Edward said.
"Dude do you really wanna talk about stenches?" Jake asked.
"Ok stop. I'm paranoid enough and I don't need you two killing each other today. Jasper what do you want me to do?" I asked.
I had stepped in between of Edward and Jacob so they couldn't get any closer to each other.
"Jacob, we need you to carry Bella through the woods and up to the mountain top where they will be camping." Jasper said.
"Alright. Any particular reason?" Jacob asked.
"Your odor will keep hers from being smelled." Jasper said.
"Ok." Jake said. He got a little closer to me then stopped when Edward said something.
"Wait. What if this doesn't work?" he said.
"It's going to work." Jasper said.
"How do you know?" Edward asked.
"I don't but I have faith that it will." Jasper said.
"Plus, it doesn't hurt to try." Jacob said. He lifted me into his arms and turned around.
"Wish me luck." Jacob said.
"Run." said Edward.
Jacob took off running and the further away I got from him, the more I wanted Edward with me. Jacob had been running for a while and when he stopped he seemed out of breath.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
"Yea. I'm fine." He said.
"You don't seem fine. Do you want to stop?" I asked.
"No. Jasper said this will work so we have to test his theory." Jacob said. I sighed noticing how stubborn he was.
"Look Bella, I wanna apologize about the kiss thing. It was just me being an ass." Jacob said.
His face was turning red and arms tightened under me.
"Don't worry about it. It's over." I said. There was a silence between us.
"So you gonna ask me to sit out of the fight too?" Jacob asked breaking the silence. "Don't you care about my safety?" He was looking away from me.
"Of course I care. But you would have said no." I said.
"It's not like I have choice anyway." He said. I looked at him.
"What do you mean?" he sighed and looked at me when kind eyes.
