Ch. 38: The Date - Movie and Dinner

Nothing interesting happened that Friday. All that did happen was Ludwig was finally back at school but he seemed... Nicer, almost. Maddie still told Toris and Feliks not to tell Alfred about her moving. She also told them he'd be back in school Monday. They were pretty happy about latter. But the former? Not so much.

Anyway, Friday ticked by and soon Saturday came and Maddie was rushing around to get ready. Al would be there any minute and where was her right shoe?! She looked at through her room and even in the packed boxes. It was nowhere!

She stopped in the middle of her room and took a deep breath. "Okay, calm down, Maddie. If you were a shoe, where would you be?" she asked herself. She looked in her closet. Aha! There it was! She grabbed it and put it on just as the door bell rang.

She calmly walked downstairs and answered it. Alfred smiled at her.

"It's good to see you out and about," she said walking with Alfred to Arthur's car after telling Francis she'd be going.

"It's good to be out! You have no idea how bored I was. I couldn't do anything!" he said opening the car door for her and getting in after she did.

She smiled to Michelle, for she was the one driving. "Good evening, Michelle," she greeted.

"Hey, kiddo!" Michelle replied smiling. That smile looked better on Alfred, though...

"If you couldn't do anything, what did you do?" Maddie asked returning her attention to Alfred.

"Doc always insisted I sleep. So, when I wasn't asleep, I was watchin' TV. Mainly shows like Full House and stuff," he said.

"Ahh... So what movie are we watching?"

"It's a secret," he said holding a finger to his lips as a nonverbal way of saying 'shh'. Then he smiled making Maddie smile, too.

"Alright..." she said.

"Bee tee dubs, the reason dad's not here is 'cuz he got drunk last night again."

"It seems like it's a Friday night thing."

"No, it's more common than that. Anyway, mom said she's just gonna drop us off at the theater and do her own bidness."

"Where are we going?"

"Jefferson Pointe."

"Ah."

"Yeah. Then me and you go to an awesome place that I chose and have dinner there. Then we goof off for a while and mom picks us up," Alfred concluded.

"Sounds like fun."

"It will be! Just wait!" They fell in a silence for the rest of the car ride.

They pulled into Jefferson Pointe half an hour later. Alfred hurriedly got out of the car and opened Maddie's door for her like the gentleman he was.

She smiled and stepped out of the car. They waved as Michelle drove away, promising to pick them up in four hours- at ten o'clock.

"So, now will you tell me what movie we're watching?" Maddie asked as they waited in line to buy tickets.

"Nuh-uh. Now stay here and look adorable while I get the tickets," Alfred ordered smiling, moving some hair from her face. She nodded and Alfred walked to the glass-thingy separating him from the ticket vendor.

Maddie paid no heed to him as he purchased the tickets. She was busy, lost in her thoughts about nothing and everything. A few minutes later, Alfred grabbed her hand and lead her inside the theater. He gave the lady at the door their tickets. She took the bottom off and gave him the tickets again, and they were allowed past.

"We are in..." Alfred looked at a ticket. "Theater nine. Okay. Um, let's get some snacks. Anything you want?" he asked as they walked up to the concession counter.

"I don't care," she said honestly.

"Mhm. Uh, we'll take a, um, large popcorn... And two medium cokes... Plus, one Reese's and..." He looked at Maddie. "Ya sure you don't want anything?"

"Fine, how about a... Box of Hot Tamales?"

Alfred smiled at her choice. "And a box of Hot Tamales," he finished.

"Okay," the man behind the counter said. He then told them their total cost and Alfred paid. After about a minute of waiting, they had their concessions. Alfred stacked everything into the popcorn bowl and grabbed Maddie's hand with his free one. He lead her to theater nine.

Once inside the theater, they found a couple seats towards the center, just a little to the back. They got situated in their seats and Alfred gave Maddie her snacks.

As she opened her box of cinnamon flavored candy, Alfred held out a Reese's to her. She looked up from the box to it and smiled, opening her mouth. Alfred then fed it to her.

He smiled as she chewed the chocolate peanut butter candy. After she finally opened her box, she held it out to Alfred. He cupped his hands together and Maddie poured some into his hand.

"Thanks," he said kissing her cheek, causing her to blush slightly.

"It's no problem, really... So, what are we going to watch?" she asked, hopefully for the final time.

"You're still askin'? Fine, I'll tell ya. But don't laugh. I originally wanted to watch The Avengers but they were sold out."

"I won't laugh."

"Promise?" he asked giving her his best pouty face. She melted at the expression and nodded. Alfred held out his pinky and she hooked onto it with her own.

"I pinky promise I won't laugh," she said.

"We're watching Warm Bodies," he said looking away from her. Confusion grew on Maddie's face. Why would he be concerned about being laughed at by watching that movie?

When laughing was not heard, he looked up at Maddie. "You're not laughing?" he asked.

"One, I said I wouldn't and two, I don't understand why I'd laugh," she stated honestly.

"Oh, I just thought you'd think I'm lame or whatever by seeing a romance movie... It was either this, The Notebook, or Twilight. Like cereal. Why are they showing only four today? Usually there're about five or six movies playing."

"I don't know. But anyway, I don't care about what movie genres you like or not, I care about you. Even if you're male... And like romance movies." She couldn't surpass the smile that appeared on her face. "Is this even a romance movie?"

"I'm pretty sure," he answered. The lights dimmed letting the duet know the movie was almost starting. They quieted down and looked at the movie screen. Occasionally throughout the film, they'd eat the popcorn and Tamales. More common, they'd catch each other's gaze.

After the movie, an hour and a half later, Alfred and Maddie were walking out of the theater, talking about the movie.

"Dude! That was a freaky movie!" Alfred said throwing his and Maddie's garbage away.

"How? It was a love story," Maddie deadpanned.

"Zombies are creepy!" he answered in a 'duh' tone.

Maddie rolled her eyes playfully at the taller blond. "Sure, sure," she teased.

"Oh, hush up. I know for a fact you were scared. Why else would you've been clutching the arm rest like you did?" Maddie felt blood rise to her cheeks in embarrassment.

"Nuh uh. I wasn't scared," she denied smiling.

"Yeah huh."

"No."

"Yes." A smile broke out on his face.

"Non."

"Si!"

"Nein."

"Ja!"

"Nyet."

"Si!"

"...You already said that..."

"Nuh uh! It's Spanish and Italian. Get it right." He smiled at her again. She mimicked him. "Anywho, let's get goin'. I wanna eat."

"Alright." They walked out of the movie theater hand in hand. Maddie wrapped her jacket tighter around herself at the change in temperature. Alfred lead her some place in Jefferson Pointe.

Just as they were about to pass a corner, Alfred grabbed Maddie's arm catching her before she saw what was past it.

"What?" she asked looking at him.

"Cover your eyes, please?" he asked holding out his bottom lip.

She sighed but did so anyway. Alfred's hand grabbed her free one and pulled her in a direction of which she didn't know. Soon after, Alfred stopped again.

"Ready?" he asked.

"Yeah," she answered.

"Okay. Uncover your eyes." Maddie uncovered her eyes. As soon as her eyes adjusted, she saw a picnic set up. It was completed with a basket, candles, and a black blanket.

She gasped, covering her mouth in shock.

"Do you like it?" he asked nervously, thinking that her being silent meant she hated it.

"I- you- how? Yes! Oh my God yes! I love it!" she cried jumping into his unsuspecting arms. The sudden weight made Alfred fall back taking Maddie with him.

Maddie rested on top of Alfred looking into his blue eyes.

"You really like it?" he asked quietly.

She nodded. "Yeah. It's really cool and-" she smiled, "-heroic-like." Alfred broke into a smile.

"Awesome," he said. "Now, I'm still hungry. How 'bout we chow down on some awesome food I prepared?"

"Deal." She got off him and both sat on the blanket next to each other. Alfred pulled out a big plate and two smaller plates. He then pulled a couple bananas and grapes. He set them down and finally pulled out a canister of something to drink.

"For dinner, madamoiselle, we will be having," Alfred uncovered the big plate's lid, "tacos with a side of fruit. For dessert, we will have German chocolate cake." He pulled out a small tray of cake. "And lastly, for drinks, we will have a cup of lemony-aid."

"Lemony-aid?" she asked.

"Hush. This is supposed to be romantic," he said.

"I didn't know tacos could be considered a romantic dinner."

"Hu-ush! It's just no one uses tacos in romance stuff... From what I've heard! Not that I see or read romance... Pfft, no! Anywho, I wanted this to be unlike everything else and tacos came to mind... That and I'm kinda craving tacos right now," Alfred said.

"Then we shall eat those tacos!" Maddie announced laughing.

"Mhm! We shall!" Al agreed also laughing.
