Marshall wakes to find himself alone in Maggie's bed, he panics for a moment. He has to get his head
together if this… if this is what he fears the most. He grabs his phone and immediately calls Nico. He
knows exactly where Nico is and he needs him… now.
The vibration of the phone startles Nico from slumber. He sought solace in Dani's arms after he left
Maggie's house. These are the moments that he feels the walls closing in. Every phone call has the
potential to be that call… he can't shake the feeling. Marshall tells him that he is on his way. As they
had feared, they feel the game is afoot.
It is dawn and the world is still a silhouette of blazing color. Maggie can hear the footsteps approach.
She turns to see Vivian walking with a coffee. They both lean on the railing of the bridge as they stare
out into the morning. "Pink sky in morning…" Maggie smiles as Vivian changes position next to her. "I
think we are way beyond the scope of warning." Vivian laughs as she answers. "You are sure."
Maggie's tone changes with the discussion. "Yes, Viv… I am sure. This is how it has to be… this is how I
want it to be." Vivian has been in this business too long. She knows this moment has to be short. They
cannot risk being seen together. This is where her training is going to have to carry her through whether
she likes it or not. She embraces Maggie for a moment. She touches her face as they pull apart. Vivian
disappears into the shadows. She has work to do and promises to keep.
Dani feels Nico wake with a start. "I'm coming with you." Nico turns towards her in the bed. "Dani, I
love you more than anything in this world but I need to do this alone. It is too dangerous. I don't want
you there." There is an unintentional sharpness to Nico's tone. Dani knows it is the stress of this
situation. She knows it is the helplessness that he feels bubbling to the surface. She will abide by his
wishes. She knows she has to or she will risk the wrath of his pain. Nico dresses and rushes towards the
door. Dani lays in her bed staring at the ceiling in meditation and… prayer. She can feel the danger in
this situation and it is pulling her heart from her chest.
The docks are quiet as Maggie approaches her brothers. She embraces each of them. They know. They
know the gravity of the situation. They have known sacrifice and they know that they will know it again.
They separate into the cars as planned. The time is upon them.
Marshall and Nico drive like maniacs through the city to the port. They just hope they have time… time
to stop this insanity. The passage of time becomes a warped reality to them as they race through the
docks. They have to find it… they have to find it in time.
They arrive at the destination to watch the scene play out in slow motion at a distance in front of them.
With the sound of the shot, they break into a run. They arrive to see Maggie fall to the ground. Gabby
is screaming. The men scatter with the additional rounds. Marshall and Nico freeze in their tracks in
shock and horror. Suddenly the chaos turns to calm. Not the calm of serenity but the calm likened to
the eye of a tornado. Marshall snaps himself to the moment. He can't bear to look at her but he cannot
bear to see her lying alone. His precious… precious love is gone. He knows she is gone. He is drawn to
her like a moth to a flame. He needs to be with her. Nico knows this too… he grabs Gabrielle to so that
Marshall can do what he needs to do. There is only one final moment.
Marshall gathers Maggie up into his arms. Her face has a serenity that he has not seen in a very long
time. He knows she is without pain but he is not… his heart just shattered within his chest. He holds her
so very close. He takes in the warmth of her skin for the last time as her brothers stand over him
guarding this final moment. It is what she would have wanted.
Nico is desperately trying to contain his emotions. He knows this moment is a losing fight. Gabrielle is
near hysterics. She never knew. She never knew her sister had been the one. The one for all of these
years… Maggie was the puppet master. She played a dangerous game to keep Gabrielle safe from her
greatest enemy… herself. The game just cost her baby sister her life.
