Chapter 38: Rays

Holy crap was I ever amazed at slave Link's ability to deal with the pain of a freaking dislocation. Granted, I had never gotten one, but I was pretty sure that they were rather painful. Honestly, it just plain floored me how badass slave Link could be at times when compared to knight Link or me. However, I had soon decided that it was a good idea to just let it be. After all, it wasn't like we could afford to delay any longer than we already had.

As we moved along, we came across more rooms that had the falling blocks. This time, though, we knew how to deal with them properly and passed by them with relative ease. It was when we got outside that things got a little bit interesting. There were a bunch of really weird looking birds all around us. Their main colour seemed to be blue, but their heads were red and the ends of their wings were white. Not to mention the fact that they all seemed to have a bunch of massive tail feathers that shone in a golden light as they moved around.

Immediately, knight Link groaned. It was apparent that he knew what these birds were called and he didn't like them very much. Thankfully, it didn't take him long to tell slave Link and me that these things were called 'kargarocs'. Thinking that it was a very stupid name, I looked at them again and realized that most of them had noticed the three of us. All that I could do was put my shield up in time in order to prevent one of them from dive-bombing me with its sharp, yellow beak.

Quickly, knight Link pulled out his bow and began to fire a bunch of ice arrows at them. However, there were so many, that that didn't seem to cover it while I was busy with defense. All of a sudden, though, they all turned away and began to chase something that was in the air. One quick glance over to slave Link told me right away that it was his beetle that they were chasing! I grinned at this, seeing how stupid those birds were and I just watched as knight Link picked them off, one by one.

When they were all gone, I looked out towards the cloud cover and I saw something that really caught me off guard. I pointed to it, but neither one of the other Links managed to catch a glimpse of it. Thankfully, they believed me and stated that if it came any closer, then we would just have to take it down… if it was hostile, that was. Then again, what WASN'T hostile in a place like this? Either way, we moved on to a door that we hadn't seen beyond before and we went through.

On the other side, though, was a large, circular room that seemed to be VERY decrepit. In fact, the remaining parts of its wall only formed a semicircle and the floor was almost non-existent aside from what was near the door. However, we had already explored all that was accessible to us on the side of the door that we had come from, so we came to the conclusion that we needed to find something in this room. Unfortunately, with the room basically posing as a dead end, we were at a loss. Just as we were about to turn back, though, we heard a gushing sound and the thing that I had seen in the clouds earlier zoomed through the room from the bottom up!

Having gotten a better look at it, I realized that it was a large, blue, flying, manta ray. My brain was swarmed with wondering how such a creature could possible exist, but then knight Link suggested that we were supposed to fight that thing. In response, I told him that he was crazy, but slave Link then backed him up. Afterwards, I sighed and figured that if I would just go along with getting shot through a cannon in order to get up there, then I might as well just go along with this crazy idea too. Therefore, when it zoomed through the room again, I was ready to simply just jump out into the open air and grab on!

The thing was easy enough to grab on to, but that didn't really concern me. What did concern me, though, was the fact that it had started flying very level. So much so, in fact, that I found it ridiculously easy to just stand up on its back! Then, with the three of us standing on this creature's back, I began to wonder if this thing was actually hostile or not. It may have begun taking us away from the floating dungeon in the sky, but it hadn't tried to hurt us since we had jumped onto it. I was about to suggest that we not do anything to the creature, but then something much larger clouded my vision!

Looking at it, I could see that it was another flying manta ray, but this one was at least three times the size of the one that we were riding on and it was red instead of blue. Knight Link quickly jumped from the blue one to the red one, so slave Link and I followed suit and began wondering what we were supposed to do. I asked knight Link about it, but he revealed that he honestly had no idea. He was just doing what felt he should do. I got ready to yell at him, but then the creature decided to do a barrel ro- I mean an aileron roll, so the only thing that I could do was hang on for dear life!

When it righted itself again, the three of us got up and I looked ahead of us. All that I could see were clouds around us, so I directed my attention to the creature and I realized that it had about eight eyes and three of them were open. Upon closer inspection, it seemed a have a white cloth of some sort just in front of the eyes. It didn't take long for us to figure out what to do: we had to slash, or maybe even stab, the eyes with our swords. Each of us easily picked an eye without having to communicate with each other at all, and we started going to town on them! However, it was when the blue one came back and knocked knight Link off that we stopped and actually began to freak out a little bit.
