PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!
Sorry that I never updated last week. It's like, I have all the ideas to write but none of the actual inspiration to write it all out at once. But as I promised many times before I will not abandon this story until it's over!
I'M GOING TO A CONVENTION THIS FRIDAY YAWEFHPIHSDKJAF :D Yay hopefully I can get some pockey and good merch O.o
Now for the review replies!
Serene Snowfall: You weren't joking about the long review. Woo sistahs! And don't worry hun, you're getting another Cain scene today too ;) The book isn't really all that important to the story, Nightmare just likes books as you know so if I ever write anything about her buying a book and not specifying what it is then it's most likely a novel or a history book. I know I need to up the Law gameplay, I'm just trying to get this whole Cain loving Nightmare thing behind. There is a little Law scene at the end in this chappy too so look forward to it and enjoy! Love ya :D
Girl-luvs-manga: Sadly nope :/
10th Squad 3rd Seat: Dem legs though :3 And if you mean like just a type of physical possessiveness then I'm not completely sure yet. There will hopefully be some more development in the next chapter though.
MuffinMan9223: Haha XD Armstrong would be all like "this miniskirt has been passed down in my family for generations!" Oh Roy, you finally get your dream and this happens :( I think that the way I write really helps with keeping people in character. Because before I even write out a scene in my mind I go through that characters like way of doing things and sometimes just go "no he would never do that" and come up with something else. It never even occurred to me to make Law do something like make her lunch or help her out because he is that type of person through and through (or at least from what I've seen).
sereneskydragonslayer: Well it's finally here! :D Sorry for the wait.
reddevil47: Hopefully it's interesting enough :D Hope you enjoy!
And that's it for that chapter. So let's just get to the chapter since I bet you all can't wait any longer!
Chapter 36: A Rageful Wickedness
Nightmare was still sitting atop Cain being fortunate enough to receive some time while Cain contemplated his options. From her single response of 'I'm hungry' she knew that she had definitely pushed too far and if not then she had pushed him to the very tip of the edge. The most surprising thing out of all of this is that Cain didn't immediately throw her to the ground like Law had done to her. Nightmare wasn't stupid though. She knew that Cain was only thinking of what he should do to her so that she can learn her lesson. This was Nightmare so unless he did something with a real effect she would just wake him up again the next time the opportunity came.
"So you're telling me that you woke me up because you are fucking hungry?" Cain glared up at Nightmare coldly with tired eyes as she still sat on top of him.
"Yup," Nightmare answered bluntly. In that moment Cain reached up at her and grabbed her neck whilst swiftly pushing her off of him and onto the floor. Now Cain was sitting on top of Nightmare using his right hand to choke her and his left arm to hold both of her hands above her head and on the floor. At first he hadn't gripped her neck that hard but now his hand became very fond of attempting to stop Nightmare from receiving air. A fiery wickedness flickered in Cain's eyes as his mouth held a sadistic smile. That was the first time Nightmare thought Cain would actually kill her. Even before when they had cut each other's necks she didn't think he'd kill her, but now it was a very possible outcome. Just as Nightmare had determined before Cain was definitely stronger than her and she couldn't break free.
"It's your choice now, you either get your hunger quenched by yourself or the right to breathe," Cain gave Nightmare her options.
"I'm… still hungry," Nightmare was barely able to squeeze the words from her mouth now. The reason behind that answer of hers was simple. She had already pushed him this far and if it wasn't the furthest then she might as well push him farther. Cain's wicked eyes sharpened into a glare. He lifted up her head by the neck and slammed it back down into the ground.
"Fine then," Cain muttered darkly. "I'll give you one last option," he told her. Nightmare did her best to keep a straight face through all of this. If this was a real enemy she probably would've laughed back or had some more sly remarks for him but this was Cain and she didn't need a full blown fight to ensue. "To compensate for waking me up and giving me some smartass answer I'll let you repay me…" Cain paused and neared her ear "with your body." Somehow she had seen that coming. At this point she started to actually regret waking him up. "So what'll it be, Miss Bitch?" Once again Nightmare's name had changed. Cain wasn't giving her any room for a verbal response. It was hard enough to breathe as it was and if she even tried to talk his grip would tighten. All Cain was looking for was a nod.
Nightmare, on the other hand, did not want to give in at all. She assumed that lying by nodding would be a bad idea since Cain could just attack her the moment she nodded. If she shook her head no then Cain would probably choke her to death then and there. She tried to wriggle her arms free but that only caused Cain to tighten his hold around them.
"Aw are you worried about what our poor Captain will think?" Cain asked mockingly. That phrase alone told Nightmare that she was dealing with the bloodthirsty child who had slaughtered his family. If there was one thing about Cain that Nightmare knew for sure it was that he held Law in high respects. Cain had clearly told her the day after her return that he'd wait for Law to screw up before taking her. What he just said basically threw that concept out the window. Cain smirked as he inched towards her face "don't worry about that. This can just be our little secret," and with that Cain forcefully smashed his lips onto hers.
There was nothing. Nightmare did not feel anything at all. Rather than that incessant warmth she felt while with Law she felt nothing. She didn't want this. It felt cold. She hated the cold. So Nightmare did the only thing she could do at this point and bite his lip as hard as she could. Cain jerked backwards and brought the hand that was choking her up to his lips, which was now bleeding. Nightmare took this chance to take a deep breath of refreshing air. Now she could win. Cain would've been better off freeing her arms because he had just let go of her most powerful weapon, her words.
"Cain I get it okay? I know that right now you aren't in a great place, but is this how you want to win? With force? What the fuck do you think you'll accomplish? Okay so you get to do the girl you claim to love, and then what? I won't love you back; honestly I don't think I ever will. But right now you're making it really hard for me to at least like you as a friend. Cain I don't mean to make your life any harder than it is. I seriously just wanted a sandwich and I know you didn't do all that just now because I only woke you up. It's your pent up rage right? That's why it happened the first time too, isn't it?" Nightmare finally stopped talking hoping that she had gotten through to him. She definitely did, perhaps a bit too much as well. Cain's wickedness dimmed as he realized what he was doing. He immediately let go of Nightmare's arms and got off of her. Both of his hands made their way up to his head where they gripped on to his hair in a display of agony.
"Fuck," he grumbled. Nightmare slowly sat up and rolled her wrists to get the feeling back in them.
"I'm right aren't I? The wickedness you were born with just bottles up all your rage until you basically explode into a period of pure bloodlust. You killed your own family due to this, but at the same time you never learned to feel sorry for the entire ordeal, did you? It was there fault that you felt all that rage in the first place so why should you feel sorry for doing that? That was your reasoning wasn't it?" Nightmare explained her full theory to him. She knew she was right. It's not as if she came to this answer the moment she came in physical contact with him. She had wanted to know the truth about why he did it from the moment she saw his reaction to his own nightmare back on that cursed island. From that moment on she had silently started to put the pieces together. With every response, reaction, and word up until this point she had been able to string her theory together.
"Geez, when are you ever not right?" Cain muttered. "Truthfully the actual incident is a blur; all I remember is grabbing that knife and the sight of their dead bodies. Before running away I justified my actions in my mind with the same reason that you just gave. It's an old story though; I try not to think of it. Not that I really have any time to think about it with everything else that's been happening," Cain gave a small chuckle as he slowly shook his head. Finally Cain decided to get up and then helped Nightmare up. "Uh Nightmare…" Cain started somewhat awkwardly and she gave him a questioning look. "I'm sorry," he told her. Nightmare looked at Cain for a moment and then with a smile she gave him a quick peck on the cheek. Cain looked at her with a surprised face and she just smirked.
"Our little secret, right?" she asked him as she walked towards the door. "But seriously I'm hungry so if you would, can you please get your hung-over ass to the kitchen and cook me some lunch?" Nightmare asked him as she picked up the shopping bag which held her new book and opened the door. Cain stared at Nightmare completely befuddled. How the hell could she react like that? Especially after everything he just did to her. What was wrong with this girl?
"Fine," Cain mumbled and followed after her so that he could cook her lunch. Nightmare leaned against the kitchen counter in wait of her lunch as Cain worked at the stove. The submarine was practically empty due to almost everyone being out on the island. "If everyone else went to the island for lunch why didn't you just go with?" Cain asked Nightmare as he prepared a plate.
"You better be crazy if you think I'd willingly go back out to that place," she told him.
"And here I thought it was because you loved my cooking so much," Cain pouted in a joking manner with a smirk. Nightmare was glad that he was back to normal now, but she wasn't sure how long that would last.
It was later on in the day now and nighttime was upon the vineyard island. The Heart Pirates had all returned to the submarine by now and were in the galley eating dinner. When Law had found out that Nightmare successfully got Cain to cook her lunch he was surprised, but didn't ask much when he found out about it. Nightmare sat in silence as she ate while reading her new book. While reading, her mind went over ways that she would eliminate her target. Although Nightmare had planned to get rid of him on this night things didn't always go as planned.
"I'm sick and tired of sleeping on the floor," Rose complained as the two girls made their way back to Nightmare's room after dinner.
"It's been one night…" Nightmare pointed out.
"I don't care; I don't want to sleep there again. I deserve to at least sleep in a bed," Rose went on. Nightmare let out a sigh while rubbing her temples, not wanting to listen to Rose.
"I don't care, you are sleeping on the floor and that's that," Nightmare told her straight out. Rose was about to whine about it some more but then a mischievous look came across her face. Nightmare did not like that look on her face.
"Alright fine," Rose waved off as if all her earlier complaints were lies. Nightmare didn't say anything and just watched Rose cautiously as the girl began to scan the halls. What was she looking for? Rose suddenly stopped in the middle of the hallway causing Nightmare to stop as well. Nightmare began to realize Rose's plan when she saw what part of the sub they were in. Without a moment of thought Rose grabbed Nightmare's wrist, opened a door, and threw her into the room. "Have fun," Rose chirped with a victorious smile as she closed the door.
Nightmare kept her glare on Rose until the door was completely shut. Was she trying to make Nightmare's job harder? Doing this would only make it harder for Nightmare to sneak out in the middle of the night to complete her mission.
"Uh… Miss Mizuki, why on earth were you just thrown into my room?" Law's voice brought Nightmare from her thoughts of anger. Throughout all this thinking Nightmare completely forgot that she was just thrown into Law's room. On top of that, Law was actually in the direct path that Nightmare was thrown, which caused them to both fall down. Nightmare's back pressed against Law's chest and she looked up to see his head hanging over hers.
"Well apparently Rose isn't a fan of sleeping on the floor…" Nightmare muttered. Law raised a questioning brow but after a moment of thought he guessed what had happened. "So I guess I'm staying here for the night," she added casually with a shrug. Nightmare didn't mind that she'd be with Law all night again; it was just the matter of completing her mission that she worried about. Just as Nightmare was getting up Law grabbed her wrist and pulled her back down between his legs, making sure to wrap his arms around her waist so that she wouldn't leave. Honestly her wrists were getting tired of all the harsh treatment they were receiving today.
"Good," Law rested his chin on Nightmare's shoulder and just silently held her there for a moment. He felt as if he hadn't seen her as much as he wanted to since her return. If it were up to him then he'd want to be with her all day like this, but that wasn't the case. His eyes traveled over her shoulders and looked down at her arms. One of her jacket sleeves exposed a bit of her arm so he was able to have a clear view of her wrist. Law was already aware that Nightmare was coated in the golden markings, which he didn't really like, but what he wanted to address at the moment were the red markings on her wrist as if someone had forcefully grabbed her. He hadn't grabbed her that forcefully and if he recalls correctly this was the opposite wrist of which he had seen Rose grab. "What happened to your wrist?" he finally asked as he lightly took it in his hand and rolled the sleeve up so that she couldn't avoid the question.
"Oh nothing," Nightmare was quick to answer, which only furthered Law's suspicions.
"Mizuki," Law spoke in a low tone. "What happened to your wrist?" he repeated in a stricter manner.
"Let's just say that you were right when warning me not to wake Cain up…" Nightmare trailed off hoping that Law wouldn't get terribly angry with Cain.
"You seem to be bringing him up and talking to him a lot more often than before," Law frowned. That response surprised her. She thought he'd be somewhat mad with Cain. Instead of that though he seemed more ticked off with the fact that the two were getting in more feuds or conversations than before.
"Oh is someone jealous?" Nightmare teased with a smirk.
"Of course not," Law answered defiantly and then suddenly brought his lips down to her neck. This action caught Nightmare by surprise but didn't do anything to stop him since it felt good. He sucked down on the flesh of her neck leaving behind a fresh hickey. Was this his way of proving he's not jealous because it's not a very convincing argument.
A knock came to the door before anything else could happen. Law was very comfortable at the moment and did not want to deal with anyone. "What is it?"
"Captain, can I talk to you about something?" it was Cain's voice that came from the other side of the door. Nightmare just stayed silent with a plain expression as she waited for Law to respond to him.
"Come back later, I'm busy," Law muttered.
"Alright, I'm coming in," Cain completely ignored Law's response causing the man to sigh. If there was anyone who would enter his room without permission it would be Cain. Law just sighed and looked up at the opening door, not bothering to remove his arms from around Nightmare's waist. When Cain entered the room he really didn't expect to see Nightmare there, and on top of that she was sitting between his legs with his arms wrapped around her waist. Earlier today Cain had thought he had calmed down at least a bit. He thought that he was finally able to accept that Nightmare may never love him. That didn't mean he was over her just yet, and this sight before him found a way to make his blood boil.
"What is it?" Law asked, being quite annoyed that he was interrupted. Cain said nothing and just stared at the two for a moment longer. He held himself back from glaring or doing anything rash. Nightmare could tell just by looking at him that he didn't like the sight of them.
"Never mind," Cain mumbled harshly and then turned around while slamming the door shut. Law gave a questioning look towards the closed door whilst Cain just kept walking down the hallway.
"What was that about?" Law asked as he finally let go of Nightmare. Law noticed that Cain didn't seem so much as surprised as angry to see them together.
"Just great," Nightmare said with a sigh. Law looked over to Nightmare questioningly as he got up, and helped her up in the process.
"What?"
"Well the truth is," Nightmare paused so that she could go and sit down on Law's bed "that Cain actually knew about us being together from the beginning." She finally told Law. Law sat down on the bed beside her while taking in the information just given to him. It didn't surprise him that much that Cain had found out about such a thing. If anything he had even expected Cain to be the first to find out.
"Then why is it a bad thing that he saw us?" Law questioned, still somewhat confused on the whole situation. Nightmare didn't seem too happy when Cain had left like that.
"To be blunt… he also likes me. Actually he claims to love me," Nightmare finally came out with it. Law's eyed widened, not expecting such an answer. Out of every single man in his crew he had not imagined Cain to be the one to fall in love. To make it worse it was with the person that Law loved too. "I see that look on your face," Nightmare muttered "don't worry it's not like I love him back. The reason why it wasn't a very smart thing to let him see us like this is because Cain has some… anger issues I guess. He won't try to fight you or anything, but I do have a feeling that no one should be roaming the streets of the island tonight," she explained to Law. Law understood a lot about Cain. He knew that Cain was completely insane and quite evil on the inside. That's why he believed what Nightmare had just said.
Nightmare was right. Cain couldn't hold in his rage any longer. Obviously he wouldn't attempt to kill Law, since that would be completely stupid of him. But if he didn't kill something or someone soon he felt as if he'd explode. So, on that night, without even a hint of hesitation Cain went to his bed, got his weapon –which was a black scythe– and then went out to the island to wreak havoc.
On that night twenty innocent, and some not so innocent, people died, and five acres of grapevines burned down. All in all it was a night controlled by the bloodthirsty eyes of a wicked man.
A/N: So how was that? We finally got to know what Cain's weapon is! It's a scythe for mainly two reasons. Reason 1) I love scythes! Reason 2) It just seems like the type of weapon Cain would wield since a scythe is like a sign of death and Cain is so fond on killing people. I hope you guys all liked this chapter since I made you all wait longer than usual. Hopefully the next chapter will be out on time but don't get your hopes too high :/
I don't really have much else to say soooo without further ado
