YAY another chapter. I'm really disappointed that only one person reviewed. Thank you funlove109. Please review. I will post the next chapter after 3 reviews. I hope you like this chapter. It is focused compleatly on Marcus and Niko. :) I'm starting to like Niko alot. I hope you do too.
Marcus slowed down gradually before he finally stopped. He didn't want that stupid boy to get whiplash. When he finally did stop, they were surrounded by burning hot sand. Lucky for Marcus it didn't hurt as bad. He'd learned how to block his senses.
"Where the fuck are we" Niko growled, getting down from Marcuse's back. They'd been there less than a minute and they were already sweating profusely. It had to be at the coolest 100 degrees.
"I think somewhere in Colorado" Marcus said, wiping the sweat off his forehead with his arm.
"Well can't we go somewhere that's not a thousand degrees?" Niko grumbled, crossing his arms. Marcus rolled his eyes.
"You know I'm really tired" Marcus told him, harshly.
` "Then why didn't you stop before we got into this hell hole?"
"Probably because I didn't realize I couldn't make it through."
"So you're an idiot" Niko grumbled, glaring at the android.
"No!" Marcus snarled. "It was probably because I was carrying two hundred pounds of dead weight." Niko took two steps toward him.
"I am not two hundred pounds" he spat. "I'm a hundred-sixty!" His pupils were dilated in anger and breathing heavily. Marcus rolled his eyes, still clutching his fists.
"We're only a few miles to the end" Marcus said, angrily. "We can make it by tomorrow morning if we start walking." Both boys sighed. Neither wanted to walk. It had been a long day for both of them.
"Well get a move on then" Niko griped. Marcus tuned on his heels and started to walk. They made slow progress and had to break a few times. The sun was just reaching its peak when Niko spoke. "What are you anyway?" he asked, his voice much lighter than before. Marcus considered lying but decided against it.
"I'm an android" he said emotionlessly.
"Is that some kind of robot?" Niko asked. Marcus glanced at him. He didn't seem angry, just curious.
"Pretty much" Marcus stated. They fell back into a more comfortable silence.
"Why were those guys after you?" Niko asked again. Marcus paused.
"You look tired we should take a break" Marcus said. Niko flopped to the ground without complaint. Hesitantly Marcus followed, crossing his legs. He really didn't want to talk right now but maybe they could get the tension out. He didn't want to be stuck with an ass the entire time.
"So?" Niko asked. Marcus tuned his eyes to the ground.
"They're part of an army" Marcus said. "They want to kill us so we can't stop them."
"Us?" Niko asked. Marcus paused, scratching his arm. This sand was beginning to dry his skin. Why did he stop here? He hated sand. It made him want to claw off his skin. He probably could have made it closer to the edge, he would have passed out but still.
"Me and my sibling" Marcus told him, his voice cracking a bit when he thought of Chase.
"How do you have siblings if you're a robot?" Niko asked? Marcus chuckled darkly.
"My creator made me and my brother Jack. He made some test tube kids and implanted bionics in them. Technically none of us are blood related but we're still family. We were going to fight him, Adam, Bree, Chase, and I. I think Jack was going to too." Niko raised an eyebrow when Marcus spat Jack's name.
"You don't like jack?"
Marcus clutched his fists. "No." He didn't have any hesitation in telling that.
"Why?" the human asked. His questions were starting to get even more annoying.
"He came between me and the person I love. I don't think we're ever going to get back together." Niko frowned, looking truly sorry.
"Don't worry man" he said, slapping Marcus's back. "There's plenty of Robo-chicks in the sea." That actually made Marcus laugh.
"I wasn't dating a Robo-chick" Marcus chuckled. "And there are no Robo-chicks. Just me and Jack."
"Well I'm sure you can find another girl" he said standing up. "We should start moving before it gets dark." Marcus nodded, sadly. The rest of the day was silent. Neither of them had the urge to talk. They just wanted to get out of here as fast as they could.
They were running on the last of their adrenalin by the time the sun began to rise. Niko had wanted to sleep but then started complain how freezing it was. So they walked the night, trying to keep their bodies warm.
"Oh thank god" Niko shouted, throwing his arms in the air. Marcus looked up from the ground and almost cheered. Only a few yards away from them was a cracked and old road. It stretched through the sand like a beautiful mirage. "We just need to follow the road" He sighed. Marcus let himself smile.
"And were almost out" he added. "Only about half of a mile away." The moment their feet touched the pavement they felt like they were going to collapse. It seemed they were out of energy.
"I t-think I need to sit" Niko yawned. Marcus had no complaints. They collapsed onto the hard ground. It was wonderful. Sand took three times as much energy to walk through then hard ground. Now they'd be out before noon. "Where's the closest town?" Niko asked. Marcus blinked before his eyes closed. He really didn't want to use his bionics. It was tiring and he really didn't want to go through that. He sighed to himself. They did need to know. Just because they make it out of this sandy prison, it didn't mean they could rest. Reluctantly he GPS'd their location.
"Actually we're almost there" Marcus said, trying to open his eyes again. "We should be able to see it if we walk a little farther he said. "Only a quarter of a mile away."
"Then we should go" Niko mumbled.
"Yea" Marcus almost whispered back. The next thing he knew he was sound asleep, having yet another dream of the boy he lost.
