Chapter 38: Vampire Child

"If I ever get out of here I'll kill you Simon Lewis." My sister cursed and breathed heavy. "And then... then I'll bring you back and kill you again." She breathed again. "And then – ahhhhhhhh – I will sent Alec after you and have you killed by him again."

Simon just sat next to her and held her hand. Although she was swearing at him she still had his hand in hers and by the look of it she squeezed it as hard as she could. I must admit, I never thought he would be so good. My sister was strong and he never even let out one sound of pain. I saw him flinch once but who wouldn't when they got tortured by Isabelle Sophia Lightwood? I had suffered from her hands a lot of times, it wasn't a pleasant experience (I might have been crying a few times).

Demon hunting Isabelle Lightwood was dangerous, but no one can imagine Isabelle Lightwood giving birth. If I wouldn't just see it myself I would have sworn Izzy with a seraph blade and her whip was the most terrifying sight but her screaming and swearing in pain was far above that. I was so glad that her swearing wasn't directed to me. Well Simon knocked her up so it was just fair he now had to deal with this.

Luckily Magnus had told us she was nearly ready to give birth now. About five hours ago Simon had called us to let us now Isabelle's contractions had started and her water broke. Magnus had hurried there and since then we waited. Jace was also there and so was Magenta.

Finally after twenty more minutes later Magnus gave Isabelle a sign that she would start pushing. She did what she was told but instead of more swearing she just breathed hard and I swore I heard a bone of Simon's hand break. At least she wouldn't greet her child with swearwords.

After another couple of minutes Magnus was able to hand Isabelle her baby for the first time. The whole room seemed to sigh at once relieving the breath everyone had been holding. Proudly she looked down a her newborn boy.

"Let me introduce you to Gideon James Lightwood." Isabelle said after a while and she and Simon held out the baby to me. I took him carefully and he began to babble and make baby sounds. Instantly I could tell he was coming after his mother, never quiet and always talking. I carefully caressed his cheeks with my finger and he grabbed it and bean to suck at it. Isabelle cooed at him and I smiled.

Now Magenta stepped next to me and also smiled down at her cousin. She tickled his feet and he began to laugh. "He's so sweet." She cooed. I gave Gideon to her to hold him. She then passed him back to Isabelle. For us this was the sign to leave. We didn't want to disturb the new family.

On our way home we went to Taki's to get some food. When we got out of there the sun was already setting. When we arrived at home there was already someone waiting for us. First I only saw a shadow leaning against the wall and when we came closer Raphael Santiago stepped out of the shadow.

"Raphael Santiago. What a surprise." Magnus noted. "To what do we owe the honor of this visit?"

"Magnus Bane." Raphael acknowledged. "Why don't you invite me inside and we have a nice chat? Alexander Lightwood, pleasure to see you again." He said turning to me. I knew his friendly attitude was fake, I could hear his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Come in." Magnus said and opened the door. Once we were inside Raphael noticed Magenta who had been standing behind me all the time.

"Dios mío! Who's that beautiful girl you were hiding Alexander? You're not going to introduce us?" Before I could even open my mouth in an attempt to introduce them even if I disliked the thought of it, Raphael had stepped towards Magenta and had taken her hand to kiss it. "I'm Raphael. What is your name beautiful girl?" Magenta blushed.

"My name's Magenta." She told him.

"Well that's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl." He winked at her.

"Raphael, stay away from my daughter." I growled. That piece of dirt would not dare flirt with my daughter in front of me. "What do you want here?"

"Dad, stop being overprotective." Magenta told me before Raphael could answer my question.

"You don't know him." I told her. "He's not as nice as he seems to be."

"Careful amigo, you don't want me as an enemy." Raphael told me. "But then you're right. I'm here for business. I want to know about that vampire child of the daylighter. My clan needs to be informed about any new vampires around as you know Magnus Bane." He bowed his head to Magnus.

"I very well know, Raphael." Magnus responded. "His name's Gideon James Lightwood. I will be the warlock to supervise his powers. I will keep you informed of every power I discover. Is there anything else you need?"

"No, that would be all. But you could send your beautiful daughter with the information. I would really love to see her again." He again winked at Magenta. Before I could go at him again Magnus stepped in.

"I will not. You will get the information from me and no one else. I'm sure you have other things to accomplish tonight?" Friendly, but still firmly he pushed Raphael out of our apartment and closed the door behind him.

"What was that about?" I asked.

"It's not often that male vampires have children with human and even less with shadowhunters. As you can imagine Gideon will be quite unique. So every time there is a vampire child it will need a warlock supervising him growing up. That's what I'll do." Magnus explained.

"Why can't I do that?" Magenta asked. "I need to learn such things and you could help me. It would be a great chance, we don't know if there's another chance for you to show me if there aren't many vampire children."

"It's true that would be a good chance. But you won't get to meet Raphael Santiago again." Magnus stated.

"Dad, I told you to stop. I'm not a child anymore. I can look for myself." Magenta retorted defiantly.

"There's no point arguing." I told her. "Raphael isn't anywhere near good enough for you. He's a slimy bastard."

"We will see." She nearly shouted, turned on her heels, ran to her room and slammed the door.

"Great, just great." I muttered.
