Who was this? He looked nice, but she wasn't familiar with him. Kai was his name? No, never heard that one before. Come to think of it, it would be nice to have a friend like him. He was handsome enough as it was, but his personality was even better.
"Excuse me, Kai is it?" Lauren asked.
How did Lauren not know who he was? He looked at Inori, who was a little shocked herself.
"Inori, who is this? Is he your friend?" Lauren asked.
"What?!" Kai spluttered. "No! How do you not recognize me?!" Inori put her hand on his shoulder.
"Its the mirror. I never realized that her memories of you would be erased. I could reverse it, but I'm afraid that could take weeks," she explained. "Until then, she will have no recollection of you."
She didn't know him?
"I don't care, just fix her!" Kai demanded. It was bad enough that Lauren was gone, Taiko could attack any day!
"Fix me?" Lauren asked, puzzled. Kai sighed, how could he make her remember him? Maybe go through some memories? Wait, their album! They could work on it together!
"Come with me," Kai said. Lauren didn't object, but he could tell she had an uneasy expression. The recording studio Lauren had created just earlier was still there. Kai quickly searched through the files of music Lauren had been working on. He picked one at random, but one that was meaningful. He put on the track that wasn't released yet.
Kai: Woke up on the right side of the bed
What's up with this Prince song inside my head?
Hands up if you're down to get down tonight
Cuz it's always a good time.
Slept in all my clothes like I didn't care
Hopped into a cab, take me anywhere
I'm in if you're down to get down tonight
Cuz it's always a good time
Lauren: Good morning and good night
I wake up at twilight
Both: It's gonna be alright
Kai: We don't even have to try
It's always a good time
Both: Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
It's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
We don't even have to try, it's always a good time.
Lauren: Freaked out, dropped my phone in the pool again
Checked out of my room hit the ATM
Let's hang out if you're down to get down tonight
Cuz it's always a good time
Kai: Good morning and good night
Lauren: I wake up at twilight
Both: Its gonna be alright
Kai: We don't even have to try
It's always a good time.
Both: Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
It's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
We don't even have to try, it's always a good time.
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
It's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
We don't even have to try, it's always a good time.
Kai: Doesn't matter when
It's always a good time then
Lauren: Doesn't matter where
It's always a good time there
Kai: Doesn't matter when,
It's always a good time then
Both: It's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
It's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
We don't even have to try, it's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
It's always a good time
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh
We don't even have to try, it's always a good time.
Kai looked over at Lauren, hoping that would trigger some sort of memory. She just looked dazzled.
"That's me singing?! Are we business partners or something?" Lauren said. Dang it.
It was a long shot anyway, thought Kai. He shut down the program, and tried to think of another way to trigger her memories. At least the memories of him.
Suddenly, Kai's phone buzzed. It was a text from Cole.
Cole: where r u?
Kai sighed again.
Kai: At Garmadon's monastery. Lauren's here as you may know.
A second later, Kai's phone buzzed again.
Cole: Come back home, she's dealing with some emotional stuff right now. Its not like you need to be there or anything. Besides, we're going on a Boy's Night Out!
Kai: She's over that.
Cole: Why don't you come back then?
Kai: You don't understand, she's lost her memories.
Cole: What? That makes no sense.
Kai: I'll explain it later, I'm staying over here tonight.
Cole: Don't do anything too stupid. *wink wink* Anyway, you could totally use the memory loss thing to your advantage. You could bend them into your image!
Kai: Oh, shut up.
He turned his gaze back up, and Lauren was gone. She'd gone out into the hallway, and was looking at a picture.
"The caption says that this is my Uncle Garmadon! He's so nice. Too bad I've never met my dad or mom before," Lauren said a little too cheerily. This wasn't the same Lauren he'd known. Geez, would he ever know that Lauren again? Well, he did meet her earlier that day. Not "meet her".
"So... Kai is it? Sorry, I'm not the best at remembering things. Are you like my brother or something? We both have brown hair, so I was just wondering," Lauren asked.
"No, we're not related," he answered. There had to be a way for her to snap out of it in less than a week! He wanted as much time as he could with this version of Lauren. At least before Taiko struck.
"Are we friends?" the kunoichi said with a smile. "I'm hoping so, because you're kind too."
"Well, yeah," Kai said back. 'Use the memory loss thing to your advantage' was what Cole had said.
"I guess we're a little, more than just friends," he went on.
