Chapter thirty – seven – Unspeakable Things
Wandering the hallways of Dauntless at six in the morning I tried to take in the silence. Initiation was starting today which also meant that we'd be going through stressful weeks, dealing with young adults who were scared of not making it to the faction they had chosen. Fear could make them express themselves in ways which would test us. I've been through it, remembering how May and her little group tried to bully me. Eric having my side and me daring to stand up for myself is what pushed me forward, but I was aware that not a lot of people would have the same support I had during difficult times. It made me dread going through this initiation as a supervisor working alongside my husband.
Heading to the Chasm I greeted Four with a bright smile. It had been a while since we met up like this. It actually had been a while since we had spoken to each other at all. Four spent a lot of time together with Eric and now that things were settled considering the loss of Wes and initiation completely prepped and taken care of, the man in question was going to take on the role of Dauntless leader. He wasn't looking forward to it, but he was going through it because I asked it of him. It could also be because he pitied me when I cried in my father's arms, but I tried not to think of that.
"Morning to you, Rose." Four sounded tired and annoyed, yet he greeted me with a smile of his own, "Why are we meeting up at this awful hour of the day?"
"Thought you were all for waking up at five in the morning and starting your day with a run around the compound?"
"Not when it's the first day of initiation and my first day as a Dauntless leader. Today is going to be tiring as hell. Not to mention I've been seeing too much of Eric lately."
I leaned into him, giving him a side hug, "On the bright side I decorated the office to your taste instead of mine. Simple and clean. If I could I'd have offered to oversee your class instead of Eric, but Max made it a point that I oversee Dauntless-born instead."
"It makes sense since you're promoting this faction like crazy lately." Four smiled down at me, "I wouldn't be surprised if you tattooed I heart Dauntless on your left arm."
Pulling away I feigned shock, "Is that some Eric sarcasm I hear?" I giggled when I noticed the disgusted look on Four's face, "Oh my, you two really have been spending too much time together."
He gave my shoulder a playful shove, "It's too early for this." He muttered.
My smile fell from my face which made him wary of me, "On a more serious note-" I lowered my voice, making sure no one else but Four would catch my words, "I know you got my hint the other day, but to be clear please don't get involved with this Erudite thing. Trust me when I say that it's more dangerous than we ever imagined. I'm taking a different approach and I think it's actually working."
He folded his arms across his chest, his black tee tightening around his shoulders and chest. It made me blush realizing I was staring at him, I couldn't be looking at him the same way I looked at Eric whenever he got all serious with me. This thing between Four and I was way too complicated and neither one of us dared to talk about it. What we did know was that we'd risk our lives for each other. We left it at that.
"You think you'll succeed before it's too late?" He asked me.
I grabbed onto the cold railing of the bridge, staring at the water splashing down with such a huge force. The sound of it was loud and deafening. It's why people didn't stay too long at the Chasm and why it was the best meeting place to discuss matters like wanting to punch Jeanine Matthews in the face and telling her to back the fuck off.
"I already made a lot of progress with my plan." I smiled at him, noticing the realization flashing through his eyes, "As his wife, I can whisper things in his ear without forcing him to do anything. It's probably why Jeanine Matthews looked absolutely horrified when Eric told her he got married to me."
Four chuckled, shaking his head at me, "I'm part of your plan."
I grabbed onto his arm and gave it a reassuring squeeze, "That you are. You and Trevor will be the united front which will push Jeanine Matthews out of our faction while I keep trying to make him see things differently. We have until the final test to move forward with our plan. That means we have three months, a lot could happen in that short amount of time."
Four didn't look convinced, "That's a lot of pressure on us."
"It is." I agreed, "Well, I need to go, Eric will be back from his morning run."
"Eric went for a run?"
I shrugged a shoulder, "Well, he had to get rid of the tension somehow." I muttered, not wanting to discuss that part of my life with Four, "We'll talk later." I told him, walking away from the bridge.
When I entered the apartment I was greeted by the sight of a shirtless Eric, wearing only black joggers while pouring himself some coffee at the kitchen counter. His eyes trailed to me as I closed the door behind me. Shrugging out of my jacket I tossed it on the couch and headed straight for Eric, grabbing onto his arm I stood on my toes and kissed his cheek.
"Morning."
He merely stared down at me, "Oh, if it isn't the wife who kicked me out of our bed."
I let go of his arm and grabbed myself a cup as well so I could join him on the couch, sip some coffee and having some down time together. The thought excited me and I guess it showed because Eric laughed at me.
"It's just coffee." He muttered, heading to the couch and getting comfy. He tossed my jacket aside so I could sit beside him.
His words were sharp most of the time, but his actions showed he cared. Smiling brightly I poured myself some coffee, poured in some milk and sugar and joined my husband on the couch.
"I had plans this morning."
"I see."
I leaned into his side, more or less forcing him to throw his arm over my shoulders and holding me to him. Grinning into my cup I tried to hide just how happy I was. I couldn't hide it from Eric though.
"Don't think you being like this excuses your actions." He told me.
His chest was warm and being in his arms made me let down of my guard completely and settle in. I reached for my boots and kicked them off, giving all of my weight to Eric who took it without flinching.
"You're so warm," I whispered.
"Idiot." He muttered, he leaned in and kissed my head, "So what plans did you have at six in the morning?"
"I met up with Four at the Chasm."
"At six in the morning?" He asked me casually, he pretended not to care but I could feel his whole body tense up.
I tilted my head back to look at him, "You woke me at five thirty since I was already up I figured I might as well get my pep talk over with. Once we're going to the dining hall everyone is going to be crazy busy, I won't have time to have a one-on-one with him then."
Eric sighed, "I really can't stand your friendship with him." He sounded even more annoyed as he continued, "Not to mention your father is totally smitten with Four."
I didn't think Eric would care that my father and Four were getting along. That night I cried in the pit in front of my friends and father changed everything. They treated me like some damsel in distress they had to protect with all their might while my father mellowed down at the thought of Eric and I being together. It was a good thing yet the people who were closest to me treating me like a delicate rose annoyed the hell out of me. One moment of weakness did not mean I needed to be taken care of.
"Well, you know it doesn't matter what my father thinks. I've told you that before. I chose you over my family remember."
That made him pull away from me, "I remember." I noticed how he clenched his hand around his cup, he was definitely not happy about that, "I love you, Rose."
His sudden declaration stunned me, I knew about his feelings for me. Yet he only expressed them when it was perfectly timed. Now it was out of the blue and he didn't sound happy about it either.
"I know you do." I told him cautiously, "I love you too." I added.
He reached for me, placing his hand on my cheek while he stared into my eyes. No words were said yet I felt like this was a moment which was crucial to our future. Eric pulled away from me, placed his cup on the table and then got up.
"I need to get changed." His eyes trailed over my not so dressed state, "And so do you apparently. You went to see Four wearing only a flimsy tee?"
I glanced down at my attire and then met his gaze again, flashing him an innocent look, "I wore my jacket over it. Besides it's your tee I'm wearing which means is way too big for me so this thing can pass as a dress."
"That is hardly considered a dress." He muttered, "What am I going to do with you?"
I smiled mischievously at him, "Take me to bed before we head out?"
He laughed at me, "Then you shouldn't have kicked me out of our bed this morning. I wanted to spoil you then but you had other plans, right?" He turned on his heels and headed to our bedroom, "It's your loss."
Taking my coffee with me I followed after Eric, entering the bedroom and heading straight for our closet to find something appropriate to wear. The first day of initiation wasn't all that much work. Four would show his class around the compound, informing them about the rules during initiation and then Eric would scare the crap out of them by telling the class of people full of hope that some of them would have to leave the faction because they were simply not good enough. Dauntless-born had the day to settle in, they didn't need the tour or Eric scaring the crap out of them. So I could basically wear a flimsy dress. Eric would love that. Smiling I reached for a black tee with a V-neck and some tight pair of black pants which showed off my bum. Getting dressed I tried to ignore my husband who had a body which made me think of pleasurable scenarios which involved no clothing at all. Keeping my mind off Eric I headed to the bathroom to do my hair and makeup. I kept my hair down and did a dramatic winged line and lots of mascara. I put on some nude colored lipstick and took it with me into the bedroom. Something dark caught the corner of my eye and without a second thought, I caught it, surprised at how heavy it was. Trailing my eyes to it I couldn't help but giggle.
"You giving me your jacket?" I asked him.
"I don't know how you manage to make that body of yours look indecent even in everyday clothing. Do you purposely buy the tightest pants they have along with tops which leaves nothing to the imagination?"
There was the sarcasm I loved so much, Four was definitely affected by it even though he didn't want to admit to it.
"Most women in Dauntless dress like this." I reminded him, "You know before we got married you never had an opinion about my clothes."
"Before we got married all I wanted to do was fuck you." He didn't even blink when he said those words to me, "I never intended for us to be more than two people using each other. Now that we both established we're more than that I hate seeing other men look at you the way I looked at you back then."
Smiling I shrugged his jacket on, the jacket being too big on me yet I liked it that way. The jacket was much heavier than mine and it smelled of cigarettes and a hint of citrus which was most definitely Eric's cologne. Stepping toward my husband I grabbed onto the front of his black shirt and leaned in, covering his lips with mine. I trailed my hands over his chest, feeling him up and soaking in his warmth. Pulling away from him I walked to my bedside table and grabbed my unfinished coffee.
"Just so you know." He turned to look at me, a sharp eyebrow raised in question, "I don't want you to stop looking at me like that. I'd prefer it if you undressed me with your eyes and thought of unspeakable things you'd want to do to me."
For a second I thought I had said too much because Eric hadn't moved a muscle. Then without warning, he stalked to me, put my cup back on the bedside table and grabbed me by the hips pulling me close to him. He gave me a hard kiss and then pushed me down on the bed. I stared up at the ceiling, feeling Eric get rid of my socks and boots. When I finally figured out what was happening he had crawled on top of me, his stormy eyes darkened with lust.
"Eric." I breathed.
"I'm going to do unspeakable things to you." His eyes gleaming mischievously.
Before I could respond he grabbed me by the hips and turned me around, getting me on all fours. I got the message loud and clear, it excited me. My heart was racing while I felt my panties getting drenched. I inhaled sharply when I felt his hand press against my belly and slowly trail up, settling on my chest. With his other hand, he pushed my pants down my legs, making me tremble in anticipation. His hand slipped into my panties, a growl of approval which left him making me bite my lip.
"You feeling nostalgic, Rose?" He asked me.
The question was so weird that it took me off guard. A loud gasp left my lips when Eric without warning entered me, the hand pressed against my chest keeping me in place. He didn't give me time to get used to it, his pace was hard and rough and even though my mind needed time to process what was happening, my body responded to him. The wetness was trailing down my thighs, letting both of us know just how much I was enjoying this right now.
"Did you forget that during your initiation you came onto me like you did today?" He asked me.
I grabbed onto the sheets, clawing into them to deal with the intense pleasure I felt.
"Yet you didn't give me what I wanted back then," I whispered.
He grabbed onto my hips and slammed harder into me, making me bury my face in the sheets and cry out my first orgasm.
"We're not done yet." He told me.
It was then that I realized that they were right when they told you to be careful what you wish for. By the time Eric was done with me, I had three orgasms which wrecked my body. I had absolutely no strength left to move while I felt like I could use a shower. I could hear my husband moving around in the background but I was so out of it that I had no idea what he was doing. I barely opened my eyes when I felt him kiss my lips gently.
"I have to go, I'll see you at the dining hall for the big speech."
He left me to myself while he carried on as if nothing happened at all. I'd never taunt him again, it proved to have very dangerous consequences.
When I met up with Lauren at the dorm where the Dauntless-born were currently settling in she threw me a wary look.
"You're late." She told me sternly.
It reminded me of when I was in her class, I couldn't help but smile even though she looked ready to murder me.
"Sorry, something came up," I muttered my excuse.
She narrowed her eyes at me, she then nodded subtly and turned to her class, "We'll give you time to settle in. You know the rules you can't go back to your homes, don't go outside without a Dauntless member and just stay out of trouble. Got it?"
"Yes!" They sounded like perfectly trained soldiers already.
I raised an eyebrow when a boy approached me, he grinned at me which made me all the more suspicious, "Yes?" I asked.
"Uriah Pedrad." He told me.
"Ah, Zeke's brother." I placed my hand on his shoulder, giving it a tight squeeze, "Nice to officially meet you. You do look a lot like your brother."
He chuckled, "So I've been told."
I folded my arms across my chest, "A smarty pants huh?"
He shoved his hands in his pockets, his eyes gleaming mischievously, "Must remind you of someone huh?"
Beside me Lauren couldn't contain her laughter, she tried to cover it up with a cough. I merely smirked at the boy who looked very pleased with himself. He did remind me of someone, that someone being me that is. It meant that Zeke told him about me. I wondered what ridiculous stories Zeke told his little brother.
"Charming." I shoved my hands in the pockets of Eric's heavy military jacket, "But I have to stay impartial here, so don't make me like you too much." I warned him, jokingly.
"It's a lost cause, Mrs. Coulter. You already like me, I can tell."
Hiding my laughter by clearing my throat I narrowed my eyes at him, "That's quite enough out of you. Get ready to meet up at the dining hall for the big speech."
He chuckled, holding his hands up in defense before he turned his back to me, heading back to his friends.
"He's a lot like Zeke huh," Lauren remarked.
"That he is." I turned to her, "This is going to be so difficult." I whispered to her.
"Oh, you showing me your softer side, Mrs. Coulter?"
The sarcasm didn't go unnoticed by me, Uriah calling me that had been to mock me if Lauren started to do the same no doubt about it that others would pick up on it too. It felt like being in initiation all over again. Sighing I looked away from the smirking woman.
"Never mind."
She gave me a playful shove against the shoulder, "We're not Candor, Rose. We don't have strict lines between what's right and what's wrong. You're a great example of that. Did Eric and Four stay impartial when it came to you?" She asked.
I shook my head.
"There you have it. Just do the best you can."
I smiled at her, "You're actually a great instructor." I told her.
"You are getting soft on me now." She teased me.
I turned to the class, speaking up loud and clear, "We'll see you in the dining hall in twenty minutes." I ordered and then left the dorm together with Lauren, "I have to meet up with Max."
Leaving Lauren's side I made my way to the leader's quarter, knowing Max was preparing his speech together with Trevor. As I glanced at my watch I figured Eric and Four were wrapping things up with the transfer class. Knocking on Max'door I entered and closed the door quietly behind me, taking in the sight of Max and Trevor having an amiable conversation, the speech completely forgotten. Then again it was nothing new to Max, no doubt he could come up with something without being a stickler for the rules.
"Ah, Rose. Glad you could join us." Max greeted me, gesturing to the empty chair next to Trevor, "Are the Dauntless-born all settled in?"
"Yes, there wasn't much to it." I admitted to him, sitting down next to Trevor, "So you are all set up for the speech?" I asked.
Max chuckled, "There isn't much to it, you see."
I shared a smile with Trevor, I figured that kind of attitude wasn't rare in Dauntless. Most people with enough confidence liked to challenge those around them.
"You look tired," Trevor told me.
Feeling self-conscious about my appearance I brushed my hair back behind my ear, my eyes trailing away from Trevor curious gaze, "I had an early morning." I told him.
Trevor nodded, keeping his words to himself. After discussing the schedule of the initiation classes this week we made our way to the dining hall.
After Max gave his speech a few people lingered in the dining hall to finish up dinner. I spotted Four sitting at a table, quietly eating his food. I noticed that our friends hadn't joined him, there were people I hadn't seen before sitting with him. Making my way through the crowd I took a seat beside him, causing Four to look up at meet my gaze.
"Drinks after?" I asked him, "I need it." I muttered.
He nodded, "You and me both." He muttered, "I'm sure Zeke and Michael can join us as well."
"Great." I whispered, "You can tell me all about your concerns." I jokingly added.
He smirked in response. I scooted closer to Four when Eric suddenly sat down beside me, taking up a lot of space. Both Four and I stared at him in utter confusion. He never did that before. I was unsure how to respond to it, thankfully Eric spoke up first.
"Ready to head home?" He asked me.
I shook my head at him, "No, I'm having drinks with Four and the others." I told him, his usual drinking person was no longer with us due to my selfish reasons so I felt bad not to include him, "You wanna come with?" I asked him.
Eric's eyes trailed to Four and then shifted back to me, "Pass." He told me, he then leaned in and kissed me, "See you tonight then." I watched him leave and let out a sigh of relief. I did feel bad for Eric not having his drinking buddy around anymore, but I was also relieved that he didn't come with to have drinks with my friends. It would just become awkward since they were more or less civil with each other to please me.
"That was odd." Four told me.
I smiled at him, "He's more settled."
"I can tell." He gave me a pointed look, "So you might succeed after all."
I bumped my shoulder against his arm, feeling content that things were more peaceful right now. If I could make Eric turn against Jeanine Matthews we'd have a bright future ahead of us.
