I need to beg all kinds of forgiveness for this chapter. I know you're thinking my chapter notices are getting like SPAM and I would understand if you took me off 'let me know when there's a new chapter' because I've made your computer/phone ding a bunch.

I had to get this out of the way - and by that I mean - - I had this image in my head and want so very much for it to work. It's a bit over the top and for that I'm sorry. But this is how I saw it happening and I had to have it happen so I could get the Bering's plane to stop circling JFK airport.

So if you don't want to read/post about this - I totally understand.

There will only be one happy person I fear about this chapter.

Remember - fast ='s mistakes so expect them. You know who I mean.

Those Who Reign

Irene was right to have faith in Helena of course. Helena had spent so many years learning with her mind and brain that it took her awhile to figure out where the real learning took place – in her heart. Myka was the perfect tutor for these lessons. Myka was less experienced in love and yet, she was the key to the lock on Helena's heart. She was the patience that Helena lacked, the kindness Helena didn't trust and the warmth that Helena didn't believe existed for her anymore. Myka made Helena feel loved.

Myka was learning to trust herself because one of the greatest minds in the world was in love with her. And not just in love, but desperately in love with her. She felt it in Helena's touch – it was gentle and yet wanting. Myka knew Helena loved her because of the way she looked at her across a room and how she stood by her side, even though so many others wanted to be by Helena. Helena made Myka feel chosen.

Myka calmed down about the plan for Helena to draw the gang members out the more Helena talked about it. She had spoken at length to Pete and Jane about it and while she didn't like it any better, she began to understand the purpose. Myka spent her days trying to keep busy at work, and her nights busy with holding onto Helena.

By Sunday morning, everything was in place.

Tommy had leaked to the gang the route Helena took through the park on her runs. Members of the mob were instructed on what to do. Joey met with Hector in jail, using code to tell him his instructions were being followed. Only one thing bothered him when he heard that Tommy Boy was helping them out. He knew bad when he saw it, and he didn't see it in Tommy. He pressed Joey to follow him and when he told him he visited a girl in Bayridge – Hector wanted to know more. Eileen never knew that someone followed Tommy to the office the day he met with Helena. And that the same guy saw Eileen come out of the building that night. He overheard another girl talking to her about how important she was to the boss – the woman they were out to get. Joey reported all of this back – and became a very important part of Hector's plan. It also helped that Joey had a cousin working as a computer tech in the same precinct as Jane. As quiet as they were about the sting, that amount of armor and hardware ordered meant something was up.

Pete and Steve were among the many Wells Security team members that would be in the park that morning. Helena was to run her route as usual. There would be people in the park for the holiday festivities. Thanksgiving was only days away and people were taking advantage of the warmer than usual weather. On one part of the run, there was a small bridge creating an overpass. This is the place Jane and the teams were certain the gang members would appear. It was one of the few locations that offered hiding places until Helena arrived.

The plan was for Helena to leave her townhouse and proceed into the park. Wells Security people were walking throughout the planned route. Everyone was to stay away from the bridge area so they didn't scare the gang members off. They expected about twenty-five in total.

Myka grabbed Helena that morning and held her. "Please, please promise me you will do as they tell you," Myka begged.

Helena promised she would. The plan was simple enough and Helena understood the many facets of the operation.

"I love you, Helena," Myka said kissing her inside the hallway of the townhouse.

"I love you, too Myka," Helena assured her. Finally Myka let her go and out the door Helena went. A police officer was inside the house with Myka because she insisted on being able to hear the chatter of the cops inside the park.

Twenty minutes later, when Helena was deep inside the park and on track, the gang members started to assemble and gather at the point they felt was safest for their confrontation. They were instructed to 'rough her up' and if that included breaking some bones, so be it. They had to be fast because it was daylight. This they were told was part of their initiation into the gang. That meant – they were new recruits.

The plan went off without a hitch. The gang members moved in, the cops descended and the cops outside the park all high fived each other. Myka finally let out a breath and walked outside to the van where Jane was sitting – overseeing the entire operation.

And then it happened.

Joey appeared in a cop's uniform that his cousin got him and went unnoticed. He went up to Helena and told her this:

"You fell for it Wells. These kids here are recruits. We had nothing to lose in giving them up to the cops. The real prize? That young assistant of yours – the more experienced members of my gang got her over by the meadow and if you don't go there alone, they're gonna hurt her. So you best be making your exit quietly or I will tell them to act fast. And by fast – I mean do as they please with her," he said.

Helena stared at the man and only as he leaned in, see he was not a cop. She wanted to say something – to anyone – but they were busy rounding up the gang members. He put a phone up to her ear and she heard a young woman scream. Helena took off like a bat out of hell.

Jane was just hugging Myka and telling her it was okay. Helena's expected emergence from the park was momentary. The golf cart that was to bring her out called Jane. "Where was she?" they asked.

"What do you mean, where is she?" Jane shouted into the phone.

"She's not here. Nowhere," is what the cop answered.

Amidst the confusion of moving the gang members out, no one saw Helena leave.

"FIND HER!" Jane screamed into the walkie-talkie.

"We are getting reports that more gang members entered the east side of the park fifteen minutes ago," a squad car reported.

"We have no one on the east side," Jane yelled to the other cops on the phones. "MOVE THEM!" she commanded of the foot patrol. There were no cars in Central Park that could cover the various pathways Helena could have taken.

A voice inside Myka's head screamed "I TOLD YOU SO" before she panicked. "Think Myka, think," she told herself. If Helena was in danger – she would feel it. If she could just clear her head…..

"Listen to me carefully, Jane," Myka said pulling the cop by her raincoat.

"Don't go all girlfriend on me now," Jane said thinking Myka was getting hysterical.

"Listen to me! I have to go inside that park – I can find her, but I have to be in there to find her," Myka said.

"O…K, I'll get a cop to ….," Jane said believing in a woman's intuition. Intuition was amateur play compared to what Myka had.

"I want that," Myka said pointing and Jane hesitated for a second before Myka pulled sharply on her coat. "Now."

Jane nodded to the cop to allow Myka to take it.

Helena knew now from the uniform on Joey that Hector had inside help. Inside the police force. That meant they knew the set up and would use anything they had to lure Helena to another site where the real gang members waited. They were smart enough to threaten that it was Eileen because Helena's anger made her move without question. Helena's legs carried her through the crowds of people coming at her who were headed to see what all the excitement was over by the bridge.

Off in the distance was a group of men and when Helena descended the hill, she could see a woman huddled at the feet of some of the men. Within seconds, Helena was near them and threatened that if they did anything to harm the girl, she would …kill them. The woman stood up, pulled back the hooded sweatshirt …and laughed in Helena's face. She was Hector's girlfriend and she had a message for Helena. She was to take the first swing at Helena and when she did - in spite of Helena's surprise and relief, the Brit reached out, grabbed her arm, and twisted it until the woman screamed out in pain.

The men called out and now they started to surround Helena. They held onto Helena so that the woman could take another swing. Until they heard it –

"GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU BITCH!"

And then -

The sound of a horse neighing! There on the hill behind them was a huge black horse with his ears back, his front legs up, and his head flailing. The rider brought him back down to a charge- leaning low behind him as the animal moved down the hill and at the group. He wasn't stopping. The men ran in all different directions. Hector's girlfriend fainted. The only one to stand still was Helena. She knew enough about equestrians to know this was a professional. They obviously knew how to handle the massive beast and so Helena stood waiting.

She did not expect the outstretched hand to be …Myka's.

"Myka!" Helena said – overwhelmed to see her there.

Without a word, Myka pulled her up onto the horse and helped her get behind her. "I've got you, Helena," Myka said.

Helena held onto Myka's waist, her arms around her holding tightly, her head resting on Myka's back. Myka pulled the reins and moved swiftly back through the meadow and out of the park. It wasn't until they were surrounded by Wells Security did Myka dismount and help Helena off the horse.

"Myka, how did you know where to find her?" Jane asked relieved they were safe.

"We're connected that way, aren't we Helena?" Myka said pulling Helena in to hold her.

"Indeed we are," Helena whispered.

Think of my work as practice for the holiday company that comes and doesn't leave.
