I want to apologize profusely for leaving this for so long but I hate leaving things unfinished so we're gunna get it done! Enjoy!
I wake up what must be a few hours later and I feel much better. Tobias was right, as usual. I stretch and stand, only then realizing that Tobias is no longer in his bed with me. I won't lie, I'm kind of disappointed.
"Hey you're awake, perfect timing." I can't help but smile as I turn around to see Tobias standing behind the counter and drinking a glass of water.
"Hey! What time is it?" I ask him. I would hate to have slept through the Dauntless born moving into the dorm.
"It is a little bit after twelve but there's still time for you to get lunch if you want."
"Oh my goodness food, yes! I am so hungry!" Tobias laughs,
"As I seem to recall you were pretty much always hungry/"
"And nothing has changed." I say cheekily. "Lets go!" I make to move toward the door when suddenly Tobias grabs me from behind, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"No kiss first?" He whines. I laugh and kiss him loudly on the cheek.
"To food!." I grab his hand and lead him to the door.
"You look." I say and Tobias opens the door and peers out.
"All clear, lets go."
We head down the hallway walking a short distance apart from each other. I'll be glad when we won't have to hide 'us' anymore. For lunch is my new favorite food ever, hamburgers! Christina is there with Will and Al so I sit down with them and practically inhale two hamburgers. As I look around I notice that the three of them are more subdued than usual. It makes we wonder how their fear simulations went.
"Hey, are you guys ok?" I ask lightly. They all nod but Will is the only one to speak up.
"I've spent my mornings in better ways in the past." he says and I can't help but crack a smile.
"I agree with that statement!" I say and Christina giggles. I'm glad. I don't want them to spend too much time thinking about whatever happened to them this morning. Heck, I'm trying to forget it even happened myself!
"So what do you think its going to be like with the Dauntless born moving in?" Al asks. I shrug my shoulders because I honestly haven't really thought about it that much.
"Hopefully it will be a little bit more fun and maybe we'll meet some new cool people to join our club." Christina says.
"Our club?" I ask kind of confused. Christina rolls here eyes at me which I don't really appreciate.
"Yeah. We're the cool kids club. Duh." She says completely straight faced. We stare at each other for a moment before we both start laughing. It strikes me then just how happy I am to be here, even if some aspects of it kind of suck. At least I have some really great friends.
"Ahem." Christina and I stop laughing and look up. Glowering at us is To- well Four I guess at the moment.
"Yes Four?" I ask.
"Back to the dorms to meet the Dauntless born." he commands before turning and walking away. I'd like to say I didn't check him out as he left but… I'd be lying.
When we get back to the dorm its practically chaos. The Dauntless Born are all moving around fighting over the empty beds and leaving their stuff everywhere. Lauren is standing near the door watching the mayhem with a bored look on her face. When we all walk in she just barely nods in our direction as acknowledgment.
"Listen up!" Lauren shouts and all motion in the dorm ceases.
"Say hello to your new roommates." she says with a smile. The first to talk is of course Uriah.
"What up buddies?" He comes over and puts one arm across my shoulder and the other across Christina's. I can't help but laugh.
"Hey Uriah, settling in well?" I ask.
"Oh you know." he says with a wink and that's the only response I get.
"Finish moving in, then you have the day to yourselves." Tobias demands before he turns around and leaves with Lauren following him. The majority of us spend the next hour or so just hanging out in the dorm sharing stories and getting to know each other. Uriah is a riot and I can't help but hope that he makes it through initiation along with Marlene. She's hilarious as well and I can't help but thing that she and Uriah are together, or at least should be. Hmm I should make a bet with Christina.
We're still talking and laughing when the door suddenly flies open and we all jump. I'm expecting it to be Tobias but its actually Zeke standing there with a giant smile.
"What up little brother?" he practically yells. Yep, he and Uriah are definitely brothers.
"We're gunna go on a bit of an adventure if anyone wants to come along." Zeke gives us all a challenging grin but I don't miss the mischievous gleam in his eye.
"Who's we?" Uriah asks.
"Oh you know, people. Move out!" with that he turns and goes back out the door but sticks his head back in. "By the way, if you have a fear of heights theeeeen you probably don't wanna come." his head disappears again. We all look around at each other before Uriah lets out a shout of joy.
"Yeah buddy! Let's go!" he jumps up and grabs Marlene and Christina by the hand dragging them toward the door. I follow them quickly along with Will and a couple of Dauntlessborn that I can't remember the names of. I walk out of the door with everyone else and notice the group of people outside waiting for us. Zeke is there holding the hand of a pretty girl with fiery red hair and green eyes while about seven people behind him are chatting.
"Is that everyone?" Zeke asks and when Uriah nods he shouts "To the train." before running off with the rest of us trailing after him. We're all standing next to the tracks waiting for the train when suddenly Tobias appears.
"Four! What a pleasant surprise, I didn't think you did this anymore." the red headed girl exclaims.
"Well somebody has to catch you guys, right Shauna?" he replies with a smile. My stomach flutters at his words. Why would we need to be caught? I don't get a chance to dwell on this information though as right then the train is spotted down the tracks and before I know it I'm in a car and we're speeding away to who knows where.
Before long we're instructed to jump off and we all manage it without incident. As we begin walking down Michigan Avenue, Tobias appears beside me.
"So Tris, do you have any idea what you've volunteered for?" he asks with a glimmer in his eye. I decide to be honest, since there's no reason to pretend otherwise.
"No not really I just kinda followed Uriah to be honest. Why? Should I be concerned?" I look up at him, searching for the answer there but all I see is suppressed humor. Tobias laughs before jogging away from me and towards Zeke. Well then, he's unhelpful.
There must be a hundred thoughts running through my head when all of a sudden we're standing in front of the Hancock building, the tallest building north of the bridge. Oh boy, is the only thought in my head now.
"Forward ho!" Zeke hollars but Shauna smacks the back of his head.
"Don't call me names!" she playfully yells before pushing him and running ahead into the building. The rest of us follow her into a large elevator. Its packed tight when the doors close and Zeke pushes the button for the one hundredth floor. I look around and realize that Tobias is no longer with us. When did he disappear? I wiggle a bit and manage to poke Zeke in the shoulder. He turns his head toward me and I ask where Four went.
"You'll see him soon, don't worry about it." Is the only response I get. Why is everyone being so cryptic today! Ugh its freakin frustrating!
After who knows how many minutes we reach the one hundredth floor and pile out of the elevator before being hit by strong gusts of wind. The ceiling has a giant hole in it with a ladder leading up to it. Zeke starts to climb it and the rest of us follow him to the roof. The view is unbelievable and breathtaking and not just because of the biting wind trying to blow me off the roof. Luckily for me Uriah and Will are on either side of me blocking some of the wind. As I watch, Zeke walks over to a pole that has a thick steel cable attached and picks up a black harness from a wooden box underneath it, attaching it to a pulley hanging from the cable. Shauna steps right up to him and he helps her into the harness. When she is all strapped in she's basically laying on her stomach with a couple of straps across her back, shoulders, and legs. I know whats coming but I still feel my stomach drop when Zeke gives Shauna a quick kiss before shoving her forward and off the edge of the building.
I scream is caught in my throat as she hurtles away but when nothing horrible happens I release a sigh and can't help but smile. That looks freakin awesome!
"Who's next?" Zeke shouts above the wind and I'm standing in front of him before I make a conscious decision to do so.
"I knew you were brave Tris." he says so only I can hear as he straps me in. I nod but don't speak. My throat has closed up and my heart is pounding from both fear and adrenaline. I'm now all strapped in and I feel Zeke pull be back a bit and I close my eyes as he pushes me and I go head first off the building. My stomach drops and I can't breathe for a moment but when I open my eyes and look around I feel nothing but giddy happiness. I throw my arms out to the side and shout for joy. I have never felt so exhilarated in my life! Not even when I jump into the net. I'm weightless, flying, free. It's over quickly but at the same time feels like it lasts forever before I'm close to the ground and see two people waiting for me. I can see Shauna's red hair and I realize the other person must be Tobias. A few minutes more and I have come to a stop above them.
"Unstrap yourself!" Shauna calls to me. Quickly I undo some of the straps and drop about twenty feet. I don't have a chance to yell before I feel Tobias and Shauna's arms beneath me.
"How was that?" Shauna asks with a smile.
"Amazing, terrifying, wonderful, exhilarating." I laugh, "Thanks for catching me, I didn't completely think through the part of dropping twenty feet to the ground." Shauna smiles before replying,
"Of course we caught you, we're Dauntless and we take care of each other." I'm blown away but what she has said and can't keep the smile off my face. I've never felt so wanted and like I belong before. A shout causes me to look up and I see Uriah coming towards us hooting and hollering with glee. One by one everyone comes down from the cable and we catch them, using our arms as nets. Zeke comes down last and after we catch him he praises all of us before telling us that this was our secret and to keep it to ourselves. We're all in high spirits when we get back to Dauntless and I can't help but feel that I want to be with these people forever. Us initiates head back to the dorm laughing and joking before falling in bed exhausted. It was a long, long day and I only just remember that the next few weeks will be filled with more fear simulations before I fall into an uneasy sleep.
