Chapter 37: Hope Decays

Kol's POV~

My blood trickled from my tight fist, trying to stay calm around those who released Silas was difficult. It surprised me that Jane could unite both my family and 'hers', despite being enemies through and through.

Damon came storming into the room his face filled with concern, I frowned. There was no James? As I looked over to Julien his expression changed.

"James is missing too" Damon sighed and tossed his phone to the side "And I can't get in touch with Katherine"

We all frowned except for Elena and the Salvatore's, what did they know what we didn't? Nik finally spoke up, he took a threatening step towards them.

"What has Katerina got to do with this?" He growled

"She stole the cure…" I growled viciously before kicking over the small table.

"You should've killed her when you had the chance Nik!" I spat before running my hand through my hair, this was unbearable.

Caroline and Bonnie then arrived; I rolled my eyes before flopping back down beside my sister. For the first time in 1000 years she took my hand lightly and looked into my eyes.

"She'll be alright Kol, we'll get her back"

I looked down and breathed deeply before storming out, no-one even bothered going after me. I stood outside and closed my eyes; I had to think of a way to fix this.

Elena's POV~

We all watched as he left, none of us knew what to do or say. Time was running out and we didn't know what to do.

"I can do a protection spell" Bonnie spoke up, her arms wrapped around her grimoires. "But there will be a side effect…" She sighed and walked over to the table that we all sat around "I used it when I protected Professor Shane, he couldn't die, and his pain went onto someone else"

"I'll do it" Jeremy stepped forward "If I die then I'll come back"

"It's not that simple Jer, your ring only works on humans, and you're supernatural" The defeated look in his eyes broke my heart. I breathed deeply and rubbed my forehead. "Even if I tried to use it so it affects you who knows if it would work, last time it was an accident…I don't even know if it will work"

"I have a better plan" We all spun round at Kol's voice "Locate her, I'll go get her myself" Rebekah's mouth dropped as she jumped up.

"Kol he will kill you!" I looked over to Damon who had been watching me.

"I know…" He whispered before looking at his sister. "But what else can we do?" Klaus looked at his younger brother in disbelief, we all did.

"Kol please" Kol shook his head at Rebekah

"This is the only way Bekah" She bit into her lip with defeat.

Jane's POV~

Silas frowned as he looked down at his watch; I guessed that my hour of life was almost up. He looked towards me with confusion.

"I thought this would work" He stormed towards me and lifted me onto my feet, my heart began to race. He grabbed onto my neck and began to squeezed, I whimpered as he begun to squeeze the life out of me.

"Please…" I gasped as a tear rolled over my cheek.

Elena's POV~

We all frantically looked around where she was meant to be, but she wasn't here. The air was bitterly cold, and the night was eerily quiet. I breathed deeply as minutes continued to pass us by, where was she?

"Where's Kol?" Klaus asked as stood beside Caroline, no-one replied. Damon and Caroline were more quiet than usual, but I didn't bother questioning, I was too preoccupied. I pulled out my phone and quickly dialled Jeremy's number.

"Jeremy she's not here" I sighed in frustration, unable to control my gush of emotions I began to cry. Only Damon's arm around my shoulder comforting me slightly.

-What do you mean she's not there!- I sniffed loudly and wiped away my tears

"Get Bonnie to redo the spell…" I looked at the time and began to cry again "What if she's died Jer?"

-We'll get her back, I'll call you back soon"

Bonnie's POV~

Jeremy watched me closely as he hung up the phone. I couldn't help but feel guilty as I quickly looked away from him, it was now obvious that I had something to do with this.

"What have you done Bonnie?" He looked at me with disbelief "She's not there" I looked away from him.

"I did what I had to do…"

"What to get her killed!"

"She'll be fine Jer; if all of you went to her rescue she'd have gotten killed!"

"Kol went by himself?" Jeremy frowned

"He asked me to lie"

*10 minutes before*

The distance from 'A' to where you'd be, it's only finger-lengths that I see.

Kol stared at me intensely; I knew he wanted to get me by myself. I turned towards Elena and Jeremy that lingered by my side, with my best act I lied to their faces.

"I need you both to go to my house and collect another of my grimoires, and look for the bracelet Professor Shane gave me…It's important" They nodded and began to walk away, I glanced towards Kol so he knew I was getting rid of them. I then turned to Caroline and Damon, unlike the others they knew something was up.

"We'll go find the candles" Caroline then walked out, dragging the reluctant Damon with her.

"Can you leave me and the Bennett witch for a moment" Kol bluntly turned to his siblings and Julien, of course they soon walked off in the direction where Caroline went. He appeared by my side. "You knew I needed to speak to you?" He raised an eyebrow, I chuckled lightly.

"Of course, why else would you stare at me awkwardly" I opened my grimoires

"I need you to do something for me…the others can't know where she is"

"You want to save her yourself, understandable. It's too dangerous for her if everyone went" I sighed "As soon as he saw everyone he'd know we don't have it and kill her"

"So will you help me?" His eyes were filled with fear; I'd never expect an original to be like this, especially Kol. I nodded and pulled out a knife.

"This will be the last time I do expression" I held out my palm waiting for his hand. "As you're the one who will go after her this is the only way it'll work" I quickly sliced his palm, we both watched as his blood dropped onto a laid out map. I scrunched my eyes closed as I mumbled quietly, upon opening them I noticed his blood move across the paper, it stopping after a few moments. Kol ran his finger across where she was, he breathed deeply before looking into my eyes.

"Thank you"
