Chapter 37: Erotic Outburst

True to his word, Kaiba spent all of Friday evening locked in his office, hard at work. He only took a break for dinner and hadn't appreciated when Yami tried to entice him into spending more time together. The good thing was that it allowed Yami plenty of time to finish his homework, but he soon grew bored. Watching TV mindlessly didn't suit him and Yami took a shower simply to have something to do. As the hours passed, eventually Yami gave up on waiting for Kaiba to emerge and went to sleep instead.

Yami had planned on waking up early on Saturday and giving Kaiba the best kind of wake up call, but things didn't exactly go according to plan. Kaiba wasn't in the bed by the time Yami woke up and it was well into the afternoon.

Even during lunch, it was clear that Kaiba's mind was solely focused on his work. It was fascinating to see Kaiba so caught up in business mode, but it was also incredibly frustrating to Yami, who was aching to be with him.

Dinner was marginally better, but Kaiba's mood went from distracted to dark rather quickly. Yami did what he could, but he still felt like it wasn't helping. It was enough to prevent Yami from trying to tempt Kaiba once again.

The fact that Yuugi called Kaiba's phone during their walk back from dinner to check on how Yami was doing also hadn't done anything to help the situation. "Why the fuck does he keep calling me?" Kaiba growled as they continued making their way back to the dorms.

"I don't have a phone of my own, otherwise I'd just have him call me," Yami explained, taking the anger in stride as a result of Kaiba's irritation over whatever work problems were plaguing him.

"What do you mean you don't have your own phone?" Kaiba demanded, even though the logical part of his brain was reminding him that if Yami had his own phone, he would know the number by this point.

"Jii-chan doesn't have the extra money to support both aibou and I anymore than he already does and Ouran won't let me have a job to earn my own money to buy stuff, so I have to share," Yami said with a shrug. "It's why I'm still using aibou's computer and clothes."

Kaiba was about to comment about how stupid that was, but he managed to reign in his temper from lashing out at someone who didn't deserve it. "Oh," was all Kaiba could say to that.

"It's fine, I really don't mind," Yami continued, although Kaiba didn't understand how that was possible other than it was just what the former spirit was used to doing. "I feel bad enough as it is that Jii-chan has done as much as he has for me."

"That's going to be problematic when you have a research paper to do at the same time as Yuugi for the same class," Kaiba pointed out with a frown, not liking the idea of Yami's classwork to suffer for such a reason.

"We'll figure it out whenever it comes to that," Yami said as they entered the dorms and headed up to Kaiba's room once more.

Saying nothing more on the subject, Kaiba locked himself in his office as soon as they were back in his room. Yami decided to try and read the book on the table to pass the time and soon was engrossed in the story.

Thus it came as a complete surprise to hear Kaiba throw open his door and storm into the living room a few hours later. Kaiba's angry agitation initially made Yami think he had somehow done something wrong and he started to instinctively apologize. However, Kaiba started kissing Yami passionately into silence and it caused the former spirit to make a confused noise of pleasure as he gave it back as good as he got it. Yami didn't even pretend to understand it, but he was sure as hell enjoying it. He wanted to escalate things further, but he didn't dare given Kaiba's mood.

It helped dull the noise in Kaiba's mind, but it still wasn't enough to calm him. He paused only long enough to roughly pull Yami off the couch to stand and toss the book onto the table before he was dominating Yami's desires with harsh and demanding kisses.

It excited Yami and he didn't resist as Kaiba started to quickly strip them of their clothes as they fumbled toward the bed. Yami offered no resistance as Kaiba started to kiss along his body while prepping him. Normally Kaiba was so careful, but this time he was unrestrained as he slid into Yami and began thrusting hard. Yami had to hold back a shout when Kaiba guided his legs over his shoulders and began a harsh, unforgiving rhythm. Yami was almost bent in half as Kaiba continued his near volatile coupling and Yami couldn't get enough of it. He moaned freely as his body tried to keep pace with Kaiba's frenetic speed. It was glorious, even if Yami knew he'd probably be sore as hell later. It was totally worth it, though. Yami could already feel his body tightening up in anticipation of release and it didn't take long before he came hard with a loud cry he tried to muffle against his arm.

Kaiba didn't stop—couldn't stop—and he continued mercilessly pleasuring Yami. It was finally too much and Kaiba came hard with a shudder as he pushed in as deep as he could and finally stilled. Everything was a white haze in Kaiba's mind as he pulled out and settled against Yami's side with a heavy sigh.

Embracing Kaiba, Yami quietly asked, "Feel better now?"

"Nn," was Kaiba's only answer, which was neither a yes or a no. He felt a reprieve from the mess in his mind, but the problems still remained.

They remained in companionable silence and Yami was surprised he didn't feel like drifting to sleep. He was too busy enjoying the afterglow, even though he was concerned by Kaiba's erotic outburst. "Care to explain what that was all about?" Yami finally asked. "Not that I minded, but…"

Even though it wasn't in Kaiba's nature to divulge such things, he eventually muttered, "People are stupid."

That made Yami laugh as he pointed out, "People are always being stupid. What's new about that?"

"This is an extra kind of special stupid," Kaiba complained as he accidentally nuzzled against Yami's shoulder before he realized what he was doing.

Tightening his embrace into a hug, Yami apologized, "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault that they're idiots," Kaiba scoffed.

Laughing again, Yami agreed, "True, but I'm still sorry you have to deal with them."

"I shouldn't have taken it out on you," Kaiba sighed, annoyed by his lapse in control. He had felt the pressure of frustration building up inside of him and when combined with his irritation at not being able to spend time with Yami, it was no wonder that had been the outcome.

"Are you joking? That was fucking amazing," Yami reassured him as he ran his fingers through soft brunette hair that was slightly dampened from their exertion. "You should take your frustration out on me more often if that's the end result."

The comment finally succeeded in coaxing a chuckle out of Kaiba and it made Yami grin. "I should probably get back to it," Kaiba finally said with a heavy sigh, even though he didn't move.

"Leave it for tomorrow," Yami suggested. "Go at it fresh in the morning and it'll make more sense."

It was sound logic and for once Kaiba wasn't inclined to argue. "At the very least, we need to shower," Kaiba conceded.

Yami didn't resist as Kaiba helped him out of bed and headed for the bathroom. He was just glad that Kaiba seemed to be in a better mood now. They showered quickly and soon returned to bed and shut off the lights, with Yami snuggled comfortably against Kaiba's side with a happy sigh.

"I didn't hurt you, did I?" Kaiba finally forced himself to ask, still concerned by his previous behavior.

Kissing Kaiba's neck, Yami assured him, "I'm fine."

Holding Yami closer, Kaiba kissed his forehead out of a new instinct. "I still shouldn't have pushed you so far," Kaiba continued fretting, knowing Yami was still at less than optimum strength.

"I had all day to rest," Yami pointed out to Kaiba. "I promise, I'm really okay."

Letting the subject drop, Kaiba tried to ignore the lingering feeling.

Unsure of whether it was a good idea to ask, Yami finally decided he should. "What's your tomorrow like?"

Holding back a groan, Kaiba replied, "The same as today, unfortunately."

Feeling a little disappointed, Yami said, "Okay."

"We can still do lunch," Kaiba offered, knowing that he could take that much time off from his work at the very least.

"That's good," Yami told him, "although aibou should be back in time for dinner."

It was an unpleasant reminder that Kaiba had wasted far too much of his coveted time with Yami for work that still wasn't finished. "I'm sorry I've been so busy," Kaiba found himself apologizing, shocking them both.

"You warned me it would be this way," Yami reminded him. "It wasn't like it came as a surprise to me."

Frowning at that, Kaiba said, "Still, you would have had more fun with your friends than wasting time on my couch."

Chuckling at that, Yami reassured him, "I was exactly where I wanted to be. I needed to recover more than I needed to see them."

There was still an unusual feeling of guilt nagging at Kaiba over it for some reason. "If you're sure," Kaiba finally commented.

"Plus, I would have been mad if I had missed out on what just happened," Yami continued.

"You wouldn't have even known," Kaiba pointed out, causing Yami to laugh.

"You know what I mean," Yami replied. "Besides, at least this way I know you took breaks to eat."

It was true that Kaiba probably wouldn't have taken as much time away from work to go to the cafeteria and eat and it caused him to scowl. "I would have survived," Kaiba defended himself.

"I'm sure," Yami agreed, even though the thought made him sad.

It wasn't surprised to Kaiba when Yami yawned and he told him, "Sleep."

"Don't want to," Yami petulantly refused. "I want to keep talking to you."

Kaiba's gaze softened, even as he said, "There's plenty of time for that later."

"But not tomorrow. Or later today. You know what I mean," Yami kept correcting himself.

Relenting a bit, Kaiba found himself asking, "And what is it you want to talk about?"

"I don't know," Yami realized with a laugh. "Anything."

"You should probably be more specific if you want to have an actual conversation," Kaiba told Yami, causing him to laugh once more.

"Fine, what's it like being in Host Club?" Yami finally decided to ask.

"You know exactly what it's like since you 'saw' what happened when you were a spirit," Kaiba replied.

"I meant what is it like for you?" Yami clarified, still finding it odd that Kaiba agreed to willingly put up with Tamaki's antics.

"While it's annoying, it had so far proved useful," Kaiba answered. "It's an easy way to make important connections."

"Useful how?" Yami wanted to know.

"It brings the people with connections to me, rather than forcing me to seek them out," Kaiba explained.

"So it is basically an excuse for you to use girls to get to their parents for business?" Yami realized, somehow disappointed in the answer.

"In so many words, yes," Kaiba confirmed. "It's enough of a benefit to me to put up with those idiots a few times a week."

Deciding to get off the cynical topic, Yami asked, "I've been curious for awhile now, but why don't you get along with Kyouya?"

"His family is a rival against my medical division," Kaiba explained. "We actually have met a few times at various functions thrown by our fathers over the years and things have always been a bit icy between us as a result of their own strained relationships."

"Fathers?" Yami repeated, even as he found the rest of the information fascinating.

"My adoptive one," Kaiba replied once he realized the source of Yami's confusion. "He didn't exactly get along with anyone."

Feeling like he had wandered into a conversation that he wasn't supposed to be having, Yami could only say, "Oh." When Kaiba failed to continue talking, it made Yami feel bad for what he had inadvertently done. "I didn't mean to…"

Waving it away, Kaiba declared, "It doesn't matter now. The past is dead and buried, exactly where it should be. Don't worry about it."

It seemed weird to just gloss over the subject, but Yami didn't know what else to do. Struggling to find something to say, Yami asked, "Has Mokuba ever met Kyouya?"

"No, he stayed home for those types of events," Kaiba replied. "I was the only one that was trotted out to show off."

Yami wanted to ask why, but he got the impression that he shouldn't. Kaiba sensed Yami's dilemma and told him, "It's fine. While I still have some issues with parts of my past and I generally don't like talking about it, I'm not going to go off on you or anything for bringing it up, Yami. You saw more disturbing things during our time in the virtual world."

It was all true, but Yami said, "I guess I just feel like I'm prying into something I shouldn't."

"Which I appreciate," Kaiba told him. "But you don't have to act like I'm going to lash out at you for asking a question that's tied to my past. Worst case scenario, I just chose not to answer and move on from there."

"In my defense, you get used to get really angry with me whenever the past related to ancient Egypt was brought up," Yami pointed out to him. "I'm used to more yelling when your past is brought up."

"I'll admit, I had some problems…accepting what I thought was nonsense at that time as fact," Kaiba admitted, knowing it was a grand understatement. "That's different, though. It didn't directly involve me and my own lived experience. When it comes to my actual past, I've had years to deal with what happened."

"That makes sense," Yami finally decided, seeing the logic in Kaiba's reasoning. He wanted to continue talking, but sleepiness was starting to slow his mind. "What do you think about penguins?"

The absurdity of the random question made Kaiba laugh and Yami hummed in contentment as how it sounded from his current position. "What the hell kind of question is that?" Kaiba asked, still laughing.

"I don't know, it was the first thing that popped into my mind," Yami defended himself, but Kaiba could hear the sleep starting to take hold.

"Seriously, where the hell did you come up with that?" Kaiba wanted to know, still amused by the sheer randomness of it.

"I don't know, I'm tired," Yami said, his voice reflecting that.

"Then go to sleep," Kaiba replied.

"No," Yami refused again, stubbornly clinging to consciousness.

Still chuckling, Kaiba asked, "I suppose that means I have to answer your ridiculous question?" When Yami nodded affirmatively, Kaiba could only shake his head. "I guess they're cute, but smell bad?"

"You actually find things cute?" Yami asked in disbelief. "I figured you would say something more along the lines of, 'Worthless, like this conversation,' or something."

The comment drew another chuckle out of Kaiba, who could easily hear himself saying such a thing. "There is that, too," Kaiba agreed, mirth still coloring his tone.

Kaiba almost thought that Yami had fallen asleep when he mumbled after a long pause, "I like cats."

"I prefer them to dogs," Kaiba admitted. He knew he should be annoyed by Yami's behavior, but Kaiba was merely amused by it instead.

"Why am I not surprised?" Yami asked, but most of his words were lost in a yawn. There was another attempt at speaking, but sleep had finally claimed Yami.

Kissing Yami's forehead earned Kaiba a sleepy murmur of approval before Yami fell into total silence. Kaiba knew he should probably use the chance to escape to go do more work, but the thought was displeasing. He'd much rather stay curled up in bed with Yami and that was a startling revelation to Kaiba. The only other person that had ever mattered more than work was Mokuba, but it seemed that had finally changed. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, just a surprising one. His mind was content to bask in Yami's calming presence and Kaiba allowed it; the work could wait.

A/N: This Kaiba has a much better grasp of perspective than any of my previous Kaibas I think. It's kind of nice for a change~.

Thanks for all the well wishes with the move! Things are still kind of chaotic with trying to get settled and starting orientation soon, but it hopefully shouldn't impact updates.

NEXT CHAPTER:

"You act like I don't know what you two were doing," Yuugi complained as he continued putting his things away.

The next chapter will go up on Sunday, September 27th, so please look forward to it!
