Chapter Thirty-Three : Katie, Macey, Mack
Author's Note: hey, here's a new chapter. rereading this story has actually made me realise that I've improved my writing a shit-tonne. this story was the story that made me enjoy writing long stories instead of short meaningless stories and thanks to you guys, you've helped me believe I am actually good at it, despite how repetitive ally's character is... sorry about that. I might start writing wattpad stories - would you guys read that? idk but hope you like this :*
but hey at least it's an update that didn't take 6 years to upload.

"Hey Alls?"
"One second," she came into the kitchen, where he stood, "What?"
"Where's the cereal?"
"We forgot to buy it yesterday, there's some stuff to make pancakes in the closet," she told him, her cell pressed against her ear.
"Who's on the phone?"
"I'll tell you in a sec," and with that, she went back into the bedroom to talk to her.
Ally's POV
"So, will we finally be meeting the great Austin?"
"I'm gonna ask him, but I bet he'll say yeah, I told him about everything that happened just after going to meet mom and dad."
"We can't wait, and Mack's getting close to a boyfriend."
"Really?" After I left, Mack was just about to turn seven, and now she was thirteen - she had grown up, not to Ally's liking. She was her little sister.
"Yeah, you remember her friend Zach?"
"Yeah, they're still friends, right?"
I heard my old foster-mom laugh, "Yeah, of course. But they've started being around each other a lot more, and we've been noticing how they've been looking at each other and that's what it seems like."
"Aw, that's so cute. I can't wait to see her again. Is she doing okay?"
"I think," I said, then lowering my voice into a whisper, "Despite being a new teenager, she'll be wanting your advice about it. She's missed you a lot since last year. We all do."
"I've missed you guys so much, I talk to you three more than my biological mom and dad," I heard her smile somehow, but I did.
Katie let out a sigh of relief, "Good, we were thinking after Mack's settling into high school next year, to move to a bigger place. Not in an apartment, like a big house, we've been saving since we adopted Mack when she was about six months."
"That's great, I guess. Make sure it's close for Mack to get to Zach and school though."
"Of course, I'm not evil. Text me if Austin's coming too later, you best get asking him."
I laughed, "I will, I'll text you in like a half hour."
"Okay, I love you."
I headed back to stand next to Austin in the kitchen, "Yeah, I love you too. Bye."
. . .
"Who was that?"
Ally smiled, helping him fry the pancake by flipping it perfectly, "You know I told you about my foster homes?" At his nod, she continued, "Yeah, well you know how I said the last one was the best one? And I'm still in touch with them?"
"And they're coming?"
"No, I'm seeing them, they only live about twenty minutes from here, they moved out to New York after I went back with my biological mom and dad. It was part of the reason I came to this place," Austin took the pan, taking out the second pancake and putting it on the stack of now six - four for Austin and two for Ally.
Drowning his pancake in syrup, "Oh, okay, when are you going?"
"Uh, later today. Just for the day."
"Alright," he passed her the syrup, where she put a tiny amount of each pancake, and some on the plate to make it look good, which Austin never even knew why, "Do you want me to drive you, or are you gonna drive? Or a cab?"
"Uh, I've been thinking," she took both their plates and put them on the kitchen table, "I talk to them quite a lot, and they want to meet you. Will you?"
"I'd love to meet them, what time are we leaving?"
"Twelve-ish."
"So tell me about them, what are their names?"
"Well the little girl is thirteen now, her name's McKenzie. I think of her as my little sister, and she thinks of me as her older sister. We really connected when we were in that home together," Ally explained, eating some of her pancakes.
Austin nodded, "Yeah, so what about the parents? It was two mom's, right?"
"Yeah, one is called Katie - she's the one who has like a golden color of hair, like a mix between blonde and brown so it's like dark blonde. And the other is called Macey, and she's got light brown hair. And they're really awesome. I love them three a lot, and I talk to them a lot more than I talk to my biological mom and dad."
"So quick question, what would you call them? I mean, when you're in any foster home, would you like ever call the parents there mom? Or dad, not in this case obviously though."
"Uh, it would depend on how bad your background is for sure, how much you get on with them and how old you are makes a big impact too. I mean, like Mack, she was put in the system when she was born, as her birth mom was sixteen and didn't think of getting into the system until the day after she was born-"
"Could her birth mom not look after her properly?"
"No, she just didn't want her, which is the worst feeling in the world. To sit down in a random house, not a home. Just a house with people you don't know, and wonder why. Why you weren't good enough, it's really awful when you're eight you don't really get what's happening, but once you hit the teens, it really hits you. I wondered on end for ages why I was so different, if I didn't deserve a mom and that's why she refused the treatment."
"That's really awful, couldn't you talk to anybody?"
"No, anyway, as I was saying they all wanna meet you."
He nods again, "Awesome, so does Mack call them mom?"
"Yeah, to her she doesn't know that her mom didn't want her. So don't bring that up, okay?"
"Sure, so I'm gonna go change, I had a shower already so I'll just get changed, you've already showered?"
"Yeah, I'll change and then we can go," she put both their plates in the sink and skipped upstairs to do her hair, make-up and pick out her clothes.
Two hours and a half later, they pulled up to their house, Austin noticed how happy Ally looked. Ten times happier than when he was with her at her biological family's house, "Are you ready to meet them? Don't be nervous, they really wanna meet you."
He nodded, smiling, "Got it," he kissed her cheek and they walked up to the front door.
Austin was about to wait while Ally knocked, but she just walked in, "We're here!"
"Ally!" Mack was the first to see her, and she ran to her, hugging her tightly. "You're back!"
Laughing, Ally released the hug, "Yeah, and this is my boyfriend Austin. Austin, this is Mack."
"Hey," Mack greeted.
"Hey, I'm Austin. Great to meet you."
"I'll go get my moms," Mack said, turning away to find them.
"Nervous?"
"A little, I mean, I really want them to like me."
"They will, you make me happy - they're not like my dad or mom you've met. I promise."
He smiled, and she went on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek, "Ally!"
"Hey!" Katie rushed over to her, Macey soon following.
After hugging her, the two mothers turned to Austin, "You must be Austin, it's great to meet you."
He went to shake Katie's hand, "Put that away," she laughed, "we're huggers in this family!"
The both hugged Austin, while Ally talked to Mack about her last few months at middle school were going.
"So, how was it meeting Ally's parents?"
"Strange, our parents are friends, her dad was a bit protective, and my parents were as well. Wasn't easy, Ally told me not to be nervous here."
"Oh, there's no need to be, sweetie," Macey exclaimed, "we think of Ally like we do Mack, but we see how happy she is with you. We're happy as long as she is."
He smiled, "She makes me happy too, so we're great."
"So, was you scared meeting her parents?"
"Terrified. She was insecure of herself when she met mine too."
Macey nodded, "Yeah, because of what happened, Ally's got a lot she'd jump at the opportunity to change about herself. And I think you might be able to be the guy to change that -you've stuck around a while."
"Yeah," he agreed, as Ally came over with Mack, standing next to Austin so he put his arm around her.
"Hey," she smiled, he kissed her temple softly until someone finally spoke again.
"So, let's go on to the front room and catch up. Tea, coffee, cocoa I'm guessing?"
Ally laughed, "I'll have a cocoa, Austin - cocoa?" At his nod, she continued, "Yeah, two for us."
"Mack, honey what do you want?"
"Just a soda."
"Okay, two cocoas, one soda and two coffees, Mace," Katie told her, smiling as she sat down.
"So, Austin, how's the studio?"
"You mean my job?"
"Yes, Ally told me you're a singer and working on an album," she began, "how's it going?"
"They decided I'm bringing out an album and then going on tour a month after, so I'm trying to tempt Ally to come with. Unsuccessfully so far."
Katie laughed, "That's great, I'm sure you'll come around, won't you Alls?"
"It depends on work. Autumn might need me."
"There's a thing, it's called Skype," Mack remarked.
"Oh shut it, anyway, how's Zach?"
"Fine."
"Moms told me that you guys are getting closer."
Mack nodded, "Yeah, I guess. His mom had the baby a few weeks ago, so he's been helping her a lot."
"So. Have you gotten any friends that are girls yet, or any other friends?"
"No, they all still think I'm weird."
"I think that's their loss," Austin told her, "I've known you for five minutes and you seem awesome."
"You too."
Ally's POV
Looks like they're all getting along great, "So, Austin, was it bad meeting Ally's parents? Scary?"
"Yeah, but I think it was because they were the people who I'd known to be the perfect parents, you know because Ally told me about everything after we got back. I thought she had the perfect upbringing with parents always there, the only bad thing that happened was that she got bullied... but apparently not."
Macey laughed, "Yeah, it wasn't their fault, but Ally didn't deserve to have a father figure who was neglecting her, so she was put into the system. They're some bad people you get put with, but sometimes you get put with the nice ones. Luckily, Ally got one or two good long-term homes; but she also got the worst you could get too."
"It wasn't the worst, I mean, for a while it was good," I defended.
Austin took her hand, "Don't feel bad for saying that, it was bad. That guy did that to you, and you didn't do anything to deserve that. I swear," he told me, kissing our hands.
"Anyway, how long is it until you guys are thinking about marriage?"
"Me and Kate?"
"Yeah, it's legal here now, I wanted to mention it on the phone, but it never felt too right."
Macey looked at Kate, "We've never discussed getting married, I don't think she wants to after what she went through to get separated from her boyfriend - she had to change so many accounts and everything."
Austin nodded, "Hey, could I use your bathroom?"
"Yeah, sure, Ally, can you show him? I don't know how to explain it."
I nod, keeping my grip on his hand and leading him down the hall, "Hey Alls?"
"Hm?"
"Do you like these guys more than your parents?"
"As mean as it sounds, yeah. I'm so much more in touch with Mace and Kate - even me and Mack talk on the phone weekly. So, as awful a daughter it makes me, yes. I still have a grudge against my dad for not even acting like a good dad when my mom was sick. I'm the worst daughter in the whole world, aren't I?"
Austin shook his head, wrapping his arms around her, and kissing the top of her head, "No, no you're not. You are the strongest person I've ever met, okay? You're not awful, you're amazing. Yes, your biological parents couldn't look after you and you got new parents, some bad but some amazing. It's okay you like them because they've been there more than they have."
"Really?"
"Yes, I'd be the same, I love my mom more than my dad. That's wrong, but my mom's always been closer, and my dad hasn't. That is wrong of me, but it's okay, it's just how I feel."
"And you don't feel guilty?"
"Of course. I once cried in front of my Pops when I was about ten because of it, and did the same thing when I was eighteen to my mom. My dad never found out, if you don't want to hurt them, don't tell them. Just be happy with Katie, Macey and Mack. The seem really awesome, and I'm glad you spent some time with them when you were growing up."
Ally nodded, "I'll go back down, leave you to the bathroom," she smiled, beginning to walk away, only for him to catch her wrist.
He smiles too, "Before you do," he leans into her, kissing her lips softly.
She laughs against his lips, leaning against the wall as he walked her back into it.
Leaning away, he hugged her, "Thanks for bringing me here, so seem so much more as ease here than when we were at your mom and your dad's place."
"Thanks for coming, you too. You seem a lot less stressed here, I'm gonna go now I'll see you in a minute."
Ally went back into the room where Katie and Macey had disappeared from, so she sat next to Mack, "So, what's new?"
"Nothing."
"Dude, I'm gone for a while and I'm your big sister, I can know what's going on."
"Well, at school, there's this new girl. She's friends with Zach, which is how I know her - and uh, she's being fostered by these parents."
"Which ones?"
"Your old ones."
Ally's face dropped, paling immediately, "Wa-wha-which ones?"
"Not those ones, don't worry. It's those ones you had before them."
"Angie?"
"Yeah, obviously Juliet's moved out now, but it was nice to know somebody else is in that system."
"Yeah, I wish I had someone in the system to talk to at my school, I only had the kids I was in the homes with. So, do you like her?"
Ally's POV
"She seems nice, but to be honest I think Zach's buttering her up to me because he likes her," Mack admitted, maybe there was more to it?
I nodded, "And, what do you think about that?"
"About what?"
"Him liking her."
"Oh, I don't particularly like it, it sucks."
"Why's that?"
She shook her head, "It's stupid."
"I bet it's not," I say, taking her hand, "what is it?"
"Ever since I turned eleven I think, I always though he would leave eventually because he deserves a normal girl, with a normal home life as a best friend."
"I'm back!" Austin exclaims, sitting next to us.
In that moment, so do Katie and Macey.
"One sec, Mack," I go over to Austin and ask him if I could talk to Mack for five minutes while he stays with Katie and Macey, he nods which is a good sign.
Mack looks at me strangely, "Hey, I gotta go talk to Mack about something for a second, we'll be right back," I took Mack's hand and dragged her to her bedroom and sat on her bed.
"What was that? You left Austin there with people he's just met!"
"He said it was fine, it's okay," I smile, then put on a serious face, "I brought you up here for a reason, you are not ordinary. You are not abnormal either. Ýou're special, but you're not different to the other kids or teenagers who have biological parents in their house. You have a family, you were put in the system because your biological mom couldn't look after you-"
"No, she just didn't want me, my mom told me."
"Exactly, right there. Mom."
"Macey and Katie are your moms, and they are your parents, Zach doesn't derserve any less than you because you are pretty damn amazing. He won't leave, I've had trouble with this with me and Austin. I'm coming to terms with knowing he won't leave me now, Zach won't leave. Is there a reason you think he will?"
She looked down, but I kept my eyes on her, not tearing the gaze, "Mack?"
"I think by him liking this girl, he'll get bored of the girl he's know since he was 3."
"You don't know how wrong you are," I told her, "Mckenzie Madison Young, you are somebody I could trust my life with. And I know for a fact that Zach would say the same thing; he is your best friend, the only one who took his time to get to know you and not judge you for who the other kids labelled you as. And whether you want him as your best friend or something more later on, he'll always be there - in your life."
Mack looked up, "Yeah, but this girl is so much better than me, how can I compete with that?"
"I've learnt that there will always someone smarter; someone prettier; someone we think is better than us, but that's because we're used to ourselves and not anyone else. We have to not particularly like ourselves in this world which is the dumbest thing ever. I do it, I still do but Zach sees you as the prettiest girl in the world, like Austin does with me. Because he loves you, maybe not in the way Austin and I do, but he does."
"I've learnt that whenever you visit, we always have heart to heart."
"Me too," I laugh, "I should get back, eventually Austin will run out of stuff to say."
"Me too, I miss you, you know."
"I miss you too! You're my baby sister."
