Chapter 38: Court
Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are astounded about what the footage Kikyo gave them earlier revealed to them. "This is unbelievable." Inuyasha claims with such anger in his voice. Sesshomaru nods, "I agree with you. This is going to be added to the charges of child abuse, conspiracy, and murder." Sesshomaru writes down the charges to give to their father.
A cell phone rings from Sesshomaru's pocket. He picks it up and sees who it is one the other line. "It's dad." He mouths and answers it. "Hi, father." He casually said to him. "Sesshomaru, Inuyasha. I need you guys to come to the court house in a few minutes. And bring the Higurashis with you as well." Inutaishou demands calmly. "Alright." Sesshomaru replies back and hangs up. "Dad wants us to come to the courthouse and bring the Higurashi family with us as well." Sesshomaru said as he gathers the footage and gathers his belongings. Inuyasha follows suit.
At the Higurashi house, Kagome and Kikyo are in their bedrooms doing their homework. All of a sudden the doorbell rings. "I'll get it." Hige calls out to them and goes to the door. He opens it up to see Inuyasha and Sesshomaru with such serious expressions on their faces. "Hello, Mr. Higurashi." Inuyasha greets first. "Hi there. What can I help you with?" Hige asks them with such uncertainty. "Mr. Higurashi, We're here to let you know that we have to take you guys to court." Sesshomaru gets to the point of their visit. "Court? I'm not in trouble am I?" Hige asks nervously
Throughout the time, Hige has never been in trouble about anything. "Rest assured. You're are to come to court. Not only you but also everyone else." Sesshomaru tells him. Hige nods with an understanding look. "Kagome, Kikyo, Ai!" He calls out to the rest of his family. Ai comes in from the kitchen. "What is it, dear?" Ai asks him and then spots Inuyasha and Sesshomaru. "Oh are you guys here to hang out?" She asks them innocently. Hige rolls his eyes, "We're going to court." Hige tells her. "Dad, what's going on? Why are Inuyasha and Sesshomaru here?" Kagome asks him with Kikyo right behind her. "We're going to court." Hige repeats himself. "Court? What for?" Ai asks him as she takes hold of his arm with fear. "We'll explain it on the way there." Sesshomaru tells them and gestures them to follow them.
A few minutes later, the group arrive at the entrance of the building where the court case is taking place. Once they got into the building's court room to take their reserved seats, the Higurashi family except Kikyo were surprised to see who comes in. The first that came inside is Kyoko in an orange jumpsuit, handcuffs. The second was an older woman in the same manner. And then a man at the same age as of the older woman in the same wardrobe. They take their spots on the opposite side of the table Inuyasha, Sesshomaru and Inutaishou are sitting in.
"What's going on?" Kagome whispers to Inuyasha who sat in front of her. "You've been a victim of…" A little bang cuts their talk as they both see a judge in a high podium in black robes. "This trial is in session." He announced the room. "Toshi Pumatino, Hima Pumatino, Kyoko Pumatino. All three of you are called into trial due to these number of charges. First is attempt of murder to Kagome Higurashi. Second is blackmail with the Mr. Sato Buriko, the principal from the school. Third is assault on another student. Fourth is child abuse. Fifth, illegal residence for a minor under the age of 14." The judge puts on the footage that Sesshomaru handed to him earlier before the trial. The lights dim down and the tv turns on the footage. Everyone were beyond shocked to witness the attempts. "I've seen quite enough." The judge concludes the trial. "Due to these multiple charges, the parents are to be sentenced 20 years in prison. And for Kyoko Pumatino having to injure Kagome Higurashi, are hereby sentenced juvy for the next 15 years." He bangs the mallet to the top of the podium. "Toshi, Hima. Explain to us why you forced your daughter to kill Kagome Higurashi?"
Kagome widens her eyes. "Kill me?" Kyoko's face is full of shame and guilt. "It was because of her parents." Toshi points to them. "Hige Higurashi broke my wife's heart, while Ai broke mine 20 years ago." Hige and Ai looked at each other and then back to them. "Higurashi is this true?" The judge asks them. Hige nods. "Yes, your honor. Toshi was my wife's first love, while Hima was mine. But after finding out that they were cheating on the both of us, we had no choice but to break up." Hige explains to them.
Once the trial ended, three security guards come into the room and escort the three individuals. "I hope you are happy." Kyoko glares at Kikyo. "Thanks to you, I'll make sure I'll get my revenge." Kikyo rolls her eyes. "Whatever you say." Kikyo casually rolls her eyes and goes to her sister. Not much was discussed so everyone left the room.
Kagome looks down to her casted hand. Inuyasha spots her downcast look. "You okay?" He asks her gently. "I don't know if I should happy that they deserved to be sent to jail. Or I should be mad at myself to get us into this mess." She sits down on a chair close by. Inuyasha sits down by her. "Kagome…" He takes a hold of her shoulder. "You didn't do anything wrong that caused this. You just wanted to make sure you get through whatever came in your way." He comforts her. Kagome wanted to believe him. Really bad. But it's hard to do so. "I just wish this has never happened. I had no idea for what Kyoko did to me was nothing more to be a slave from her own parents to get mine to suffer."
Ai and Hige looked towards their daughter. "I had no idea that Kyoko's parents were behind this. And here I thought that it was just her." Hige spoke to his wife. "But we were wrong." Ai finalizes the statement. "It was her parents that were cheating against each other. And then they were jealous that they wanted their own daughter to do their binding. But what made me very angry was the task that they made her do." She narrows her eyes. "To kill her. I think they wanted our attention." Hige spoke this time. "But if it weren't for Kikyo, Kagome would've already be dead." He copies his wife's expression. They knew for sure that Kikyo really did the right thing to stop Kyoko from killing their precious Kagome.
