I stared out the window, watching as droplets of water raced down the glass. The rain clouds had appeared out of nowhere just a few short hours before. It was nearly impossible to see five feet outside of the window with how thick the rain was, not that here was much to see being how high above the ground we were.
"Do you enjoy this type of weather?" A deep voice asked, startling me out of my aimless thoughts. I turned to look at who had joined me. I was pleasantly surprised to see Thor gazing out the window the same way I had been just moments before. He was holding a small blue blanket.
"I don't know why, but rain has always made me feel calm, almost peaceful, and refreshed." I replied, not quite giving him a yes, but something similar.
"That is wise, rain brings life, it makes all the worlds turn, without it, we would all be nothing." He sat in a chair near mine, fiddling with the blue blanket he now had in is lap.
"I've always enjoyed the smells that arise after it rains. The grass, the tar, even the worms that work their way to the surface." I turned to face him with my body. "I used to play in the puddles after it rained, I had my Strawberry Shortcake rainboots, hopping from puddle to puddle, I always made sure I never stepped on a worm," I smiled to myself, "I still try not to step on them today."
"It was similar on Asgard," He laughed, "My brother, Loki, used to enchant the puddles, making them much deeper than they appeared." He shook his head in mirth, "It was always funny watching people flounder for a few small moments."
"This time, however, the rain feels a bit more ominous to me." I frowned.
"I have a feeling you may be right." For some reason, it was just as comforting as it was disturbing to me that he agreed. On one hand, I wasn't the only one with the feeling of dread. On the other, something that had always been a symbol for happiness, now screamed danger, and that scared me.
"Why does it scare me so much?"
"Because, my friend, you have seen the other side, but for once, you have something to live for."
The topic was getting to heavy, too suffocating, I had to change the subject. "So, what is that?" I gestured towards the blanket in his hand.
"Do you not recognize it?" He lifted the tattered blanket up, show casing it and its glory.
"No?"
"I apologize, it has weathered a few trips to Asgard and back." He frowned, worriedly.
"Wait, is that mine?" I furrowed my brows as my mind conjured up an image that Maud had shown me. It was the blanket he was using on my floor.
Thor nodded as a yes, "It seems kind of silly to me now," he paused "keeping the blanket that is."
"Why?"
"A great warrior should never rely on something so trivial."
"I think you're wrong."
"I am?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, you're wrong, do you know why?" I waited a moment for an answer, but received none. "It's because real warriors have hearts, and warrior with a heart needs comfort, otherwise they wouldn't be so genuine. Warriors may look all tough and macho on the outside, but they wouldn't really be heros unless they were soft and gooey on the inside." I smiled, "Like a chocolate chip cookie."
Thor let out a hearty laugh at my comparison, "I suppose you are right, once again."
"You might not want to say that so often, it does horrible things to my ego," I joked.
"I wanted to give it back to you, since you're here again, I no longer have a need for it."
"Keep it, you need it more than me."
Uncertainty and relief flashed across his face, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, Thor, I am sure."
We both turned back to watch the rain fall. We sat in silence for a small moment before he spoke again.
"I have known you so long, yet I don't believe I have ever introduced you to Lady Jane."
"No, I don't think I have had the pleasure of meeting her." I smiled, "All that matters is that she makes you happy, and I feel like I know her personally from how much you talk about her." I waggled my eyebrows at him. "She's a very lucky girl," I remarked, "I have a feeling she gets to see another side of you that we don't get the honor of meeting."
"Yes, she brings out the best in me."
"You're lucky to have someone like that."
"Yes, I am." His voice rumbled.
"How come we don't do this more often?"
"What?"
"We don't really talk all that much, you and I."
"No, we-" Thor stopped mid-sentence and focused on some indistinguishable point outside the window. He leaned forward and squinted, trying to get a better view.
I leaned forward too, just barely detecting a shadow in the downfall, "What is tha-"
The window exploded as the shadow hit it, flying straight through and slamming into me. We landed on the ground with a loud thump. My world spun for a moment and I vaguely saw Thor summoning Mjolnir out of the corner of my eye. I shook my head while jerkily trying to shove the shadow off of me. Everything seemed like it was in slow motion for what seemed like forever. Thor was shouting, bringing his hammer in a full arc, lightning crackled along the handle before hitting Thor's hand. Suddenly he was out the window, flying away, and everything went in fast forward.
I was quickly became aware I was yelling after him, screaming for help hysterically. The weight on top of me was crushing me, I couldn't breathe. There was metal digging into my ribs, and the chair was jammed into my back, effectively blocking my lungs from what they do best. I could feel my shoulder and cheek bleeding from some of the glass that had followed the shadow. I could feel another small shard of it digging into my shoulder blade.
Where was Thor? Where is he?
I shook my head again as my sight swam. As everything cleared, I finally took in what was going on around me. The first thing I saw was Sam's face right in mine. His cheek was bruised and he has the beginning of a black eye, there was a gash that was heavily bleeding right above his eyebrow, and there was a trail of blood trailing out form between his lips. His Falcon wings were spread out like a fallen angel's. They must have been the added weight that was crushing me.
Suddenly my vison went fuzzy. Distantly my mind supplied the fact that I didn't have enough air, that I was suffocating. But I wasn't focused on that, instead I was more worried about Sam. Was he dead? Did he have brain damage? I did notice a sizable lump on the side of his head. Am I going to die?
I grew panicked and started struggling with Sam's weight. I couldn't die, I couldn't die again, I just got back, like a week ago!
All of my thoughts got cut off as Ironman, no, Tony, flew through the broken window fully clad in his armor. He landed on the floor next to Sam and I, pulling the latter off me. I pulled in a large gasp of air, sucking in oxygen like I would never breathe again. Tony took off his face plate and tried to talk to me. I registered his lips moving, but not a single sound reached my ears.
"Tony?"
His lips moved more, but I still didn't hear a syllable.
"I- I can't hear you!" I yelled, or at least I thought I did, I couldn't tell.
"-here!" sounds finally reached my ears.
"What?"
"She's here!" He yelled as the wind whistled though the broken window, making his declaration sound ominous.
"Who?" I yelled back, not fully understanding his words.
"Night!" he yelled.
"Night?" An image of the devilish red head popped up in my mind. "I thought you guys were away on a mission!" They had just left that morning, it was only a recon, so they didn't need Thor. It was supposed to be the spies, Tony, Steve, and Sam.
"It was a trap!" he shouted and tossed something at me. It was a comm unit. I eyed him curiously, "I fixed them up, she can't control you now, plus we can communicate out in the field!" I looked at him, uncertain. "C'mon, Matty, we've got to go, it's showtime!"
I wasn't ready. We were supposed to come up with a long and detailed plan, a fully thought out plan! I needed more time. This was the woman who had killed me, no amount of preparing would have made me ready for this moment. I turned and looked at Sam's unconscious body and my mind was made up. She couldn't mess with me or the ones I loved without paying. I was right, the rain was not a good symbol this time. Somehow, my ego did not relish in this fact.
Today is the day, today is the day I kill Night.
"Let's go."

PLEASE READ!
Hello everyone! I know it has been a while, and I just wanted to let you all know that I plan to end this story around chapter 40. So this is coming to a bitter sweet end! I also wanted your opinion on something. Should I continue on with Matty? I was thinking adding her into some of the movie timelines. Would you guys enjoy that? I also wanted to say that I plan to create a story featuring Tawny if I ever get the time! Let me know of your thoughts and opinions!
SoraMalfoySlythern: Thank you so much for your review! They definitely made me smile! While I've never had a German Shepard, I've always wanted one. It's a safe bet to say that when I have the appropriate housing for one, I will get one! Also, with your other comment, they could tell she wasn't a dog due to her eye color. Which now that I think of it, maybe I should add that in! XD
KnightOwl247: Thanks! I loved the last chapter too! I also appreciate all of the reviews you give me! They all make me smile so much!
PS: I know that some of you are in the same shoes as me right now, so good luck with your finals! I wish you all the best!
