"Hey Kens are you going to go to the store or would you like me to?" Deeks asked walking into the living room freshly showered.
"Um I can go." She said.
"Can I go with you mommy?" Ryland asked looking up at her.
"No buddy you are going to stay here with me and Niko." Deeks said. Ryland immediately started pouting and turned towards his mom.
"Pwease mommy." Ryland begged.
"How could I say no to those eyes. Yes you can come with me." Kensi said. Ryland jumped up and kissed her before running off for his shoes.
"Are you sure Kens?" Deeks asked.
"He doesn't know what they are, and I can tell a lie if I have to, besides the kids will be the first to know if I am pregnant." Kensi stated grabbing her purse and keys off the coffee table.
"Alright see you soon, love you." He said.
"Love you too." She replied and went to get Ryland so they could leave.
"Mommy when can me's go back to karate?" Ryland asked from the backseat.
"Tomorrow bud, but you will only go once a week for a little while." Kensi said looking in the rearview mirror at him. He seemed to be content with the answer and stayed quiet until they reached the store. They walked into the store and went straight for the pregnancy test. Ryland who was too young and distracted to care what his mom was doing and found Avenger vitamins on the shelf.
"Can I haves these mommy?" He asked.
"Sure." Kensi said after reading the back of the bottle.
"What is that?" Ryland asked pointing to the pink box in her hands.
"It's just something mommy needs, its just for girls." She said picking him up and throwing him over her shoulder. Ryland giggled and happily hung over his moms shoulder. When the pair made it home, just Deeks was sitting on the couch watching UFC.
"Where is Niko?" Kensi asked, she was slightly worried because it was only 7:52.
"He fell asleep watching T.V. with me so I took him to bed." Deeks said turning down the volume on the television.
"How was the store?"
"Mommy getted someting just for girls." Ryland informed his dad.
"Oh did she now. Well its a good thing we are boys." He said picking up his son, and giving his wife a wink.
"It's bedtime Little Prince." Kensi said walking over to him and running her hand across his back. Ryland layed his head down on Deeks chest and made a big sigh for such a little guy.
"You okay Ry?" Kensi asked him.
"Ryland nodded up and down. Kensi and Deeks shared a look of confusion before walking towards Ryland's room. Ryland who chose his Hawkeye pajamas and his book full of superheros was laying back in bed watching his parents. His dad was laying on his left side and his mom was laying on his right side. Kensi began to read as Ryland snuggled back against his dads chest and listened. Ryland made it 3 chapters in and fell asleep. Kensi closed the book and Deeks flipped off the lamp before they tiptoed out of his room.
"You ready to take this test?" Deeks asked when they were in their room.
"What if it is negative?" She asked looking at him.
"Then were going to have to do something to change that." He said with a smile. She chuckled back at him still staring at the box on her hands.
"Hey it will be okay, I will be right here when you get out." Deeks said kissing the top of her head.
"Alright here I go." She said and walked into their bathroom. Deeks sat on the end of their bed fidgeting with his wedding ring and bouncing a leg up and down. Kensi walked out of the bathroom so he motioned for her to come sit on his lap.
"Someone needs to invent an instant pregnancy test, I hate waiting." Kensi mumbled. She picked up his hand and began playing with the ring on his finger.
"What you thinking about princess?" Deeks asked after a few moments of silence.
"Just the day we got married, you look about as nervous as you did when I was walking towards you." Kensi said. "Come to think of it, you were this nervous when I took the first pregnancy test." Kensi added.
"Well you see those were the some most important days of my life, and this day just might make the list." Deeks said.
"Are you ready to find out?" She asked nervous herself. Deeks nodded and they both stood up to examine the test in the other room.
"Kens." Deeks said after they had looked at the test and eachother neither saying anything.
"Looks like today made your list." She said with a smile. He grabbed her face and kissed her passionately.
"Can we handle 3 children?" She asked.
"We can handle bullets and bad guys, I'm pretty sure another child will be easy." He replied.
"This is gonna be great." She said with a smile. Deeks smiled at her and grabbed her hand leading her to their bed. Kensi finally relaxed against him and began to drift off to sleep. Deeks was far to excited to sleep so he stayed awake holding Kensi.
Ryland awoke down the hall and couldn't go back to sleep. He grabbed Jarvis and headed for his parents room. He crawled up the middle of his parents bed only to find the middle occupied. He huffed and sat there trying to come up with an idea of how to get into the middle. Coming up with no way possible to get in the middle without waking his mommy and daddy, he patted his mom on the hip.
"Mommy." Ryland whispered waking her up.
"What's the matter Ry?" His mommy asked sitting up and waking up his daddy.
"What's going on, Kens are you okay?" Deeks asked confused. Kensi pointed to the middle of their bed at Ryland who sat there holding Jarvis. He looked tired and his hair was ruffled.
"Are you okay squirt?" His daddy asked. Ryland nodded his head yes, still not saying anything.
"Well what's the matter baby?" Kensi tried again.
"Me just needs yous." Ryland said looking down at the bed.
"Come here." Kensi said opening her arms. Ryland crawled over to her and rested in her arms. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed his head.
"We are always right here baby, daddy and I are never going anywhere." She whispered to him. Deeks scooted closer wrapping both of them in his arms and holding them close. Ryland closed his eyes and let his mom hold him. Kensi fell back asleep soon after, with her hand in her sons hair and the other holding him close. Deeks was confused, but decided that everyone needs someone sometimes. He kissed both of their heads and fell asleep for the second time that night.
Deeks awoke first aware that Ryland and Kensi were still pressed against him. He smiled down at the pair. Ryland was sandwiched in between them breathing softly. Kensi hadn't moved since last night when she wrapped herself around Ryland, to comfort him. Deeks carefully extracted himself, not jostling his son or his wife and got out of bed to make a pot of coffee and check on Niko. As soon as the coffee was brewing he walked down the hallway and into Niko's room.
"Mr. Niko its time to wake up." Deeks said plopping himself down on his sons bed.
"No daddy, its still dark." Niko replied pulling the covers over his face. Deeks chuckled and crawled under the covers with him.
"It's only dark in here, but its bright out there." Deeks said pulling the covers away from both of them. Niko scrambled closer to his dad and tucked his head into Deeks lap.
"Are you ready for grandma's today?" Deeks asked carding a hand through his sons hair. Niko had really soft hair, it almost felt like puppy fur, and Deeks loved it. Niko all of a sudden sat up and looked at his dad.
"Will grandma take us to the park today?" He asked.
"I'm sure if you ask nicely she will." Deeks assured his son.
"I want to take my camera and get pictures of the duckies." Niko informed his father.
"That will be fun." Deeks said. "When I was 6 years old I went to the park with my best friend Ray, and this big white swan chased me all over the park. Ray was laughing at me as I tried to escape. I finally realized the swan wasn't going to stop chasing me so I stopped. I was silly and tried to talk to the swan to see what it wanted." Deeks told Niko with a smile."And do you know what that swan did to me?" He asked.
"What did it do?" Niko asked really intrigued.
"That big white swan bit me right here above my belly button, and flew away." Deeks said poking Niko in the tummy. Niko squealed and howled with laughter.
"Why did it bite you daddy?" He asked after he had calmed down.
"I think he must have been hungry." Deeks said.
"Silly swan." Niko said.
"It was a silly swan indeed." Deeks added.
"Where is Ray daddy?" Niko asked. Deeks took a breath before beginning.
"I'm not sure, the last time I saw him was when Ryland was born. He showed up at the hospital, but left really fast." Deeks explained.
"Can I meets him?" He asked.
"Well maybe you willbe able to soon, but I'm not sure." Deeks said. Niko nodded his head and got out of bed to get ready for his grandmas house.
"I'm gonna go check the coffee and wake up mom and Ryland, alright." Deeks said standing up and exiting the room. Kensi and Ryland were already awake and she was helping him get dressed.
"Morning." Deeks said walking up to her and kissing her briefly.
"Mmmm morning." She replied. After the boys were dressed and fed Kensi and Deeks went to get ready.
"You should call him." Kensi said from the bathroom where she was doing her makeup.
"Call who?" He asked stepping into his jeans.
"Ray, I know you miss him." She said.
"Dis you hear the story I told Niko?" Deeks asked. She nodded her head yes.
I should call him. He whispered to himself.
"If I call him, can I tell him about the baby?" Deeks asked hopeful.
"Yes, but only him, I have to tell Getty today also." She said.
"I think I will call him after work." Deeks said kissing Kensi before walking out of the bedroom. She smiled to herself and followed him.
Everyone's comments have been uplifting and sweet, thank you for that. I am sorry to all of you who mentioned you had also recently lost a loved one. It sucks, it really does. I hope this chapter makes you smile, I used the story of when my sister got chased and bit by a swan when we were little! It was really a sight to see! :)
