"So is this like a lezzy bar then?" asked Rosie, raising her glass of wine to her lips and taking a sip.
Sophie shook her head, "Technically speaking, no. But it's kind of become one I suppose."
"How do you mean?" Rosie frowned.
"Well it's not like 'officially' one." explained Sophie, taking a gulp of her own drink, "Over time though, for whatever reason, it's kind of become known as some sort of lesbian hot spot. Guess everyone got sick of straight people ruining Canal Street."
Smiling widely, Rosie waved her arms around animatedly as she spoke, "Oh my god I love Canal Street."
Sophie rolled her eyes, "Point made."
"So this is where you come to pick up your lady friends?" probed Rosie, looking around the bar with interest.
"Used to be." muttered Sophie, taking another swig from her beer bottle.
Rosie smirked, "Oh yeah, forgot you were all loved up now."
"Give it a rest Rosie." groaned Sophie, scrunching her features up at her sister's teasing tone.
"And you met Sian here?" asked Rosie, wanting to squeeze all the information she could out of her younger sibling. She knew that Sophie could be somewhat of a closed book when it came to relationships and her sex life, something that Rosie found immensely boring and annoying. I mean why wouldn't you want to gossip about such an interesting topic?
Shaking her head, Sophie picked at the label of her beer bottle, eyeing the paper as it peeled back with interest, "No … well yeah, originally … but we ended up together cause Laura introduced us when the two of them were dating … I hit on her in here like six months ago but she wasn't interested."
"Right …" Rosie trailed off with a frown as she tried to process what Sophie was saying, "So she said no when you tried it on originally?"
Sophie sighed, "Yes."
"Ouch." chuckled Rosie, eyeing her sister up with amusement, "Bet you didn't take that well."
Continuing to pick at the label of her bottle with her thumb, Sophie watched in satisfaction as the paper flaked on to the table, "I didn't know her much at the time … wasn't a big deal. Just thought I'd try it on."
"Things not what they should be in the bedroom?" asked Rosie, quirking an eyebrow and grinning.
Finally looking up from what she was doing, Sophie frowned, "What?"
Rosie nodded towards the beer bottle, "That's a sign you're sexually frustrated."
"What is?"
"Picking at your label like that." explained Rosie, her grin widening, "So, you sexually frustrated?"
Sophie rolled her eyes and groaned, "I'm just frustrated Rosie!"
"So things are great in the bedroom then?" pushed Rosie, enjoying winding her sister up immensely.
Finally feeling herself snap, Sophie rolled the paper from the table in to a ball between her thumb and forefinger, flicking it over at her sister in irritation, "Yes Rosie. They're great. Are you happy now? Sex with Sian is amazing. Out of this world. Best I've ever had. Fucking phenomenal. Is that what you wanted to hear?"
"Alright grumpy boots." grumbled Rosie, batting the ball of paper away as it was launched towards her, "Just trying to lighten the mood."
"Well my mood isn't going to lighten." snapped Sophie, "I've screwed over my best friend who now wants absolutely nothing to do with me. I am completely consumed by guilt and disappointment in myself. I'm fucking homeless and feel like I'm just getting on Sian's nerves by imposing on her this whole time. I'm constantly worried that I'm not good enough for her and I'll do something to mess this up. And then I'll be alone … she won't want anything to do with me … and all this pain and hurt I've put Laura through will have been for absolutely nothing and I won't have a thing to show for it. I've got no family around me. No real friends anymore. And on top of that I'm so certain that Sian's going to see sense any day now so I won't even have her. Because let's be honest she could do damn better than me. Just look at her. She could have anyone she wanted. So why would she settle for a no good, back stabbing, worthless piece of crap like me?"
Taken aback by Sophie's sudden outburst, Rosie's jaw slacked as she watched her sister sit back in her chair, folding her arms across her chest with a sullen look on her face. Glancing over at the bar, Rosie saw Sian stood behind it, grinning widely as she served a customer. Sophie was right about one thing. Sian probably could have anyone she wanted in this bar. But the thing her sister didn't seem to understand was that the only person she seemed to want was Sophie.
"Soph …"
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Sophie shook her head and let out a sigh, "Look I'm sorry … I know you came up here to have a good time and so we could see each other. You didn't sign on for this fucking mess I've got myself in … I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apologise." stated Rosie, shooting the younger sibling a sympathetic smile, "You can talk to me yano? That's what big sisters are for."
"I know that. And I appreciate it." replied Sophie, trying her best to sound sincere, "But this isn't your problem. I got myself into this cause I can't seem to help myself making like … the worst decisions ever. All I do is get myself in to trouble. My life for the past year has just been one catastrophe after another. I mean seriously … god it's a good job mum isn't around to see this. She'd be so disappointed in how I've behaved."
Reaching across the table, Rosie took her sister's hand in her own and gave it a squeeze, "Sophie don't talk like that. She'd never be disappointed in you."
Sophie scoffed, "Are you kidding? All I've done is have one meaningless one-night stand after the other. I can't even begin to imagine how many girls I've slept with. And all I've done is use them and treat them like crap to get what I want. If you had any idea what people say about me, what people think of me … you wouldn't want to be sat here with me right now. Even Sian's ashamed to be seen with me here."
"That's not true."
"Isn't it?" asked Sophie, giving her sister a sceptical look, "I guarantee you people are looking at us right now. Looking at me. Wondering who I'm gonna go home with tonight. Everyone knows what I'm like and what I get up to and I'm quite rightly judged for it. And you know what? I used to love it … which just about says all you need to know about my morals and priorities. I used to enjoy the fact I had this stupid, shitty reputation as the biggest fucking whore on Manchester's gay scene. No wonder Sian hates coming out in public with me, I don't even blame her. She doesn't deserve all this baggage I come with. I've completely fucked my own life and I have no one to take responsibility for it but myself. It's my own actions and my own decisions that have led to this … led to me having no one who gives a shit about me. I-"
"I give a shit about you." interrupted Rosie, "Sian gives a shit about you."
Sophie sighed, "You're busy with your own life. And Sian will see sense soon enough."
"Oh will you give it a rest." shot Rosie, finally having heard enough and giving her sister a disapproving look, "Stop this pity party cause it's pathetic and quite frankly you're better than this Sophie. You're my sister and I love you and even if there's not much left to our family, no matter how broken it gets, I will always be here for you. And as for Sian, you need to stop being so scared that she's going to leave you because being this insecure, frightened, clingy mess is the only thing that's going to make her run away. She's quite clearly crazy about you … She must have looked over at you about seven thousand times since we arrived here and I wish more than anything I could have someone look at me the way she looks at you. Whatever you've done in the past Soph … whoever you've slept with and the bad decisions you might have made … they're in the past and you can't change them. You need to get over it. Sian likes you for who you are now, so stop feeling sorry for yourself and just give her the best of yourself now. And as for Laura? Yeah you screwed her over good and proper and yeah, you didn't go about things the right way. But when it comes down to it, you did what you needed to do to make yourself happy and it's fucking done now. So … unlucky, but I'm afraid you're just going to have to suck this one up and make the most of a bad situation. You've got Sian out of this disaster. Enjoy that. It could be worse."
Feeling somewhat stunned by her sister's rant, Sophie could do nothing but sit back and take whatever Rosie hurled at her because as much as she hated to admit it, Sophie knew that at the end of the day, she was right. Everything Rosie was saying was right. She was being pathetic. She was feeling sorry for herself. She was letting her guilt for what she'd done to Laura consume her. And she was letting her remorse for the things she'd done in the past ruin what could potentially be a great future with Sian. Running her tongue along her lower lip, Sophie nodded slowly as a ghost of a smile traced her lips.
"I thought I was supposed to be the clever sister." joked Sophie.
Rosie smirked, "I thought I was supposed to be the hot sister. Sounds like you've been getting more action than me."
Snorting out a laugh, Sophie shook her head and smiled over at the older brunette, "Thanks."
"It's fine." brushed off Rosie with a shrug of her shoulders, "Someone needed to knock some sense into you."
"Another?" asked Sophie, nodding to Rosie's empty glass of wine.
Offering a smile in return, Rosie nodded her head, "I bet I can guess the reason you're desperate to get the round in."
"Oh shut it." muttered Sophie, picking up the empties from the table and taking them over to the bar.
After waiting patiently at the bar, Sophie couldn't help but break out in to a wide smile as Sian came to stand in front of her, resting her palms on the bar top as she grinned back at the brunette.
"And what can I get you?"
Folding her arms on the bar top and leaning forward, Sophie lowered her voice, "Quickie in the toilets wouldn't go amiss."
"Behave." scolded Sian, slapping Sophie on the arm playfully, "I see the two of you haven't stopped arguing yet."
"How do you mean?"
"I could see the two of you bickering from here." explained Sian.
Grinning mischievously back at the blonde, Sophie raised her eyebrows, "So you've been checking me out across the bar?"
Sian rolled her eyes, "Come on, what do you want?"
"Same again gorgeous."
Nodding her head, Sian turned away from the brunette to get the drinks. After pouring Rosie's glass of wine and placing it down on the bar, Sian bent down to retrieve Sophie's bottle of beer from the fridge, tilting her head and catching the brunette watching her carefully.
As she made her way back over to Sophie and placed the drink down, Sian cocked an eyebrow and smirked, "Who's checking who out now?"
"Guilty as charged." conceded Sophie, pulling her wallet out of her pocket, "How much?"
"4.75."
Slipping a five pound note out of her wallet, Sophie handed it over to the blonde with a wink, "Keep the change."
Sian rolled her eyes, "Wow thanks."
"When do you get your break?" asked Sophie.
Glancing up at the clock briefly before turning back to the other girl, Sian smiled, "Twenty minutes."
"Come join us for it yeah?"
Sian nodded, "Course, see you in a bit."
Picking up her drinks from the bar, Sophie gave the blonde a final grin before turning and making her way back to the table to join her sister who was waiting not so patiently.
"Took your time." muttered Rosie as her wine was placed down on the table in front of her, "You're already shagging her, you don't need to keep shamelessly flirting."
"Oh stop your whining, I got you a drink didn't I?" chided Sophie, taking a sip of her beer and letting out a satisfied 'ah'.
Huffing again, Rosie folded her arms, "Yeah eventually."
"Now who's being a grumpy cow?" teased Sophie, taking another large gulp of her drink before placing it back down on the table.
"Shut your gob." shot back Rosie, the small smile tugging at her lips contradicting her tone.
Sophie simply chuckled, allowing herself, after the last week or so of stress and anger and guilt, to finally have all those feelings replaced by something so much easier. Contentment. She hadn't realised until now how much she'd missed her sister. The mindless, playful bickering that would constantly be taking place between them. She loved the dynamic and relationship she shared with Rosie and having it back again was dulling the ache she'd felt in her chest for so long. Knowing she was going home with Sian tonight and having Rosie around for the next few days, Sophie let something wash over her that she hadn't felt for a long time in such magnitude. Happiness. She was now unable to deny that in spite of everything that had transpired because of getting involved with Sian, she was actually content. For the first time in a while, Sophie was undeniably, unashamedly happy. And she knew it was all down to Sian. Never in a million years had the brunette thought that a girl, one girl, would have such an effect on her or impact her life so positively. Yet regardless, powerless to control it, it had happened. And consequently Sophie knew she was happier than she'd ever thought she could be.
As the minutes ticked by on the clock, Sophie and Rosie continued to chat animatedly, laughing and joking and reminiscing about old times when they'd lived together back on Coronation Street. Another round of drinks had been ordered and the sisters showed no sign of slowing down any time soon.
Sophie had lost track of time amidst her conversation with Rosie and found herself startled as an arm slipped around her shoulders and she felt the weight of another person settling in to her lap.
Looking up at the new arrival, Sophie broke out in to a smile, leaning forward and placing a kiss on Sian's shoulder, "Hey good lookin'."
Sian laughed, "Hey yourself."
"Well thanks Sian." started Rosie, giving the blonde a disapproving frown, "Could have at least brought another round over with you."
"I'm not working anymore I'm afraid." chuckled Sian, "Sorry about that."
Squeezing Sian's hip to get her attention, Sophie glanced up at the blonde questioningly, "What do you mean you're not working anymore?"
"Carl asked if I wanted to get off early." explained Sian, wrapping both arms around Sophie's neck and smirking down at the brunette who's lap she was settled in and lowering her voice, "And I told him I would absolutely love to … get off."
Sophie swallowed hard, "I … errm …"
Throwing her head back and laughing, Sian prodded Sophie in the chest playfully, "God you're just too easy."
"Well all the more reason to get the drinks in!" argued Rosie, not having heard the last part of the couple's conversation, "Thought you were joining us when you finished?"
Glancing up at the eldest Webster, Sian smiled and nodded before turning back to the girl beneath her, "Get me a drink babe."
Sophie scrunched up her features, "What?"
"Please Soph." sang Sian, brushing her fingertips over the back of Sophie's neck, "I've been working all night."
"Oh spare me." started Sophie, shaking her head in disbelief, "You've worked for like three hours and been given the rest of the night off. Not to mention you just came from the bar. You could have got your own drink."
Tightening her grip on the back of Sophie's neck, Sian leant down, brushing her lips against the brunette's for the briefest of kisses before putting on her best pout, "Babe please."
"I'll 'babe please' you in a second mind." muttered Sophie.
Leaning down again, Sian placed a kiss on Sophie's cheek, followed by another, then another, working her way down towards the brunette's jaw line until she got to her ear, "You get me a drink and I'll see what I can do about that quickie in the toilets."
"I'll get this round in." blurted out Sophie, pushing a smirking Sian out of her lap as she practically jumped to her feet, "Same again Rosie?"
Not entirely sure what had just happened but pleased she was getting a drink out of it, Rosie nodded her head eagerly, "You may as well get a bottle Soph."
"What?!" snapped Sophie, "Get your own bloody bottle."
"Just get your sister a bottle." instructed Sian, settling herself down in to the seat Sophie had previously been occupying.
Looking between the other two girls incredulously, Sophie let out a growl of frustration before finally conceding and making her way over to the bar.
"I don't know how you do it babes but you've got that one wrapped around your little finger." chuckled Rosie, tipping her wine glass up and emptying the last of its contents into her mouth, "I'm impressed."
Laughing, Sian shook her head, "Not really."
"Are you kidding?" argued Rosie, "She's like a trained monkey … completely different to last time I was up here."
Sian frowned, not sure she liked the idea of people seeing her relationship with Sophie as the brunette simply being bossed around and doing as she was told, "Well I don't make her do anything she wouldn't want to."
"Oh no babes, that's the thing," started Rosie, leaning across the table so she was closer to the blonde, "She'd do anything for you without you even having to ask."
Unable to stop herself from smiling, Sian broke eye contact with Rosie and glanced over at the bar, settling her vision on Sophie stood at the bar which caused her smile to widen.
"God you two are so smitten." teased Rosie, causing the blonde's head to snap back over to her, a blush rising in her cheeks, "But seriously … you hurt my sister, I'll come after you."
Nodding her head slowly, Sian laughed, "Got it."
