Chapter 37-AfterMath
Humphrey carried Kate back to the Alpha den in the western territory. His Back, legs, and paws burned, but he pushed through with all his might. Eve ran slightly ahead, and the rest of the pack fallowed behind us. Lilly, and Angel ran beside Humphrey.
"Will she be alright?" Lilly asked.
Humphrey didn't answer. He kept moving forward in determination, but his pace was slowing down. It took Lilly a while to realize he wasn't going to answer.
"She'll be fine" Angel said.
She wasn't sure if she believed It, but it made her feel better. She was sure that it made Humphrey and Lilly feel better too. Humphrey struggled up the incline, but made it inside the alpha den. He set Kate down in the middle of the den. The pack gathered around the outside of the den, and watched.
HUMPHREY
Eve began to work on Kate. She put a bunch of sap over her cut, and then wrapped it with this weird material. Probably some human product. The wrap almost matched her fur. It turned red from her blood, and suddenly I couldn't stand. My legs wobbled, and I fell to the den floor. I felt like I was going to puke. Eve sat in front of me.
"I've stopped the bleeding. She should come to in an hour or less. Kate will be just fine" Eve said.
I didn't believe her. There was too much blood. It was the same thing everyone is told right before their mate or friend dies.
"She might need some extra body heat" Eve added.
I looked up at her, slowly processing what she had said. I nodded, and laid down beside Kate. Everyone else left the den except Lilly, Jay, Garth, and Angel. They laid down in separate parts of the den. Kate's wound was right where I usually hold her so I wrap my arms around her stomach, and pull her close.
KATE
I woke up with strong pain running through my side. I also felt Humphrey's paw wrapped around me, witch calmed me down. I whimpered in pain.
"Kate, you're okay" Humphrey said surprised.
"Why so surprised?" I ask.
"I'm happy you're okay" He says.
I struggle to get up and with slight pain in my side, I succeed. I turn to face Humphrey. His are filled with joy, but he is frowning. Jay, Angel, Lilly, and Garth began to wake. Once they noticed me standing, they greeted me, and said that they were glad I was okay.
"Nothing can kill me" I tell them.
They smile at that and agree; except for Humphrey. He turns and walks out of the den. I frown and wonder why he's so upset. I survived and was fine. I run out of the den after him despite the pain in my side.
HUMPHREY
I sit at the ledge of the alpha den looking out over the land. How could Kate take this so lightly? She almost died, but she acted like it was nothing. Kate sat next to me.
"What's wrong?" She asks.
"You could've died" I said.
"But I didn't" She says.
"I couldn't go through life without you" I tell her.
"I couldn't go through life without you either. Good thing I'm never going to leave you".
I turn to look at her, and she's smiling. I can't help but smile myself. I nuzzle her neck, and she licks my face in appreciation.
"What do you want to do?" I ask.
"I don't know" She says.
She thinks for a while, but can't seem to think of anything. I frown when I realize there isn't much to do here. Kate couldn't get wet or the sap would come off and she would bleed out. It's a bad way to word it, but it was true.
"That's go for a walk" Kate says.
I walk beside her so she can lean on me. With nothing to do, we trace the outside of our territory. Kate tells me of plans to expand the border, but I don't see it possible. Our territory is already huge for the amount of wolves we have. She insists that it would work. It takes two hours to walk around the territory. We make back to the feeding grounds, and find the northern pack there. Kim approaches us.
"You're alright, when we saw you carried away in such a hurry; I was worried".
"It wasn't that bad. Just my mom, and Humphrey over reacting" Kate says.
I'm about to open my mouth to argue, but decide it's best I didn't. Ben walks from the crowd of northern wolves to us. Him and Kim look at each other and smile.
"We have a proposal" Kim says.
"We would like to combine packs" Ben says.
Kate and I look at each other. We turn our backs to them, and walk a short distance. She looks at me, asking for my opinion.
"Our packs are crippled, plus this would give opportunity to expand our territory" I tell her.
She smiles at me, and walks back to Kim and Ben. I fallow behind her. Kim and Ben were talking about something, but refocused on us when we came back.
"We would love to combine packs" Kate says.
"Great! I'll inform our pack" Ben says.
Ben lopes away happily. We watch him gather his pack, and began to talk to them. Daniel walks to Kim and sits beside her. In the short time we've known him, we've already became friends. Kim's eyes light up when she sees him.
"I'll talk to you two later" Kim says.
Kim and Daniel leave us, side by side. Suddenly, the northern pack exploded into talking and cheering. Ben returns to us smiling.
"It is done, and my pack seems to agree" Ben says.
"We'll announce the joining of the packs tomorrow" Kate says.
Ben nods and leads his pack away. Kate and I walk back to our den to get some sleep.
DANIEL
Kim ran ahead of me into the woods. I fallowed her best I could, but it seemed like she wanted to lose me. I finally gave up, and slowed my pace. I fallowed her scent. The sun was just starting to go down, and the moon was already high in the sky. Most creatures were heading back to their den, but not me. This was my favorite time to be out wondering. I heard rustling in the bushes to my right. I slowly and cautiously stalk towards it. Suddenly, Kim jumps out, and pins me. She begins to laugh.
"Got you" She says.
"Yep, you got me. Can I please get up?" I ask.
"Why should I?" She asks.
"I asked nicely" I say.
"If you didn't then you would be in pain right now" She says.
I sigh, and she laughs again. She gets off me, and lets me up. I start to stand up, but she pushes me back onto the ground. I look at her in confusion. She smirks at me.
"I didn't say you could get up" She says.
"May I get up?" I ask.
"Yes".
I stand up, this time without being knocked over. I quickly pin her to the ground. She yelps in surprise. I smile at her, but she only smiles back.
"I don't mind you on top of me" Kim says seductively.
I lean down, and lick her neck. She lets me for a while, but stops me after a few minutes.
"If this isn't going anywhere, then let's go to your den" She says.
"Maybe I want to take this to my den" I say.
"Just do it here" She tells me.
"You sure?".
"Mess up my fur" Kim growls playfully.
KATE
Humphrey and I go back to our den. The cut on my side hurts, but it's not that bad. Humphrey offers to help me back to the den, but I deny him. When we make it back to our den; I carefully lay down on my side that isn't cut. Humphrey curls his body around mine, careful not to touch my cut.
ANGEL
I walk with Jay back to his den. I lay down in the small ditch with him. I started to think about making our relationship more official.
"You're going to meet my parents tomorrow" I tell him.
"I am?" He asks.
"I you want this body to be yours forever" I say.
"Alright, but what if they don't like me?".
"They're easy going. They like everybody" I say.
"So if they don't like me that's a really bad sign" He says.
I giggle and cuddle closer to him. He wraps his arms around me, and we fall asleep.
KIM
I told Daniel to mess up my fur and that's exactly what he did. The fur on my back was ruffled, and sticking up. He was even better than the first time. He carried me back to the den since I was exhausted. I knew he was more tired than I was, but he even wanted to carry me. I licked the back of his neck the whole way back to his den, which was pretty far away. His den had a tiny entrance, and I had to get off his back for us to fit. The den opened up a little, but not much.
"It's pretty small" He says.
"That's okay. I don't need room" I say.
We lay down pressed together. The den walls keeping any distance from us impossible, which was fine by me.
