Chapter 38 - edited 05/03/2019
Barcelona it is. First stop is of course the place where he and Lucy lived. The nearby beach is too beautiful to just pass by it. Lucy was right. Two art museums weren't enough. Amy wanted to spend the entire vacation in art museums in Barcelona, Madrid and other cities. After taking a 2 and a half hour night flight from Valencia to London, nobody wants to cook and nobody wants takeouts and everybody missed American dishes so they settled on a restaurant nearby the apartment.
Scud takes a big bite of the juicy steak. Janet stuffed her mouth with a big piece of the grilled lobster tail as if she hadn't eaten for days, "mmm…This is good but Lucy makes it better." She cut a piece and extended it towards Scud who takes the bite and agrees. "Want some?"
"No. " Amy jerked back, wondering why Janet offered her a piece.
"Try it. You might remember something. You loved it last time."
"no thank you." Amy puts a spoonful of roasted vegetable with pasta into her mouth. She's right. Even this doesn't take as good as hers.
"You sure?"
"Yes I'm sure. Janet." What's up with her? She knows I don't eat seafood. "Have I eaten this before?"
"mhm"
"Exactly" Janet should get the point because she can't remember when she had this dish before as Kristin. Certainly eating seafood isn't going to help, but the trip did though. Not much, just a little.
"Oh that's good…like what…maybe I can give you more detail." Scud asked before but at that moment, Amy said nothing looks familiar other than famous places because she had seen the famous places online before.
"mmm…I don't think so." Amy continued eating.
"Why?"
"because you weren't there." It happened one night in the hotel in Valencia which it's odd because that moment she remembered happened in Barcelona in the house where she and Lucy lived. She remembered telling Lucy that she can't, not until after they're married and Lucy was quite disappointed about it. Why are all the memories about sex? She has no idea nor does she know why there is this odd feeling inside of her. It could be because the air is different in Spain or it could be because she hasn't seen or heard from Lucy for weeks. They did text but just a few times and not at all in the last 2 weeks. Scud did though just to tell her where they are and where they'll be. Not hearing her voice for the past weeks feels…odd. Am I'm the only one?
"So what did you remember?"
"Nothing important." This would be a good time in case to excuse herself to the restroom before Janet starts asking for details. This would also be a good time to send Lucy a text, just to let her know where we are. Maybe Scud already did. Oh whatever. First, the restroom. Besides getting an odd feeling, overall the trip was nice. She has no complaints going with Scud and Janet even though she didn't get to go to the places that she had wanted to. There will be other opportunities to do so. Besides, three weeks of vacation in another country is tiring even if all they did is walk around. "Sorry." She apologized to the woman who is also reaching for the paper towel.
"Oh…my…God."
"Max?" If they weren't standing so close, she never would've recognized her. Max looks different. Her hair is shorter.
"Who the hell are you?"
"Max. It's me. Amy."
"Amy's dead."
"Okay, that's a long story. I had amnesia…and…sort of…still does." The Max she knows is fearless. But it's understandable why she would be taking a few steps back now, looking as if she is, well, looking at a ghost. So there's only one way to convince her. "That's my bunk, bitch." Amy said in the same tone as Max did the first time they met. "Remember that."
"Jesus…Christ…Amy?"
If Max wants more proof, she can think of a few more things to say but what would be better than letting her know that Janet is outside. Having her meet with Janet wouldn't be a good idea at least not inside the restaurant because Janet no doubt would be screaming with joy thus attracting attention. It would be better to wait until they're outside. As expected, Janet can't help herself, hugging Max like they were best friends. They're not. Scud, on the other hand, let everyone know how he feels by questioning her sudden appearance. Can't blame him but he should feel better after learning that Max is working as a bodyguard, not with law enforcement.
"It's been long time. You're looking good as always." Scud said as he offered his hand out.
"You don't look too bad yourself…like the goatee." Max shook his hand firmly. "So where is she?"
"Why? Do you want to kill her?"
"As a matter of fact, yes."
"Max!" Amy only now realized what Scud was thinking. No wonder she didn't ask about Lucy.
"…but now, I just want to give her a piece of my mind…" Max punched into her own palms repeatedly.
"Max!" Can't blame her either because according to Janet, Max was demoted for getting into fights with the other DEBS who spoke badly about me after I left. "I'm sorry…Can you let this go?" Thanks to Janet for speaking up at this moment, describing how Lucy almost died from grief seems to have struck a sympathetic chord on Max. "Let's go home and we can talk."
"um…I don't think that it's a good idea." Scud said, blocking Max from entering the car.
"Scud, she's a friend. She doesn't work with the government. Even if she does, she's not going to tell on us. Right, Max?"
"Of course, Janet." Max rolled her eyes as if that's the most ridiculous question she ever asked.
"Is anyone following you?"
"Are you serious?" Max again rolled her eyes, then raised her right hand to assure him since it's the only way to convince him. "I am not going to let anyone know about you guys. And no, there's nobody following me. The only people I know here are the people at work. If I tell anyone about you, then let this year be my last."
Good enough. Amy gently pushed Scud aside to let Max in. If he continues, then she has no choice but to go somewhere else. There's too much to talk about so she didn't wait until they get to the apartment. Even if she could, Janet can't. After arriving to the apartment, she's not surprised with Max's question.
"You…all live here."
"yup" Amy smiled at her reaction while remembering her own the first time she came. It's not small, it's just not what she expected.
"Nice place."
Did she mean it? Probably but most likely she's expecting something else. "Do you want anything to drink?" Amy offered.
"Just water."
Since they already know what happened to the DEBS organization, there's no need to ask. Having learned that Mr. Phipps is still with the law enforcement doesn't surprise her. Learning that Ms Petrie retired early didn't surprise her either. What she would like to know is: "What is she doing now?"
"I don't know, probably taking care of her grandchildren."
"Oh…poor kids." Janet responded, causing all to laugh out loud except for Scud.
"How about Dominique?"
"No idea. We didn't keep in touch."
"What about Bobby?" Janet is the one who asked. Amy isn't interested until Max hesitated on the question, then held her hands.
"Amy, Bobby is…."
Whatever happened to Bobby, it doesn't matter to her since they broke up a long time ago. But she doesn't wish anything bad to happen to him. "What?"
"Bobby is…the same freaking asshole as he has always been."
"Maaax"
That's funny. She can't remember the last time Max laughed so loud. Max always wanted to be the top, the captain, the leader and to become that, she had to be tough and strict on her followers. "You're different. Max. You seem to be more relaxed."
"I don't work for the government anymore. It's less stressful, less rules, less politics, and the best part, more money…and the worst part, can't carry a gun."
Makes sense until Max asked Scud if he has a gun. "I just want to feel it. It's been a while since I held one."
"We don't have one. There's no reason for us to carry it anymore." He has one, actually a few, but there is no way he's going to let them know about it, especially the psychotic woman. Deliberately ignoring her, he continued to flip thru the magazine while still listening to their conversation. Even after learning that Max took a job in helping juvenile offenders after the DEBS disbanded, that doesn't change his perception of her, she's still psychotic.
"It was very meaningful. I liked it. But I got bored. I wanted some action, but I don't want to work for the government anymore. So I got myself a job as a bodyguard, protecting the famous, the rich…and I was recommended by one of my employers, that's why I'm here."
"Who are you protecting? A movie star?" Janet asked but didn't get an answer and was told that everything is confidential.
"Enough about me. I want to know what happened to you."
Well, details would take too long. No need for details, so she let Janet tell the story and she herself filled in what she knows.
"She didn't know it was you? How the hell could she not know?"
Amy rolled her eyes to show that she agrees. Of course, Janet jumped in at this moment to explain the situation and defended Lucy and Scud as well as herself. Brainwashed. Even Max doesn't seem to believe it. But what is she thinking about?
"What's your supervisor's name again? Lisa…"
"Lane, Lisa Lane." Amy said.
"Lisa Lane…Lisa Lane. Why does that name sound so familiar? Lisa…"
It does? Not to her or Janet who is as confused as she is.
"She must know who you are."
Obviously. So?
"She must know what you did."
Again…obviously.
"You know someone named Lisa?" Janet asked.
"Son of a bitch…"
Max swearing? That's not surprising. However she is surprised that Max remembered what happened that day as if it was yesterday. Janet couldn't and she was there when Lisa called to congratulate Petrie.
"Wait, I was promoted to Captain because I survived after meeting her?" That made…sense…somewhat. "But I don't want to be captain. Did I?"
"No, you didn't. I'm sorry for that. But you did got me worried sick when you let her kidnap you…so we're even…okay?"
Janet couldn't resist rolling her eyes, now knowing why Max would remember that day. That was a long time ago. She's that pissed.
"I'm…sorry…I don't know why I would do that."
"Because you love her." Scud felt the need to respond since none of them were there when Amy was brought to the lair. He and all the members were very surprised as well. "You wanted to get away from everyone else. She's the only one who understands you. She…made you happy."
Max held in the urge to comment. "As I was saying, Lisa Lane could be the one who called that day. She knew about you. Heck! Everyone…DEBS, FBI, CIA, Interpol knew who you were." It's just a guess since she only remember the first name. But it makes sense. If she's not the one who called Petrie that day, then she was someone who believed that Amy deserves a second chance. "She didn't arrest you. She gave you a new identity so that you don't have to live your life as a criminal. She saved you…"
"You are freaking unbelievable." Scud felt the need to interrupt again.
"She gave you a new life. You were happy, weren't you?"
"I…don't remember." According to Janet, Kristin was but felt lonely without parents, relatives or close friends. Regardless, what Lisa did was wrong so she too is at a loss at why Max is defending her.
"Well, it doesn't matter now. You're free. You can do whatever you want with the new identity and you can start your new life again."
"You are unbelievable."
Scud's opinion is loud and clear so before Max can't take Scud's rude comment anymore, Amy felt the need to continue. "Max, I didn't tell you this. But I…she…Kristin…she married her…we're married."
"Ohh…" Married or unmarried, she can still start her new life and the fact that she's not wearing a ring means it doesn't matter. "Then just get a divorce"
"There's no marriage certificate." Amy quickly added just in case Scud wants to make another rude comment.
"oh, even better"
Max is right. If there is a marriage certificate, things would be different since Lucy probably doesn't want a divorce. It is better but Max doesn't get it. I can't just leave. "I just…can't remember that feeling…right now."
"oh…so…you're going to keep staying here…with her…even though you don't love her?"
Hearing the question asked, Amy now understood why Scud is being rude so before he decides to kick Max out of the apartment, she let Max know how Lucy almost died after trying to get revenge for her.
"Is she still looking for him?"
"Of course we are." Scud immediately responded.
"We are?" Janet and Amy asked in unison.
"Yes, we have people working on it. He killed Nadia's father and all those people on the plane. We're not going to let him off so easily but we're not going to let him ruin our lives either, right Janet?" Scud asked deliberately to let Janet know that he knows what's important to him.
"Right." Janet smiled.
"Are you two married?"
"Max, we've only dated less than a year." Janet told her story, what she was doing after she left the DEBS, why she avoided all the DEBS friends, and when she came to London.
"So you two kept in touch all along?"
"mhm"
"Wow…you really got them all fooled."
"Thank you." This is the second time she got a compliment from her former Captain.
"Anyways, Amy, what are you planning to do now?"
"I'm planning to go back to art school."
"Ssso...you're going to continue living here?"
"She's sick. She needs to stay here so we can take care of her." This time Scud didn't speak rudely. There's no need to since his reason makes sense and Max agrees.
"It's getting late. I better go. I have to work tomorrow. So…I'll give you a call tomorrow and you can come over to my place."
Sounds good. Without Scud in the car, she can now ask questions that wouldn't be appropriate before. It's no surprise that Max had a boyfriend. She's a good looking tough chic. It's also no surprise that the relationship lasted only a year. Not many can stand Max's behavior when she gets angry.
"Amy, remember that time, we bet on who's going to get married first. We all said it was going to be you…and we were right…just not to Bobby." Janet tried to make a joke but nobody is laughing.
"I remember that." Amy said.
"You do?"
"Do you remember what the bet was?"
"Yes, but it doesn't count…since technically I didn't marry her." Amy understood Janet's intention after she asked since the bet was a $1000. "I also said I would have at least one child by the age of 30." The dream of having a family seems to be impossible even though she still feels like the same person five years ago, but her body tells her otherwise.
"30 is still young. These days, people have kids at 35, 36, even 40. So we still have a lot of years. Don't worry."
As comforting as those words sound, Janet failed to understand that their situation is different. She's dating Scud and most likely would get married soon, if not this year, then next year. But me? "What if…by then…I still can't remember. I can't keep living with her."
"That's what I'm talking about!" Max said.
"Amy, you need to give it time. It's still early. You can't think about leaving now." Janet said while focusing on the road.
"I know…and I'm not. I just…maybe I should give myself a deadline…like if I don't…"
"Don't you like living me…with us?"
"Janet, can you put yourself in her shoes? If she can't remember, she has to move on. How is she going to move on when she still lives with you…all of you? How is she going to bring home a boyfriend?" Max deliberately said the last word out loud.
"But…you will remember someday…I know you will."
"when? Janet. When she gets to 60? Didn't your boyfriend say he's not going to let that bastard ruin his and your life? It's the same thing. Nobody knows what's going to happen in the future. If she keeps on living with you…with her, she's not going to have her own life. It's going to be awkward…for both of them."
It's difficult to have a serious conversation while driving so Janet waited until they get to Max's place which didn't take long. If it did, she wouldn't have waited to say: "Max, why are you trying to break them up?"
"Haven't you been listening? They're not together. Amy wants to move."
"Amy?" Janet asked in a concerned tone.
"No…I mean…not now…"
"Girls, it's getting late. Let's talk tomorrow."
Janet quickly gets out of the car since she's not finished and quickly realized she made the mistake of grabbing Max by the shoulder when she groaned in pain. "What's wrong?"
"…just a little shoulder pain…from work."
"Are you okay?" Amy asked.
"Fine. No big deal. That's why I took this job, a lot of action." Max said, throwing some punches in the air to show them. "How about you? Amy. Have you been keeping up or are you just a regular civilian now?"
"Of course I have. In fact, the new me is even better."
"Oh really…then let's see what you got." Max takes a few steps back and puts her hands up.
"Max, you're hurt."
"Ohhhh…so you think you're that good, huh…c'mon…you're not going to be able to hurt me."
She's the still the same old Max, always want to prove that she's the best.
"Give it all you got. I'll know if you don't. c'mon, Amy."
Seriously? Even Janet can't help rolling her eyes.
"Don't tell me you forgot all those training you had?" She moved a step closer while holding her fists up. "So what did you do after you eloped with her? Crawl into bed with her, cook and clean for her, so she can pay for your education…let the past be the past." Seeing no response and no reaction from Amy, Max let her hands down. "Amy…I know you want to be an artist, but…OW!" She realized the mistake she made of putting her hand on Amy's shoulder when her wrist was grabbed onto, then twisted in a way that prevented her hand from pushing back. It happened so fast, so unexpectedly, her arm is forced and held into an awkward position behind her back.
"…actually Max, I didn't sleep with her until after we got married…just to be clear, she was the one who knelt and proposed…and…she does the cooking and is exceptional at it…and the cleaning…well…she would do that if I ask her to." The sleeping part, Lucy told her that. Lucy also told her that she was the one who initiated it…Yeah, right. The cooking and cleaning part, Janet told her that. Amy lets go of her arm and is not surprised when her tough former Captain tries to elbow her with the other arm. After blocking it, she pushed her away since she had enough and because she doesn't want to hurt Max.
"ahh…" Max said as she gently moves her shoulder, arm, and wrist. "Looks like I don't need to worry about you."
Max has changed a bit. Usually she doesn't accept defeat so easily. It could because she has work tomorrow.
"Is that really true?" The awful things she said, she didn't mean it. That's just to provoke her but it didn't work not the way she expected to anyway.
"Yes." Janet said.
"Which part?"
"All of it."
"Really? She knows how to cook?"
Impressed? No doubt. We were. Don't believe it? She will when Lucy gets back, then she'll know how much Lucy has changed."I can tell you how she proposed if you want to know." Janet said.
"Tomorrow." What she needs now is a shower, then sleep. After taking a hot shower, she placed a heating pad on the shoulder. "Damn it. Looks like I'm the one who needs more training. Still hurts." She moved her jaws up and down, side to side.
Toronto, Canada
Six weeks passed by quick. That's what happens when there are places to go not just staying home, Uncle Nick's home, doing nothing.
"Your turn."
Lucy walked around until she found the right spot.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
Lucy bent forward, pulled back the cue stick and shot it hard. "I have no choice."
"How long did you say since you last played?"
Too long. "Come here…Oscar…come here…good boy…" Lucy bent down to pick up the small white maltese terrier.
"Lucy, you do have a choice. If you don't go back, it's going to be more difficult for her to remember her past." He had no idea this was her plan. But even if he knew, there's nothing he could do. "Don't you think they would know something is up?"
"She knows who I am." Lucy said as she focused on the dog that is resting on her abdomen. "She knows who she is. She just doesn't know why she fell in love with me."
"Is that what she said?" If it's true, then he can understand how she feels. But whether it's true or not, leaving means giving up. That's not like her.
"Do you love me?" Lucy said, holding the cute dog in front of her face, then pulled back to prevent herself from getting licked.
"It's almost time." Uncle Nick said as he took a look at his watch.
The ride to the city's most prestigious hotel didn't take long. However, getting ready did but not because she has to wash her face after getting licked by Oscar but because of the disguise she has to put on. Putting the fake beard on took the longest.
It's good to see that Anthony hasn't changed much. A year did nothing to his looks; his jokes though aren't as funny as they used to be.
"You serious?" Lucy asked.
"I'm serious."
Just a moment ago, she was asking about his employee who did quit like she said she would and is now working in one of his companies, she didn't think he too would want to settle down.
"Anthony, if you want a woman, there are plenty out there who wants to be with you. All you have to do is give them a chance."
"But I don't want just any woman. I want someone who loves me, not my status, not my money."
Ohhh… That's shocking because she didn't think this would be the reason. Somehow Uncle Nick figured it out. Uncle Nick is right, all Anthony has to do is give them a chance and stop thinking that every woman who's interested in him wants his money. He's not young but many would be attracted to him by his looks, many young, beautiful…
"Who?" There is a need to pretend because she just realized why he's feeling this way. Over a year has passed and he's still thinking about the megastar. Unbelievable!
"She doesn't have a boyfriend."
"Oh for God's sake, Anthony." Lucy can't help herself since he's being ridiculous. Dinner is done, so she left the table to show him how she feels. Uncle Nick didn't say anything but most likely he feels the same way since he too left the dinner table.
"What?" Anthony followed them to the living room where the view of the city at night and the CN tower can be seen thru the panoramic window.
"Anthony, she's not right for you."
Thanks, Uncle Nick for agreeing. He just might be the only one Anthony would listen to. If she says what's in her mind, he probably would go after the megastar just to prove that he can. But she doesn't agree with Uncle Nick to bring up Nathan's status right now.
"Oh…geez…even Nathan has a girlfriend."
If Anthony is listening, he would've understood the point Uncle Nick was trying to make. She did. Even Nathan failed to get a date with the megastar and he's young and wealthy.
"Anthony, your future wife is out there somewhere. Sometimes things happen when you least expected. Look at Lucy. She's a perfect example of that."
Okay, what? I'm here without Amy. Why is he using me as an example? Shouldn't he use Nathan as an example?
"Did you know she's married?"
"Really?"
Can't blame Anthony for being confused since he knows her reason for being here. "umm…Uncle Nick, she doesn't remember me." Is old age affecting his memory?
"I have no doubt that she will." Uncle Nick assured her with a smile, patting lightly on her shoulder.
As comforting as his words are, she knows there's a chance that might never happen. "I'm okay. Even if she can't, as long as she's healthy..." As smooth as her words came out, they didn't convince Anthony. What it did though is made him realize his situation is not as bad otherwise he wouldn't have suggested to go out to have a good time. Coming here to have dinner with him was all she had in mind but now…
"wait…"
It's Scud? There's no reason for Scud to be calling since she already told him that she'll be staying until Uncle Nick feels better. And why is he calling at this time of the night? Shouldn't he be sleeping? "Yes…What? Max? What!...Ohh…well, that's good. Maybe she can help her remember."
"Remember what! Lucy! She hates you. She's trying to split you two up!" The first day that Max came, he knew what mad Max was up to. Amy spent more time with her than anyone else. He didn't tell Lucy since there was nothing anyone could do, not even Janet who took Amy to all the places they went to to help her remember. But now, it's necessary for Lucy to know because he overheard a conversation between Amy and Max, talking about moving. "Hello? Did you hear what I said?"
"yes"
"Well?" Scud asked again.
"Well what?"
"Lucy? Did you hear what I said? You have to come back here!"
"I can't right now. Besides, Max will probably want to kill me."
…Just joking…
Without a gun, Max was no match for her. Max was the one who surprised her from behind that night. The minute she turned around, she was attacked by a powerful kick aimed at her chest which she blocked by her right forearm. Max looked very different. It shocked her to see her in London. Max didn't even give her a chance to explain and kept throwing punches and kicks so she had no choice but to defend herself and threw one knuckle punch aiming at her upper chest right beneath the collar bone, then a left hook at her jaw. Since the furious psycho wasn't listening, she decided to run inside the park where there wouldn't be anyone around.
"You bitch. I'm going to kill you." Panting heavily, Max spit out the blood on the ground.
"Max, listen to me. Amy…"
"Shut up! Don't even say her name. If it wasn't for you, she would still be here!" The only way to stop the crazy woman without engaging in a fight was to get her exhausted, so she ran as fast as she could around the park until Max could no longer keep up. She too got tired so she stood behind a park bench to maintain their distance.
"Amy is alive." As expected, she needed to repeat herself multiple times.
"No, she won't."
Amy? Lucy quickly locked herself in the bathroom. "How are you?"
"When are you coming back?"
"Scud said…you're moving out?" She knew it would happen eventually; she also knew she wouldn't be able to control her heart from aching when it does.
"Max…she wants me to move in with her."
There's uncertainty in her voice so that's a good sign. "Why don't you stay with Janet and Scud? I have things to do. I won't be coming back." It broke her heart just to say the last sentence. But if it will get her to stay with Janet and Scud, then she'll do whatever to make her stay.
"What do you mean you're not coming back?"
"You don't have to move. Just stay with Janet and Scud. They can look after you."
"Lucy, answer my question! When are you coming back?!" Amy said louder, no longer gentle.
It feels good to hear those words. It means she cares. It means she wants me back…but as a friend not her lover...
London
"What did she say?" Janet asked in a worried tone. Amy no longer has the phone against her ear so Lucy must have hung up.
The night out with Max was fun. Sleep was what Amy had in mind before overhearing Scud's conversation with Lucy on the opposite side of the door. Something was wrong with Lucy's behavior at the airport. No one noticed, but she did. Now everything made sense. "No…"
"What?" Janet asked in confusion.
"It wasn't at the airport. Did you tell her what I said that night, at the Cupid Capsule?" Since they didn't, then Lucy must have… "Damn it. She wasn't drunk that night."
"Whaaat?" Janet said, scratching her head.
Scud is still confused since he saw no reason for Lucy to pretend to be drunk. "What did she do that night?"
"Nothing."
Okaaaay…. It would've made sense if Lucy did something so since she didn't, then… "What did you do?" Scud asked, still confused with Lucy's intention.
"Nothing. I…I just…told her…how I…felt."
"Ohhh…" So Janet didn't sleep with her. …That's why…
"Oh my god…" Janet covered her mouth in shock. "I knew I wouldn't have been able to take her pants off so easily. She wasn't drunk. She was pretending."
"Scud, she…told me to stay here. She's not coming back."
"What? What the hell is she talking about?" Scud was about to call Lucy back until he heard:
"She's not coming back…until I can remember her…"
Ohhh…that's why. She knew this was coming. She knew it would happen sooner or later. The only way to prevent Amy from moving out is move out before Amy does.
Damn you, Lucy…why do you always do this?
After getting herself together, Lucy didn't bother to put on a fake smile since Uncle Nick and Anthony probably would see right thru her. Besides, in the situation she's in, there's nothing to smile about so why not go out to have some fun like Anthony suggested.
"You're being ridiculous. Nobody is going to recognize you."
With a fake beard, glasses and hair tied in the back, she turned to look at Anthony who himself has a fake beard on. She can see why he needs to. She also expected him to know why she needs to disguise herself as a man.
"Just want to be careful. You never know who you'll run into."
"Can you even dance in that?"
It's difficult to look like a man with a slim body. Thank goodness it's cold outside. The shirt, sweater, blazer and a pair of jeans are able to cover her private areas and made her upper body look more bulky. Besides, with this crowd size in the night club, it would be difficult to tell with this dim lighting.
"over there…"
Music is so loud, she can hardly hear what Anthony is saying. She followed with 2 bodyguards following them to the dance floor.
"Have fun. Okay! " Anthony said loudly. That's what he's here for, to forget, to loosen up, to enjoy a night without any worries.
Getting a dance partner isn't difficult. Dance floor is filled. Besides, with Anthony's good looks and physique, he has no problem attracting women near him. No words exchanged. Everyone is having fun, dancing to the beat of the music. That is until a woman got too close. Bumping into each other can be avoided but Lucy can see what caused this young woman with the medium length straight brown hair to accidentally bump into her. Others around her weren't paying attention. Apology isn't necessary and certainly no need to talk. She's here to clear her mind and hopefully to find Anthony a date to take his mind off the megastar. Unfortunately, this woman is not a good candidate. Not that she's not pretty, she's just not Anthony's type unlike her friend who seems to be more open and clearly flirting with Anthony now.
"…It's my first time here."
Lucy heard despite the loud music. Responding would give her the wrong idea so she didn't and instead just nodded while continuing to move to the beat.
"What about you?"
Hint taken. Unfortunately, she's not in the mood so she again she just nodded since she doesn't want to be rude.
"I'm going to get a drink."
Lucy responded by moving her head up and down again, then continued dancing with no one else in particular. It's so crowded. It really doesn't matter if she's dancing by herself. She's unaware that the woman she was dancing with a while ago is expecting her to follow along until her friend, the blonde whom Anthony is dancing with, tilted her head. Oh. There she is, sitting by herself at the bar, looking at her.
"He's not looking for a relationship."
Thanks Anthony. That sounds better than not being interested. Most likely, she got the hint because she excused herself to be with her friend instead of dancing with Anthony whom she seems to be attracted to. As soon as she left, another moved in front of him. This woman, unlike the other, is aggressive. Not only is she standing close to him, she is touching him, his chest, his waist, his arm, his behind, his…
"Okay, I need a break." Anthony said as he moved off the dance floor. Lucy followed while chuckling all the way to the bar area.
"very funny…" It is. He too can't resist bursting out in laughter. "You…are a magnet."
"Me? You…" Lucy was about to say the same thing about him before the bartender puts a drink in front of her.
"It's from the lady over there."
No words need to be said, she knew what Anthony is thinking of. She also knew that Anthony is waiting for the bartender to leave before saying "Oh my god, she wants you."
"Oh shit..." It'd be impolite to ignore. She also doesn't want to give her any signs that she's interested so she raised her drink and mouthed a 'thank you'. It's not funny so she's not sure why Anthony is still laughing. He should know it's not the first time she got a complimentary drink. However, it's the first time she got a complimentary drink as a guy. "What?"
"You look good."
"ohh..." Maybe it's the long hair tied in the back. Some chics dig that along with the beard.
It has been a very long time since they got together like this, just hanging out. Years. Many things have changed but some things will never change. "Black skirt, boots, three o'clock."
Lucy turned to the direction and nodded in agreement. She's hard to miss. Others are looking as well. "Go for it."
"Yea? You think she'd be interested?"
"You don't know if you don't try." Feels like old times, except this time she's dressed as a guy.
"How do I look?"
"You're going empty-handed?"
"Of course not." Anthony raised his hand to get the bartender's attention and ordered 2 drinks.
There's nothing special about giving a woman a drink so Lucy added something else to his order and also ordered herself a non-alcoholic drink. After doing so, she followed Anthony's line of sight to see what caught his attention. It's the same girl he was previously dancing with which didn't surprise her. They had fun a moment ago. However, she is surprised to be asked why she didn't accept the offered drink.
"I…did." This time, she didn't wait or need Anthony to respond in her place since it would be pretty weird if he did.
"But you didn't drink it."
"Because it has vodka in it." It's the truth but it's also because she's not in the mood for a drink with any type of alcohol in it.
"ohh…"
Lucy is confused until she learned that the one she was dancing with is discouraged by the whole situation, being in a night club for the first time, looking for a date, then getting rejected.
"I'm not looking for a date. I'm just here to have a good time."
"I understand…but can you possibly…talk to her…she thinks it's her."
Lucy looked over to the other end of the bar and saw that the young woman does seem to be in a different mood than before, downing one small glass after another. Whatever she's drinking must be too hot for her to handle since she's sticking her tongue out and making a face after drinking it, yet she still continues to drink it. That behavior is all too familiar. Rescuing women from drinking too much, Lucy has done it before but this has never happened to her before. Is this how girls pick up guys? Since Anthony doesn't have any suggestions, then … "Just tell her what I said." No apology is needed but she got one. Watching the blonde go back to her friend, she can't resist laughing along with Anthony who's making fun of her by raising her brows up and down, obviously thinking of the same thing she is.
"Caitlyn, he said he can't drink that because it has vodka in it."
"Then why was he laughing? Was he laughing at me?"
"No. He said he's not looking for a date. He just came to have a good time." Seeing her friend taking another drink, she stopped her from doing so. "It's okay if he's not interested. Everyone gets rejected at least once. If we all stopped looking after getting rejected, then this place would be empty."
"Then what's wrong with me?"
"There's nothing wrong with you."
Both turned towards the unexpected voice from behind.
"Want some chicken tenders?" Lucy put the plate down in front of the young woman who appears to be surprised as her friend is. That's what she ordered for Anthony but she decided to use it for a good cause.
"I'm going to the bathroom."
Lucy took the seat from the blonde who obviously got the hint.
"What's your name?"
"Like I said before, I'm just here to have a good time. But if you really want a name, you can call me anything you like…a jackass, bastard, jerk, idiot…" Lucy paused after succeeded in making the young woman laugh. "…Tim, Luke, David…take your pick."
"Okay Luke, where are you from?"
"Not here." Lucy is surprised with her choice and takes a bite of chicken tender. "I want to thank you for noticing me when there are dozens of handsome guys out there."
"Do you want to know why?"
"Sure."
"Because you look different from them."
Oh shit. Don't tell me she can tell. "Like how?"
"There is something about you that's just…different."
Oh..."Well, I also noticed there is something about you too that's different." Lucy complimented on her clothing choice compared to the rest of the woman dressed in skimpy clothes. "But to be honest, I think if you really want to find a date, this is not the place to be."
"I know. I just came...because she wants to."
Oh, makes sense but "Do you mind if I give you another advice?" As expected, she doesn't. "Next time, if you find someone you're interested in, don't order him Sex on the Beach, it would give him the wrong idea." Seeing her jaws dropped instantly confused her until she learned that it was her friend who ordered it and she had no idea what she ordered.
"I can't believe she did that."
No need to be embarrassed. It is funny though.
"I..."
Ohhh… Feeling the urge to vomit is what usually happens after drinking too much. Going outside is a good choice. The restroom would be too far for her to make it. Where is she? With this crowd, it would be difficult to find her blonde friend so she followed just to make sure the young woman is okay. It's cold and dark out. There's a line? Not a long one but it will be eventually. Looking left then right, Lucy proceeded in that direction since the alley near there is a good spot to vomit amongst other things. No one is taking a leak, thank goodness. No one is using the alley to make out either. If there was, they probably left. "Hey, are you okay?"
"I think I got it all out."
Oh good. A dark alley isn't a good place to be even if there are people walking by. "whoah…you okay?" Lucy wasn't fast enough but it's only small fall, she'll be okay.
"fine…just being clumsy…"
Walking on uneven pavement with 2 inch heels on after having too much to drink can be difficult. Lucy assisted, allowing the young woman to hang her arm around her shoulder for support until her entire body suddenly stiffened, her scream can't be heard, she's helpless in saving herself, let alone the young woman who also collapsed on the hard surface of the dirty pavement.
