[START RECORDING]

(How is your trainee? I can imagine it being difficult for you since you also have to worry about fighting.)

Elena: Tenang, Bibi Mayuri. Sedikit pemalu. (Relax, Aunt Mayuri. I'm used to it. Being a trainer isn't so bad, plus she is a good girl. Just a bit shy.)

Mayuri: Apakah begitu? (Is that so? I mean, it just seems like a lot to handle for someone such as yourself.)

Jangan khawatir (I had two other younger brothers who were much worse. Don't worry.)

Mayuri: Nah, jika Anda berkata begitu. Apakah Anda menerima paket saya? (Well, if you say so. Did you receive my package?)

Elena: Roti naan? (The Naan bread? Yeah, I got it. That's definitely one thing I miss from back home.)

(I knew you would love it. I thought you'd want something different other than sweets this time.)

Elena: Hehe. (To be honest, the desserts here aren't that great.)

(Well, it looks like I got things to do. I'll talk to you again soon, Auntie.)

Mayuri: Hati-hati, anakku. Semoga damai. (Take care, my child. Be at peace.)

Elena: Terima kasih. Semoga damai. (Thanks. Be at peace.)

[Elena's phone beeps as the call ends]

Fleur: I didn't know you spoke another language.

Elena: Oh, that? Yeah, that was Bahasa you just heard.

Fleur: Bahasa?

Elena: It's an old pre-Exodus language. Dohans and other people around the Jenja region speak it.

Fleur: Wow. You're the first person from the Jenja region I've met, and this is my first time hearing it ever! Um, is it difficult to learn it?

Elena: It can be a bit of a mouthful for newcomers. I grew up speaking it when I was a kid, but my parents also spoke the Common language.

Fleur: Which one would you say is harder?

Elena: Probably Bahasa. Very tongue twisty, especially when you're speaking in huge sentences.

Fleur: Yeah, it really sounds like you're saying a mouthful, heh.

Elena: Tell me about it.

Fleur: Um… Je parle aussi une autre langue. (I speak another language as well.)

Elena: Whoa, ho ho!

Fleur: It's Francois.

Elena: Oh, I know. I learned a bit of Francois back in school, but it was only like very basic stuff.

Fleur: I mean, you're not missing much between that and the Common language.

Elena: But still, I think it's cool you speak another language other than Common!

Fleur: Vraiment? (Really?)

Elena: Oui (Yes). Is, uh, is that right? Oui (Yes).

Fleur: *chuckles* It's one of the easiest words to know!

Elena: I mean, that's like one of the few words I know.

Fleur: Hmmhmm. Well, hmm. Let's see… Ĉu vi povas kompreni ĉi tion? (Can you understand this?)

Elena: Um, what?

Fleur: It's Esperanto. We speak it a lot in Troubadour. Probable pli bone sondas ol Francois aŭ Bahasa. (Probably better sounding than Francois or Bahasa)

Soichiro: I think they both sound really cool.

[Footsteps are heard approaching from the end of the hallway]

Elena: Oh! Little man! How you been?

[Elena and Soichiro's high-five echo in the hallway]

Soichiro: Dad is in a meeting and Gramps is busy working on stuff, so I'm just going around the base.

Elena: Oh, Fleur, let me introduce you. This is Soichiro, Dr. Fukai's grandson.

Fleur: How do you do?

Soichiro: Ne tro malbona. Ĉu vi mem? (Not so bad. Yourself?)

Fleur: Rien beaucoup. Vous parlez François et Espéranto? (Nothing much. You speak Francois and Esperanto?)

Soichiro: Oui, et un couple de plus. Toi? (Yeah, and a couple more. You?)

Fleur: Um… Chi di Corsa? (What about Corsican?)

Soichiro: U mo dadia avia staccatu in Cocorico quandu era petite. (My dad was stationed in Cocorico when I was little)

Fleur: A me mamma era di Cocorico. (My mother was from Cocorico. She taught me a little bit, but I taught myself the rest.)

Elena: Uh, okay, guys. You can cut it out now. This isn't the Union of Regions.

Fleur: Hehe, sorry.

Soichiro: Yeah, we got carried away, didn't we?

Elena: No worries, guys, but… Fleur… I didn't know you were multilingual.

Fleur: My mother used to be a translator for the Federation until the Second Summer of Love. After that, she became a language teacher when she and my father moved to Nimbus. Both my parents knew how to speak multiple languages, but my father was always married with work, so… at least my mother taught me during her free time. I thought it'd be a cool party trick to be that one person to speak different languages, and I figured it'd be useful down the road when I get lost somewhere.

Soichiro: How many languages can you speak?

Fleur: Um… Common, Esperanto, Francois, Corsican, Interglossa, Volapuk, Mundolinco.

Soichiro: Sugoi! (Amazing)

Elena: But you can't speak Bahasa.

Fleur: No. Not yet.

Elena: Hey, it might probably be useful. Maybe you could be the one to tell the PLF to get the hell out of my town.

Fleur: Probably, but I think I'll need guns just in case.

Soichiro: Lots of them. From Gramps, of course.

Elena: Oh, yeah, that reminds me. Kid, I love your Gramps, but sometimes the things he makes scares the crap out of me.

Soichiro: Really? I think they're cool!

Elena: Yeah, but you see… when I shoot bad guys from my LFO, I want it to be a clean kill. I don't want to see little robot nanites creep inside the poor guy's mech and devour him from the cockpit. Seriously, imagine the mess you have to clean up from that! Or what about that extremely high-density trapar scout rifle?

Soichiro: I mean, you can finally shoot lasers.

Elena: Yeah, but the poor guy has to suffer from extreme radiation poisoning if he survives the blast. As if putting him out of his misery wasn't enough for him.

Soichiro: Dude, you're a soldier. Why would you care about how people die?

Elena: If you're gonna die in battle, you might as well get shot in the head and get it over with. Quick and painless beats slow and grueling. Besides, you know how traumatizing it'd be to see blood and guts everywhere inside a guy's cockpit?

Soichiro: Oh… yuck.

Elena: I rest my case. So… what you got there?

Soichiro: Oh, this? Just my notebook and some books.

Fleur: Is that for homework?

Soichiro: Nah. Notebook's for drawing and the books are for fun.

Fleur: You draw?

Soichiro: Yeah, dad and Gramps do a lot of drawing, and someday I wanna be like them when I grow up. Plus, I like whatever's popular on the library.

Elena: Hmm. Unholy Wars, Return of the Phasma… Golden Bough?

Soichiro: Oh, this? Yeah, this is actually Gramps'. but I've been reading it recently. Lots of interesting things to talk about here.

Elena: Heh. Never pictured you to be the type to read books like that at your age.

[Footsteps are heard approaching from the end of the hallway]

Elena: Hey, kiddo.

Naru: Hey.

Elena: Have you met Dr. Fukai's grandkid yet?

Soichiro: Hi. I'm Soichiro!

Naru: Uh… Naru.

Soichiro: I, uh, hear you're the best pilot of Generation Bleu.

Elena: *mutters* Thanks to yours truly.

Naru: Uh, well, I guess they all say that... Is that The Golden Bough?

Soichiro: Yeah. What about it?

Naru: My, uh, father used to have that book.

Soichiro: Oh.

Naru: It's… an interesting read.

Soichiro: Yeah… it is.

Elena: So, what's going on with you?

Naru: Just… going outside to ref.

Elena: I feel you. So, how about those new toys?

[Naru's footsteps are heard gradually fainting as she walks away from the group]

Elena: Luar biasa, gadis ini! (Unbelievable, this girl!)

Soichiro: Is she always this distant?

Elena: *sigh* Kind of. It's a long story.

Fleur: Well, I'm beat. You guys wanna head to the food court?

Elena: Yeah, I'm starving. Takoyaki and beer?

Fleur: No, and no. I want fish and chips, and I don't want a repeat of what happened last time.

Soichiro: What happened last time?

Fleur: It's a long story.

A/N – Soichiro Fukai does not exist in Eureka Seven: AO, as it is never mentioned that Toshio had children or grandkids (other than Ao if you count him). He is an OC.
