Who screamed and will Jack make it in time to save her? What did Jack's dad mean when he said 'even if it isn't over'?

CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT

KIM'S POV (20 minutes previous)

The doctor came in and went over my X-rays with me. He said that I definitely needed to take it easier for a little while. He said that I had not rebroken anything at this time, but that there was so much scar tissue from previous injuries that the pain had to be excruciating. He had spoken to my doctors back at home and they wanted me to start wearing my brace when I was not on stage or having pictures taken. I was given strict instructions that I was to discontinue any and all karate training, which meant no more sparring. They said it was too risky! I was also being put back on some of my pain meds until I could get home for another check up.

They sent specific instructions for my physical therapy and limitations which the doctor gave to Rudy. I was getting a scolding look from him and he promised that everything would be done by the book from now on. Between Rick and Rudy, I knew I was in big trouble. It was like having two over protective father figures that were both upset with me for keeping my pain to myself.

I looked at all of them and said, "I promise that I will follow the list to the letter and I will not keep anything from you again about my health. I need these jobs to support us, but I have to be healthy too." I smiled my best smile and I could see their anger was melting slightly, but I still had a lot of work to do.

I excused myself to go to the restroom before we headed out to lunch. Everyone started that direction except for Kai and Carson. They refused to leave me so they waited outside the restroom so that they could help me walk to the cafeteria. I finished and went to wash my hands when someone came up behind me and grabbed me.

Before I knew what was happening, he had me in a headlock and was squeezing way too tight. I balanced my weight on my bad leg and stomped on his foot as hard as I could with my good one. I turned to face him and we started fighting. Carson and Kai must have heard our scuffle from outside the door because they barged in and started to take over the fight until four more guys came in the room, too.

They were completely dressed in black and even had ski masks on their faces. The guys were doing the best they could, but there were too many of them and so I had to fight, too. I actually couldn't feel much pain in my leg at the moment which I am sure was due to the amount of adrenaline and fear running through my body. I had two guys after me when I grabbed the door and ran into the hallway.

This ended up being an even bigger mistake because there were six more guys waiting out there. I kept fighting with my first attacker and trying to keep the others away from me as well. I was quickly joined by Carson and Kai who must have knocked their opponents out. We stood in the middle of these nine attackers with our backs to one another. Rudy and Rick must have heard the commotion because I saw them running down the hall toward us to help.

We were holding our own, but this was a lot of opponents for the three of us, especially when I was injured. I continued to strike at my attacker and dodged all of his attempts at me. It wasn't until he obviously noticed that I was favoring my leg that he changed his attack strategy. He tried to sweep my legs out from underneath me, but I jumped up and was able to balance myself against Kai's back.

When I landed, I jumped up and did a round house kick with my good leg and hit him square in the chest. This knocked him back and caused another one of our attackers to take over. I was alright for a moment, but then the first one joined us, too.

Rudy and Rick were trying very hard to fight their way to us, but unbelievably four more guys came around the corner and started fight them to keep them away from us. Some close by students joined us and the odds were a little more even at thirteen bad guys to the eight of us. I was getting really tired of this and had to get rid of these guys. I didn't think anymore. I just reacted to each move that they made. I lightly balanced on my leg to see how bad it felt and then jumped forward toward my attackers. I kicked the first one right in the throat and he went down.

The second one was coming at me so I had no choice, but to swing my body around still while in the air and kick him with my other leg across the face. He was out cold, but the amount of pain that ran up my leg and through my body caused me to fall to the ground for a second and that was all it took for three of them who had hurt the three students pretty badly to come running up to me. Two of them grabbed me and ran into the doctor's office with the third one following. They locked the door and tied me up. Something was put over my face that smelled awful and that is when everything went dark!

KAI'S POV

I could see the pain that Kim was in and I was trying to get to her, but my opponent was very skilled. All Jack had asked me to do was to keep her and the kids safe and I was not going to fail at that. As I watched three of them grab her and carry her into the doctor's office, I knew I had to end this fight now. I saw the same look on Carson's face and we both attacked with more force than we ever have before. These guys would just not go down.

"Go after her!" Carson yelled at me. "I will deal with both of them!"

I didn't even have time to think about what that might mean for him. I ran toward the door and started working on finding any way to get in. I kicked the door down and when I got to the other side; I was just in time to see the last guy drop down out of the window. I stuck my head out and watched their SUV drive away with Kim in it. There was nothing I could do. I turned around just in time to see Rudy, Rick, and Carson all run into the room.

"Where is she?" Rudy asked.

"They took her down through this window. They were really good. This window is three stories up. This was a well executed plan. I saw their SUV and got the plate. We need to make a call and see what we can get out of the guys that were left behind." I said to them.

"I need all of that information right now so that I can call it in." Rick said as he was dialing the police. He made the call and told them everything that had happened. "They are on their way. There is just something that doesn't make sense about this to me! Why would guys that skilled be coming after Kim?"

"I don't know, but we have to find her." Rudy replied with such sadness in his voice.

We were all exhausted and really worried about Kim. As we walked back out into the hallway to tie up the ones we had defeated, we were stunned to see that all of them had disappeared. I walked over to check on our classmates who were all sitting up against the wall pretty badly beaten.

The other two security guards had not been able to keep a hold of Kassie because she was standing there starring at all of us. "Where is Mommy?" she asked.

We all looked at her and then at each other. She ran past us into the doctor's office and we followed her quickly. Rudy bent down and picked her up. "Kassie, those men took Kim. We are going to find her and she will be fine, but we couldn't stop them this time. I am sorry."

Kassie started screaming louder than any kid I had ever heard before. It was the most blood curdling scream I have ever heard. Rudy just held her and tried to calm her down the best that he could, but it was not working. She was hysterical.

JACK'S POV

I was running faster than I had ever run in my life. I knew that my life depended on me getting to her and finding out what had scared her so badly. Kassie was just a little girl what in the world could have scared her so much that she would scream like that. As soon as the thought had made it into my mind, my dad's words flew through again…'even if it isn't over!' What had he done?

There was only one thing that would make Kassie scream like that and it was losing Kim and I can't lose KIM! I somehow picked up more speed and made it to where all of them were standing trying to soothe Kassie enough for her to stop screaming, but it wasn't working. I came in and could tell that they had all been fighting. I took Kassie into my arms and immediately scanned the room for Kim…she wasn't there!

"What happened? Where is Kim?" I asked scared to death that I was too late just like in Kassie's nightmares.

My dad came running in the room and looked around in shock. "What happened?" He asked.

I wanted so badly to shout at him, but right now I needed to calm Kassie and find out what I could. I knew he knew exactly what had happened and I would get it out of him.

"Jack, we were waiting outside of the bathroom for Kim. We heard her start fighting with someone and we went in. She was fighting with a guy in all black and a ski mask. Carson and I started to jump in when four more guys came at us. We were all fighting and Kim made a break for it out the door, but there were more guys out here. We knocked two of them out and then came out to help her. Rudy and Rick came back to help us and some of our classmates, too. But more of them just kept coming, too. They were really skilled fighters. We knocked some of them out and Kim was fighting pretty hard. She jumped up and kicked one of them in the throat and he went down. She was doing good until the next one came at her and she decided to kick him with her bad leg. He went down too, but so did she. Three of the others grabbed her and they took her with them out this window before we could get in here." Kai looked at me with such pain in his face. He really felt bad and then he continued. "Jack, these guys were highly trained. It was unbelievable!" Kai looked over at my dad and then back at me.

I knew what he was telling me and I had already thought it myself. My mom walked in and came over to try to help with Kassie. She didn't know for sure what had happened, but she hated to see anyone this upset. When she looked in my eyes, I knew that she could see the pain that I was in, but there was nothing I could do.

"I already called the police and they are on their way. We will find her!" Rick said trying to reassure both Kassie and I.

My mom looked into my eyes with shock. "Kim?" she asked.

I just nodded my head and felt a tear run down my cheek. She reached up and wiped it away. "Oh Jack, I am so sorry. We will help however we can!" she said.

"I want Mommy!" Kassie started screaming over and over again.

I lifted her little chin and looked into her eyes and said, "I want her, too! I will find her, Kassie! I promise you that I will not stop until I do!" I tightened my arms around her and looked up at my dad with disgust in my eyes.

He had a look of regret in his eyes and started to say something, but then stopped himself. I looked around the room and couldn't believe that this had happened. Kassie looked up at me and started to quiet down. She asked the one thing that I was thinking myself. "Jackie, why did you weave her? I towd you that this was coming!" And she started crying again.

"I know, princess. I am so sorry! I know that Kim is ok and I WILL find her!" I hugged her again and she cried into my chest. I will not lose Kim and I will not let these kids lose her either. I just kept thinking the same thing over and over in my head as I walked over to the window and looked out at the tracks left from the car that took her away. "Kim, you promised me you weren't going anywhere and I still really need you to keep that promise! I love you, Kim! Hold on because I am coming for you!" I whispered to her and I knew that she could hear me! I don't know how, but I knew she was thinking about us right now and that she wasn't going to let anyone keep her from us for very long.
