Chapter 38: The Man Named "OS".
A mysterious man he is…
-(The World's Fangs Towers/Venomous Group HQ)-
(Third-Person View)
The sun was finally rising up at the White Fang's Venomous Group Headquarters. Everyone was mostly asleep while some were still outside the island on their missions given by the boss known as Ulysses. Usually, his group never fails to impress the White Fang and their powerful leaders. That's because they were called to do the dirty work. Anyway, squadrons of White Fang Bullhead were still on standby, awaiting from the call of their agents, or Ulysses informing them to transport supplies.
Inside Ulysses' office, he was already seated on his desk as he was currently on the line with another person on the phone. His expression didn't seem though as he didn't like what he was hearing on the phone. His left fist clenched angrily as his right looked like he was about to crush the phone with his bare hand. After listening to what he was called for, he breathed in deeply and sat down, acting relaxed. Until…
*SLAM!*
"May I get you another cup, sir?" A woman asked him right next to the main desk.
"You may. Thank you." Ulysses sighed loudly and tapped his fingers on the phone. His face displayed intense anger and frustration after something went through to tell him.
The doors opened, showing two twin brothers waltz in, chatting brightly while laughing.
"Hey Ulysses, sir!" One of them greeted.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" Ulysses asked angrily.
Both the twins flinched by the tone of his voice, knowing something bad happened with their boss that caused him to be in a very angry mood.
The woman sighed and stepped forward. "My apologies, Brutus and Bruno. But Ulysses isn't really in a good mood to hear about what you both have to say."
"Yeah. We just heard it the loud way." Brutus chuckled nervously.
"Tell me what do you want, or I'll hang you both in the top floor over the edge!" He gritted his teeth tightly.
"We just wanted to say 'Good Morning', sir!" Bruno said while shaking like a leaf.
Ulysses sighed loudly. "Whatever. Good morning."
"Hehehe… uh…" Brutus chuckled nervously and looked at the woman. "So, are we allowed to know why the boss isn't feeling chilled this morning?"
Ulysses decided to tell them himself as he looked at the two and sighed again. "Agent Llyweilun was killed during his mission to assassinate Blake Belladonna, one of the most notorious traitors our kind has produced in this organization."
"Llyweilun? Wait a minute, you mean Llyweilun himself? As in 'Garmr' in the Venomous Group?" Brutus asked.
"Of course you idiot!"
"Okay, okay!" Brutus jumped back and have a nervous smile, hoping not to annoy him even more.
The woman cleared her throat and began to head towards the exit while telling Ulysses, "Sir, I gotta make a call to Agent Garrison to check on her progress in Atlas."
"The Red Stalker? Well, okay then. Take your time." Ulysses said.
"Thank you." Was the last thing she said before closing the door.
Ulysses went back to his attention on the two twins and rubbed his head then stood up from his chair and asked, "Boys, do you still remember why I trained you and all the other agents to become the most feared assassins in all of Remnant?"
"Is it because… you like controlling a group of badasses like us?" Brutus grinned.
"No offense to you two. But you're my least favorite agents in this entire group because you both act like a bunch of stupid childish kids."
"Oh, come on. I'm not that stupid anyway."
"You once brought a water gun during a heist." Bruno glared at his brother.
"Hey, water is lethal too, you know."
"No it's not!"
"Oh yeah? Then why is it that you can drown by water!"
"A water gun isn't enough to be a lethal weapon, stupid."
"Yeah, well… your face is stupid!"
"ZIP IT!" Ulysses ordered.
"Sorry!" The two twin brothers stopped.
Ulysses sighed and facepalmed. "You two have got to be the most immature teenagers I have ever met."
"If you analyze more deeper at our background, you'll see who is the MOST immature." Bruno pointed his thumb at Brutus with an annoyed expression.
"Says the guy who always threw his stuffed animals at me." Brutus rolled his eyes.
"That was when we were little, stupid."
"The damage has been done, brother. We can't change the past!"
"Boys," Ulysses interrupted them. "how about you both take a seat and play the quiet game or something else that won't burst my veins." His tone sounded calm and fresh than his anger from earlier.
"Yes, sir. No problem. I can do this." Bruno grinned.
"Bruno talked. He lost."
"What? That's not fair!"
"I know you are, but what am I?"
"SHUT UP!" Ulysses roared, resulting the two brothers to immediately sit down and stay silent.
Things weren't going well with Ulysses at all. He was informed that Llyweilun was killed, Blake is still alive, Datark Island has been liberated by Vale's military, and he had to deal with the two annoying twins in the same morning. To get his head cooled down, he began to walk around his office while staring out the glass windows, staring at a stunning view of the entire small island and the twin fang building next to the one he was in. He took out a cigar and a lighter to begin his smoking as it significantly calmed him down. While smoking, he continued to walk in circled while his cigar smoke was scented all over his office.
Knowing now is not the time to say anything, Brutus and Bruno just remained silent like they were hiding from their boss, hoping he wouldn't do anything to them once he passed by the, in their seats. If they get him angry again, they know they're going to get something they'll regret from Ulysses. He is the man that controls the most dangerous assassins in the White Fang, and is one of the organization's official leaders. Another screw up can perhaps make them face certain death, which made them shake nervously.
After shouting loudly to let Brutus and Bruno stay quiet, the phone on Ulysses' desk began to ring loudly. Ulysses put his cigar on his glass ashtray and picked up the phone as Brutus and Bruno just listened.
"Who is this?" Ulysses asked.
"Death has come to say 'Hello', sir." The familiar voice said from the other side of the phone.
"Ammit," Ulysses sat down in his chair. "How's the Mistral Canal treating you?"
"It's a bit stormy out here. But I don't mind it."
"Situation report on your mission." He ordered.
"We successfully boarded the merchant vessel and have easily disabled the crew members and the guards. And it seems you were right about the delivery of weapons on this piece of junk. I count around fifty crates of ammunition, multiple weapons cases that I can't even keep count of, and a bonus of grand amounts of money. We'll be arming the charges soon enough." Ammit kept it brief.
"Good. Make sure that Atlas doesn't receive any of those weapons, Ammit. Each delivery means General Ironwood will be one step closer to wiping us out."
"Why not just pick up all these useful items and use it to increase our efficiency?"
"Too high profile for our Bullheads to pick up the supplies. Sometimes, we have to sacrifice something to prevent the enemy from getting the upper hand by the supplies. If Atlas gets them, they'll become even more tough."
"Not as tough as The Drahen Empire. They're more of a hermit kingdom, which makes Atlas unaware of their technology, thanks to their order and economy."
"Just remember Ammit, get the job done."
-(Merchant Vessel near the Mistral Canal)-
"Yes, Ulysses. Consider our mission to be accomplished." Ammit hung up from a phone he used from an injured guard in the floor. He threw it at him and looked at the captain of the ship. "Basilisk, you may proceed."
"It wasn't wise to fight back, fool."
Inside the merchant vessel's bridge, The Four Horsemen team was searching for any more information if possible. One guard was on the ground severely injured, and the captain of the vessel was tied up on a chair with a bomb strap on his body with tape in his mouth to prevent him from speaking. The injured guard tried to get up and fight back, but suffered from bullet wounds on his arms and torso, barely hitting his vital organs. The captain was so terrified that he shook uncontrollably, fearing that he will either get executed by The Four Horsemen, or explode by the bomb on him.
Ammit grinned while staring down at the guard, who was glaring back at him. "I remember you. Weren't you the fellow that used your knife to stab me in the throat two years ago?"
"I thought you were dead!" The guard glared at Ammit.
"Even if you kill me, I'll just come back like what everyone says every time. I am a recidivist, after all." Ammit smiled.
The guard took out his firearm and delivered a shot on Ammit's forehead, causing him to drop the guard and fall on his back from the force. His Four Horsemen team took out their weapons and prepared themselves to slaughter the man. But, Ammit raised his hand and hit up without any struggle, even though he was shot directly in the forehead.
"Lost a life. But I still got thousands left to use." He grinned and stomped the guard down.
"H-How did you…"
"I've been arrested, shot at, and executed many times throughout these years, and I always returned like I'm immune to death, and ceaseless from killing more lives." Ammit said while he lifted his Devil's Sins wand, which was made of a strange material.
Basilisk stepped forward and kicked the guard on the floor again. "You may call him the 'Philosopher's Stone' because of his immortality and his weapon. Or perhaps the Leader of the Four Horsemen; Death. Or just a recidivist, because he'll just keep coming back for more."
The guard chuckled and shook his head. "I'll see you down there when the time comes, Ammit."
"Too bad." Ammit stabbed the guard's left leg as he screamed in pain. "Haven't you heard what Basilisk said? I've obtained immortality way before your pathetic birth even happened. Hence where some call me the 'Philosopher's Stone' for achieving it."
"H-How…?"
"I'm afraid that's a secret you'll never know." Ammit smiled and finished him off by stabbing his heart and skull, penetrating through the brain.
"How sad." Basilisk rolled his eyes, not meaning what he said. "They just cleaned up this bridge. And he didn't live long enough to see it all."
"If I may ask, how long have you been alive?" Asag asked.
"Let's just say, for quite a long while." Ammit chuckled.
The captain's muffled voice from the tape covering his mouth got Ammit's attention as he removed the tape roughly, making the captain grit his teeth in pain.
"What is it this time, maggot?" Basilisk glared.
"Okay. Let's make a deal. My freedom, for me to let you take all of these supplies for your own purposes. What do you say? The ship will be all yours!" The captain tried to make a deal with the Four Horsemen.
Ammit laughed and patted his head. "We're not here to take all of your supplies. We're here to destroy them."
"What?"
"Sorry, buddy. But the deal you had to offer is not going to happen in the last minutes of your life." Asag grinned evilly.
"Y-You don't have to do all this!" The captain tried to break free from the ropes.
"Oh? Why is that? You don't have the right to judge us for what we want to do." Vapula shook his head.
"I'm not taking orders from a weaker human like you!" Basilisk punched the captain, knocking him unconscious.
Ammit chuckled and opened the door, allowing his team to exit first. "Come. Let's get off this tin can and enjoy the fireworks."
"I could smell that delicious scent of human flesh being burnt." Vapula drooled.
"May I comment, Vapula on how much you can disgust me sometimes?" Basilisk shuttered.
Ammit shut the door and held the detonator in his hands as him an his team went outside to see the stormy weather was still covering the morning skies. Which is the reason why the merchant vessel was unable to immediately head for Atlas to accomplish their delivery. His entire team didn't mind the rain at all. They thought it'll match the tragedy of this ship's destruction that was going to happen in a matter of minutes. As the half-awake city of Mistral from the distance, Ammit and his team stood on the edge of the ship and prepared themselves from diving in the water before the explosion happens.
"My friends," Ammit smirked at the three. "it's time to put an end to this thing. Are we set?"
Basilisk, Vapula, and Asag nodded as they awaited his word. Before Ammit can detonate the explosives, he felt a sudden gust if wing blow on his hand with the remote. He looked up and noticed his detonator was cleanly sliced in half. The other half fell into the water as Ammit held onto the other, in shock by what just happened.
"What's wrong?" Vapula asked. "I don't smell burnt flesh yet."
"Damn it! The detonator!" Ammit threw it in the water and jumped down on the deck.
"Oh brother…. What happened now?!" Basilisk asked.
"Was it like that when you brung it over with you?"
"Of course it wasn't! It was functional even before we were sent out for this area." Ammit sighed frustratingly.
Vapula sniffed the air and smelled something that made him grin. "It appears we have a visitor." He giggled manically.
"Vapula seems happy. So this better be good." Asag took out his double sided sword staff.
The four agents went away from the edge and began to scan the entire deck watching the corners of each container. Since Vapula has the semblance of sensing someone while they're hiding around him so easily, Ammit relied on him for the search for the unknown who was in their presence. If it was just a guard on the ship who somehow successfully escaped, then they wouldn't have to worry about it since they can dispose him so easily. But since Vapula seemed pretty excited when up he sensed their stalker, it was a sign of saying that their opponent was a powerful one, just like Wyvern.
As the search continues, they end up finding no one as Vapula noted that he lost the unknown presence already. Thinking back to their mission, their orders were to destroy this merchant vessel and report back to Ulysses. Leaving the ship active or unscathed wouldn't really make the boss happy. So Ammit decided to think of another plan to destroy the ship. But his thought were interrupted when he felt something strike his back, making him fall on the floor. Basilisk helped him up as Vapula and Asag alertly took out their weapons.
"The hell was that?" Ammit looked at Basilisk.
"You misunderstand. That wasn't me. And…" Basilisk tilted his head and widened his eyes. "There's a knife on your back."
Ammit puts one of his hands behind his back and noticed the handle of a knife, which was indeed behind him. He forcefully took it out and left the healing to his aura and energy he took from the souls he devoured. Having a good look at it, it was a bizarre looking knife with a rather strange style and a green light flashing on the end of the hilt. He flicked his blood off it and saw the tip was glowing yellow.
"Whatcha got there, Ammit?" Asag stared at the knife.
"A knife? Where did you get that?" Vapula asked.
"Behind my back. Now, why in the world is it glo-"
*BOOM!*
The knife exploded, causing the four agents to forcefully get pushed back from the blast. But explosion wasn't big enough to cause a hole in the ship. Shrapnel shattered all over them as it caused some wounds, but not enough to make them stay down on the floor for too long. Mildly bleeding, Vapula got up and sniffed the air again and detected the same scent again. He let out a growl and looked up near the top of the bridge.
"There!" Vapula pointed his finger.
Ammit, Basilisk, and Asag looked up to where Vapula was pointing and saw somebody standing on the railing near the entrance of the bridge.
It was a man wearing some kind of thick black shining armor with a mask made out of the same material he had in his armor, except with some white stripes that kind of looked like it was made of bones, in referencing to the Grimm.
His mask was shaped as a Beowolf's head, had two halves of a Boarbatusk's tusks, two small tips from a King Taijitu's fangs, red dots near the eye slits resembling the many eyes from a Death Stalker, an Ursa's spikes on the sides, and the barbs from the feathers of a Nevermore. Showing one of the most common dangerous Grimms in Remnant, in one mask. His eyes were seen between the eye slit, as the same with his mouth behind the two King Taijitu's fangs.
His cape was waving around from the storm's wind as he jumped down, with a smash that Ammit and his team felt. As he went closer to them, the man revealed some revealed tattoos on his skin. On his palms, he had a diamond shaped tattoo with different colors in them as they sparkled like the Schnee Company's dust. There was more tattoos in him as it looked like the design was heading up his arm to his neck.
"Who are you? We demand to know who you are for interfering with our mission!" Basilisk growled in attempts to intimidate the strange armored man.
The man's silver eyes scanned the four of them as he put his hands behind his back.
"The Four Horsemen. What a pleasant surprise." He shook his head.
"I said, who are you?!" Basilisk repeated himself again.
This man was actually making the four agents nervous and uneasy because of the amount of energy in him, and that intimidating mask. It made him look like he wasn't human at all.
"Does it matter for who I am?" He tilted his head.
"I'm not here to play games with you."
"That hand shaking isn't really giving me the image that your brave enough to attack if I don't answer, Basilisk. Your father, Baldemar would be pretty disappointed in you for showing your fear towards your opponent." The man said.
Basilisk's eyes widened in shock, hearing that this man has heard of his father. "What did you just say?"
"I suppose he even showed fear during his fight with his two fellow zhulongs, Xavior and Charlotte. I'm glad they killed him to prevent his dream of becoming the the leader the zhulongs, just so he can attack humanity and the faunus."
He growled and dashed towards him to deliver a punch. "Don't you ever talk about my father, you imbecile!" Basilisk's punch was easily blocked by the man as he was punched back so forcefully, his body pushed the containers a bit.
"You're a fool. Zhulongs don't have to be the most powerful race in all of Remnant. Don't get too full of yourself." The man glared.
"And don't be coy to tell us your name." Asag said.
"You can call me 'OS'."
"Good. Now we can remember that name after you die." Asag picked up his sword as the others did.
OS materialized his weapon from his hands, revealing it to be a Zanbatō Sword; a huge wide blade attached to a black diamond hilt. The large blade was exotically styled with strange symbols that none of the Four Horsemen never recognized. About how he materialized his huge sword out of nowhere, it was like it was made of dust that he kept somewhere in his black armor.
"Oh my god…" Vapula's eyes widened by the size of his sword.
"My blade has the quality of being so deadly, that I can slice an entire Goliath in half with just one swing." OS smirked as he showed them extended the length of his blade as more dust piled on it. But reverted it back to the same size he had it before.
"I have to admit, that's really impressive." Ammit commented.
"You'll be getting a chance to fight with the Destruction's Creator." OS referenced the name of his Zanbatō.
"How exciting!" Vapula leaped towards OS, but was easily caught and thrown back to Basilisk and Asag really quickly.
Ammit growled and took out his wand to turn it into a greatsword, almost similar to OS' Zanbatō. He swiped and delivered a few swings, but were quickly blocked by the overwhelmingly large and resistant blade of OS' Destruction's Creator. At one point, OS swung his entire blade with one hand, and shattered Ammit's blade. Some of the shrapnel hit his eyes as he covered them, but was grabbed while OS was flipping towards him, then smashed on the cold metal deck like a hammer.
OS sensed another attack behind him and saw Vapula heading towards him with his polearm. Swinging his huge blade to deflect his attack, his pressed one of the buttons he had on his handle and made his blade get surrounded by ice, making Vapula's arm and his weapon stuck inside. He swung him around and attacked Basilisk, Asag, and Ammit with it, then made the ice burst, sending in razor sharp ice striking Ammit and his team. OS' armor deflected the razor ice.
As Basilisk became even more angrier, he tossed his ring sword and grazed OS' armor. His blade came back to him like a boomerang as he caught it and spun around inside it, like a top heading towards OS. It was unsuccessful because of OS dodging it. He swiped his Zanbatō at him, but Basilisk evaded in time. The containers were cleanly sliced in half during the process.
This made Asag pop out from behind them and grabbed OS' arm and trapped it. Little did he know, OS' tattoos began to glow as he lifted his hand and placed it on Asag's chest and felt a strong force of fire send him back to the sliced container.
"Damn it…" Asag gritted his teeth and saw his armor's chest piece was partially red hot.
"You three have got to be the most interesting opponents I've ever encountered. Unorthodox to say the least." OS commented about Ammit's three companions.
"Well, you're down to you last words. So speak out, and make it worth it." Ammit glared.
OS put his Zanbatō away by turning it back into dust as the collection was pulled into his armor, making it slightly more resistant than before. He clasped his hands together and made his armor roll up to expose his arms, showing the stunning tattoo designs he had.
"Is my blade too much for you four? I'll be a gentlemen and make it a little more easier for you fellas." OS said while his tattoos began to glow.
"What's he doing?" Vapula stepped back.
"His tattoos are made of dust." Basilisk stated.
"Who's the pawn that wants to go first?" OS' tattoos on his arms glowed even brighter, making his entire body surrounded by a wall of fire by the one he chose. He switched it to ice, electricity, and other various ones, but reverted his wall back to fire.
Ammit grinned and turned his wand into a crossbow and fired multiple shots at him. Vapula, Asag, and Basilisk charged in at the same time and gave OS all they got to strike him, but was unsuccessful to leave a mark because of the elements of dust in his tattoos he was using to take advantage of defending himself to win the fight. Every swing, ammunition, and any kinds of attack wasn't able to hit him at all. It was like OS was at the same level of Wyvern in his stable state.
Basilisk has had enough and aimed his attacks on his face to remove that mask. Unfortunately, he was unable to strike him there when OS let out a huge beam of lighting out of his hand from his dust tattoos. It struck his chest as he could feel the energy draining from him. He hit the floor and remained down unconscious.
Asag saw this and caused him to enrage for watching his teammate getting taken down by their opponent. He dashed towards each side of OS to deliver a few hits, then he went in a safe distance to roll his double sided sword staff, sending in waves of electricity to strike him. When OS had enough, he sent a wave of flames at him, burning his hands a little and dashed towards Asag to drain his energy by using his electric dust tattoos. Asag collapsed and fell on the floor.
Vapula had the perfect opportunity to deliver a piercing blow at his neck. He lifted his polearm and attempted to stab his weapon through his throat, but was grabbed by OS. His silver eyes looked back at him as Vapula actually showed fear for quite some time. His weapon turned red hot because of the tattoos, which made Vapula let go of his weapon.
"What the-?"
"Nice try. But, no." OS smashed both of his hands at Vapula's head and kicked him back between two containers. He froze him in the spot, and kicked one of the containers, making Vapula get smashed between the heavy boxes of metal. He repeated it over and over again until Vapula was no longer conscious.
Ammit tried to turn his weapon back to an appropriate weapon for close quarters combat, but was too late when OS grabbed his neck right on the spot.
"It's been quite some time since we fought like this. And as always, you lose again." OS' electric dust tattoos began to glow.
Ammit screamed in pain as his body shook violently by the electric shock he was getting from him. He could feel the energy from some of the souls he took getting forcefully sucked out and transferring to OS' body. As soon as the agonizing pain subsided, Ammit was dropped to the floor, still shaking.
"How disappointing. After all these years, I was expecting more from you, Ammit." OS kneeled down and looked into his blood red eyes. "Wyvern would've easily beaten you like I did."
Ammit growled and clenched his fists when OS mentioned him. "I won't go easy on you nor him from now on! And how do you know Wyvern?"
"Let's just say I've watched him grow from a infant, to a powerful fighter with good convictions, and a better heart than yours."
Ammit chuckled and looked up to get a good look at his silver eyes, and his small smirk. "Enlighten me, why hide your face behind that intimidating mask that resembles the pieces of the common Grimm?"
"Let's just say that I'm shy around strangers like your little boot lickers. I've killed Grimm for a very long time throughout my life. Perhaps you're still wondering where and how I made this mask." OS crossed his arms.
"I don't have to hear any of your stories."
"Then the same thing goes around with me."
"Now hold on just a second." Ammit glared. "Who are you? And why interfere with my mission in Mistral?"
"I prefer you don't know my real name. Just call me OS. And as for me stopping by, just wanted to see how much stronger you've gotten. But appears that nothing has changed at all."
"I can still kill you in this state…" Ammit weakly swiped his arm at OS, but couldn't reach him.
"Still, your arrogance is still there." He shook his head in disappointment and began to walk away.
"Get back here!"
"By the way." OS threw Ammit's wand and barely missed him from getting stabbed in the hand. "There's your wand back." He headed off.
"Where're you going?!"
"Paying a visit to someone." Was the last thing OS said to Ammit. When lighting flashed, he was no longer standing there anymore.
