Sevasey Drabbles

Mr Potato

"Morning, love…" Kelly spoke gently as Matt's eyes flickered opened.

He let out a small groan, it felt like a thousand knives were piercing his skill. "Ow…"

"Hold out your hand," Kelly instructed, voice soft as to not cause him anymore pain.

Matt did as Kelly said even though his eyes slipped closed.

"Painkillers. Swallow them down with this," he told Matt, passing him a glass of water.

"Never again…." Matt moaned, letting Kelly take the glass back from his hand before he dropped it.

He smiled down at him, resisting the temptation to run a hand through Matt's bed hair. "Get some more sleep."

"No… there's a mouse…"

Kelly was sure he hadn't heard him right. "A mouse?"

He nodded as much as he dared. "Under the hat."

"A mouse under the hat?"

"Please… please put him outside… or in the bathtub or something… somewhere safe… I almost stood on him when I got in last night…"

"Erm, yeah, sure, Matty…"

"Promise?"

"I will go and rescue the mouse, I promise. Now, go back to sleep, love." Kelly planted a kiss on his forehead before getting up to do as Matt had asked.

When Matt woke again a few hours later he felt considerably better. He dragged himself out of bed and straight into the ensuite to shower. Kelly was sitting on the couch when he appeared from their bedroom, hair still damp, but he looked much less worse for wear than that morning.

"Hey…" Matt greeted him gruffly.

"How you feeling?"

Matt laughed. "Old."

"Do you remember rescuing a mouse last night?" Kelly asked him, getting up from the couch.

"Vaguely…"

"Come here, have a look at this," Kelly said, taking his waist and leading him over to the to the kitchen.

"What am I looking at?" he asked, wondering why one of Kelly's caps was on the floor.

Kelly smiled at him before bending down and picking up the hat.

Frowning Matt gazed down at the floor. "Why…"

"Why indeed… I can only deduce that in your drunken state, you arrived home last night and believed this potato was a mouse," he said with his best Sherlock Holmes expression, holding the small potato up for effect. "It also seems like you wanted said mouse as a pet."

Matt shrugged. "I did always want a pet when I was a kid."

"Well, now you have one, meet Mr Potato."

Matt chuckled, taking the potato from him. "You're never gonna let me forget this?"

"I'm never gonna let you go out on a CFD Truck Lieutenants shindig again."
