All three masters were impressed with our attack and Marcus was glad that he had new recruits. He and Caius were both going to the Russian castle after the ceremony to train them and leaving Duilio and me in Volterra. This was only the second time that they left Duilio in charge of Volterra since he became master. I was extremely surprised by this. I would have never thought that the brothers would trust him in this way but Caius was only going for a few weeks. I wondered why Caius offered to go to Russia to begin with but with so many newborns, it made sense for him to go. Grandpa said that Caius wanted to help with the training so that he could watch their progress and scout any potential trainees for his personal guard. He also said that he was impressed with Duilio's decision to stay in Volterra. I could tell by the way that he was interacting with Duilio. It was as if Caius had a bit more respect for him. Nevertheless, I could not trust his sudden change of heart. I suspected that he had something up his sleeve but I couldn't prove anything.

A week after the attack we had a large ceremony to officially reveal the new Volturi wolf pack. The event caused a buzz among the immortals and witnesses arrived every day to the castle. The Volturi had never needed to accommodate for so many witnesses so Heidi was kept very busy. Dad and I weren't happy about this at all. The more vampires that arrives the more humans would be slaughtered. Over the years, Duilio had made sure that the humans brought to the castle were humans that needed to die. They hardly ever took children anymore, only ones who were going to die anyway. However, this didn't exactly bring any comfort to the wolves.

After seeing our profuse displeasure with the feedings during that week, Duilio convinced Marcus to not have a human feast after the ceremony out of respect for what the pack is about. Both brothers agreed which surprised me greatly but for the days leading up to the ceremony, the Volturi were gracious hosts and fed their guests well. As much as I hated it, I had to accept that this is who they were.

Every member of the Cullen family came to the ceremony, even aunt Eve, uncle Seth and Harry. Kara stayed in LaPush with Enlei and the baby so that Harry could attend. Aunt Leah and uncle Kal also came to witness the ceremony. They all stayed with us at the summer house which officially became the wolf embassy after the ceremony.

"Are you nervous?" Aunt Leah asked us after an family dinner. We were in the living room, talking and relaxing before we had to go the castle for the unveiling at midnight.

"I'm not." Lina told her. Liam shrugged.

"Not really. I just want to get it over with. I am ready to get it done." He told her.

"Do you think anyone will attack after the ceremony?" Chris asked grandpa.

"No. I haven't read anything too concerning from any of our guests but Caius seems to be working very hard on his ancient Greek lessons for the past few days so I am not sure what's going on with him." He told Chris.

"I don't know either. He has been acting very strange." Duilio agreed. We were both sitting on the floor by the couch. I was laying my head on his chest while he played with my hair.

"What about you aunt Alice? Do you see anything?" Mom asked her.

"Nope. I can't see the ceremony but I also don't see myself or your mom writing any cryptic notes for me." She said cheerfully.

"I only write those for special occasions." She told her with a smile. She and grandpa were cuddled up on the loveseat.

"Both of our personal guards will be on high alert and with Chris staying here, I doubt anyone will slip through our ranks." Duilio told them. I tensed a little when he mentioned Chris. He looked down at me and kissed my head which caused me to relax. He knew that I was still pretty mad at Harry and Chris for not trusting me but he convinced me to let it go because they love us.

"Yeah. Don't even worry about it cause I got your backs. Besides, this could be fun!" Chris said smiling and then he winked at his dad.

"Aw man! I wanna stay too! Come on babe? Do you really want to leave our baby boy alone over here?" Uncle Emmett asked aunt Rose. He had been trying to guilt her into staying ever since they arrived.

"Our son can handle his own. We are staying for a week only and that's final!" She hissed at him and we all laughed.

We arrived at the castle at midnight. Roberta went inside to announce our guest and request their entrance. Once everyone was settled inside, I went in to announce my pack. The double doors opened and I phased into my vampire form. I walked confidently into a large crowd of red eyes. I saw a smaller crowd of yellow and brown eyes towards the thrown but it was the grey eyes that made me loose my concentration. Why were those eyes so damn sexy?

"Good evening father, master Caius, master Duilio. I request you permission to present the newest members of the Volturi." I said. Marcus stood from his throne and nodded. The double doors opened again and my pack walked in, flanked by my guard.

"May I present, my dad Jacob Black, wolf alpha, leader of the Quileute tribe, full wolf and first in command of the Volturi Pack. Lina Lahote Black, wolf, granddaughter of the current tribal chief, descendant of the three purest bloodlines, the second female wolf to our tribe and second in command. Next, I present Liam Clearwater, wolf, bird, son of the first eagle Picha K'al, direct descendant of the first wolf Taha Aki, and first command of our aerial force. Finally, I present myself, Sarah Bell Black Cullen, bird, wolf, cat, vampire, the first true shapeshifter, the true alpha to the Quileute wolves, alpha female of the Volturi pack and commander. This is the first pack of its kind and the only pack made of both wolves and bird shifters. We are here to ensure all immortals uphold the law and to ensure humans and mixed breads are treated fairly. We exist for their protection and we are here to serve." Told them. Caius and Duilio both stood and walked over to Marcus. The three mastered stood side by side watching us when Caius raised his hand. A set of doors opened and five newborns were escorted in my two of Caius personal guard.

"Normally we have you demonstrate your powers but since your gift is to destroy vampires I thought this would be more appropriate." He explained. I bowed my head politely, even though I was annoyed.

"To our guests, please allow us some room." I said, and everyone spread out leaving us a wide open space.

"Walk forward." I told the newborns. They instantly walked toward me. "As you all know, I have the gift of control which I would gladly demonstrate, but if it pleases my masters, I think I will attack these five with my pack." I told the masters.

"Go ahead my dear." Marcus said. My pack and I removed our robes ant the same time we phased to reduce exposure. We had been practicing our phasing so that we could do it instantaneously. As soon as I phased, the newborns were released from my control and some tried to scatter. It was futile, we all attacked with perfect precision almost like a dance, executing our prey flawlessly. Just to show off I threw the upper half of one of the leeches into the air for Liam. He jumped and phased into a bird mid-jump. He easily caught the vampire with his talons and crushed him. Everyone gasped at his size and strength. Once it was done, my guard placed our robes on our coats and we phased back into our human forms, using the robes to cover ourselves. The whole process took less than two minutes to complete.

"Excellent!" Duilio said. Marcus and Caius nodded once.

Marcus then spoke to the gusts and guard about the new treaty, detailing all the new laws and outlining the consequences of breaking them. The vampires looked nervous when he mentioned that I could call fort every wolf to defend the Volturi if anyone tried to attack them or us. After his announcement, I presented again my personal guard and I asked any gusts if they would like to participate. I few guests volunteered and my guard was able to demonstrate their gifts. Finally, right before we announced that the ceremony was over, Caius stepped forward.

"Thank you all for coming to this historic even. As you can see, this is more than just an allegiance between immortals, this is a merging of the Volturi and Olympic houses which was sealed with the union of my nephew Duilio Marco de Volturi and my new niece Sarah Bell Black Cullen." More gasps and whispers spread across the room as Caius said this. I instantly felt a wave of fury his me like a boulder. It was Duilio. He glared at Caius with such fierceness that Athenadory stepped closer to her mate.

"This child has imprinted on our Duilio. She is now his mate and a true mistress of this castle. Any threats to her will be considered a direct threat to the Volturi as well as to the Olympians." He continued. Marcus finally turned his head to look at him. He had his usual board expression but I could see the confusion in his eyes. Marcus was not expecting this from him and it made me wonder why Caius would make such an announcement.

"Come child." He said as he extended his hand to me. I reluctantly waled over to Caius and took his hand. Caius then walked me to Duilio and handed me to him. Both vampires exchanged a furious look that made me a little uncomfortable, then Caius turned back to our guests.

"Behold your Master and his new queen." He said. Duilio tensed even more and then he walked with me, hand in hand to the center of the room. Duilio then let me go.

"Behold our new pack." He said to everyone, signaling to me and my pack. All of the guard and some of our guests clapped and then the ceremony was finally over. I looked at Duilio's face and I knew something terrible had just happened. His eyes looked distraught.

After the ceremony we had an elegant feast which aunt Alice prepared. The wolves had plenty of food to eat and vampires who desired to celebrate had the choice to drink donated blood or to leave. It was a first time that there wasn't a feast of human bodies and not everyone was happy about it. I had no delusions that everyone would just accept the changes and live happily ever after. It was an adjustment and it would take time for the guard and the vampire community to accept us.

There was another complication which was brought about by Caius. He announced to the entire vampire world that I had imprinted on Duilio and that we were now mates. He was solidifying the union between our families to our guests. Even after my great conquest in the south, he was concerned that our guests were skeptical as to how long our allegiance would last and declaring Duilio and I as mates was the surest way of establishing the permanence of the merger. The problem was that in doing this, I was now considered a Volturi wife. I didn't really understand the repercussions of this act.

Duilio kept his cool during the dinner but he was livid and I could sense his fury which made dinner uncomfortable and awkward. The brothers locked themselves in the throne room after everything was over and they were in there over an hour. My family returned to the summer house however, my parents decided to stay behind to talk to Duilio. They were worried about what Caois's announcement meant.

I was in Duilio's wing with my grandparents, my parents, and Mac, waiting and eavesdropping on the on goings in the throne room. Grandpa Edward told us that Duilio and Caius were fighting and that Marcus was trying to keep the peace but towards the end of the fight Marcus and Duilio became angry at each other. Marcus wanted us to accept my position as a Volturi wife, and he didn't understand why Duilio was being so resistant. That's when grandpa said that he would not listen in anymore. A few moments later, Duilio came into the room looking furious.

"Its been a long day. Shouldn't you all be in bed?" He asked us. His voice was hard and controlled. Grandma looked at me sympathetically. Mac got up from the sofa.

"I think I'm gonna see what Alec is up to." She announced and then she left. Duilio threw himself back on one of the sofas. He was pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Maybe you should get some sleep." Grandma told him.

"Heck no! He needs to tell us what this means." Mom argued.

"Yeah man. Why the hell is this such a big deal?" Dad asked him.

"There will be consequences for what Caius has done. I'll talk to them again tomorrow and I'll see what I can do." He told him.

"What consequences?" Grandma asked him.

"When Sarah was considered a daughter of Volterra, she had the freedom to do whatever she wanted as long a she kept up with her Volturi duties but being a wife is completely different. They're wallflowers. Volturi wives cannot leave the castle, or fight, or do anything that can place them at risk because their lives are directly linked to their husbands. This edict was placed after Marcus went catatonic because of Dydime." I told her.

"I got one word to say to that: Ha!" I said sarcastically, cause there was no way they were keeping me prisoner in this castle. I shouldn't have worried though.

"I agree. That's not going to happen to you. For now, you can leave the castle to go to town but just don't leave Volterra unescorted or go on missions..." He stopped to think about what he had just said and he sighed, "...which is a problem because you have a pack that you need to lead. I'm gonna have to think about how I can fix this, love." He added. I smiled, glad Duilio always respected my position in the pack. As usual, Duilio was on my side when it came to me being a leader which was refreshing. Duilio wasn't like Sammy or my dad. In the past, I hid behind Sammy and my father but not anymore. From day one, Duilio didn't let me sit in the background. He made me be at the forefront with him. He was protective but he never underestimated my capabilities. It was the opposite. He believed in my ability to lead my pack and go to school. He believed in my capabilities as a leader, the only thing he didn't believe in was Marcus and that was why he was trying so hard to control our relationship since we arrived to Volterra. However, now that they were getting along, things were better in that front as well.

"I am never unescorted. I always have someone at my side and I doubt Caius and Marcus would mind me leading my pack. That's part of our agreement." I reminded him.

"When I said unescorted, I meant, without me. Wives do not leave Volterra. If they do they are always at our side. It won't be a problem for missions but I don't have the freedom to leave Volterra on a daily basis. You won't be able to go to college Sarah." He said. I laughed.

"Yeah, I'd like to see Caius try to stop me." I retorted.

"This is serious Sarah. You break the rules, it will be seen as you trying to make attempts at my life because my life is tied to yours." He told me and dad growled. He was about to say something but I put my hand up to stop him.

"Our lives were tied before I was announced as your wife and nobody cared what I did. You are my imprint. I will not let anything happen to you." I told him. He smiled at me.

"Its not me you need to convince, my love. I told you… I'll talk to them tomorrow. These rules are archaic anyways and they were made before my time. I'm not going to let them impose rules on us that I didn't agree upon and I'm certainly not going to allow Caius to tell my wife what she can and cannot do." He said that last part more to himself. He must have thought something funny because grandpa smiled.

"Especially when you can't do that either." Mom said cheerfully. He glared at her for a moment but then he smirked.

"True. Your daughter inherited that famous Swan stubbornness." He said.

"You got that right!" Dad agreed and mom smacked him.

"Lay off the Swan women or you will all be sleeping in the doghouse tonight." Grandma said and crossed her arms looking cute but annoyed. Grandpa wrapped his arms around her and kissed her head which made her smile again.

"Ok. So its settled. You and I decide how our marriage is going to run. Not them." I told Duilio.

"I think we have overlooked something very important." Grandpa said before Duilio could answer me. "He hasn't actually asked you to marry him yet." He told me, taunting me.

"I guess now he won't have to." I taunted. Duilio got mad at that idea. I could sense that he felt a little hurt by what I said, as if he wanted to ask me himself.

"Yes he does." Dad said quickly and then mom added, "I don't care if you are a Volturi wife or not. You two are going to get married before our family calls you husband and wife. And I'm pretty sure Alice is going to want a big wedding too." She said excited.

"So ask me already!" I said to Duilio exasperated.

"Thanks honey, that was very romantic." He said sarcastically. "I said I will ask you after you graduate and I'm sticking to it." He told me. Mom's brows furrowed in confusion but dad smiled happily.

"What? Why?" I asked confused.

"Because I want you to go to college and live as normal a life as possible. You're not even 20 years old and there are too many things that you haven't experienced yet. I will talk to them tomorrow to get things sorted." He explained. I heard this little speech before. I took a deep breath trying hard not to get angry, when I felt a warm hand on my leg. It was mom, and she winked at me. I smiled back at her and looked at my imprint who was sitting across from us, looking confused by are interaction.

"If you want to wait four years to marry your wife, that's your choice." I told him, giving him my best attempt at a sarcastic voice because I didn't want to get into a fight.

"Sarah, I would marry you tonight but I want you to have a normal life. Our life won't be like the Cullens. We won't get to go to start over in high school and then in college over and over again. This was going to be your one opportunity for a long time. I want you to have those experiences." He told me.

"And I will have them. But being your wife is the one experience I want above all others." I said before I got up and walked over to him. Even though he was sitting right next to my grandmother, I leaned into him, placed one hand gently on one cheek and kissing the other cheek.

"I love you." I whispered into his ear and then I walked away into his room, our room.

Duilio

I felt her gentile kiss in every inch of my body. That was exactly the reason why I hated being alone with her. She was irresistible. How the hell was I supposed to keep my hands off her for four years? I dropped my head into my hands and pulled my hair. I was going to cave. I could feel it. Dad laughed.

"I don't find this remotely funny." I told him.

"I think you have run out of excuses not to be with her son. I think you are going to have to accept that you can be happy here in Volterra. I think its time for you to ask her, especially since she's already considered your wife." He told me. Jacob grunted.

"I think he's on the right track with waiting. Just because you got married right after high school, doesn't mean that everyone else has to too." He told dad.

"I want her to go to school." I added.

"She will. Sarah knows what she's doing. I really don't think there is anything we can do to stop her once her mind is set." Mom said.

"Frankly, I think you just need to get over your fears and marry my daughter because the more you make her wait the more it will hurt her." Nessie told me. I sighed again and leaned back further into the couch. That part was true. She wanted this so badly and making her wait would hurt her. I was so sick of hurting my girl.

"Then don't." Dad told me.

"Technically the decision is up to Marcus and me since she is our mutual claim." I said to myself. I was thinking that perhaps if I included Marcus in the decision he would give Sarah whatever freedoms she wanted.

"I hate it when you talk about her like that. It makes her sound like property." Nessie commented.

"She's right." Jake told me. I could tell how much they hated it every time I opened my mouth. The problem was that she was our property, just as I was before I became a Master.

"I hated it too when it was me but that's just the way it is here. Sarah is a smart girl. She knows how to do this as well as I do now. She'll have an easier time earning her rank than I did." I told them.

"I thought the wives were wallflowers? You think the Volturi will give her a rank?" Mom asked me.

"Well, she's not just my wife is she? She's Marcus's daughter and an alpha. That's why I wanted to wait to make her officially my wife. I needed some time to find her a rank that would overrule the wife rank. Caius knew this. That's why he's been acting strange all week. He's used to having the wives sit in the background unnoticed and he doesn't want Sarah to have any power in his house." I explained.

"I feel like I'm in Victorian times or something." Mom complained.

"Trust me, I know how you feel. Volterra is full of rules and protocols but that's what makes us efficient. Everyone knows their place and everyone knows the consequences of their actions when they step out of place. That's why he kept his plan a secret. Caius was never good about keeping secrets which is why he was acting so strange but never would have expected this. Even Marcus was surprised by his announcement. I should have ripped his damn head off when I had the chance." I told her. There was a short silence and I thought about the huge fight I just had with the brothers. I attacked Caius several times but Marcus intervened every time I actually tried to kill him. Caius just laughed and taunted me as he usually did. I should have known that his nice act was just that. An act.

"So what does that mean for my granddaughter?" Dad asked me. I shrugged because I really didn't know.

"Sarah is a grey area but my father and I can work together to find a place for her. She the commander of the Volturi wolf pack and a true alpha to her people. This isn't something the Volturi can just ignore especially since its written into our treaty with all of you." I told them. They looked more appeased by this. Sarah's status as leader, commander and representative of the tribe was agreed upon as part of the allegiance. This treaty between the Olympians and the wolves had just begun so I doubted that the brothers would do anything to risk it after they made such a big scene at the ceremony. Marcus certainly would not put it at risk. I was sure of it.

"You trust him now?" Dad asked me. We both looked at each other for a moment as he tried to read my thoughts and I his emotions. Then I nodded.

"I think that I finally trust that he loves me and that he's trying to change for me." I told him.

"I'm glad things are better between you two." Mom said. I could see the sincerity of her statement. Nessie and Jake were also happy for me.

"Thanks. I'm glad too. I love you guys, you are my real family but having Marcus at my side. I don't know… I guess my family feels complete now or maybe that's just cause you guys are here and I don't have to choose anymore." I told them. Mom came to me and took my hand.

"And you won't ever have to baby. We'll never leave you again." She said before she kissed my head. I smiled at her, grateful that after decades of solitude, I would never be alone again and that was fine by me.
