Jamie led us all in our costumes, to the top of the main building. I shivered as a blast of cold air ricocheted across the roof. If I was cold, Maddy was worse. Her teeth started chattering and she was vigorously rubbing her arms. Piotr wrapped his arms around her. "Thanks!" She stuttered. Jamie didn't seem to be affected by the cold despite the front of her jumpsuit and no sleeves. She turned to us and smiled. One the roof behind was a target.
"Alright, Alex. You wanted to know what that disk is in the middle?" He nodded, face unreadable. She walked over and stood behind him. "Aim at that target and power up." She clapped his shoulder. "Then just shoot it." I saw his frame tense.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Jamie frowned.
"Why not?" I put my hand on Alex's shoulder.
"I'll stand behind the target." He shot me a look but I was already moving toward the circle. Alex took a deep breath and shifted his footing. "Alright, Alex. Try not to hit me, that's a good guy." He scowled.
"You're serous, Jamie?"
"I'm very serious." I nodded at him.
"I have complete and utter faith in you." He shook out his arms then fired. His ruby beam was more concentrated and in a straighter line. He shut it off and we laughed.
"This is amazing!" Alex said turning to Jamie. She shrugged.
"Its nothing. I try." Sean jumped on Alex and put him in a headlock.
"Whoo! I'm Alex and I have cool powers!" Alex twisted around and they stumbled toward the edge of the roof. I moved toward them.
"Sean, knock it off!" Claire and I moved closer as they hit the edge of the roof. Maddy screamed as they toppled off.
"No!" Claire and I slammed into the railing and watched helplessly as Alex and Sean fell. Then Claire shot into the air and flew up to gain momentum for a dive. Then something happened. The cape like thing on the back of Sean costume that connected to his back, elbows and wrist spread as he screamed. We watched as he soared up into the air.
"Oh shit!" Jamie yelled. "He can fly! He's using his voice to fly!" Claire looked startled then spiraled into a dive and grabbed Alex's arm before he hit the ground. Then they got back to the roof, I hugged him.
"Don't do that!" Sean laughed and shot past the roof.
"Whoooo!" When he screamed there was a shrill screeching sound. Jamie's face is priceless.
"He can fly!" Alex looked shaken and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"You ok?" He shook his head.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Or I'll be fine." I smirked and pulled him into a kiss.
"That's my Alex." Claire launched into the air again and caught up with Sean who was still flying around. After a few minutes they landed on the roof. Well, more like Claire landed and Sean crashed. But he lept to his feet, his face flushed and smiling.
"That was awesome!" Then he turned to Alex. "Hey, no hard feelings right? I mean, I did almost kill you." Alex waved away the question.
"I'm sure I'll return the favor eventually." Sean's face paled but then Claire tackle hugged him. Then she pulled away and full on slapped him in the face.
"Don't you ever do that again!" She yelled then hugged him again. Sean laughed awkwardly.
"What? Fall off a building unplanned? Got it!" We laughed and joked around. Suddenly Piotr stopped laughing and stared at the roof entrance. Maddy looked in that direction and crossed her arms over her chest as her face turned red. Alex and the rest of us wheeled around. Jean was standing on the roof with her arms crossed and stern look on her face. Her red hair swirled into her face and she brushed it aside.
"The professor wants to see you."
