A/N: So my brother randomly looks at the reviews, finds out I killed Jace's mango in chapter 28 and then went crazy saying "Rest in Peace Mango; 2014 to 2014. He was a good mango." And he randomly named the mango "Bill". And finally he told me "The pain is real! The pain is real!" Random, but I had to say it. Hope it made you laugh.
Chapter 37
Clary's POV
I could feel tears forming in my eyes as I glanced between Jace and the painting.
A series of emotions seemed to be playing across Jace's face and he seemed to be trying hard to conceal them – I was certain I had seen panic briefly cross his features though.
I slowly took a step forward and peered down at the plaque that hung under my painting.
Artist: Clary Fray
Artwork Name: The Glass City
The Glass City is a place the artist dreamed of once and wishes to live in, if the place were real. It is named The Glass City because of the spires that surround the city; they are made from a glass-like material. There are other pieces of artwork similar to this one – other pieces of art showing more of The Glass City and its surroundings.
Jace had truly somehow gotten my artwork displayed in a museum. In that moment, I realized why he had been sneaking around and asking so many questions – he was planning this.
I turned to face him and quickly wiped at the tears that had spilled down my cheeks.
I saw that brief, panicked look cross Jace's features again and I flung myself towards him, wrapping my arms around him.
"I can't believe you did this," I muttered into his shirt, feeling his arms wind around my waist.
"Are you unhappy?" he asked and I heard the slight shake to his voice – he was nervous.
I laughed slightly and pulled back. "No. Of course not... How long have you been planning to do this?" I asked.
"Ever since you told me about your biggest dreams," Jace replied, a smile gracing his lips.
"You are truly too perfect to be real," I said in a whisper. "I feel like I'm dreaming right now and I'll wake up and find that this isn't real... that you're just going to be a figure of my imagination. I'll be in my room... probably with my sketchbook and pencils across the bed," I continued.
Jace was shaking his head, the smile still on his face. "Believe me Clary, I'm real... because if I wasn't... well... I'd be quite upset... and the world would be deprived of my awesomeness."
I laughed again and glanced at my painting before I stared back up at Jace.
"And... if I wasn't real, this wouldn't feel as amazing as it does," he continued before leaning down to press his lips to mine.
His hands gripped my hips and he pulled my closer before deepening the kiss.
As much as I hated to, I pulled back, pressing my hands against Jace's chest. "We're in public," I said, staring straight at Jace and trying to avoid letting my eyes wander, afraid to meet the stare of someone that had witnessed my kiss with Jace.
"So?" Jace said, smiling down at me.
"So... I don't want to make-out in public," I said.
Jace just continued to smile at me for a moment before he placed a kiss on my cheek.
"So did Maia know about this?" I asked after a moment.
"Yes," Jace replied.
I nodded once. "And did you really go to see Mr Wayland during lunch that time?"
Jace shook his head. "No."
"Where were you then?"
"In your room... in your wardrobe... I thought I was busted when you opened the door. Maia distracted you though so... I wasn't busted," Jace said.
"You were in the... wardrobe?" I said.
Jace nodded. "Yep... and I completely freaked out when Maia said I was back in the cafeteria. I nearly tripped down the stairs on multiple occasions as I tried to beat the elevator."
I let out a breath and glanced back at my painting.
"I never would've thought you and Maia would be partners in crime," I said.
"We weren't partners in crime," Jace said. "We were partners in... helping your dream come true," he continued, smiling.
"Did anyone else know you were doing this? Aside from Maia and, of course, the museum staff," I asked.
"No... I didn't want to risk letting the secret slip out so I told as few people as possible. The look of surprise on you face though... it was priceless... you really weren't expecting this, were you?"
"No, I wasn't," I said. "I couldn't ask for better boyfriend than you Jace," I continued, resting my head against his chest.
"I couldn't ask for a more amazing girlfriend than you," he replied, resting his chin on top of my head.
"Well... someone needs to make the announcement," I said, pulling back and staring up at Jace.
"I'm guessing you want to?" Jace said.
I nodded. "Come on!" I smiled, grabbing his hand.
Jace's POV
At first, I was nervous about Clary's reaction and when I saw tears in her eyes, I had immediately thought she was upset or angry at me but her later actions told me otherwise.
I couldn't keep the smile off my face as we headed back to the school in the cab. It seemed as if Clary couldn't stop smiling either.
"You know," I said after we'd been sitting in silence for a while. "You're going to gain a whole new level of popularity within the school and community... and then when tourists visit the museum, they'll see your art and you'll become popular all around the world. You're going to become famous now."
"And it's all thanks to you and your sneaking around," Clary replied, smiling at me.
The school came into view and the taxi driver pulled up at the curb. I paid him and then climbed out with Clary before taking her hand and walking back up to the school.
Clary had been more than excited to tell everyone about her art that was now hanging in the museum and everyone truly seemed happy for her.
Maia wasn't surprised but she was happy, Isabelle started squealing and talking about trips around the world for tours – since Clary was going to become a 'mega-artist-superstar', Isabelle wanted her to travel and meet her fans. It had only been a day but Isabelle was already planning things apparently. Trust her to go crazy over something like this.
"Calm down Isabelle," Clary said, reaching up to put her hands on Isabelle's shoulders so she would stop bouncing. "Maybe one day we can do all that but my art was literally only put on display today and hardly anyone would have seen it yet..."
Isabelle looked slightly disappointed but she was still overly excited for Clary.
"You've done some crazy things before Jace... such as jumping off the roof of my house, onto the trampoline and into the pool... but out of everything you've done, this has been the most successful," Alec said, coming to stand beside me after he spoke to Clary.
"I did that when I was ten. We all do crazy things when we're ten... and I think that jump was quite successful," I said.
"The first time... the second time you slipped on the roof because you were wet, landed on the trampoline and then fell into the pool but seriously grazed your back on the edge," Alec said.
"Your mom... and my mom... were pretty pissed at that hey," I said, laughing slightly.
"Who wouldn't be... you scared the crap out of Isabelle... she thought you might've killed yourself."
"I know," I said, smiling at Clary as she interacted with out classmates.
I had truly made her day, I could see as much on her face.
I just hope I can make her smile like that forever.
A/N: The end of chapter 37! Oh, I literally thought of that incident with Jace and the trampoline and the pool as I was writing and I've decided to turn it into a one-shot, so be on the lookout for that... it will be called "Jace, Trampolines and Pools"... it should be up sometime within the next few days.
