Chapter 38
The Future is just Beginning
It seemed just like any other ordinary day for Julie and others as the sun rose that morning. The birds were chirping and the sky was as clear as ever as they rays shined through her window. It had been two weeks since the devastation that was Nightmare and in that time both humans and monsters began taking time out of their day to help rebuild the city to its former glory. The shops, museum, houses, they all had be rebuilt, or at least repaired in some cases. Though that was easy losing a loved one never was and so to those who died in the attack a memorial was erected that listed off the names of those who died a tragic death among the rubble. It was sad indeed but there was a bright side to it all, some citizens didn't really know what to think of monsters actually existing in their world others felt great relief in knowing they were being watched over by beings who could protect them. It was only the beginning though.
As the suns rays shined through her window her eyes began to open as the birds outside her window continued to chirp on and on. As she looked around the time on her bedside clock read seven fifty-six A.M, which was pretty late for her to be sleeping so once out of bed she stripped clean and threw on just a normal blue shirt with some shorts before she slipped into her shoes.
Once dressed though she was ready to start the day as she walked out and towards the front door, though as usual her father stopped her before she could even touch the door handle.
"Julie now you know you need to eat your breakfast. So come and sit." he said as he placed their plates on the table.
"Sorry dad, I'll pick something up though. I'll be back later!" she shouted as she left the house.
He had no words for it, she had done it so many times that he just decided to roll with it. All he could do was just shake his head as he settled down to eat. Still it was a very nice day to be out and even with both humans and monsters working together it all felt pretty normal for the most part. Those who she had seen at the club were now working to help repair the many buildings damaged while Frank lead the whole construction with his new cop friends having his back. Piece by piece the city began to resemble its former self, but they still had quite a ways to go before everything was right again.
As she walked down the street she saw some children from both humans and monsters playing together like they weren't any different from each other. Was that what Alucard and the others wanted? If so she could see why, they were no longer bound to the Underground any longer. Still she was looking for one person in particular as her eyes scanned the sidewalk.
"We'll need more support beams over here asap and let's get the roof replaced today alright? Come on guys hustle, hustle, there's no reason to stop now." she heard as she neared one of the many construction sites.
"Hey Frank." she greeted.
"Oh hey, did you come to help out today? We could sure use another hand out here, it's not like my own son could help or something."
"Relax boss man he's still just a kid, let him have his fun. We can always trap him later." said Fletcher.
"Oh not a bad idea." he replied as he pondered the suggestion.
Though his thoughts were interrupted by her once she began talking again.
"Hey Frank have you seen Al anywhere? He said he wanted to hang out today but he didn't leave his location in the text."
"Yeah I believe I saw him standing on the bridge down the street."
"The one that connects to the beach?"
"The very same."
"Oh OK thanks." she said as she excitedly began running down the sidewalk, dodging anyone in her way.
What were they going to do? Perhaps the arcade since it was one of the first buildings to get repaired or maybe the beach, she had a new bikini she just wanted to tease him with. Whatever he had planned there was no doubt that it would be quite interesting, nothing was ever dull when he was around. The closer she got to the end of the street though the closer the bridge came into view. As soon as she looked up at the bridge that connected the sidewalk to the beach on the other side of the street she could see him slouching over the railing as he watched his friends fish at the beach.
"Ugh god that water is really salty. What's up with that?" asked Locke as he fell into the water.
"It's called salt water you ding dong. Come on you can do it just cast it out again and focus on the floater." said Salena as she pushed him back out into the water.
They all just kind of laughed though as he fell face first into the water again.
"Come on Locke women love a good fishermen." teased Ela as she held her boyfriend close to her.
"Yeah right how about you try?" he said as he handed her the pole.
"Yeah right I'll show you how it's done." Jerel replied as he took the pole and cast it out.
Just watching them made him shake his head as he chuckled to the sight. They were so silly sometimes, but then again the world had just gotten a whole lot bigger for them so what could he expect? Just looking out over the city did his heart good and to think he and his friends would have an eternity to enjoy it.
"There you are." he heard as he looked to his left.
"Oh hey there sleepyhead. Didn't you get my message?"
"Yeah, but you tell me where you were. I had to ask Frank where I could find you." she said with a smile as she stood before him.
"Oh yeah, I guess I should have told you that huh?"
"It would had helped."
His eyes couldn't help but run over her body as she stood there beside him, it almost made him feel even more like a pervert.
"Hm? Is something wrong?"
"Uh oh no it's just, that outfit really suits you. You look...pretty in it."
"Heh it's just a t-shirt and shorts. Does it really look that good?"
"Yeah..." he sighed as he just wanted to smash his head against the guard rail.
She knew though, he may act tough but on the inside he was still a boy and boys liked what boys liked. It almost made her blush though when he told her she looked pretty and she didn't know why. Who knew?
"So what are you doing up here? Don't you want to go down and have fun with the others?"
"I am but..."
"But what?"
"I just wanted to see how things were going. It finally happened Julie, we are finally free from the burden our kind bared for so long. We don't have to hide who we are anymore, but still we aren't done yet."
"Hm, but isn't this what you wanted?"
"Yeah it's a great start, but there's still a ways to go. This is only one city in a world with thousands and we aren't the only ones out there. You, me, Ela, Jerel, we are only a fraction of those who are in this world." he said as he stood straight up.
"Yeah I guess you're right, but this is a nice start right?"
"Oh yeah, it went a lot better than I expected and just imagine what this world will be like once the world knows. It will be boundless, not only a home to humans but to us as well. We could create a new world as long as no one comes around to screw it up. I don't know what the future holds for us but we can still imagine the possibilities."
"Yeah and if someone does show up we'll be there to protect the people of the world."
"Damn straight, we'll kick their asses all the way back to Hell."
"Yeah, that sounds good." she said with a little giggle.
As they stood on the bridge though a thought occured to him that never came to him before.
"I hope one day I can meet them all, the people of this world. I want to show them the truth just as these people do."
"We will, I'm sure of it."
"Heh yeah we will and no matter what happens. No matter who comes next we'll face our future together."
And as they watched from above a new chapter of the world was about to unfold. One where humans and monsters could hopefully co-exist in peace. A new world has begun.
The End
