Attention! Attention All Hosts!
Chapter 37: Helpers Games Begin! Helpers Games End! Who Stays?
"Tamaki-sempai? Do you need help?" Tamaki looked up from his task at hand.
"Of course not!" I sighed and picked up the screwdriver.
"Are you sure? You're trying to tighten a screw with a hammer. I have a screwdriver right here." At his look of horror, I smiled and handed over the screwdriver. "I assume you are not familiar with tools. Turn the screwdriver right to tighten the screw and left to loosen it." Tamaki nodded and tried to fit the screwdriver to the screw. I grabbed his arm and moved it to its proper place. At his smile, I left to find any more problems with my friends. I smiled at Takashi and Mitskuni outside with firewood. I ran out to tell them the bad news.
"Hi Yon-chan," Mitskuni yelled from nearby Takashi's workplace. I ran forward and lifted Mitskuni up on my shoulders.
"Hey guys. I have some bad news." That is when I first registered that Takashi wasn't wearing a shirt. Girls inside were practically drooling by the windows.
"What is it?" Mitskuni asked sadly.
"The inn doesn't have a fireplace. If it did, it's the middle of summer so we wouldn't need firewood." Takashi had a loose grip on the axe by now. "Don't drop the axe!" He immediately tightened his grip. "I can help you guys out. First, you need to put the axe down." Takashi did as I told him and leaned the axe against his chopping block.
"What now Yon-chan?" Mitskuni asked from my shoulders.
"Now we need Takashi to wait here for a moment. Leave your shirt off. I'll be back. Let's go inside Mitskuni!" I ran inside with the older and smaller teen on my shoulders.
"Where are we going?" he asked.
"We need to get Takashi water! He really needs water!"
"I hope Takashi will be ok while we get the water." I heard a few girls "aw" towards Mitskuni's worry for his cousin. That made me smile in reply.
"We just need to hurry." I ran in the kitchen with him, got a washcloth and bottle of water, and ran straight out to Takashi again. I handed over the water bottle with a smile. "Drink half and pour the rest over your face and chest. It will make the girls inside go crazy." He nodded and did as I said. I gave him the washcloth. "You can use it to move the water to your neck." He did and then took Mitskuni from my shoulders and set him on the ground.
"Thanks," rumbled his deep voice. I smiled in reply.
"If you guys would be really kind, could you stack the firewood over there while I get you some lemonade and more water to cool off?"
"Of course Yon-chan!" I ran inside and set to work on keeping them hydrated in the warm weather of summer. By the time I came out, 5 minutes later, it was all stacked against the wall. I set down my tray and looked at them.
"You guys work fast." Mitskuni bounced over and took the glass of lemonade I offered happily. Takashi was much more calm about it, but still happy and grateful. "Now, you need a break." I put one bottle against each boy's neck. "Keep them there and relax while I go check on everyone else." I ran off and found the twins doing fine. Kyoya was nowhere I had looked so I went to the dining area to check on the guests. I saw Kyoya relaxing with a cup of tea so I made my way over to him. "What are you doing?"
"I'm drinking tea." I sighed and shook my head.
"That's not what I meant. Aren't you going to try to stay here?"
"I can just go up to my family's villa instead. We all have one here."
"Please join and be the backup. Tamaki is great but it's too long together. The twins are a horror if they win. I won't mind Takashi and Mitskuni. I'd actually enjoy them."
"How about we make a bet on who wins instead?"
"I don't want to. You'll probably win. Who do you think will win here though?"
"Well Honey-sempai isn't really an appeal magnet and he stays with Mori-sempai all the time so he's out. Mori-sempai won't continue without Honey-sempai so he's out. Tamaki is much closer to getting it if he can keep his mouth shut. We both know the chances of that happening."
"You think it's the twins. Help me?"
"I have nothing to gain. Besides, Tamaki can win if he has the right tools." I followed his gaze to the piano covered in the corner near Tamaki trying to fix a light socket that had come loose.
"I'll owe you a second favor if you win." He thought it over for a moment. "It can be anything reasonable."
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt. This is a vacation after all."
"That's right! Take risks Kyoya."
"How about you owe me two more favors?"
"Fine. Just please help me?"
"Very well."
"Thank you!" I hugged him tightly due to how grateful I was. "You have quite a bit of catching up to do." I let go and patted his shoulder with a grin. "I have to go." I ran off to find the person that would help me with my next task.
"I can't believe how many people have entered our world." I looked up at Kaoru during our task of sweeping the porch.
"What do you mean?" I asked over Tamaki playing piano and Kyo harmonizing with our violin.
"Well for the longest time, it's been just me and Hikaru. We were in our own world."
"I know what that's like. What changed?"
"It started with Haruhi being able to tell us apart with ease. We opened up without realizing the change until we had our world starting to combine with the regular world. Hikaru doesn't realize it and he doesn't want it to change."
"I see. There's no way to stop it though."
"I know that. He doesn't though. Can you do something for me?"
"I can try."
"Take care of Hikaru. Force him to realize that our world is changing. Make him accept it without him being upset."
"I'll do it the best I can. Take care of Kyo for me. It's odd that us younger twins worry about our older twins more than they know we do. I think that we are more responsible than them at times."
"That's a definite possibility. Look out!" I moved to jump back. Kaoru had tackled me instead. A flower pot shattered and glass landed beside us and behind us. "Be careful Kyon."
"Are you ok Kaoru?" I saw the cut on his cheek. "You got hurt. Be careful when you get up. There's a lot of glass."
"Kaoru! Are you alright? Are you hurt?" I was shocked at the sudden disappearance of Kaoru and appearance of Hikaru's voice.
"Kyon!" I moved to stand at Kyo's voice while watching Hikaru worry about Kaoru.
"Ouch!" I stood and moved my hand away from where it had touched glass.
"Kyon! What happened? Why are you holding your hand?"
"It's nothing Kyo. I cut my hand on some glass. I'm fine. I promise."
"But you're hurt." Tears filled his eyes.
"No! Don't do that!"
"You started it!"
"But when you cry, I cry!" My tears spilled over before I realized they were there.
"You started crying first!" His tears spilled over as well. We latched ourselves onto each other and started crying.
"Are you 2 alright?" Kyoya asked awkwardly. We let go of each other and latched ourselves onto Kyoya instead. He patted our backs awkwardly.
"Is everyone alright out here?" Rumi shouted when she came out. I looked up with tears in my eyes.
"Kaoru and I have cuts. We're fine. Kyo and I are crying for some unknown reason! I don't know why!" I buried my face in Kyoya's chest again.
"Kaoru. Let me see your cut," Kyoya ordered. I heard Hikaru approach with Kaoru. Kyoya's arm left me. "It just needs to be cleaned and covered with a band aid."
"He needs serious medical attention! He was hurt!"
"He's fine. It's just a small cut. Kyon. Let me see yours." I put my injured hand up and held on to Kyoya with my other arm tighter. "It's bleeding badly and the glass is still in there. The first thing we need to do is take it out." I let go and stepped back.
"No! It hurts to do that!"
"It has to be done." Kyo let go and grabbed my shoulders.
"Kyon. He's right. Let him take it out. You know you can trust him." I hesitated for a long while.
"Alright." Kyo let go and I offered my hand to Kyoya when he made his way over to me. He gently took my hand in his larger and warmer one. He harshly pulled the glass out. "Ow! That hurt!" I moved to kneel and nurse my hurting hand. My knee landed on some glass. "Ow! How does that happen?"
"I can get the glass out of there too."
"No! You hurt me when you took it out of my hand!"
"It has to be done. Sit in that chair over there." I frowned and stood my ground. "I will carry you over there"
"You wouldn't." He proved me wrong by lifting me up and carrying me to the chair he wanted me to sit in. For how angry he was at me not listening, he put me down extremely gently.
"Hold your breath." I did as I was ordered and found that the sharp pain wasn't as bad for some reason.
"It wasn't that bad."
"We just need to clean your cuts and cover them now."
"Thank you," I said softly.
"You are a handful when you need first aid."
"I'm sure right now isn't the perfect time to announce this." We all looked at Rumi. "I have my winner of the helper games."
"You do?" Kyo asked.
"Who?" I asked.
"Your raven haired friend with the glasses wins! It is due to his obvious care for you and his helpful nature with the small injuries of you and your other friend. Congratulations!"
"You won. Kyoya- sempai! You won!" I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around him. (A row of 9 light bulbs appears with one already lit. After a bit of flashing, 4 more lit up.)
"You seem pretty happy that he won," I heard 2 familiar voices say in unison. I frowned and released my grip on Kyoya.
"Don't bug me about it. I asked him to win since he distances himself from the club with his emotions."
"How'd you get him to do that?"
"I owe him 2 extra favors."
"That desperate to help him stay connected?" Hikaru asked.
"Are you sure it wasn't something else?" Kaoru asked me.
"Of course not! What else could it be?"
"Maybe you like him Yon-chan!"
"Yeah." I looked at Takashi and Mitskuni.
"Are you guys serious?" They didn't answer. "Thank you for your help." I nodded to Kyoya with a smile and stood up. "I need to go cover my little cuts." I left to get band aids.
"Don't forget to clean them." I turned around and smiled at Kyoya.
"Don't worry. I won't." I turned and left.
"Why did you agree to this Kyoya-sempai?"
"I get something out of it."
"Do you like Yon-chan?" I snickered and made my way up to my room without waiting for his answer. There was no way he liked me. There was just no way.
