Chapter 38
Summer Vacation has just started, or rather will start officially tomorrow. The class all made their way out of the classroom, however Nagataka remained behind.
That yellow octopus said that Karasuma wanted to talk to him about something.
Nagataka patiently wanted in the classroom waiting for the ministry of defence's agent to show up. "I wonder what he wants to talk about?" Nagataka wondered to himself. "Is it about the assassination? My intelligence and combat skill? A continuation of our talk in Kyoto?"
He looked up as Karasuma entered the classroom. It was a good thing to seeing as his train of thought was going off course quickly.
"Nagataka, you're here" The agent noted. "Good"
"What do you want to talk about Karasuma-sensei?"
"..." Karasuma grabbed a chair from a nearby desk and sat opposite of Nagataka. "Where should I begin?" He thought to himself.
"Guess I should start from the beginning and work my way there" Karasuma coughed into his hand. "Do you remember how I asked you to provide a blood sample for me?"
Nagataka nodded. "I do" The teen nodded. "What was that even for?"
Karasuma inhaled before he spoke. "I took your blood sample to a hospital"
Nagataka didn't blink as his eyes widened. "...What?"
"Let me elaborate" Karasuma said. "I brought your blood sample to your doctor and also my own blood. I wanted to test if we are related"
"What brought this thought on?" Nagataka asked narrowing his eyes.
"...Some people think we look and act similar"
"Really?" He asked. "You went so far to do a blood test just for that?"
"There's no way we are related" He continued. "It's like saying Ryoma is related to Takaoka just by the similarities in their build and appearance"
Karasuma was about to say something but Nagataka beat him to it. "Let me guess, you were about to say that a person like me would be feeling hopeful that I do have relatives, right?"
Karasuma nodded. "Yes, if I was in your position I would hope that I would have family"
"You do realize it is a waste of time right?"
Karasuma raised an eyebrow. "Don't you want to know if you have any family?"
Nagataka only shrugged.
"Anyways...what are the results?"
"...That's the thing" Karasuma sighed. "The test was pretty hard for the doctor. Your blood was apparently very difficult for the doctor to even try and find a close relation between us"
"Hmm" Nagataka hummed.
Karasuma was the next to narrow his eyes. "The doctor seemed pretty hush-hush about the whole thing too" He said.
"What do you mean?"
"Your blood is different" Karasuma simply said. "It was harder for him to look through your blood than mine, you know something about this"
"I do? What did the doctor say?"
"He said that he would tell me about why it's hard to compare your blood with mine only through your consent" The agent said with a sigh. "Apparently he said that it is something-"
"That I don't want to talk about" The student finished for the PE teacher.
He nodded. "...Will you tell me?"
"...No..."
"I see..."
"...I don't want to tell you...but...I think it's more that I'm not ready too..."
"That may be it" The older male said. "He did say he was raised in a different environment causing him to act differently, kind of like Irina in a way..."
"Remembering our Kyoto conversation?" The black haired teen asked as the teacher nodded after a brief moment of surprise. "I was originally thinking we were going to continue that"
"I assume it's going to be the same answer as the blood?" He asked his student who nodded. "It's fine. It's fine to act like this"
"Everyone has been in this situation before, including that thing" Karasuma said as even mentioning or even thinking about that yellow menace caused a vein to pop. "Some people don't want to tell even those close to them about certain problems or secrets, sometimes they are not ready or feel comfortable to tell them. It's fine and its natural. Everyone does this no matter what age"
"Is that an attempt to cheer me up?" Nagataka asked with a small smile. "If so, then...thanks"
Karasuma stood up and placed the chair back. "I shouldn't keep you too long, you ARE a teenager and it IS officially summer break" He said as he and Nagataka left the building. "The doctor managed to find out though that we are not closely related or immediate family the possibility of distant family is still there"
"...But?"
"There is also the possibility of us not being related as well, and also the need for your doctor to figure out the problem...but then it could simply be too far" Karasuma then took a deep breath. "Even if we are related or not, if you want I can become your family if you want"
Nagataka shook his head. "Nah" He replied. "I'm good...for now at least..."
Karasuma sighed and shook his head. "Alright, alright" He waved his hand. "Go home and enjoy summer break and don't forget about those summer break lessons"
"Yeah, yeah" He said in a similar tone to Karasuma. "See ya, Karasuma-sensei"
"...Bye..."
Afer a while Karasuma walked back into the teacher's office of the building. Korosensei and Irina were in the room as Korosensei easily dodged Irina's stabs as he read a magazine.
"Oh Karasuma-sensei!" Korosensei then appeared behind the agent. "How did it go?"
Karasuma sighed as he quickly turned around and tried to slash at the beast who dodged the attacks. "It guess it went fine" He said as both him and Irina were trying to kill the yellow squid but he kept dodging with ease.
"What do you mean?" Irina asked as she was mainly concentrating on killing the target.
"The test results were...not what I was expecting"
"How so?" The teacher asked as he did a few poses in between the dodges.
"Me and Nagataka aren't closely related to sum it up" Karasuma said. "The rest is mainly confidential"
"Aw, that's too bad" Korosensei sadly said.
"Wait you only said closely related...do you mean?" Irina asked.
"That the possibility of being a distant, maybe VERY distant relative a possibility?" Korosensei asked as Karasuma sighed. "I know, why do you still be family even if your not related"
"I offered but he turned me down, it was rather sudden too so I'm sure he needs time to think about it too"
"That's a shame" Korosensei said. "But hey! We get to go to a island resort!"
"You can just go there anytime you want!" Irina shouted at him.
"Yes but this is with my students! Surely a time to remember as a teacher!"
Karasuma ignored the two banter as he sat down and worked on the laptop. A very interesting day...and he felt that something was somewhat...unusual...
Nagataka went home and placed the long guidebook that Korosensei made next to the Kyoto guidebook that the octopus made. He still had the assembled papercraft model of Kinkaku-ji, which rested on top of the Kyoto guidebook.
He had kept these as souvenirs...then again he had some weird stuff...like those shirts...
He even had those anti-sensei weapons...who knows what would happen if Korosensei showed up in his house again. He had the same weapons used in the classroom right here, he also had those two remote controlled sniper rifles since there was no real point of keeping them in the classroom now that Korosensei knew about them.
Anti-sensei BBs, anti-sensei knives, cut pieces of anti-sensei knives, a baseball covered in anti-sensei BBs, M1911 Handguns, M4 Assault Rifles, R93 Sniper Rifles, G36 without stock, grenade filled with anti-sensei BBs, C79 Scope. 2x Red Dot Sight, rocket launcher all with S.A.A.U.S.O on them...wait, this seems like Deja vu...
He had experimented with the weapons or rather anti-sensei material as he made the anti-sensei whip. There was cut pieces on the palm side of a glove, a anti-sensei katana, some remote control devices used similarly to the remote controlled sniper rifles, even the same concoction used to destroy the convenince store's bathroom and what Manami called Victoria Falls.
You maye be wondering why he had all these stuff, it was simple. He was going to create more ways to help assassinate Korosensei.
Just because he wasn't interested in the bounty of Korosensei wasn't in his line of sight or first priority didn't mean he wouldn't help his classmates assassinate him.
"Tomorrow is the official start for summer break" He said as he stretched. "I should make something for the assassination later..."
He had those anti-weapons waiting to be used and to be honest, no one was using the ones stored away. Besides there was still plenty in the storage room in the Class E building. He only took a small amount seeing as the room was filled with the stuff, they wouldn't even noticed.
When did he grab them? Probably during his remote sniper assassination attempt.
They were also going to go back for some training before they went to the resort or something.
"...I should really something fun..." Nagataka looked over as his phone vibrated.
"One new message from Sugino" He read aloud. "Yo, Nagataka. If you have no plans for tomorrow, would you like to join me and Nagisa?" He read in Sugino's voice.
Nagataka: Sure, I had no plans anyway.
Sugino: Cool, we're planning on going bug catching!
Nagataka: Bug catching?
Sugino: Yeah, want to come?
Nagataka: Sure! I never went bug catching before.
Sugino: Me neither. Meet at the school okay?
Nagataka: Sure thing.
Sugino: Okay, see you there!
And with that the conversation was over. "Seems like I'm going bug catching tomorrow" He told himself. "I guess it could be fun"
"I'll need one of those plastic fish and bug boxes" He glanced to the clock. "I got plenty of time"
Grabbing his keys and wallet and locking his house, he headed to the nearest place that sold those boxes. When he got the boxes, there was four in one pack for the cost of 700.82 yen.
The plastic bug and fish boxes had colourful vented tops with a hinged see through window and snaps onto a clear plastic bottom. He had more money to spend so he went and bought some more things as well.
Maybe he should give one to Noritaka and maybe they could go together one day. Yeah, that sounded nice.
He grabbed a six pack of eggs, free range of course, for 234.04 yen. He also picked up some two kilograms long grain rice for 218.44 yen, two litre milk for 156.03 yen and earl grey tea that had fifty packs in it for 429.07 yen.
Nagataka looked down at the basket he was using to shop. "I don't really need to go shopping for other groceries" He quickly went through what he had back at his house. "Running low on vegetables and I might pick up some fish too"
"Ah, they have a sale on some meat...It wouldn't hurt to grab some"
After doing the shopping, which was originally only for the bug fish boxes, he went straight home and packed the groceries away.
Nagataka wasted time watching the TV, talking with Ritsu occasionally and playing a video game.
He wheeled into the kitchen as he started to prepare dinner. "What should I have tonight?" He asked himself.
"Hm, do you wish for me to look up some ingredients?" Ritsu asked from his phone.
"No, it should be fine" He replied. "But you can offer suggestions if you want"
"How about miso-glazed salmon?"
"Sure" He nodded. "Can you tell me the ingredients?"
Ritsu nodded. "One quarter cup packed brown sugar, two tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce, two tablespoons hot water, two tablespoons miso soybean paste, four 6-ounce salmon fillets about 1 inch thick, cooking spray and one tablespoon chopped fresh chives"
Ritsu then started on the preparations. "Preheat broiler then combine the first four ingredients, stirring with a whisk. Arrange fish in a shallow baking dish coated with cooking spray. Spoon miso mixture evenly over fish. Broil 10 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork, basting twice with miso mixture. Sprinkle with chives"
After Nagataka got the ingredients out he started on cooking. He preheated the broiler as he combined the brown sugar, miso soybean paste, hot water and low-sodium soy sauce, stirring with a whisk.
He started on the fish as he arranged on a dish he coated with the cooking spray. Ritsu watched as Nagataka continued to follow the instructions and make his dinner. Soon it was ready to eat.
He took a bite of the meal and raised an eyebrow. "It's actually not that bad" He said as he continued to eat dinner while talking with Ritsu.
After having a nice dinner to start off summer break he got dressed into his sleepwear, the long dark grey pants with the green shirt that had on it 'you were hotter online' going down the shirt in black text...English by the way.
He laid on top of his bed as he stared up at the ceiling as the moonlight tried to peak through the closed blinds.
"Bug catching, huh" He whispered. "There's this weird feeling of...excitement"
He turned onto his side as he faced towards the wall. "Am I excited for something I never done before? Or is it because I'm doing it with others?" He asked himself before rolling back onto his back and once again facing the ceiling. "I'm even considering bringing Noritaka along, but probably not with the others"
He raised his hand and simply stared at it in the darkness. "...I guess I am excited" He said as he closed his eyes, and let sleep take him.
However, a small smile was present on his face as he fell asleep.
He was truly looking forward to tomorrow.
The next day, early in the morning, the sun was trying its hardest to peek through the closed curtains.
A hand ran through smooth black hair as Nagataka was sitting up from his bed. He tiredly glanced to the window and then to a clock.
He let out a yawn before he got into his wheelchair, which luckily was nearby, and got changed into a plain black t-shirt and dark blue shorts that went past the knees. "Today's the day I catch some bugs like throwing balls at wildlife" He said before having a quick breakfast, which was just a bowl of cereal.
Grabbing one of the bug boxes, he headed out.
He made it to the class E building just fine as he soon spotted Sugino followed by Nagataka.
Nagataka raised his hand as he waved. "Good morning"
"Yo!" Sugino waved back. "Morning!"
"Someone seems happy" Nagataka then looked over to Nagisa. "Morning Nagisa"
"Good morning" The blue haired trap greeted.
'You guys ready?" Sugino asked as they nodded.
Sugino directed the two to some trees, or well they rather followed him. Sugino had put something on the tree and before they knew it, not too long later, there were bugs.
"Hey, look there are tons of them!" Sugino said as the tree had beetles and butterflies of all kinds of it.
"Why are we at school right now and so early too?" Nagisa asked as he held a plastic bug catching container.
"Well...because it would be embarrassing to collect bugs in front of the others at this age" Sugino scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "I grew up in the city so this kind of stuff always interested me. Luckily, Karma said he saw a tree with some bugs on it"
"The isolated classroom, surrounded by nature. It teaches us a lot about things we never realized until now" Nagisa looked around the trees near the E building. Nature sure was beautiful. "It was supposed to be a place to loathe. How did it become such a place of comfort"
"But I'm surprised you came too, Hiroto" Sugino said looking over to the womanizer. "I didn't think you'd be interested in this stuff"
"We're doing our next assassination on an island resort in the south, right?" Hiroto asked them. "Then, don't you think we're forgetting something?"
"MONEY!" Hiroto shouted with the yen symbol in his eyes. "In order to win over the ladies in their swimming suits, we need financial power!"
Nagisa and Sugino sweat-dropped at Hiroto's behaviour. "I'm fine on money" The voice that belonged to Nagataka said as he had his own bug catching container. "Oh, I catch one"
Despite his calm demeanour...did his voice and facial expression change? They had no idea seeing as he sounded like normal with his normal expression but...they could have sworn they saw a child-like smile and heard child-like happiness in his voice.
"A little shrimp like this is probably no good, but...a giant stag beetle? With something like that, we could probably get tens of thousands of yen with that" Hiroto said looking at the beetle trying to break the silence. "I could auction it off online and make a killing at the very least, I'll secure a budget for a high class dinner and a place to relax" He then took off deeper into the foliage around the class E building.
"Isn't he forgetting the purpose of the trip, that Hiroto?" Sugino asked watching Hiroto run off who knows where.
"Yeah, I can't see that as the travel plans of a fifteen year old..." Nagisa agreed.
"That won't work" A voice said. "Giant stag beetles are old news"
"Hinano!" Hiroto said the name of the mysterious figure in the tree, only to be there class mate.
"Morning~" She greeted. "So you guys came to earn some allowance too, huh"
"No, we just wanted to catch some bugs" Both Nagataka and Sugino said in sync.
Sugino then remembered what she had said before. "Hinano, what do you mean giant stag beetles are old news?"
"Well, you see~" She said as she got off the tree. "Apparently, they were worth a ton around the time we were born, but now because artificial breeding increased their numbers and so many of them are on the market, their price collapsed. They were once 500000 yen and now only 5000, I think"
"A...A huge unexpected decline of stag beetles prices, huh" Hiroto said with a shocked expression, which Nagataka took a photo of, it was hilarious! "I thought the market price would at least be one stag beetle equals one girl"
"No way" Hinano said waving her hand. "Girls are the ones that are expensive these days~"
"You really know your stuff, huh, Hinano" Sugino said as the group continued on. "Do you like bugs?"
"Yeah, I love all living things~" She replied. "Since we're all out here anyway, so let's catch some! More people means we'll catch more for sure!"
"Did you set this up?" Nagataka asked.
"This is a handmade trap" She nodded. "I put it together last night. I got some slices of banana and pineapple and splashed it with shochu, then put it in a stocking. Then I let it set for about one to two days to ferment"
"Then I set it up in about twenty different places. Do it right, you can get about 1000 yen per person~" She then started to hum a tune. "I hope the one I'm looking for comes~"
"I'm not even going to ask how you even gotten your hands on alcohol" Nagataka said. "But can it work with a sock or a makeshift net of some kind?"
"Oh! Something that number one in the school doesn't know~" Hinano playfully said as Nagataka rolled his eyes. "You interested in catching bugs?"
Nagataka nodded. "I was interested with the idea, this is my first time catching bugs..." He said as watched the bugs climbing over Hinano's trap.
"Don't worry fellow bug catching friend! I'll show you the best methods and places to catch them!"
"Really? Then lead the way"
Hinano opened up her map which had where she put up her traps and some good locations where she found some bugs. "This way~" She said as they group went down a smooth path which surprisingly allowed for Nagataka to go down.
"Are you looking for any kind of bug or a certain type?" She asked.
"Any bug will be fine" He said as he looked at his bug box which had a stag beetle, a deep mountain stag beetle.
Hinano brought Nagataka to yet another trap, which some bugs on it. "This one is a good spot" She said. "Some rocks over there have bugs under them and sometimes you can just find them on trees and in the grass here"
Nagataka looked at the trees and the grass before his arm darted to a nearby rock. He was holding a Japanese rhinoceros beetle. "Ah, I caught another one" He said but unlike last time where he was stoic and calm, he had a small smile and a happy tone in his voice.
Hinano checked her trap looking for a certain bug. She looked back at Nagataka who placed the bug in his bug box but use something to keep the bugs separate from each other. "Enjoying yourself?" She asked, it did look like he was enjoying himself.
Nagataka nodded. "I am" He said when suddenly a laugh was heard.
"Fufufu, that's a useless trap" Another voice said. "You consider yourselves part of class E with that?"
In the trees was yet another classmate! "Taiga!" Most of them said as Nagataka was to busy with a caterpillar crawling on his hand. He was giving it his full attention after looking at Taiga...who happened to have an open copy of Pervert Castle.
"Ah it's just Taiga"
"You guys trying to earn a measly thousand yen?" He asked. "Obviously, what I'm aiming for with my trap is ten billion yen!"
"Ten billion...no way" Nagisa said but Taiga disagreed.
"That's right" He said landing on the ground. "Because we're set to assassinate in the southern island, that octopus probably has his guard down because he won't expect an assassination until then. That's what I'm aiming for" Taiga then showed them Korosensei, reading a dirty magazine, on top of a pile of dirty magazines wearing a stag beetle costume over his teaching attire.
"Kukuku, he fell for it, he fell for it" Taiga laughed quietly. "For the porno magazine trap I set"
"Wow... that Korosensei, who's so proud of his speed, is so completely absorbed that he's not even twitching...I wonder if it's a porno magazine he really likes" The group thought in disbelief. "And what's with that rhinoceros beetle cosplay?! Who's he trying to fool with that? That's just sad!"
"It exists in every mountain" Taiga said as Nagataka put the caterpillar into the container as he stared at the scene before him. "The 'Porno Magazine Disposal Spot'. There, a child picks up a dream and eventually, he reaches the age where he can buy the magazines and this time, he leaves the dream there. It's a place where you can see a never ending dream"
"You guys came at the right time" Taiga said. "With our pervert powers combined, let's show him a dream he won't wake up from"
"Ahh...the party had become fatally sleazy" They thought.
"I did a lot of research on his taste. I can't buy any so I picked up a lot" Taiga said bringing out his phone.
"That pile is not a lot" Nagataka thought to himself. "That's a huge amount!"
"Doesn't Korosensei like anything with giant breasts?" Nagisa asked as Taiga showed them photos of Korosensei.
"In reality yeah, but porno magazines are a dream. No matter who you are, everyone seeks their ideal there. Whether it's pictures or manga, the slightest difference can cause a completely different reaction"
The first picture showed a pink faced Korosensei wearing a snail hat...thing. He liked it.
The second picture showed what resembled a dragonfly and had his white poker face. He didn't like it.
The third picture showed his mild-yellow face and that half-arsed confused expression. He liked the art, but the situation didn't sit well with him.
"This is impressive, Taiga" Nagisa admitted. "You switched out the magazines and monitored his reactions in so much detail for a whole month"
"A full grown adult shouldn't be picking those up to read for a whole month straight" Sugino said as he couldn't believe that their teacher did that. "Just buy it. that's pathetic"
"It's the same as your trap, Hinano" The resident pervert said. "You research how to keep your prey in a prolonged daze, right?"
"Yeah" She nodded.
"I'm a pervert and you can despise me if you want but...because I'm the most perverted guy out there, I know perversion can save the world" Taiga said pulling out a anti-sensei knife from the magazine he was holding.
"Th-That's somehow cool!" They all thought.
"Actually...as much as I don't like to admit this, Taiga is right" Nagataka said as they looked at him.
"Eh?" They all went and started at him like he grew another head.
"Let me explain" He said. "Sexual arousal slows down reaction time. However the more he stays looking at one picture he would slowly get used to it and his reaction time would slowly return but still affected somewhat"
"Really?" They asked.
Nagataka nodded. "Yes" He confirmed. "Say I threw a ball at you Hiroto, you'll be able to dodge it but then I show you a piture from Taiga's dirty magazine of a naked woman, and then a threw a ball at you, your reaction time would be much slower and you'll probably get hit by the ball"
"Ah, I knew that you'll agree Nagataka-sama" Taiga said.
"Your still calling me that?" He asked. "Well anyway, perversion can help"
"Let's do it" Taiga said now pumped up. "Under the porn mags, I tied together some anti-sensei material and set up a net. Now, while he's completely distracted, we'll catch him for sure"
Taiga then handed over a pair of scissors. "Someone cut this rope to start itm then I jump out and stab him for the finishing blow"
Nagisa took the scissors as Taiga's eyes widened at Korosensei's new expression. Korosensei had the poker face but it was still yellow instead of white, however his eyes were poking out of his head!
Quite a distance too.
"Wh-What the hell?!" Sugino whispered.
"His eyes got weird all of a sudden..." Hiroto whispered.
"This isn't in the data" Taiga said to himself. "What kind of porno is that face for?!"
"Nurufufufu, I found you" Korosensei said as he stared up at a tree.
Korosensei's arm went at mach speeds to the tree and back as he was now holding a beetle. "A deep mountain stag beetle and the colour of these eyes!" He noted as Hinano came running out of the bush.
"Are they white, Korosensei?!" She asked running over.
"Oh, Hinano-san" He looked up with his usual smile. "Bingo, you're right"
"Wooow! This is what I was looking for!" She said as Korosensei handed her the beetle.
"Yes! It seems they do live in this mountain" Korosensei said as the two began to jump in celebration.
"Ahhh... we were so close..." Taiga said.
"I don't get why they're so happy. The sight of a giant rhinoceros beetle and a middle school girl jumping on top of porno magazines is pretty amazing" Hiroto said as Korosensei froze as he saw the rest of his students before looking down at the pile of magazines.
He then covered his face in embarrassment. "I'm so embarrassed. I'm so embarrassed" He repeated to himself.
"I'm so ashamed. Such an unbecoming appearance for an educator" He said before covering his face again. "I knew there was a trap under the magazines, but I couldn't resist the temptation from these magazines that I started to like more and more"
"HE ALREADY KNEW!" Was Taiga's thoughts.
"So, what is that Hinano?" Sugino asked. "That's a deep mountain stag beetle, right? In video games, they're way cheaper than regular stag beetles"
"Lately, the deep mountain one is usually the expensive one because they're still hard to breed" She said looking at the beetle. "One this size might go for twenty thousand"
"Twenty thousand?!"
"As a bonus, please look closely" Korosensei said. "These eyes which should be black, are actually white, correct?"
"In biology, I taught everyone about the 'albino individual', yes?"
Nagisa nodded. "The extremely rare instance when something's born completely white, right?"
"It's not limited to their entire bodies" The teacher said. "For a stag beetle it only manifests in the eyes. They're called 'white eyes' in nature, the deep mountain white eyes are very scarce"
"Their worth lies in their research potential. The hundreds of thousands you might get from selling one is worthless"
"HUNDREDS!" Nagisa, Sugino, Taiga and Hiroto shouted.
"I told Korosensei that I wanted to see it just once so he said he would find one for me with his zoom eyes!" Hinano said.
"Zoom eyes...great..." Nagataka sighed. "A perverted octopus with the ability to zoom with his eyes..."
"Hey sleazebags~" Hinano called out holding the beetle. "Raise your hand if you want this"
"WE WANT!" Nagisa, Taiga, Sugino and Hiroto raised their hand.
"Nah, I'm good" Nagataka said not raising his hand.
Then a wacky chase scene occurred.
Nagataka waved as the group ran off as they really wanted that beetle.
"...What are you doing?" He asked the teacher who was picking the mags up.
Erosensei froze in place. "Ah, nothing?"
Nagataka just gave Korosensei a judging stare. "N-Nagataka, please stop staring at me like a disapproving mother!"
"You deserve it"
"Please stop with that withering glare!" Korosensei pleaded but Nagataka kept his glare up. A light-bulb went off in his head before he vanished for a second and reappeared holding a popsicle. "H-Here, a popsicle"
