~ ? ? ? ~
The summer breeze blows through the branches of the tree at the end of the front garden and rustles through the hedges on either side. I run down the path to the front gate, painted white like the rest of the fence. I'd recognise that blonde hair anywhere.
"Daddy!"
"Hey there, little one!" He comes through the gate and scoops me up in his arms.
"Look! Look what I learnt today!" I focus as hard as I can and make an apple-sized ball of shadows, then fly it around me and Daddy.
"Woah-ho! Your Quirk's coming on great sweetheart." He forms his own ball of shadows and chases mine through the air. I can only keep it up for a little while before I start to feel dizzy. "Don't tire yourself out there," Daddy says as he wipes away a trickle of blood from my nose.
"Hiro, you're home!" I see my Mummy's dark hair in the doorway. She then laughs. "She looks so much like you."
"No." Daddy shakes his head. "You're far too pretty to look like me! You get that from your mother's side."
I laugh as I'm lifted up into the air.
"Come one, let's go inside."
"I'm not done playing yet!"
Daddy puts me down. "Okay then, you finish up out here." He walks up to Mummy, gives her a kiss on the cheek, and they both disappear inside.
I run back down to the front of the garden and stare up at the tree. I was so close to climbing it just now. If I can get up on that first branch, I'm up there.
Crouching as far down as I can, I extend my legs and jump up into the air. My fingers brush against the branch and I fall back down again. So close!
"Why, hello there."
I turn to see a man on the other side of the fence. He has grey hair, round glasses and a gap between his front teeth - and a cigarette. "Hello, mister."
"Aren't you polite. I couldn't help but notice that trick you did with your Quirk."
"Oh what, this?" I make the sphere and spiral it up into the air before it dissipates.
"Fascinating. Tell me, is that the strongest thing you can do?"
I laugh. "Pfft, no." I look back to my house to see if Mummy or Daddy are watching, they don't like it if I don't this. "Watch this!" And I shoot a pillar of darkness into the tree; it smashes into the bark.
"Well look at that."
"I'm gonna become a hero and beat all the bad guys with this move!"
"I'm sure you will, kid." The man pauses. "A hero you say...you heard of All Might?"
My face lights up. "Yeah! Who hasn't?! He's the greatest hero there is!"
"And I just happen to work for him."
No way! Woah… "You do?"
"Yep, my job is to scout new talent out, see if anyone is promising enough to be a sidekick for him. Could be you, kid."
I can't stop smiling. This is amazing! "Me?"
"You know it. I'd bet my glasses that you've got one strong Quirk there, my employer has uses for that. Why don't you come with me, and we can talk business."
There's a sudden sinking feeling in my gut as I look back towards my house. "I don't know...my Mummy and Daddy won't like me talking to strangers…"
The man's face looks hurt and I feel bad. "But I'm not a stranger! You know me, my name's Giran, remember? And you're Hikari Narita. Your parents hinder your ability, just look at your power - and they won't let you use it. I know you love them, but they treat you like a child."
"I'm not a child! I'm grown up and can make my own decisions!"
"I know! Come on, shall we discuss business like adults then?"
I nod. When I come back and tell Mummy and Daddy I'm All Might's sidekick, and I sorted it out all by myself, they'll be so proud. I open the gate and walk out alongside Mr Giran.
The road is quiet, as usual. Most people are still at work, and there's only one parked car - a fancy, black one. A man leans against it, on his phone. We've been walking for some time without saying much. Mr Giran takes a puff of his cigarette and taps it; some of the ash floats down onto my head and I brush it off crossly.
"Hey!"
"Oh, so sorry." He stamps out the cigarette. "So, back to business. Your Quirk shows a lot of promise. I'll, of course, have to speak to All Might about it, but you've got the most potential in anyone I've seen so far."
I go to reply, but before I can, a cloth is suddenly held over my mouth and a grip tightens around my neck and face. The man next to the car has already opened the door as Mr Giran drags me inside. I try to scream, but nothing but a muffled mew comes out as the door slams shut.
"Go!" Mr Giran shouts at the man.
My vision starts to blur and the car jolts forwards. Mr Giran slams against the other side of the car. His grip slips on me a little and I manage to push the hand holding the cloth to my face away, taking a huge breath of air. I launch myself to the door and pull on the handle, but nothing happens!
"Mummy! Daddy!" I scream, tears rolling down my face. I want to go home, I want to go home!
Mr Giran grabs a fist of my hair and pulls me back. I try to squirm and wriggle away, but the grip around my neck returns and he wraps his legs around me to stop me from moving.
"Shut up, kid!" He goes to grab the cloth from the footwell, but to do so he lets go of my neck. The second he does, I whip my head round and sink my teeth into his arm, the sleeve having been pulled up in the fray. Let me go!
"Argh! Fucking brat!"
In a state of sheer panic, I shoot a pillar out of my hands at the same time; it blasts into Mr Giran's foot. He yells out in pain as his leg jolts upwards, his knee hitting me in the chin, leaving me stunning.
All I can do is cry, the metallic taste of blood in my mouth as the cloth covers my face again. The more I fight for air, the harder it is to breath, before eventually my eyes roll back and I black out.
~ Present Day ~
I sit in the corner of my room, as far away from the window I can get. 'I recruited you', what does that even mean? I doubt I want to know, in fairness. Creepy bastard. And what was he saying about Hosu? The League is clearly going to launch some sort of attack.
But what if he was just saying that? Why should I believe what he says?
But then, why would he come all this way just to lie?
Because that's the sort of person he is.
Regardless, I can't risk my friends getting hurt. Iida and Shoto, no matter how strong they are, they won't stand a chance against the Hero Killer or the Nomus.
It's decided. I'm going to Hosu.
Hello, dear readers. Here's a small glimpse into Kurono's past before her involvement with the League of Villains - Giran is a piece of shit.
The '? ? ?' at the start isn't me not knowing how far back I've set this and forgot to edit it out, don't worry, I did that because Kurono has no memory past a certain point with the League, so even if she did remember this, she wouldn't remember how long ago it was.
Once again, thank you all for reading, hope you enjoying the story, leave a review of your opinions, thoughts, etc., you know the drill. Enjoy your day!
