Chapter 38-
Lars was very interested in his gift. It would be given to him later that night. The Gryffindor group were sitting at the Gryffindor common room, watching the fire. It was their last night alone, their last night until the following year.
"We have really gotten to know one another," James said quietly to Sirius. "Every one of us has pretty much gotten close," James looked at Peter, who stared at Lars.
"I would just like to thank you all for a great year!" Remus yelled out, grabbing the other student's attention. There came out Lily, Anna and a few other Gryffindor's. Remus took some leftover pumpkin juice and poured it for everyone there. Lars just smiled; he had met some good friends. They would be apart until September 1972 though.
"Well, I think it's all time to start the Gryffindor celebration!" Sirius yelled, grabbing James. Everyone started to sing and party, well into the night. It was the best night Lars had him in his time in Hogwarts.
Lars stayed up until late. No reason to stress. Him, and Remus just stared at the window. It was a fun night, James and Sirius had packed up the rest of the tables, and Lily put them back. She even thanked James for the great night. Anna hugged Lars, and just thanked him for a great year. Remus was hugged by all his friends, and Peter just gave handshakes.
At the last minutes of their last night alone, Lars looked at the room, and just had everyone yell together. "Gryffindor for life!"
Finally, everyone headed off to bed. Lars could sleep late with no classes, and he did sleep until Lunch at the Great Hall.
Lars finally settled down at the Great Hall, meeting Remus and Sirius. James wasn't around. Peter wasn't either. Lars saw Severus and Avery talking, Montague walked in a few minutes later, with a letter. Only wondering what that was, Lars took it off his mind and saw James come back, drenched with the rain storm outside.
"Perfect day for a rain storm, eh?" James laughed at Sirius. "Lars, you're ready!" James said loudly to Lars.
"For what?" Lars asked.
"To be home with that Slytherin!" James looked over to Montague, reading the letter silently.
"Yes, I doubt he will stay there much longer," Lars laughed. "Before he winds up attacking his father," Lars just saw Professor Slughorn take the podium Dumbledore normally sits in.
"Attention all students," Dumbledore put the music on in the Great Hall. "As a special treat," Dumbledore laughed. "You will all be welcome to all treats, and all of your houses points will be reworded," Dumbledore read off the point sheet.
Gryffindor, since losing the cup fell into second. Slytherin had won the cup again, literally the 9th year of the last 10 Slytherin has won the cup.
James groaned, but it would stay that way. Slytherin cheered.
"But!" Dumbledore interjected. "For everyone else," Dumbledore seemed to look directly at Lars, and his friends. "Slughorn had given all members of the Slug Club access to his room all day!" Dumbledore saw everyone get up, including Lars. "So!" Dumbledore yelled before anyone left. "Enjoy!" With that, Dumbledore let everyone go their own way.
Lars got to the Slug Club and after much partying and fun with games, and mixing Potions, Lars started to wind down. Lars looked at the clock; it was nearing 7 PM, which meant the last hour of the partying was almost here.
Lars thought of the year. The situation with Montague. Meeting Severus, Avery, Mulciber, even Lucius, who was the abusing prefect. Lars did think of being excited to see James, Sirius, Remus especially, and Peter again. Just then, Lars woke out of his daydream by the pat on the shoulder by Professor Slughorn.
"Enjoying your time," Slughorn sat next to Lars. "It seems a little too much," Slughorn laughed. "Even you are tired!" Slughorn laughed at Lars. Lars laughed back, and turned to Slughorn.
"Professor?" Lars asked, Slughorn nodded. "Do you think I have potential?" Lars asked, and to clear things up, added in more. "To become a great wizard?"
Slughorn sat back, and looked at the clock, nearing 7:30. "Yes," Slughorn said. "You will be better then most wizards!" Slughorn said. "Your potential is just showing," Slughorn started to walk away. "By year 7 you will be there!" Slughorn then walked away, organizing the list of gifts.
Soon, Slughorn announced the gifts. Giving the students certain gifts. Lily was then chosen to come up. She had received a certificate to the local book shop!
Lars then came up. He was given a short wrapped gift. "What is this sir?" Lars asked quietly.
"Anything you want it to be!" Slughorn yelled, and gave away the rest of the gifts.
Lars sat in the corner, understanding the gift. It was a parchment. Nothing really on it, but it had abilities among strength. Lars didn't know how to use it, but it seemed to hold a secret to it, that a bunch of people could use. You could create anything with his parchment. Question was what?
Lars and Lily left as Slughorn thanked them all, and then Lars followed Lily up the stairs. Both were quiet, but screamed the minute they hit the common room. Lily was excited for her gift, but Lars knew he had something special. Anything could be created with his gift. It had that touch that seemed to keep whatever they used secret. Lars decided to pack it, before anyone saw it.
Remus and Sirius hugged Lars again, and they talked about what they planned for in their second year. Sirius just laughed.
"I think it's about time me and James start doing what we want!" Sirius was beaming.
"What is that?" Lars asked. It was getting confusing.
"To run around the school!" Sirius laughed. "Cause trouble!" James then came down and just agreed, and also wished Lars a good holiday.
