He sighed as he watched her eat with her new friends. After the troll fiasco the three of them were now thick as thieves. It really hurt him to see he could be tossed aside so easily, as though he had little to no worth to her. It shouldn't have surprised him, but it did; it shouldn't have hurt him, but it did. They'd been together on the train, made friends as the only two in their compartment. She'd helped him look for his toad and he'd been grateful for her kindness.

But all he'd been was a stepping stone.

The bitterness was like bile on his tongue. He hadn't been friends with her for long, no, but they'd been the only ones the two of them had. He was the clumsy, stupid wizard who was practically a squib, and she was the bossy, know-it-all muggle-born who was almost too smart for her own good. Maybe they shouldn't have been friends, then, if they were such opposites. Nevertheless, he felt betrayed by her tossing him aside as though he was nothing.

She wouldn't be the first to think he was nothing, though.

He turned his blue eyes away from his fellow students. He didn't want to have to watch them and their friendship blossom even more. It was just a reminder that he now had no one. No one wanted to be his friend. She was meant to be his friend, though, his closest companion and ally against the likes of Malfoy and the rest of the Slytherins. They were teased almost equally as much; both their births and their blood were evenly insulted, though for different reasons. They could have been good friends, he thought. They could have been very good friends, and one day maybe even more. Sure he was chubby, clumsy and awkward, and she was bushy-haired, buck-toothed and bossy, but they could have made it work, he was sure of it.

But they hadn't even gotten the chance to try.

Congratulations to islandzadi heap, TheFantabulousPotterHead and 03hermione1992 for their correct guesses last chapter! The pairing was indeed Vernon and Petunia Dursley; I'm so proud of you! I hope this one here wasn't too bad. It was written just before one of my lectures after yet another exam (while sick … again, I know). Anyway! Care to take a stab at this one? It's not hard, I know you know who it is! Now all that is left is for you to prove it to me.

Take care!
