So….
Those new episodes of SU were pretty great, right? I agree. They were incredible!
But….
As those who have been with me since this started know, I started writing "Steven Universe: Extinction" when Malachite was a brand new concept, Peridot was still the antagonist of the series, and Garnet and Pearl were fighting. Since then, a lot has changed. The Cluster has come and gone, Bismuth appeared, Peridot became a protagonist, and the Diamonds have graced us with their illustrious prescience. And the entire time, I've been fighting to keep my little FanFiction in its own little universe, but still within a sense of probability within the context of the show.
However, the reveal that Rose Quartz is actually Pink Diamond changes everything.
And by that, I mean that I have to stop writing this story.
And I have to stop immediately.
You see, I had a certain plot point that would reveal Steven getting poofed, getting a new form, and would ultimately further the plot. And this wasn't a small detail, it was a plot point that changes the status quo of the story. So, the reveal that Rose is actually Pink Diamond means that I can't poof Steven due to Homeworld's suspicion of Rose, and since I can't poof Steven, the plot will not be able to move forward. I cannot continue the story from here if I want it to be believable.
And I can't just stop before that plot point. I have to stop here. Because while the end of the Onyx arc ends with Soren getting freed and Onyx being killed off, it also ends with a pivotal choice. The ship would be losing altitude fast, and Steven would have to make a brief decision. Either he can save Greg Universe or Connie. Either Greg gets killed, or Connie gets captured and interrogated by Homeworld. And then after that, my plot point starts.
It would have been a real asshole move to either kill Greg or emotionally rip Connie away from Steven, and then say "Okay, I can't do this anymore." You guys would never have forgiven me.
So, I'm putting this story on ice. BUT this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I can easily pull off this kind of story again in the context of the much more expansive SU we have today, and make a much more cohesive story that what we had before.
I'll be honest. I had increasingly little hope that this story would succeed, and looking back, it was a train wreck. I was an extremely young writer when I started this, and I was essentially winging it. It took me and Dante Watterson weeks of talking to make a narrative for the story I had in mind, and as time went on, I continued to wing my story. This led to decisions that don't matter, really sloppy character development, and no focus. It was the worst, and I hated it.
But I want your opinion, because it would be awful to just end it here.
WOULD YOU RATHER…..
ONE: Have me give away my original ending and leave you with the rest of the story, and no actual choices to make.
OR….
TWO: Pass the torch. If one of you guys has a good enough idea of how the story could end, I'll give my story to you, and you can continue it from there.
I'm not actually going to delete this. That'd be a slap in the face to you guys. I'll keep it afloat if you want to read what I had. But I will be deleting my Zelda story, because I'm already hating writing it.
From now on, my stories will include "Fallout: Europa," my eventual "Mass Effect: Andromeda" SEQUAL OUTLINE, and the new and improved choose-your-own-adventure narrative that I'll plan, outline, and publish just for you.
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED "STEVEN UNIVERSE: EXTINCTION."
"STEVEN UNIVERSE: EVENT HORIZON" IS COMING SOON.
God bless, JPLegends
