this one is for Chelsie Fan, whose favorite christmas song is O holy Night! I hope you all like it, its another little Christmas blip. Thanks to my magical Beta Hogwartsduo...((hugs))
It was her favorite service of the year. They all stood in the church with candles lit everywhere and she thinks it must be the most beautiful place on Earth.
The churches in Scotland didn't have this. The Christmas Eve service. They had Hogmanay, but it just wasn't the same. Not as magical. Time seemed to stand still as everyone held their candles and sang together. She had her favorites. Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, and The First Noel.
But the one that made her breath catch was O Holy Night. They always sang it right before the last song, and it always moved her to tears. This year was no different.
She stood with her little family. Charles was holding Carson, and Emma stood between herself and Glenna. Robbs' train was due in early tomorrow morning. He would only stay two days, and the children would open presents early tomorrow morning. Afterwards, Grandpa John would come collect them to meet their father at the station.
The familiar chords were struck on the piano and the organ and Elsie squeezed Charles's free hand.
O holy night! The stars are brightly shining….
Indeed they were. It was a clear night, with snow on the ground from the past week. The perfect setting for Christmas.
This is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining…
The world was still full of sinners, herself included, but she could ask for forgiveness, forgiveness for blaming God for taking Ella away from her, them…
'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Her world had been weary for what seemed a long time, since Ella's death. But things were easier and the warmth and joy of the season was enveloping her heart and helping her heal.
Fall on your knees, O hear the angels voices
O night divine, o night when Christ was born.
O night divine. O night , o night divine.
Tears were streaming down her face as she felt some of the grief lift from her heart. Emma tugged on her skirt, and she smiled down at the little girl as the song continued, and eventually gave way to Silent Night. She felt Charles hand on the small of her back as she wiped her tears away. She picked Emma up and cuddled her close as tears still lingered in her eyes as they sang along, her brogue thick and quivering. Emma hummed along with the familiar tune, not knowing the words but trying her hardest to keep from falling asleep to her Nana's soft singing.
The small family made their way back to their home, knowing it would be an early morning. The bairns were wrapped up in blankets and sleeping soundly as Elsie and Charles carried them back. They tucked the children in and as they tucked each other in Charles gathered Elsie to his chest while humming the tune of O Holy Night.
Let me know what you think! and if you have a song request let me know! Much love
Samantha
