DISCLAIMER: Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi and Pokemon Adventures belongs to Hidenori Kusaka. Two respected mangaka! I do not own the characters in any way nor the story plot. Only the idea of this fanfiction!
MizukixTsukiyomi's Notes: I was going to write for my other chapter fics, but decided to go with this one-shot idea that I have had for like 4 years. This is an Inuyasha crossover with Pokemon Adventures MANGA. This is important to know because this is not your regular Pokemon anime. It is a manga that follows the games, and honestly, has more personality and character development. If you are curious to what this one-shot is about, I recommend reading the first three volumes and that is what you will need to understand this whole chapter!
IMPORTANT NOTE: The character Green is the male and rival of Red in Japan. In America it was changed to Blue (while the girl who was originally Blue in Japan is known as Green in America). I will follow the original given names from Japan! So:
Boy = Green
Girl = Blue
Anime: Pokemon Adventures x Inuyasha
Characters: Green x Kagome x Red(?)
Chapter 38: Rival Rescues
Looking at the brown fluff in her arms, she could not help but feel her heart ache at the sight of its pain. Whoever Team Rocket was, they were surely an organization with no heart or compassion. The leftover scar under its ear where the chip laid before only made her blood boil. They were cruel to force the Eevee in her arms to evolve to all three of its evolutions.
"Is he doing okay, Kagome?"
Focus lifted off Eevee, cerulean hues landed on the grass-type gym leader of Celadon City. Her usual floral kimono keeping her in her elegant element while keeping up a strong smile despite the stress and fatigue she carried. Erika, the gym leader of Celadon City, already was behind Team Rocket's doings and trying her best to get the other gym leaders to assist to stop them, but Team Rocket was growing at a fast pace. Too many wrongs were being done and not enough good. It had come down to Erika meeting her and trusting her with the Eevee.
Eevee, a rare Pokémon in Kanto, that had been out running from Team Rocket's experiments and seen in Celadon City. It was difficult task for Erika to capture him, but after obtaining the Rainbow Badge, Erika trusted her with the task.
For Kagome, it was difficult just to get close to Eevee. Not to blame the poor thing as it continuously changed forms from Vaporeon, Flareon, and Jolteon without control when it sensed its danger. But after back and forth attacks, Kagome was able to get Eevee to calm down. The chip behind its ear had been the cause and after taking it off in Erika's mansion, they were able to get him to rest.
Kagome nodded as she looked back down at the Eevee sleeping soundly on her lap. "I think so. He hasn't woken up; he probably hasn't had gotten rest since getting captured by Team Rocket."
Erika nodded with a smile before looking at the six pokeballs resting on a machine to heal the Pokémon inside. "Your Pokémon need rest as well. I am glad you took my offer to rest at my home, but it's probably best we take Eevee to the Pokémon Center to get a full checkup."
That was an idea she had as well, but the fear of Team Rocket showing up also gave her fright. Kagome quietly stood from her seat as she adjusted Eevee in her arms. "Yeah, you're right."
For now, Eevee's health was a priority.
"Thank you, Nurse Joy!"
Bowing to the child, the pink haired nurse and her Chansey smiled. "We will call you once Eevee's condition has changed."
Kagome nodded back. Her eyes landed on the Eevee now on the bed ready to be taken to the back for medication. Was it the right thing to do to leave Eevee alone at night while she slept in Erika's home? She was aware of Celadon city having Erika's back and working against Team Rocket, but Team Rocket had methods.
That much she had learned about them after encountering them a few times with her rivals. As she adjusted the black fanny pack to her waist, she walked towards the double sliding doors to exit. Sunlight hit her eyes, but the commotion of yells pulled her attention to the center fountain across the main market building. Kagome blinked to get a closer look at the group of people having circled around two males dressed in black.
Trying her best to tip toe and get a clue of the commotion, her eleven-year old height was not much help when being surrounded by adults. Looking for a crack of light to squeeze into, Kagome ducked below a few arms and feet before finally getting at the front lines.
Her eyes immediately widened as she saw the red capitalized 'R' on their shirts. 'Team Rocket…?!' They had reached Celadon City already? Were they there for Eevee? The fury within engulfed once more.
"Team Rocket we told you guys to get out!" One of the civilian women shouted as her Mankey jumped up and down.
"Not one more step Team Rocket!" Another male added as he held a broom. "Erika-sama will come and deal with you monsters!"
Both Team Rocket males laughed at the threats. Threats they heard wherever they went but simply shoveled away. The tallest male came forth as his Koffing followed behind with a cocky smirk of his own. "Deal with us? No one can defeat Team Rocket!"
"That's right!" The other chuckled as he shoved his hands into his pockets. "Now where is that damn Eevee!"
"We know nothing about an Eevee!" The woman glared.
"Oh, we know it's here." The tallest smirked. "Don't try to challenge me, hag. There are reports about an Eevee running around in the city. Eevee is a rare Pokémon in Kanto and it wouldn't be roaming around these parts. Now," snapping his fingers, his Koffing came forth while slowly letting out smog around its body, "where is it."
Taking a step forward, Kagome grabbed a pokeball from the hoops on the belts of her fanny pack. "They already told you, Team Rocket," she pressed the button on her pokeball to enlarge, "get out."
Both males raised a brow at the cocky child for a challenge. A child of all things.
The Koffing's trainer came forth, directing his grin to the girl. "A pokeball?" Eyes landed on the badges under her black corduroy jacket. "A trainer nonetheless."
"Hey, Genu," the other Team Rocket member nudged him with his elbow, "that is one of the twerps that has messed with us in the past."
"Huh?" He raised a brow again. "Is it now?" Directing his Koffing to come forward, he tilted his chin upwards with authority. "Then let's show the twerp what happens when you meddle in the world of adults."
Grinning with his partner, the shorter Team Rocket male took out a pokeball of his own and released a Raticate.
'Double-battle, huh?' Reaching for a second pokeball at her waist, her eyes blinked the moment a blur of red and white came in front of her. Kagome straightened out to see the familiar red cap and black spiky bangs on the eleven-year-old boy.
"Two against one is unfair in the world of Pokémon battles!" Catching his pokeball up and down in his right hand, he quickly caught it and pushed the white button in the center to enlarge, "what do you say, Kagome? Tag team?"
Lips curling into a wide smile, Kagome nodded back to her friend and rival. Coming to stand next to him, both released their pokeballs in the air.
"Alright, Kadabra!" Kagome called out as the yellow creature spun the silver spoon between its three digs in one hand. "Red," she looked at the male beside her, "you ready?"
"Poliwhirl and I are ready!" He nodded back before rotating the front of his cap to the back.
"Two kids against us doesn't change anything!" Raticate's trainer shouted. "We will make you regret it!"
Kagome's and Red's lips curled into a smirk.
"Eevee?" Red questioned as he handed Kagome a bottle of lemonade. "You mean those rare Eevee?" Sitting inside the Pokémon Center lobby, they had sent in their Pokémon to rest. Battling Team Rocket was proving to be difficult each time, but nothing they could not handle just yet. The double battle against their Raticate and Koffing had been easy enough using his Poliwhirl's brick break and Kadabra's psywave respectively. The city's residents had thanked them for their heroic stunt, but Red and Kagome were aware they were far from Team Rocket's disbandment.
Kagome nodded as she took the lemonade into her hands. "They placed a chip behind its ear to change its form. It could guess through it senses what evolution to use to win against its foe. Eevee was probably scared to trust any trainer."
Red's brows furrowed with concern. "What…are they planning to do with that Eevee?"
She shrugged.
"Do they know you have Eevee in custody?" He questioned. They were able to make the two grunts retreat, but there was no knowing if they were aware where the Eevee was. "Don't tell me you are thinking of…?"
She avoided eye contact.
"Kagome!" Red sprang from his seat while ignoring the heads that turned. "If they know you have become Eevee's trainer they will be after you! You will be on their list!"
Kagome puckered her lips as she kept her focus to the window.
Sighing to her silence, Red shook his head. Since having met Kagome at Professor Oak's lab, he had guessed she was the stubborn type; she was stubborn. He knew better than to fight her decision, and if she decided to keep Eevee, then she was going to.
"I am glad you two decided to stay here. It was the least I could do after hearing from Celadon's residents what you did."
Looking up from his cup of tea, Red watched as Celadon's gym leader made her way down the stairs of her mansion leading to the main living room. A sheepish laugh escaped him as he saw the female dressed in a simple light green dress give him a small bow with her head. Scratching the back of his head, he swayed away her gratitude.
"No biggie! Those grunts were nothing!" His laughs slowly decreased in volume as he took another look of his surroundings. Kagome had mentioned the city's gym leader offering them a place to stay while Eevee now rested with her, but he never thought the gym leader of Celadon city lived lavishly. Erika had money, and the living room itself was showered in expensive China, gold stitched curtains, and carefully carved furniture.
"Brave of Kagome to be deciding to take care of Eevee though." Erika sighed as she adjusted the red headband on her head. "I tried to convince her to let us keep him so we could protect it, but she has become attached."
Red's face soured in thought of Kagome facing Team Rocket again. No doubt they would be sending stronger forces soon. "Do you know where Team Rocket is exactly? Like their headquarters?"
"Unfortunately, I do not." Erika sighed as she grabbed the tea cup on the coffee table and brought it to her lips. "Perhaps you could convince her? You guys are friends, right?"
"Well," Red scratched his cheek as his Pikachu ate his biscuit, "we are, but she never listens." Blinking at the image of a certain brunette male sprouting in his head, Red's eyes glowed.
Erika's quickly balanced her tea cup over her plate as soon as her senses were startled by Red's abrupt stand.
His smile stretched, "I think there might be one person who can convince her!"
"T-There is?" Erika blinked.
"Although," hooking his fingers under his chin, Red knew there would be trouble just having him agree to come to Celadon, "he can also be a pain to deal with."
"So how many badges have you collected so far?"
Red blinked as he stared back at a pair of green hues that were not amused to be in the café.
Red laughed sheepishly as he took out his Pokedex, "how many Pokémon do you have recorded? You want to compare?"
The noise in the café were not enough to fill in the silence between them, and the social interactions were not enough to ease the awkward tension. Red looked at Pikachu from the corner of his eyes noticing his own Pokémon had also caught the nerves he had. Dealing with his rival as no easy task. It was easier to battle him but talking was another challenge. This was the rival that girls squealed over. He never understood it. What was so great about his brown spiky hair, green eyes, his strong Pokémon, and his personality? It gave him the shivers.
"Straight to it, Red," the brunette boy's eyes narrowed, "why did you call me here? You said it was an emergency."
Eyes back on his rival, Red sighed with a pout, "always going straight to business, huh, Green?"
"I am busy, Red." Closing his eyes, Green reached for the cup of coffee in front of him.
Disgust radiated from Red's expression as he saw the boy across the table drink the bitter liquid. What kid drank coffee? Black nonetheless! Shaking the judgment away, Red inched closer before scanning his surroundings. "It's about Kagome."
Green's eyes opened.
"She got an Eevee, but it's not a normal Eevee. Team Rocket was experimenting on it, and it ran away." Red sighed, unsure how to explain a story to someone basically looking into his soul. "Well, the short story is that Kagome decided to keep it, but Erika, this city's gym leader, wants Kagome to leave the Eevee here. If Kagome keeps Eevee with her then Team Rocket will be after her."
Red blinked, waiting for a response. Surely the puzzle pieces would connect right?
Green continued to sip.
"Green!" Red exclaimed. "This is Kagome! She will fight the whole Team Rocket organization if she must, to keep Eevee safe! Try to convince her to leave Eevee under Erika's care!"
Shrugging, Green kept his eyes closed. "This is something Kagome has decided to do."
Taken back by his comment, Red's fingers curled into his palm. Was he being serious? Did he not hear what the conflict was? "Are you being serious?" Teeth grinding, Red did everything within himself to hold back his rage. "Aren't you Kagome's childhood friend?! You are the one who could talk some sense into her! Tell her that it is a danger to keep that Eevee!"
"Don't underestimate her." Green glared back. "She is strong enough to deal with Team Rocket."
"I'm not underestimating her! I am trying to be cautious! Who knows what Team Rocket could do!"
"Look," shifting his focus on his cup of coffee, Green's brows furrowed, "I have my own bone to pick with Team Rocket, okay? So I don't got time for this."
Red blinked, "with Team Rocket?"
"My grandfather was taken by Team Rocket yesterday."
Red's pupils slowly dilated as the news sunk in. Professor Oak? "W-What are you talking about? He was taken?! H-How?!"
"I don't know the details myself, okay?" He growled under his breath. He was annoyed just as much if not more for knowing close to nothing. He had a hunch to go and check the laboratory last night and sure enough he found a note from Team Rocket. The entire place had been rummaged without care. "I need to find Team Rocket's current location and deal with them myself."
Slouching back into his seat, Red exhaled heavily. "Don't tell me I have to convince you, too…".
"No one is asking you to join, and honestly," Green stood from his seat, "I don't need help dealing with them."
Watching Green turn to leave, Red immediately jumped up as Pikachu landed on his shoulder. "W-Wait a minute!" Red quickly grabbed him from his purple sleeve, "you can't go by yourself!"
"This doesn't concern you, Red!" Green barked back as he pulled his arm away from Red's grip. "I am going to save my grandfather on my own!"
"That isn't the point-!"
The argument shattered the moment an echo of screams and a blaze of flames were seen from the windows of the café. Looking at each other from the corner of their eyes, their guts sunk with a guess.
Running out of the café, Green and Red immediately froze at the sight of the civilians directing others to block the main exits and entrances of the city while others tried to set off the fire scorching the park with their water Pokémon.
Red's head turned left and right to find the source of the trouble, "don't tell me that…?"
"Team Rocket, probably." Green's eyes narrowed as he grabbed a pokeball from his pocket. "They should still be here."
Nodding, Red's hand pulled back to find a pokeball of his own on his belt, but all intentions to fight were put aside upon hearing his name.
"Red! Red!"
Both boys looked to their right to see a short black-haired female running with difficult in her kimono. Red blinked before realizing the female was none other than Erika. Running to meet her half-way, he noticed her exasperated expression.
"E-Erika? What happened-?"
"Kagome!" She shouted. "Kagome was taken! Along with Eevee!"
Red's mind blanked; Green's fingers loosened around the pokeball in his pocket.
"What…?" Red whispered. "T-Taken?"
Erika shook her head as she tried to regain her breath. "I'm so sorry. Team Rocket sent in one of their commanders here and they created a diversion in the park. I was called by the people to come and help with the grunts, but…," Erika closed her eyes in shame, "the commander had gone to the mansion to retrieve Eevee."
Green looked away, "then Kagome put up a fight."
Nodding to his guess, Erika confirmed. "One of my servants said that Kagome tried to go against the commander, but her Mr. Mime put her unconscious with a hypnosis."
"Mr. Mime?" Red repeated. Looking at Green from over his shoulder, Red's eyes tightened. "Green, that makes two people now, and don't tell me not to get involved."
"I'll save them both." Ignoring Red's frustrations, Green threw his pokeball up in the air before a red glow released his Charizard in wait. "You stay here and help Celadon."
"Excuse me?!" Red argued. "Pikachu!"
Pikachu quickly jumped on Charizard's back, stopping Green from getting on.
Angered, Green turned his head to face Red. "Red, this is not the time, but if I have to battle you, I will."
Erika looked back and forth at the two young boys as worry settled. "Boys, this is not the time to be battling-!"
"Disappointing."
Hearing the clicking of a tongue, heads turned to the shadows of the unburned trees. The flames' light slowly revealed a long-haired brunette wearing a black dress down to her mid-thigh while holding a pokeball of her own in her white gloved hands. A smirk decorated her lips as she fully emerged from the shadows and revealed the Blastoise behind her.
"You!" Red immediately pointed at the girl. "What are you doing here!?"
"You know her?" Green questioned.
Red's eyes slowly narrowed, "don't trust her. Her name is Blue, and she is a thief."
"Oh, come on!" She waved her free hand up and down. "I returned the badges to you, didn't I?"
Red scoffed in return. He had met the girl after winning the Cascade Badge from Misty and soon after she had tricked him by selling a bunch of fake items to power up Pokémon. It had all been fake and all to get his money. In the end, she had swiped his two badges, although she had returned them after an altercation with Team Rocket being after a Pokémon she called 'Mew'.
"It would benefit you two to trust me." Placing her hand on her chest, her eyes blinked for sympathy. "I happen to know where Team Rocket is right now, but your other friend is in danger, too, right? We three have the same goal so why don't team up?"
Keeping a suspicious glare, Red crossed his arms – with Pikachu mimicking his pose – and leaned closer to Green. "I still say we shouldn't trust her."
A slow crack in her eyes revealed the darkness she rested in. Body aching, her limbs barely sat her up from the cold tile. Wherever she was taken, they definitely had no hospitality. The black-haired trainer blinked her cerulean eyes as she tried to smooth out her focus. Hand rested on the left side of her head as she tried to ignore the pulse.
Yup, there was a reason why she did not like Mr. Mime.
"That stupid hypnosis…". Gently shaking the numbness in her head, Kagome only hoped she could get out from whatever dilemma she had been brought into. Memories of the battle against one of the Team Rocket commanders, another long black-haired female, had called herself a psychic-master and she definitely was no easy task. She demanded for Eevee to be given back to Team Rocket, but of course she was not going to let that happen. She would not put Eevee through that torture again.
Finally with a clear vision, Kagome looked side to side to find herself in a storage room with only a few unopened boxes and broken equipment. Patting the sides of her hip, she found herself without her Pokémon.
Kagome cursed her breath knowing Team Rocket was all about leaving people vulnerable. Coming up on one knee, her hearing caught the sound of echoed laughter. Instinct quickly lowered her back on the floor to play the unconscious card. Eyes tightly closed, Kagome slightly jolted at the sound of the door opening and letting in a crack of light from the hall.
"Is the thing ready?"
"Yeah, the boss told the other three commanders that it was set. All they needed was the badges."
Kagome cracked one eye open to get a better look at her guests: two Team Rocket grunts.
One of the males laughed loudly, "the ultimate Pokémon will be Team Rocket's very soon!"
"Yeah! And nothing will get in our way with it!"
'Ultimate Pokémon?' Kagome quickly closed her eyes again as she caught them turning their head to her.
"She is still unconscious?" One of them scoffed.
"Yeah," he took a step forward, "the kid is still as a rock. Dumb kids thinking they can meddle in our business. They should know what is coming if they do." Squatting down to the girl's body, a smirk adorned his lips. "Kids these days know nothing about the world and here they are acting all mighty. They are just a bunch of idiots."
Kagome's fingers twitched behind her back, having pretend to keep them hidden. A bunch of idiots, huh? Before letting the moment escape her, her eyes snapped open, shocking the grunt.
"W-Wait! She's-omf!"
Quickly jabbing her fist into his abdomen, Kagome wasted no time to lift her knee to hit him straight in the face. Grunts of pain wailed in the room as the male grunt fell to the floor unconscious. Up on her feet, Kagome glared at the other male at the entrance of the room.
"You little-!" He charged forward, arms stretched out to grab the troublemaker only to find him catching air. Blinking at the empty spot where she once stood, he heard a jingle behind him. He whipped his head around to see the young girl waving the set of keys in her hand before sticking out her tongue. "W-What?" Patting the hoop in his pants, he found his own set of keys now missing.
He growled under his breath; the little brat stole his keys?!
"Don't you dare!" Turning around to grab the girl who had slipped under his arms, he found himself being face-to-face to the door and hearing a click on the other side. Hands quickly grabbed the knob and desperately shook. "Open it you damn brat!"
Swinging the silver ring around her finger, Kagome muted the fists on the other side. They seriously thought she was just a kid? Maybe, but she was a kid with guts. Catching the keys in her hand, she turned her head left and right finding the halls stretched out farther than she would have hoped.
Kagome nodded to herself before taking a left turn. "Alright, first things first, finding my partners."
Staring with boredom at the two boys arguing back and forth, a yawn finally broke out of her. They had arrived at Saffron City, but their plan to move forward had been stopped the barrier currently keeping things out. A barrier stretching around the whole city and no Pokémon was able to break it.
Blue crossed her legs as she took a rest on a nearby boulder and watched both Red and Green continue with their sad arguments on who would be the one to break it. Bad news for them that the issue was to be dealt with inside. She had given them the hints that Team Rocket was currently in Silph Co., but she was not about to tell them why.
Here they were wasting time outside the barrier on which Pokémon to use from their team. Clue, none of them would work unless they worked together.
"Boys," Blue sighed as she stood from the boulder, "why don't we work together?"
"Together?" Red scoffed before rolling his eyes and pointing at Green with his thumb. "This guy doesn't know the meaning of that word."
Blue's eye brow rose as she stared at the silent brunette. He was not even going to object that? She shook her head, "well whatever. We are wasting time here. Look, do any of you have a psychic Pokémon?"
"Psychic?" Red repeated.
"Or a Pokémon that can use the move confusion." Blue's attention shifted on Green before the corner of her lips lifted. "You have one, don't ya?"
Sighing under his breath, he dug into the pack pocket of his pants before throwing his pokeball up in the air.
Blue and Red watched as the red glow from the pokeball released a blue duck-like Pokémon. Blue clapped once before looking back at Green. "A Golduck! Awesome! That should work! Now," her eyes landed on Red, "do any of your Pokémon know substitute?"
Nodding, Red looked over at Pikachu who stared at the Golduck.
"Perfect!" Snapping her fingers, she directed the boys' attention over to the barrier. "If we use confusion to scan the inside of the barrier and send an image of what you see in your Pokedex, then we can find the source."
Red blinked, taken back by her knowledge of the Pokedex. If he remembered correctly, Professor Oak only had made three? One of himself, one owned by Green, and the other by Kagome. How did she know about it?
"Red!"
His suspicions jolted.
"You will have to tell Pikachu to use substitute and get into the barrier to deal with the source. It is either a person, a machine, or a Pokémon holding this barrier up, got it?"
Deciding it was best to hurry, Green turned towards the barrier. "Golduck, use confusion."
The blue-duck Pokémon made its way to the barrier before placing its webbed hands on it. Closing its eyes, the red diamond on its forehead began to glow. Green had also been shocked to hear Blue's idea to use the Pokedex, but questions would have to wait until after.
Taking out his Pokedex, he turned on the small screen to the left to see Golduck's image of the city was nothing but a blur, but it was something.
"Is it working?" Red asked.
"Golduck is trying to focus." Green replied. "But he is still struggling to send in the image into the Pokedex." Eyes narrowing on the unfocused images, he caught the silhouette of a familiar Pokémon at the front of the tallest building in Saffron City. "There is something in front of the central building and it looks to be the source of the barrier."
"Gotcha!" Directing his attention on his Pikachu, Red gave him a nod. "Pikachu, substitute!" Watching his Pikachu multiply into a light color version of himself, Red gave him a thumbs up before seeing the copy of his Pokémon go through the barrier with ease and sneakily make its way to the central building. "Nothing yet, Green?"
"Almost." He replied. Focus glued on the screen of his Pokedex, Green waited to see exactly what was causing the barrier to stay up.
One second.
Green's brows furrowed.
Two seconds.
Red's head turned to the barrier.
Three seconds.
Blue crossed her arms as she held her grin.
The image on the screen sharpened.
"It's a Mr. Mime!" Green called out. "It's a Pokémon performing light screen!"
"Say no more!" Red smirked as he looked at the real Pikachu beside him. "You know what to do buddy."
"Golduck!" Green shouted. "Psywave! Golduck will transmit the sensory waves it's reading and a clear picture of what he is seeing."
Waiting for Pikachu's substitute form to capture the sensory waves in his head, he caught the image of Mr. Mime. Rushing towards the buildings, Red waited for Green to give him the "go".
"He is almost there." Green whispered as he saw Pikachu's substitute getting closer to the central building. "There!" He shouted again. "The Mr. Mime right in front of him is the cause!"
"Alright!" Red nodded once more. "Pikachu! Use thunderbolt!"
Eyes on the screen, Green waited. The thunderbolt was quick enough to catch Mr. Mime off guard and attack him to an unconscious state. As soon as he saw Mr. Mime fall to the ground, his eyes lifted towards the barrier to see the whole thing disappear.
"We did it!" Red ran inside. "The barrier's gone-w-wait a minute!" Seeing Green run ahead, Red's brow twitched. "Wait up, Green!"
Left to watch them run off, Blue hid her chuckles behind her hand. So far they were doing everything for her and it was working.
"Now," she adjusted the white gloves on her hands, "time to find this Pokémon Team Rocket is obsessed about."
"Hmmm…". Peeking out her head from the end of the hall, Blue scanned for any grunts. Nothing so far. Perhaps Red and Green had directed enough attention them to make them all head to their levels. Sneaking up to floor four had been no issue at all. She had heard a few blasts and explosions here and there making her believe Red and Green were currently dealing with something or someone.
But letting her concerns wash away, Blue's focus remained on her goal. Running to the door to the right side of the hall, she quickly dug out a bobby pin from her hair and quickly unlocked the door.
"Hehehe," she pushed the pin back in her hair, "their security system has always been lame."
Blue quietly and cautiously went deeper into the room only to see there were collections of pokeballs in boxes, bags, and containers. Grabbing one from the table, she blinked to see an Horsea shaking in fear. A Horsea just like hers.
Were these Pokémon stolen?
Carefully placing it back on the table, Blue's attention was caught by the black fanny pack next to the Horsea. Zipping it open, she noticed four more pokeballs inside. Were these Pokémon recently taken away from a trainer?
"H-Hey!"
Whipping her head to the door, Blue blinked at the sight of another young girl around her height heaving heavily and supporting her body with her hand on the door frame.
"Those are my Pokémon!" She pointed at the fanny pack.
Looking at the pokeballs she had just touched, Blue then turned to see the black-haired female stopping her way towards her. Was she-?
The eleven-year-old girl checked each pokeball before a sigh of relief washed over her. "Thank Arceus they are all here."
"Oh!" Blue snapped her finger at her, "you're Kagome!"
"Huh?" She blinked. "How do you know my name…?" Looking at her black attire, Kagome quickly swiped her fanny pack and pokeballs before jumping back and releasing her Ninetales. "Are you part of Team Rocket? I'll fight you if I have to!"
Blue laughed as she waved her hand up and down. "Me? Part of that? First of all does this good outfit look like something they would wear?"
Kagome blinked again, "probably not…wait! Not the point! Who are you?!"
Placing her fingers on her chest, she closed her eyes. "The name is Blue. I brought Green and Red here to save you, although…," she looked towards the door, "those boys don't even know how to rescue a girl, do they?"
"They can be dumb." Kagome straightened out.
Blue winked back, "glad we think alike."
Suspicion springing back, Kagome's eyes narrowed as her Ninetales kept its guard up. She mentioned Red and Green, but they never mentioned being friends with another girl. Before Kagome could interrogate her Pokémon's "savior", both girls blinked the moment they felt a cold breeze slip behind them.
Ninetales quickly turned its head to the left before jumping to become Kagome's shield. Both Kagome and Blue turned their heads to realize their surroundings had turned into a vast and dark forest.
"W-What?!" Blue exclaimed watching as some trees stood scorched and the winds whistled cold. "W-Why are we outside?!"
Kagome's brows furrowed. This forest…
Kagome quickly got into her own defensive stance. "Ninetales," she whispered, "keep your senses up. She's here."
"She?" Blue repeated. "Who?"
"Guess those dumb grunts were too weak for a child, huh?"
Blue's head snapped ahead as she heard a voice echo in the shadows of the forest.
"This is the second time you show up in front of me and I am getting tired of seeing that face of yours."
Kagome's lips curved into a grin. "Is being a gym leader not fun anymore?"
Blinking her focus on Kagome, Blue wondered if she had heard right. Gym leader?
An echo of laughter vibrated before a black silhouette sprang in midair. Blue's eyes slowly widened as light revealed the woman wearing a white tight dress with a red capital 'R' on her chest and long black hair pressed down into a tail reaching her ankles. No person would ignore the woman floating in the air with the Alakazam now appearing behind her.
"S-Sabrina?!" Blue shouted. "Saffron's gym leader?!"
Kagome scoffed. The title was wrong in so many ways. She was just as shocked when Team Rocket attacked in Celadon City and Sabrina had appeared. She was naïve to think Sabrina was there to help Erika as a gym leader, but the moment she saw the 'R' on her chest, she knew things were different.
It turned out Sabrina was-
"-she's one of three commanders Team Rocket has established." Kagome spoke. "The other two…are gym leaders, too."
"A-Are you being serious?!" Blue shouted.
"The power of psychic Pokémon is beautiful, isn't it? They can give life to your worst fears. This forest is manifested thanks to the fears you are burying within." Sabrina chuckled as she rested on Alakazam's yellow tail.
As much as Kagome did not like the fact she knew her level in training was still below Sabrina's experience, she knew she needed help to deal with her psychic-type Pokémon. "Hey."
Blue blinked upon hearing the whisper calling out to her.
"So you worked with Red and Green, right?"
Blue slowly nodded.
Kagome nodded back before turning her attention back on their opponent. "Then that means I can trust you."
Blue's laugh cracked unsure if she could tell her that her assumptions were wrong. She had come by her own selfishness, but – her eyes landed on the gym leader – if she was to accomplish her goal, then she had no choice. Taking out a pokeball from behind her, Blue enlarged the pokeball by pressing the middle button.
"How tough is she?" Blue questioned.
"Well," Kagome sighed, "she was the one that knocked me unconscious."
Releasing her own Pokémon from the pokeball, Blue scoffed. "Great. If anything happens to me, you better feel guilty."
Kagome could not help but laugh back before watching Blue's Jigglypuff prepare its stance next to her Ninetales. The reality before her was children versus an adult, nonetheless a gym leader.
But they were not ordinary children.
Getting separated from Green had ended up bad for both. In the end, Red did not think he would fight one of the three commanders of Team Rocket, nonetheless it being Lieutenant Surge.
Red cursed under his breath at the memory of the blonde veteran who was proud of his electric-type Pokémon and the power Team Rocket granted him. He never thought one of Kanto's strong gym leaders to be joining Team Rocket, but what had surprised him the most was having witnessed one of the legendary bird Pokémon.
Watching Green grab his opponent's Golbat-like screen, he did not hesitate to follow behind and make a run for it towards the exit of the room. He took one last look at the unconscious gym leader, Koga, who had betrayed his good morals to gain power. Seeing Koga now on the floor was enough for Red to accept the reality that even gym leaders could easily be swayed. Dealing with Lieutenant Surge was anything but easy, and this time the lieutenant had accepted assistance from Team Rocket's technology to forcefully powerup his electric-type Pokémon by capturing the legendary Pokémon Zapdos. It came to be a bigger surprise after he was able to defeat the lieutenant by cutting into his insulated suit and getting to electrocute him with his own Pokémon now that he had no defenses.
What he did not expect was coming into the next room after forcefully getting separated from Green and having caught him within Muk's slime. Red took another look at Koga, Fuchsia City's gym leader; he was unconscious now thanks to Green having pre-released his Charizard from outside the building before they executed their actual plan. Charizard quickly blasted a flamethrower to block off Articuno's attacks.
That was the part that shocked him: Team Rocket caught Articuno. That was two legendary Pokémon in their hands, and he was sure Team Rocket had worse plans they wanted to green lit.
"Looks like this screen can show me the camera views of the whole building." Green spoke as he returned Charizard to his pokeball with his free hand. "He seems to be on the eight floor."
"What about Kagome?" Red questioned as Pikachu quickly jumped on top of his head.
Eyes narrowing on the screen of Golbat's mouth, Green flipped through the camera views. "I got nothing."
"Nothing?! You mean you can't find her!?"
"I'm trying, okay!"
Pikachu lifted his head up and sniffed the air before turning his head around. A few blinks came in and ears perked up. Jumping off Red's head, the small Pokémon sprinted to the other side of the hall.
Red cursed under his breath, "we gotta find-!" He felt the weight on his head disappear, "wait, where did Pikachu go-?"
"Yo! Slowpokes!"
Both stopped in their tracks upon hearing the shout behind them. Turning their heads, Green and Red blinked at the sight of their friend waving at them with a Pikachu in her arms. Red blinked again before noticing Blue was walking behind Kagome as she adjusted her dress and gloves.
Red's eyes glittered with joy before he met Kagome half-way in the hall. "Kagome! You're okay!"
"Of course!" She grinned proudly. "Those grunts can't do much to me!"
Green hues ran over the bruises and scratches on the girl's limbs and the rips on her favorite jacket. She put up a fight, that much he could tell. He knew she was stubborn girl since they met when they were four, and he knew better than to pick a fight with her. But one thing was for sure, she did not know her limits. That was why she ended up getting bullied as a child and then ended in a physical fight. That was why she ended up hurt, physically and emotionally. Silly enough, he knew exactly how many times she had come to him crying and just wanting company.
Twenty-five.
After twenty-five times, he knew she needed comfort. Green sighed as he pushed his relief deep in his heart. "Yet they took you." But her was not going to give it to her that easily when she should already know at eleven years old that dealing with Team Rocket was basically asking to get killed.
Kagome's eyes narrowed with annoyance before shifting her mild glare over to her childhood friend. "Yet you're here, Green…why? What do I owe you?"
Rolling his eyes, Green decided to continue his search through the cameras. He knew ignoring her would only add fuel to her annoyance, but he would deal with it later.
Red blinked as he stared at his male rival before smiling at Kagome. "He's happy to see you! He was worried sick!"
Blue nodded from behind, "I don't know that well, but even I could tell Green here wanted to bust into the barrier with all his might!" She sniffled her fake tears. "Such a romantic knight!"
Turning her head to her childhood friend, Kagome's eyes lit up with hope. "I can believe that!"
"All of you shut up." Green glared, "the sweet reunions can wait. Right now we are in Team Rocket's hands and who knows what else they have planned."
Blue scoffed as she looked over her shoulder. "You got that right! We were barely able to escape Sabrina's psychic tricks!"
"Sabrina?" Green and Red repeated.
Nodding, Kagome watched as Pikachu crawled up her arm before jumping to the top of her head. "Yup, that Sabrina. She is one of the Team Rocket's commanders. We were barely able to escape, but it took some of my Ninetales's dark pulse and Blue's Jigglypuff's sing to stop her illusions."
"So that makes it three gym leaders." Green sighed as he turned off the screen.
"Eh?" Blue's brow rose. "Three? You mean what Kagome was saying was true? Some of the gym leaders are part of Team Rocket?!"
"So you know what that means, right?" Green's eyes landed on Red and Kagome who remained silent. "This is getting serious, and they kidnapped my grandfather for a specific reason. We can't let them get what they want."
"Professor Oak?" Kagome's pupils dilated. "They took your grandfather?! Why?!"
"There is a possibility he didn't want to cooperate with them. Do you know where he is?" Green questioned. "Where did they keep you?"
Kagome's expression soured, "in a storage room. You would think they could keep me in a better room."
"It isn't a service, Kagome." Red blinked before his eyes landed on his Pikachu comfortable on Kagome's head. "Wait! Did you find Eevee?!"
Shaking her head, Kagome looked at Blue who now stood beside her. "We didn't. My Pokémon were all in another room full of stolen Pokémon, but no sign of the Eevee. We did check a few more room on this floor, but nothing."
"That is the least of our worries right now." Blue cut in. "Sabrina mentioned during our battle about an ultimate Pokémon." Green's and Red's interest piqued. "There is a thing in this building that can create a new Pokémon if you use seven badges-".
Red covered Kagome's ears with his hands,"-don't believe her, Kagome. She is a liar and she uses charm to get you. She was able to steal my badges with that smile of hers! I'm saving you."
Blinking at the boy, Blue gave him an innocent smile. "You were just naïve, cutie."
"She isn't lying." Kagome looked at Red. "Sabrina said that they were just waiting for a trainer to collect them and then they would swoop in to steal them."
"The badges?" Red lowered his hands from Kagome's ears. "What the heck could it create!?"
Crossing his arms, Green looked back at the room where Koga laid. Recalling his battle with the gym leader, he remembered the way he had full control of Articuno. And if what Red's story about Zapdos being controlled by Lieutenant Surge was true, then there was a chance Moltres, the final legendary bird Pokémon rested in the Silph building. "It has to do with the legendary Pokémon."
Kagome and Blue blinked again.
"You mean Zapdos and Articuno?" Red added.
"And there is a high possibility Moltres is here, too."
"Wait, you mean the legendary birds are here?" Kagome asked Green. "How on earth did they even go around catching them?"
"I will explain the whole story about dealing with Zapdos and Articuno later, but," exhaling, Green's eyes landed on Kagome. "I think the more important question is why do they need them."
It made no sense to none of them. Team Rocket had the reputation to steal and sell Pokemon. Were they planning to sell the legendary Pokemon? To who? Money wise, the numbers could be high, but that would satisfy them for a short period of time before they sought for more legendary Pokemon.
Placing her finger under her chin, Kagome' eyes wandered to her feet. One thing was for certain – her eyes rose to meet the silent group – they needed to be stopped. "Then we gotta move. Standing here isn't going to save anyone or the Pokemon."
"So what is the plan?" Blue asked.
Looking over at Red, Green gave him a nod. "One of us will have to deal with Sabrina. Moltres will be with her if the other two legendary Pokemon were with the other two commanders. Another person will have to go release the Pokemon under Team Rocket and the other will have to find my grandfather."
"What would the last person do?" Red questioned. "There is four of us; do we team up?"
Green's eyes landed on the Golbat-screen once more. "The last person will have to go deal with Team Rocket's leader."
Kagome did not let a second pass by and raised her hand. "I'll go deal with the leader! I got a bone to pick with him!"
Narrowing his eyes, Green took a step towards her. "You do realize you got captured, right?"
She met his glare, "what are you trying to say, Green?"
"Wait! Wait!" Red interrupted as he placed his arm between the two. "Calm down, you two! We all have the same goal so let's think this with strategy!" The last thing they all needed was to be bickering about who got what. Team Rocket was probably on their way to stop them.
Keeping her glare glued on Green, Kagome let a few more seconds pass by before blowing a raspberry in his direction. "Fine," she turned away from his gaze, "I'll go fin the captured Pokemon. I have to go find Eevee, too."
Nodding to her decision, Red looked over at Blue. "Do you know what Professor Oak looks like, Blue?"
Jolting to the question, Blue chewed the inside of her cheek. One droplet of sweat trickled down her forehead as she cut the eye contact. "Y-Yeah…I know who he is." But did she want to confront him? Stealing badges and telling lies was one thing, but dealing with a person she had stolen from already was going to be a problem. Her eyes landed on her Pokeball attacked to her black belt. A Pokemon originally not hers and one that had not been picked in Professor Oak's lab.
"Alright!" Red fished her out of her thoughts. "So we got Kagome and Blue on the plan! What will you and I do?"
Eyes on Green, Green took another look at the room where Koga laid before turning to Kagome. "How strong is Sabrina?"
"Strong." Kagome replied. "We were only able to knock her out for a bit, but she might have access to this ultimate Pokemon they keep talking about. She didn't mention anything about their leader."
Red placed his hand on Green's shoulder. "I'll go deal with their leader; I'll find him. He ha to be here if there are this many Team Rocket members."
Eyes glued on his stare, Green read his determination. He nodded once before looking at the two girls waiting for a response. "Okay, then I will go deal with Sabrina and this Pokemon. If we finish our missions early, we can help each other."
Blue sighed, unsure how she got wrapped up into their plan in the first place, but she knew getting out of the building was tougher than getting in now.
Before Red and Green turned to run the opposite direction, Kagome stopped them by placing her hands on either of their shoulders. "You two just wanted to steal the spotlight, huh?"
"W-Wha?!" Red exclaimed. "T-That's not it-!"
"Take it for now," she glared, "but I'll steal it later."
"What is it with you and the spotlight?" Green's brow rose before staring at her smirk. Sighing, Green shook his head. "Fine, I'll be waiting for that day."
Kagome's smirk softened to a smile upon seeing the small curve on Green's lips before he turned his head away completely.
She released her hold on them; she watched them run. Red and Green were trainers she never thought would become rivals and good friends of hers, but she knew a day would come where they would have to test their skills on each other and see who would come out on the top.
And not just in Kanto.
MizukixTsukiyomi's Notes: It's been a long time since I last updated anything and honestly, there is no confidence to my writing. I have no idea what happened to me after my last update last year, but I lost all motivation, skill, etc. completely. This chapter was probably a mess. If I were to make a whole fic based off this idea then I would try my best to clean it up and add some missing scenes to make it clearer, but for now, it stays like this.
Let me know what you think! Thank you for reading and please review! Note: Dimensional Lovers updates every 10 reviews! Due to my other stories taking time as well, if these one-shots become popular, I do make time for them! Because you all deserve to get some fluff/romance/action whatever pairings with Kagome!
Ja~ne!
