Chapter 38
Kai's POV
The second my lips touched Lia's, I felt my pulse race. I grasped her shoulders as I kissed her insistently, waiting for her to return my fervor.
I stopped when I realized she was standing stock still.
Confused, I pulled back to survey her. She looked the same as she always did, albeit her ever-present grin was missing. Same silky gold hair, sky blue eyes, teal tee, old blue jeans, and…
My eyes narrowed. I jabbed a finger towards her chest and asked, "Where did you get that?"
Her hand instinctively wrapped around the precious necklace. Even I could tell that it was worth a lot of money, and I had virtually no sense of value. "Cole gave it to me." There was a slight shake in her voice.
"Oh really?" I sneered. I mean, really! Who had comforted her after she ran off? Who had been one of her best friends since she was twelve? Who had been head over heels for her for 4 freaking years? I finally get my chance, and she is still clinging onto Cole!
She looked frightened. "Kai! He's my boyfriend! He can give me gifts if he wants!" I resisted the urge to pound a whole in the wall.
"You can't be serious! Everyone could tell that you were growing apart, and then last night on the roof-" She stopped me before I could finish my sentence. A deadly calm had entered in her countenance.
"Don't ever talk about that night again. I was on the roof, and when you heard me bumbling around, you came to make sure I was okay, yes? And then, I tripped on a loose shingle, fell on you, and our lips accidentally smooshed together. Kapeesh?" Her voice was the scary type of calm that people get when they seem to be seriously considering murdering you.
I gulped, hoping my terror wasn't as evident in my expression as I thought it must be, and nodded my understanding. Appeased, she pulled back, straightened her clothes, and headed out the door.
Jay's POV
Frustrated, I banged on the main control system with my wrench, trying to get it to boot up. I had been stuck in this stuffy engine room for most of the morning, and the only progress I had made was getting the coffee pot in working order.
With a yell, I picked up my Philips head screw driver and threw it as hard as I could at the main frame. You'd be surprised how often that actually worked, believe it or not.
I was not to be disappointed. As soon as the screw driver clunked down to the floor, and mechanical buzzing filled the room and lights blinked on. Throwing my arms into the air, I proceeded to do my best victory dance, involving lots of hollering and bouncing up and down, when a familiar horn stopped me dead in my tracks. Oh no…
I groaned when a voice I knew well called out, "Better fix the brakes. Make a note, Edna." and winced when an equally familiar voice replied, "Yes, dear." and positively fainted when another household voice practically screamed, "Oooh! These are so cool! Can I have one? Can I? Can I? Can I can I canIcanIca-"
One of the voices sighed. "Sure thing."
My worst fear had been realized.
My family had come to visit.
Zane's POV
I was working on scrubbing down the floors when I heard a strange honking noise from outside, followed by even stranger voices. Curious, I went outside to see what was going on, and came face to face with a monstrosity of a vehicle. Probably a dozen head lights, disproportionate wheels, massive tail end… It was the most hideous car I had ever seen.
A small figure, dressed almost entirely in pink, leapt from the car and came sprinting up towards the ship. I say sprinting, by flying was probably more appropriate, at the rate she was going at.
The figure only stopped once it had come up the gang plank and was now panting on the deck. Recovering, it stood up, and I was able to see a girl, probably about twelve or thirteen, with reddish brown hair and blue eyes, looking remarkably like our favorite blue ninja. Only difference was that she was a girl and pretty much wearing only pink.
Disoriented, the girl looked around and spotted me. Immediately, she walked over to me and stuck out her hand. "Hi! I'm Piper, but you can call me Pipes. Everyone does." Caught a little off guard by her confident greeting, it was all I could do to stick my hand out.
"Erm, hi. I'm Zane… Are you by any chance related to Jay Walker?" I hazarded. I was ninety-nine point nine percent sure that they were related; one, because they looked a lot alike; two, they both seem to talk a ton!
The girl, or Piper, I guess, beamed. "Yep, he's my big bro!" She glanced around. "Is he here?" Numbly I nodded. I got saved from more awkward conversation as Lia came bounding up the stairs from below deck.
"Hey, Zane! What's going on?" she called as she came fully atop the main deck.
"Jay's family's here, sis," I replied, nodding to the girl in pink, who turned around at Jay's name.
Spontaneously, Piper let out a loud shriek (no wonder everyone calls her Pipes) and flung herself at Lia. Lia, caught totally unprepared, went down for the count. "Oh my goodness!" Piper was still shrieking. "Lia! I can't believe your freaking here!"
Pulling herself off of Lia, Piper popped up and offered Lia her hand. As she hauled Lia to her feet, she never stopped chatting. Distantly, I was wondering if she had an off switch when the sound of more people coming aboard drew my attraction. Turning away from the bubbly girls, I turned to look at the newcomers and saw…
An amazingly beautiful woman. Dark, scarlet hair tumbled in light curls down to her waist, piercing emerald eyes stared into me as if trying to find the best way to take me down in a fight, and her round pink lips were permanently curled at the edges, as if she was fighting the urge to smile. Nothing about her seemed innocent or vulnerable. Instead, she was entirely made up of fiery confidence and an aura of power.
Her gaze left mine and the moment was lost, leaving me tongue tied for the second time in as many minutes. As she walked up the deck, her nose crinkled in disdain and the sound of her seven inch stilettos pounded an insistent tattoo on my ear drums. After doing a walk about around the ship's main deck, she walked up to me. She flashed me a shield shaped badge.
"Agent Ness of Ninjago Central Intelligence Agency, or NCIA. Could I have a private word?"
So, good job? Oh, and the poll is now closed. Thanks to the 13 people who voted!
Anyways, please review! Love ya'll!
